And we're rolling...

Well, no fantasy football championship this year for your humble correspondent. I finished a disappointing 11th in the staff league with a record of 6-8, but I managed to turn a 1-5 dead in the water team into a 7-7 6th place team in the forum league. Too bad that all happened after Penguin & I stopped doing the fantasy football preview because nobody read it. In my non-Internet based league, I finished 3rd place (9-5, 2nd in the regular season) behind the performance of Tom Brady, Randy Moss & Tennessee's defense. Things didn't look good when Willie Parker broke his leg Thursday night, but my opponent opted to bench Clinton Portis & Steve Smith this week. He probably didn't expect them to combine for 42 points, which would have been enough to make up the 19 point margin between us. The -1 from Green Bay's defense didn't help him either. All in all, a nice way to end a largely disappointing fantasy football season. Here's to better things in 2008.

Speaking of better things, I finally made it to an NWF show for the first time in over a year this past Saturday night. They've started holding shows at Shimmers Ballroom in Ft. Wright, which is great on the following levels:

-It's an easy drive from my house
-There's a tavern adjacent to the ballroom
-There's a bar in the ballroom

Wrestling + Beer = Heaven. I spent most of the show sitting at the bar throwing back some Bud Light, watching the wrestling, and occasionally glancing at the bartender's cleavage. Good times. The opener featured 411 favorite Karl Chad 2 Badd Machine Gun Allegra Anderson going over Anthony Bryant. I'm a big fan of Chad's no matter what name he's using, so it was good to see him. My favorite current Southern heel tag team, the Hayes Brothers, came up a little short against the Hippies. Of course, they would have won if not for that meddling CEO Kirk Sheppard counting the pinfall for the Hippies. Is he even a licensed official? The main event had Wildcat Chris Harris & Abyss defeating Ryan Stone & Roger Ruffin in a fun no DQ brawl. It's not too often that you're going to see the team of Chris Harris & Abyss, that's for sure. Good show from top to bottom, I'd recommend checking out their website for more information about it. With all of the craziness going on in the Cincinnati indy scene these days, the NWF is the most reliable promotion out there and they have a good product that's also family friendly. I love seeing kids at these small shows going all crazy for the faces and booing the heels. Ah, youth.

Unfortunately their next show there is on my sister's birthday, so I don't know if I'll be back for that one or not. Time will tell.
