Rampage Arrested, Charged with Felonies
      #6139124 - 07/15/08 05:31 PM

Some Sherdogger is claiming he just witnessed Jackson getting arrested and took camera-phone pics to prove it. I don't know if this is fake, but it sure looks like Jackson's truck and "Rampage" laying face-down while the cop has his gun drawn. The poster said there was some damage to Jackson's truck so he assumed it could be a hit-and-run situation...

Got this from TMZ website

TMZ has learned former UFC heavyweight champ Rampage Jackson got busted just minutes ago, and is currently in custody on the way to the clink.

Law enforcement sources tell us, Rampage was in a car crash near Newport Beach (that's near Laguna Beach in the O.C.) and then split the scene. Cops gave chase and eventually caught up and charged him with felony hit and run and felony evading arrest.

We're told there could be additional charges. No word yet on whether Rampage resisted arrest.

Bad week. He got his ass handed to him last week (courtesy of Forrest Griffin) and just got it handed to him again.

Story developing ...

*Gets up on his podium.* Well I'd hate to tell you I told you so about Rampage Jackson being of poor quality and character, (honestly I do kind of hate it... I was finally warming up to the guy).

After his holier than though speech about Jessie on Ultimate fighter I am gonna point and laugh.

I hope he manages to fix all this, this may well could be thee biggest MMA self destruct ever.

And here it felt like slow news week so far.

Here's a local report on it:

Police arrest man after road pursuit

The driver of a lifted, gray pick-up truck left crashed cars, shredded tires and sparks in his wake this afternoon when he led police on a short pursuit from the southbound 55 freeway exit onto Newport Boulevard where he hit at least three cars, police officials said.

The driver, whom police could not immediately identify, hit two cars at 19th Street and Newport Boulevard, then drove away at about 1:13 p.m., said Lt. Paul Dondero. A Costa Mesa police officer saw the driver southbound approaching 17th Street and tried to pull him over, police said. There, he hit at least one more car before continuing to run, now heading south toward the Balboa Peninsula, Dondero said. Some time after that, the truck blew a tire but continued to drive on its rims, Dondero said.

The driver eventually gave up, pulled over and was arrested, police said. The whole chase lasted about five minutes, Dondero said.

And you can change the question mark in the title, Caplan contacted the sheriffs' department and they said indeed twas him and he's being charged with felony hit and run. He hit a couple of cars, ran red lights and finally got nabbed.

$25,000 bail.

I assume he will only serve community service, pay a bunch of fines and that's pretty much it.

The question mark was due to the fact I posted this before any major site had it (just some Sherdogger who witnessed it) so I wasn't sure it was true, but yeah...unfortunately it's edit time.

More encouraging words about the incident:

Quote:

The officer attempted to get the driver to stop, but he did not. Instead, he continued to evade police as he headed southbound on Newport Boulevard. At one point, the driver crossed over a median, “causing pedestrians to flee, going the wrong way on the northbound side of Newport Boulevard,” heading into oncoming traffic.

Well there's a couple of things going against Page.

1
He's black (but hay if R.Kelly can get off there's hope).
2
He's famous for mma. I mean what if the judge is some politcal douche bag like McKain?

Any who I found this at the dog and I just wanted to share.

First, how lucky is the UFC that Forrest Griffin beat "Rampage"? Much better from a company standpoint to have the former champ locked up than the current champ.

Jackson is definitely famous enough to get some love from the California legal system. Lindsay Lohan walked into a detention center with cocaine in her pocket and served an hour in jail. Nicole Richie was passed out on meds/alcohol on the wrong side of a highway received a similar penalty. Richie Sambora was driving drunk with his child in the car and the charges were dropped. And, I don't remember if this was California or not, but the black dude from CSI got caught with heroin in his car and got off scot-free.

Jackson did not hurt anyone and can argue the reckless driving was a result of his tire blowing out. He can argue he did not pull over because he panicked, but eventually did once he realized what was going on. Again, he is alleged to have not had any drugs in his system or vehicle. Reaser had it right. He'll get probation.

I won’t be surprised if Rampage gets jail time. The lack of drugs or alcohol might seem like a good thing, but it does raise questions about his intentions and state of mind during/prior to the arrest. He doesn’t have the excuses of liquor/drugs that rest of the Hollywood elite have. Thankfully the arrest occurred without him getting physical with the cops.

