The Tap-Out! 07.18.06

Rampage makes his debut with the WFA Saturday, Griffin-Bonnar 2 is set, Ken so had Tito, and will Fedor be fighting in the UFC down the road?
How about this… no intro! Ha!
WFA: King of the Streets
Taking place this coming Saturday is the WFA's big show. The matches as far as
Quinton Jackson vs. Matt Lindland
Bas Rutten vs. Kimo Leopoldo
Ricco Rodriguez vs. Ron Waterman
Ryoto Machida vs. Vernon White
Ivan Salaverry vs. Art Santore
Jason Miller vs. Lodune Sincaid
Rob McCullough vs. Harris Sarmiento
Marvin Eastman vs. Jorge Oliveira
Jose Landi-Jons vs. TBA
Not sure who TBA stands for, but the dude sure gets scheduled for a lot of fights. Think he is fighting Sherk at UFC 62 actually. Dunno why they schedule him though, he always no shows and they end up replacing him.
That bit of business aside, it will be interesting to see how the PPV does. Hopefully it is a good show and gets some buzz. While I like my UFC, it is even better when they have to look over their shoulder.
News!!!
Either there isn't much in the way of news this week, or I have been lazy in my reading. And while it very well could be the latter, I don't think it is. That being said, here's what I've found:
Griffin VS. Bonnar Part Deux at UFC 62
The awaited rematch is here, and should help sell the event nicely. I, like most people, expect Griffin to take this. I don't think it is fair to expect the same as we got from these two last time. Let's hope it is just a good fight and that whoever loses doesn't look terrible in the process… cuz I like them both.
Fedor in the UFC?! Note: The order of the news is not listed by importance.
There is a report going around that the UFC and PRIDE are trying to work out getting Fedor a fight in the UFC. I don't know the timetable, I don't know who his opponent will be, and I don't know if this will end up being for sure. But it is enough to get one excited at seeing Fedor tear apart a UFC heavyweight. Though I have to say, what pressure on Fedor. EVERYBODY expects you to come in and manhandle whomever you face. There isn't much room for error there.
Ken Shamrock nearly had Tito beat at UFC 61, I know cuz Ken told me so.
Over at Sherdog they have a wonderful interview with Ken Shamrock about his fight. Herb Dean is a coward for not admitting he is wrong about calling the fight (though Ken says he isn't upset that Herb made the call, as everyone makes mistakes). Ken knew he had Tito beat in that fight already, but got screwed. Much, much more to listen to. I think the interview starts around the 20 minute mark, if you care to skip right to it.
Question of the Week!
Who would you like to see fight for the Lightweight Championship at UFC 62? Keep in mind Sherk is all but locked in, and KenFlo has backed out.
Secondary question, how long have you a fan of MMA?
I'd like to keep the question of the week going for a few weeks until the next UFC event, but it depends on you folks. Write me at cnewbs@gmail.com. And if you have other things to get off of your chest, feel free to include that.
Brian-Watch! Sorta like a Panda-Watch!
It has been a week or two since the last Brian update. To recap, he believes he can beat Tim "The Pussycat" Sylvia in a fight, and being that we live less than 5 hours from where he trains, Brian's friends want to see him actually challenge Tim.
This week's update? For training Brian (along with three other friends) ate a 30 inch pizza in 30 minutes. Successfully, I might add. His prize was the pizza was free, and he conquered another hurdle in his life that people said he couldn't do. Tim, you are next.
Brian's addition – "I am also continuing intense powerlifting training."
So there you have it. He's a lock folks.
Final Thoughts
The new 411Games section is now up and running in its infant stages. Check out the birth of a zone, and make sure to come back for my Thursday news report over there. It will be fun, I promise. Well, I promise to try and make it fun. And more importantly, I will try to walk the delicate line between video game nerd and macho MMA fan.
