The Round Football Column 12.28.07: 131st Edition – Top 50 Moments of 2007 - Part Three

#50 - #31
#30 - #11

We've counted down forty……..ten remain:

Photobucket

Straight to it:

10. McFadden v France

Unbelievable scenes at the Parc de Princes as Scotland completed a miraculous double over France in their ultimately doomed Euro 2008 qualifying campaign. Screw the dodgy keeping, because this was a stunning football moment. So good that I've got two clips for you:

9. O'Shea at Anfield

Man. United deservedly won last season's Premier League title and this matinee drama at Anfield was a gigantic step towards that achievement. The would-be champs were out-thought and out-played at the home of their fierce rivals, but we're in a business where goals are all that matter. John O'Shea proved that in dramatic circumstances.

8. Man Utd 7 Roma 1

I actually fancied Roma for this quarter final tie and I thought I was being proved right after the first leg. However, I couldn't have felt anymore stupid after the second leg. Alan Smith and Michael Carrick had the games of their lives, Cristiano Ronaldo produced his first ever decent "big game" performance and Wayne Rooney was on fire. Those factors added up to a famous 7-1 win that will haunt Roma forever.

7. Reyes brace v Mallorca

He may not have set The Bernabeu alight, but Jose Antonio Reyes will forever be revered by the Real Madrid fans for his role in the final night of the 2006/2007 season. Real hadn't won anything for years and just when that elusive La Liga title was in their grasp, they were one-down to Mallorca on the final day. Reyes entered the fray, and the rest as they say, is history………

6. Becks to LA Galaxy

Stupid or revolutionary? We still don't know how this is all going to pan out, but either way, this was huge.

5. Mourinho exit

Whether it was the drama with his dog, getting on his knees at the Camp Nou or being arrogant, Jose Mourinho was certainly a character during his time with Chelsea. He was probably as famous as any player in the Premier League and that ultimately led to his demise. The Russian money bags couldn't wait to get rid of him, and that's exactly what he did.

4. England 2 Croatia 3

Okay, so it was a negative moment, but I can't deny it was dramatic stuff. American Football-ruined pitch, crashing rain and most relevantly, the lowest point in English international football for fourteen years. Beckham's cross for Crouch's temporary equalizer was stunning, but the rest was all about McClaren's inadequacies and Croatia's overlooked class.

3. Barça 3 Real Madrid 3

One of the best games you'll ever see. If only Man Utd v Liverpool games were like this:

2. Messi v Getafe

Was it better than Maradona's goal in 86? I'm not so sure. One thing that is certain is that Lionel Messi is one of the most gifted talents I've seen in my lifetime. This goal made people realize he was the real deal.

1. Kaka / Man Utd 3 Meeeelan 2

The final may have been a letdown, but this Champions League semi final was an enthralling contest, highlighted by the emergence of Kaka as the planet's number one player. Man Utd may have won the first leg, but it was the Brazilian who really stole the show. After leveling things up, he made Gabriel Heinze and Patrice Evra look like Sunday league players with one of the most inventive slices of individual brilliance in recent memory.

That's your lot.

Normal column on Monday.

Until then…..

O'Sullivan

Done.

Spurs 6 - 4 Reading ... maybe a place for this on the list? Berbatov was incredible today!
