| Ranking (previous) | Team | Commentary | Record |
| 1 (1) | | The Red Wings are really slipping, just 6 wins in their last 10. Wow, only 6 wins, that sounds funny but they have been looking human recently which could mean teams are figuring them out. The key is to just have your goalie bump into Thomas Holmstrom to draw penalties, since he'll never leave in front of the crease. | 41-13-5 |
| 2 (6) | | Well the big line is back together and scoring at a frantic pace, while the Sens even went as far to add well traveled Cory Stillman to add some depth to that offense. I approve of that move and the Sens are looking really strong again and making some room between them and the Canadians. | 34-19-4 |
| 3 (4) | | The Stars are making a push ahead of the Sharks here but I think they need to make a big deadline move, I still don't trust this team to score enough in the playoffs and grind it out to go far. Sure they goaltending is there but with Mike Modano being to old and your star scorer is Mike Robiero I smell another 7 beating a 2 for a first round upset. | 35-20-5 |
| 4 (5) | | The Sharks are still in a good position to make a run at the Stars as they have four in hand and just as good of goaltending. Jonathon Cheechoo is still struggling to return to form but he is getting there and that makes the Sharks even more dangerous. | 31-17-8 |
| 5 (10) | | Although it pains me to do it I think the 5 is fair for the Pens as they make their best showing in the rankings so far this season, they are winning games which is all that matters, even if it means beating up on the Kings and the struggling Flyers. Malkin is proving to be an elite player in the NHL dominating scoring right now. Him and Crosby would be thunder and lightning as Malkin is the power and Sid is the hands. Not a bad combo. | 32-19-5 |
| 6 (7) | | You know what I haven't said in a while about the Wild? How much I love them in a 7 game playoff series as a spoiler. They are quietly sitting on a 3 seed right now and have ended the carousel of their division as they remain comfortably on top. | 32-21-4 |
| 7 (9) | | The Devils are still right with the Penguins and need to keep winning to keep the Pens from getting any breathing room. This week will be tough for the Devils as they have to play the Eastern Conference leader Sens twice. | 31-21-4 |
| 8 (3) | | The Canadians drop like rocks after making a push to catch the Sens and now aren't even comfortable in their 4 seed, the Devils are right on their heels and they have begun to cool off and look human. If they have any hope of beating the Devils in a 4 vs. 5 showdown they need home ice advantage. | 29-19-9 |
| 9 (14) | | The Ducks are up and down the Sports Kid Rankings on a week to week basis, but wins over the Devils and the Red Wings this week is enough to move them up 5 spots, which they should be happy with. | 32-22-7 |
| 10 (8) | | The Flames are still sitting barely in the top 10 this week as they drop 2 spots for not taking advantage of an easy schedule. They were only 2-2 against bottom 10 teams this week before getting back on track with a huge OT win over the Sharks. | 23-17-2 |
| 11 (12) | | The Avs needed exactly what they needed to by remaining right with the pack as they waited for the reappearance of the Statsny, Smyth and Sakic. Well it is time for the 3 ‘S'es to return. | 30-22-5 |
| 12 (11) | | I really thought the Preds would drop off after peaking at 11. Well they do a drop a spot because the Avs are scarier with their players returning but through no fault of the Preds who are still hovering close to that top 10. | 21-15-4 |
| 13 (2) | | You really do drop a long way when you get to the number 2 spot and than lose 4 straight games. The Flyers are getting out hustled by everybody and I don't think they would beat a single team in the NHL playing like this. Another complaint, among many, is how bad are the Flyers on breakaways? In back to back games Richards and Carter both had chances to tie or take the lead in games with breakaways and failed to get a shot off as they both lost the puck to themselves. That is how bad the Flyers are running right now. | 30-21-5 |
| 14 (18) | | The Sabres go from 27 to 14 in just two weeks time which is quite possibly the most impressive feat in Sports Kid Rankings history. They have only lost one game in regulation in their last 10 and should continue their march towards the playoffs, another great surprise team. | 27-21-8 |
15 (15) | | Another reason I am worried about the Flyers making the playoffs are teams behind them in the standings but surging like the Sabres and Bruins. Boston gets Glen Murray back which should make one of the weakest power plays in the NHL step it up and become a threat again. | 28-23-5 | | 16 (16) | | Looks like I really jinxed the Canucks a few weeks ago when I said they would be the next team to jump into the top of their division, now they are struggling to maintain the 16 spot and most likely will miss the playoffs. | 28-22-7 |
| 17 (17) | | It is hard to say whether or not the Rangers are a playoff team right now because they have played so many more games than a lot of their competition, I have to wait until the games played even up and than we will see if the Rangers will be playoff bound. | 28-24-7 |
| 18 (13) | | Damn I was really cheering for the Coyotes to make the playoff push but it doesn't look so good for them anymore as they drop 5 places and out of the top half of the NHL. This team needs to mature some more so it might take another season for this team to be a true playoff threat. | 28-25-4 |
| 19 (19) | | The Blues are in the same spot as the Rangers except they haven't played enough games. They could be in the playoffs but they need to play more games to see if they can turn their games in hand into points to catch up to the bottom of the Western Conference. | 25-22-8 |
| 20 (21) | | You know what, the Caps aren't that bad. They have the MVP of the season and should have the division lead in hand pretty soon so I expect the Capitols to remain hot going into the playoffs where they could be that team no one talks about that could make a splash with a home series or two. | 27-25-5 |
21 (20) | | The Blue Jackets keep plugging away but though this season was a good stepping stone for them they still won't make their first playoff appearance for another year or two. | 26-23-9 | 22 (24) | | Climbing two places still isn't good enough as the Hurricanes should be embarrassed by how bad they are this season, this team has no business being in the bottom 10. | 28-27-4 | 23 (26) | | The only accomplishment the Blackhawks can hope for ending the season would be not finishing in the bottom 10, but I think that is asking to much. | 24-25-6 | 24 (25) | | For the love of God somebody play some defense! Wait they did? The Thrashers should be proud of themselves this week as they only gave up 2 goals a game this week. That's like a normal team having three straight shutouts. | 27-27-4 | 25 (23) | | The cure for the coldest team in the league was playing the slumping Flyers on Tuesday night. They went from not looking like they would win a game on the Island the rest of the season to out working the Flyers all game on the way to a 4-3 victory. | 25-25-7 | 26 (29) | | The Oilers actually picked up a handful of wins this week even though their offense has lost two of their most important players for the season in Horcoff and Souray, I guess the loss of their start play has woken up Hemsky and Pisani because the Oilers are still getting some offense. | 26-27-5 | 27 (22) | | Thoughts and prayers go to Richard Zednik who is lucky to be alive right now, it is hard to play hockey when carrying that much weight in your heart as the Panthers drop 5 this week. | 26-27-5 | 28 (30) | | I changed my mind from last week, I say give the Maple Leafs the youngster Jeff Carter and grab Mats Sundin off their hands before someone else makes a big play for the star Swede. | 23-25-9 | 29 (27) | | They can still score with the best of them but they have no chance in making anything happen this season, except maybe dealing St. Louis for some future talent. | 24-27-6 | 30 (28) | | The team has plenty of talent, I think they just want to call a mulligan on the 2007-2008 season. | 24-32-3 |
