| Ranking (previous) | Team | Commentary | Record |
| 1 (1) | | The Sharks are still yet to lose a game in regulation that I can remember. I challenge anyone to beat this team in a seven game series because it's not going to happen. Sharks will win the Stanley Cup this year, you heard it here first. | 49-21-10 |
| 2 (2) | | The Red Wings have the advantage of home ice throughout the playoffs in the West as long as they take care of business against a lesser Blackhawks team. I still have trouble believing Detroit is built for a long playoff run and I am sure they can remember when they were the 1 seat and Edmonton was the 8 seat and the low seated Oilers sent them home early. I am not saying that is going to happen but I am saying I won't be shocked if it does. | 52-20-7 |
| 3 (3) | | This last week is going to mean a lot in the race for the number one slot in the East. Can the Canadians use their easier schedule to sneak in. If that is going to happen everyone in Montreal is going to need to become Flyers fans overnight. | 45-25-10 |
| 4 (5) | | I sure do hate the Penguins but they deserve to be at least number 4 right now. There is a lot of fire power in this lineup and if Fleury can remain consistant (something he has struggled with in the past) that there is no doubt they would be the hands on favorite to come out of the East. | 46-26-8 |
| 5 (4) | | The Ducks slide a spot just because of the strong play of the Penguins. Anaheim will not dip any further than 5 the rest of the year because even though they are just the 4 seed in the West they still have a team that no one wants to bump into in the playoffs. If there is anyone that has a shot at San Jose it will be the Ducks but after tough showdowns with the Stars in the first round and most likely the Red Wings in the second, it might just be to much for the returning champs. | 45-27-8 |
| 6 (11) | | Who would have thought in the middle of the season that the Rangers would battle back and now be in a tight race for the Devils for home ice in the first round? Certainly not me. If the Devils continue to struggle than the Rangers will sneak in there and get that 4 seed, which I don't think many believed was possible a few months ago. | 41-27-11 |
| 7 (6) | | Could the Devils be struggling enough right now to be predicted as a first round exit in the playoffs? You can ponder that as long as you want, your mind will still go back to the fact that Marty Broduer is always money and than you remember they still have a shot to win it all with that man between the pipes. | 44-28-7 |
| 8 (15) | | The Wild really bounced back quickly and are now the heavy favorites to lock up the three seed in the West. That is a nice accomplishment for them and should equate into a first round victory. I still stand by this team was built for the playoffs but the squads around them are just too strong. It was an exciting season though and winning the Northwest sure is an accomplishment with how many good teams were in that division. | 43-28-9 |
| 9 (17) | | Washington is currently in a tie with the Hurricanes for the division lead with just two games remaining for both teams. Looking at each others schedules I think the division is the Caps to lose but the Canes do own the tiebreak. They will need help but I think Alexander the Great and his boys will do the work necessary to get in. | 41-31-8 |
| 10 (16) | | Peter Forsberg might not be scoring goals but his presence is being felt. He's got 11 points (1-10) in just 8 games since returning the Avs and has helped his squad lock up a playoff berth. | 43-31-7 |
| 11 (8) | | It will take a miracle for the Flames to miss the playoffs but with games with the Wild and the team chasing them, the Canucks, miracles can happen. | 41-29-10 |
| 12 (10) | | The Flyers are the better team than both the Bruins, Senators and the Hurricanes but the tough schedule against the two monsters in the Atlantic division to close out the season could mean the better team does not reach the playoffs. | 38-28-10 |
| 13 (7) | | Talk about a terrible run for the Stars right now. Dallas has gone from the top of the division to dropping like rocks down to what could be the 6th spot in the playoffs. This team is really struggling, even after picking up a star player like Brad Richards. This could turn out to be a really disappointing season for Dallas. | 43-29-7 |
| 14 (18) | | Boston might be lucky enough to limp into the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference and if that happens I am taking bets that Alexander and his boys will sweep them without much trouble. | 40-28-11 |
15 (19) | | Holy crap Nashville controls their own destiny to get into the playoffs. All they have to do is get wins against the lowly Blues and Blackhawks and they will be the biggest upset of a team to get in the postseason this year in the NHL. | 40-31-9 | | 16 (14) | | The Senators started out as the best team in the NHL and now their playoff contention might be in question. Even if they get in the way the Sens have been playing, I doubt they could beat anyone in a seven game series. | 42-30-8 |
| 17 (9) | | The Hurricanes and Capitols completely switch spots this week because they are on opposite sides as they were last week. Though the Canes currently own the tie break, and both squads play the same exact teams in their final two games, I can see either the Lightning or the Panthers upsetting the Hurricanes and sending them packing. | 42-32-6 |
| 18 (12) | | Apparently the birth of Robert Luongo's daughter was the worst thing that could happen for the Canucks. After leaving the team for awhile to be with his ailing wife, Roberto has returned following the birth and has played absolutely terrible. I guess Roberto's daughter is a jinx. | 39-31-10 |
| 19 (13) | | It was to little to late for the Oilers. They really made a valiant attempt to get themselves into the playoffs but it fell just short. I still loved what I saw from this team this year and I predict they will sneak into the 8th spot next year. | 40-35-6 |
| 20 (21) | | This was the ultimate hot/cold team all season long and though they might finish their season hot, it is all for naught because this team will be on the golf course in a week. | 38-30-12 |
21 (20) | | There season might be over but the Panthers can still have a lot of fun playing spoiler to two of their division rivals, the Canes and the Caps in the last two games of the season. | 37-34-9 | 22 (22) | | A promising finish to a disappointing year. I am not sure what to expect from the Maple Leafs next year, I still don't believe they have what it takes to make the playoffs in 2009 but they showed a lot in March, they could just prove me wrong. | 36-33-11 | 23 (23) | | I think I have said enough about a team that means nothing in the long run of things for one week. | 38-33-8 | 24 (24) | | Can the Coyotes bounce back next year with all the young talent and be contenders? That's about as likely as it is that Pacman Jones stays out of strip clubs. | 37-36-6 | 25 (25) | | Beware of the Blue Jackets next season. You have been warned. | 34-33-12 | 26 (30) | | The Lightning are already making a statement about next year. They can continue to make a statement this week when they could be the deciding factor in who wins the division. | 31-39-9 | 27 (26) | | What a joke the Islanders have been this season. At least the terrible drop off down the stretch is giving some young players a chance to try out for this team for next year but with the worst offense in hockey, there are little bright spots the Isles can take from this season. | 34-37-9 | 28 (28) | | I spent all my time looking for a free agent goaltender that could lead this team to the playoffs next year. I still haven't found one. | 31-42-7 | 29 (27) | | The Blues were a team that jumped around the Sports Kid Rankings all season. By the time the season is over they might just bounce into the 30 hole. | 31-35-13 | 30 (29) | | I will spend the next week trying to come up with a bright spot the Thrashers can take from this season, but as of now, I don't think I can possibly find one. | 33-40-8 |
