UFC 91: PICK'EM results (pg24) and discussion
      #6245524 - 11/10/08 09:52 PM

I'm sure we'll have new pick'em entrants so I'll go more in depth this time.

RULES: PM your picks to me, Huckaby, prior to the start of the live show (roughly 7:30pm EST on Saturday). Give me your winner, way of victory (strikes, sub hold or decision) and time of victory (1st Rd, 2nd Rd, 3rd Rd or decision). A strikes victory is anything that is not a submission hold or a decision. For instance a submission to strikes is "strikes" or if the guy's opponent gets hurt that still counts as strikes.

Most points win. Example: Arlovski, strikes, Rd1

If Arlovski wins via strikes in Rd1 you get 4 points.
If Arlovski wins via strikes in Rd3 you get 3 points.
If Arlovski wins via decision you get 2 points.
And if his opponent magog wins via flashing and makes Arlovski drop you get 0 points.

Let us go:

Quote:

Matt Brown vs Ryan Thomas
Alvin Robinson vs Mark Bocek
Jeremy Stephens vs Rafael dos Anjos
Jorge Gurgel vs Aaron Riley
Dustin Hazelett vs Tamdan McCrory
Nate Quarry vs Demian Maia
Gabriel Gonzaga vs Josh Hendricks
Kenny Florian vs Joe Stevenson
HW Title: Randy Couture vs Brock Lesnar

Again, due on Saturday evening. And reminder, the title fight could go five rounds while every other bout is three rounds maximum. Good luck.

I'm gonna be so pissed when I don't get to see the Hazelett vs McCrory

Dustin Hazelett is pretty much my best friend

we go way back

I watched him eat a hot dog at a BJJ tournament

You know between the hot dog remark and the avatar of the girl with the marker hanging out of her mouth, I'm wondering if he has a oral fixation on Felic like objects.

On the other hand, what did Freud say? A cigar is just a cigar?

Good news for Birth, bad news for Amir Sadollah.

MMAJunkie is reporting that Amir has suffered a leg infection and as a result his bout has been scratched completely. McCrory/Hazelett will now be on the main card.

True wisdom apparently comes from many unlikely sources. The thing is we really shouldn't be surprised. We've seen alot of unlikely fighters kept around due to who their friends with.

Pete Sell has a job because he's Serra's boy.

Dean Lister got his job because he was Tito's boy (kinda shocked he still has it)... considering how exciting Dean Lister is.

Being close friends/ corner man of Rich Franklin, a well liked TUF alumni, and a 'not terrible' 3-3 record in the UFC (12-4 overall), will keep him around for a while longer... if only as a decent gatekeeper.

I always thought Gurgel was more of a "backdoor" guy than a "backgate" one. Hey-yo!

"The squeeze is worth the juice." - Forrest Griffin

"The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices, to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill and suspicion can destroy, and a thoughtless, frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout all its own -- for the children, and the children yet unborn." - Rod Serling

"Death is but crossing the world, as friends do the seas; they live in one another still. For they must needs be present, that love and live in that which is omnipresent. In this divine glass they see face to face, and their converse is free, as well as pure. This is the comfort of friends; that though they may be said to die, yet their friendship and society are, in the best sense, ever present, because immortal." - William Penn

I was going to use a coin flips to decide Couture vs. Lesnar, then I considered doing it for all my picks, now I'm tempted to pick the opposite of Magog for every fight and see how that does.

I went with the lowercase god because that would have been blasphemous too waste my disdain for you on the almighty God.

But apparently "god" is plural of "God"

Magog's correction is highly incorrect.

It's only "God" if you believe that to be the proper name or title of the deity. If you don't believe that it's the actual God then you'd say "god".

For example:

Baal was the god of the Canaanites.

I am grateful that God is merciful.

You worship a false god.

Jesus Christ is God.

I write these as a Christian so they are appropriate. I guess if Magog worships this guy for real he can capitalize otherwise lowercase is where it's at.

I was assuming he was calling him by name when he said "oh God." and he was just being an atheistic smug ass by making it lower case because capping it would make him feel insecure.
In the same way many wiccans and gamers go out there way to say “Oh gods.” Cause it would cheapen their existence to pay homage to one singular deity.

Randy just weighed in at 220, Brock touching the 265 limit- and soon on his way to gain 10+ back before tomorrow's fight.

Not that he would have been able to match Brock's strength even if he were to go in weighing 250, but it seems crazy to intentionally give up that kind of a weight difference.

Panic at the Disco - Pretty. Odd.: Panic's long-awaited sophomore studio album saw the band go in a completely new direction and produce a sound often compared with The Beatles. Polished with slick melodies and sound vocal harmonies, the album is something of a psychedelic masterpiece and hopefully a sign of things to come from the band.

The LA Times is reporting through the NSAC tonight's main event salary figures early.

Randy Couture - $250,000 guaranteed, $250,000 win bonus
Brock Lesnar - $250,000 guaranteed, $200,000 win bonus

Add to that the assumption they get a % of PPV revenue and the fact this could be the highest bought PPV in history. Also add to that with the previously stated buyrate that there will probably be record bonuses for Fight, KO and sub of the night and both could easily be making 7 figures.

Picks in to cyks. I'm so embarrassed by them I almost didn't want to send them. I changed like 4 outcomes from my 5oz staff predictions if that gives you an idea.

I'm stuck at work tonight, but I've got web access. Anyone know of a site that might be streaming the show? If posting it is questionable, PM me a link please. I really want to see this, but can't because of friggin' work.