I like Rampage and I am a fan of his, but this type of thing is normally looked at differently if the person is high, giving them an excuse. Without a bogus excuse like drugs or alcohol, I foresee him being dealt with harshly. But, that’s just my opinion; he may walk at the end of it.

Will he be released by the UFC? That’s hard to say. I don’t think that question will be answered until Dana sits down with Rampage to find out where his mind is. Dana is normally one of those guys who likes to sit down with his guys and see where they are at mentally. If he doesn’t get a warm fuzzy from Rampage, we might not see him in the octagon in the foreseeable future.

What can they prove? He drove recklessly and endangered lives while having a blown out tire. He evaded the cops for around five minutes, then pulled over and got out of the car without incident. His state of mind is speculation, not fact. He has no prior arrests (that I know of). There were no drugs involved. I'll gladly eat my words if I'm wrong, but I guarantee Jackson spends less than a month in jail *IF* any time at all.

And he will not be released by the UFC. Again, he has no criminal history prior to this, and he's one of the biggest stars in the sport.

Seriously, people thinking he'll get some years in jail know nothing about the current state of our justice system, especially in California.

You'd think in a perfect world just as justice for the ruined days of people he caused he'd get a couple years but really he might get a month or two at the absolute most and probably a few hours and probation.

More than time behind bars, I just found myself intrigued by whether or not athletic commissions can impose a suspension/fine on Rampage based on conduct (other than in regards to drug testing). What if, for example, they could ban him from fighting in the State?

I'll be interested to see what response I get from the CSAC and NSAC.

He's fairly rich so look for the UFC and him personally to be sued to high heaven by the hit and run victim.

He is a violent Black man so look for him to get a few months in jail.

If this were lily white Mary Kate Olson she wouldn't serve a minute.

I thought Rampage was smarter then this really.

Maybe he didn't have insurance.

The lesson to be learned here is, if you're going to do a hit and run, don't drive around in a huge truck with your name and picture on the side.

By the way it's nice to see some good ol' fashioned racism from Nemesis:

"He's a violent black man so look for him to get a few months in jail."

What would we do without our precious trolls?

I'm pretty sure Nemesis was speaking tongue-in-cheek, basically saying Rampage will go to jail because he's black while skinny white Hollywood whores get off with only minimal punishment.

How much (if any) jail time is speculation at this point. I’m saying that if he is convicted, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get 60-90 days. His state of mind is substantive in that it makes a difference if he states he was scared/panicked versus just didn’t give a damn.

The state of our judicial system (even in California) doesn’t have to do with whether or not he’ll serve time if convicted. California has minimum sentences for felony hit and run, reckless driving, and evading. Obviously the judge could disregard the state traffic code, but that would be up to him.

To assume there isn’t any chance of him getting release may be premature. It’s doubtful he will, but I guarantee Dana would not have a second thought about cutting him if he thinks he’s lost it to the point that it might happen again. This is a leap, but the chance (however slight) is there.

As far as him getting sued, well, that’s what insurance is for.

Most insurance policies have stipulations stating that the insurance company will not cover any damages caused when the vehicle is used in a crime.

Insurance should cover the initial hit and run incident, but Jackson is most likely on his own during his 5 minute demolition derby.

I think Dana should keep him if for no other reason to keep some other company from picking him up. I could see Elite XC grabbing this ball and running with it.

If Dana wants to dump him, he should try and bury him first, what's Machida doing?

Argh! More trouble with "Rampage"! I'm almost certain he's bipolar, but anyways...

Quinton Jackson was picked up by police yesterday in California after friends of his "waved down" police at around 4:30PM when they became "worried" about Jackson's behavior. Jackson was apparently taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation.

From TMZ:

"Quinton "Rampage" Jackson has been picked up by police again.
Sources say around 4:30 PM yesterday, friends who were hanging out with Rampage, waved down an Irvine police car after they were worried about his behavior. This, of course, following the insane chase the day before in which the UFC fighter hit several cars in his monster truck and was arrested at gunpoint.

We're told Irvine cops saw Rampage, deemed him a danger to himself and others, and took him to a hospital for observation. Rampage was very coopertive with police.

Cops won't officially confirm if it's a psychiatric hold."

Jackson was arrested earlier this week for a felony hit-and-run and subsequent police chase (felony evading). He was able to post the $25,000 bail.

I thought he accepted the loss and was looking forward to a rematch.

Very strange he doesn't have a history of this type of behavior really.

Something is up.
