Pride used Coleman as a main even with Fedor. So why is it that far fetched for the ufc to have Nog fight Coleman after he's done with Herring? I'm not looking to pick a fight, I just think it makes good business sence.
I'm not saying I'm dying to see the fight. It's just a guess at how I think match making will go.

Jeff Monson is off the GFC card this weekend with shoulder surgery (as is his opponent Wes Sims). For a card that once looked great on paper they're basically down to "Chris Brennan and Jacare IN ACTION!"

I was going to post that newsbit and figured it would be like reporting a fighter being off an "Art of War" card. Then I realized Monson is probably off the 6/30 "Art of War" too.

I don't know if this is common but at the show we couldn't have any food ringside (other than bottles of water). They told us it was because there were no trashcans in the area. Now I'm thinking it was so it doesn't distract fighters like Ricco who might catch a sniff and lose focus...

I just got confirmation from "Art of War" that, while Monson did have surgery, his camp is not anticipating him having to pull out of the June 30th show.

I can't believe the Red Bears have Travis Fulton on their team. I'm actually stunned that he lasted into the second round with Rothwell.

Well Alex should take this one. I'm honestly happy that this fight is kinda spitting in the eye of the Neveda A.S.C. They had limited what Gilbert Yvel does in mma (which is all well and fine) but as of late they've been kind of pushy and annoying.
I find it further ammusing to know Fedor is behind it. What's not to like?

Tommy Morrison won in the first round via a broken nose/beating stoppage. Though it wasn't really an MMA fight as it was straight kickboxing rules with 4oz gloves.
Maybe in the future he'll grow balls and if he wants to fight in MMA will actually have MMA rules....

I'm watching last night's Showtime preview of Frank Shamrock vs Phil Baroni. Baroni is cursing every other word and they go to a section of interviews with his training partners about how hard he trains:
Alex Karalexis: Phil fucking trains man. You close that fucking door and fuckin' good luck man.
Mike Pyle: Holding Phil in a cage is like trying to shove a cat down the toilet. Not going to happen.
.... do they pump pure oxygen into that gym?

Shinya Aoki is fighting in DEEP on Sunday and I saw this:
Quote:
AOKI TO UFC?
Sports Navi reports that Shinya Aoki has been contacted by the UFC about participating in future events for the promotion. Aoki has stated that if he participates in the UFC he would like to do so as a representative of PRIDE.
Aoki started his professional MMA career in DEEP, where he won his first bout by armbar in 52 seconds. He then moved to Shooto and finally to PRIDE, where he won his last match over Brian Lo-A-Njoe in April.
“I want to shatter the idea of PRIDE as something bad or inferior,” Aoki said. “PRIDE is the greatest of events. I love PRIDE. If there is the opportunity to enter the UFC, I want to go as PRIDE’s Shinya Aoki.”

It should be noted that Aoki is in a grappling match and not an MMA fight. The entire show will be under grappling rules with the first two rounds being 4 minutes and the 3rd being 2.
Aoki in the UFC just gives the Welterweight or Lightweight division more depth, but how could he be a PRIDE rep if he isn't going to be wearing the long tights. Besides, I want him representing SHOOTO and not PRIDE
-------------------- "That's very humbling to hear about the [WON]voting results" said the Rock. "I believe all the wrestlers and people who are in and close to the business all know how much I love the business, and realize that there was no more challenges or possibilities to grow. I should preface, the intelligent people understand that. the goofs, not so much."

Aoki with no banana or rainbow tights would just look wrong to me.
On a different note, Ray Mercer fights Kimbo Slice tomorrow night, June 16th. Apparently it's full MMA rules and apparently Kimbo has been training with Bas, Couture and others. Thoughts, predictions, hysterical laughter maybe?

It's June 23rd, not the 16th. And yes I will be there. I had the luxury of getting on the press conference call yesterday and after hearing Kimbo and Ray talk I wouldn't want to be anywhere else in the world. These two guys were surprisingly respectful and contrary to what some people think, they are taking this fight and MMA VERY seriously.
Mike Farrow and I also can both keep our heads held high in the press area. We both asked questions and got on great with everyone on the line. The same can't be said for some of the other reporters, who were asking smart ass questions like "Would you fight Tommy Morrisson" or "What do you think of people calling this event a circus". Kimbo and Ray went so far as to tell one of these guys NOT TO SHOW UP AT THE FIGHT, just stay home and order the ppv because they didn't want him there.
God willing I'll grab an interview and some pics. These guys are on the level and the fight should be surprisingly good.

Oh just in case no ones mentioned it.. Falaniko Vitale has replaced Ninja on that strike force card.
It’s a smart match. Oh hay I know this is a touch out of place but now that Okami has lost to Franklin who should they book him for now? I mean I'm hoping he still has a place in Zuffa. I'm really wondering who Phil Baroni's first victem in the ufc will be when he gets back.
I might catch some crap for this idea but.. I noticed Ed Herman is finally starting to pick up some wins.. and well he had a real good fight with Kendal not to long ago (what was it two season's ago?) why not a rematch?

Does anyone know when or even IF an MMA promotion is coming to DC? I know there was a show in April at the DC Armory, but my friend was kind enough to inform me of it, a WEEK AFTER it happened. I just wanna know cause there's no way I can travel to Las Vegas and DC (my hometown) has been known for drawing EXCELLENT crowds for combat sports (mainly boxing). So if anyone comes across an MMA promotion coming to the nation's capital, please let me know.

I'm sure there is. Dare I suggest Google? I know UFC wants to make it to DC eventually but it's hard to say when that might happen. But I'm certain there are local events. In Austin we tend to have one every month or two, not to mention stuff in Dallas and Houston, so just do some looking around and I bet you'll find something.

So, Royce Gracie tested positive for more than 25X the normal limit of Nandrolone in a human body...

And yes, 411Mania beat Sherdog, MMAWeekly, and all those other places in reporting it!

That reminds me of when Chris Hyatte every week with child like glee would point out who spoiled smack down first that week amoung wrestling sights.
The real trick my friend isn't being first, but getting people to realize your first. (Has no idea how to go about pulling that one off)

In all of the excitement that is Penn/Pulver I almost forgot Kimbo vs Mercer was tonight.
And as I was typing "I think Alistair Overeem is fighting tonight too" I remembered it was in Holland so it was probably already over. Alistair and Gilbert Yvel both won in round one against people I don't know. And apparently Melvin Manhoef wrecked a guy in a kickboxing match.
