I'm thinking of making a 411mania league for UFC Undisputed, though it's in the planning stages only at this point and need some input from potential fighters.
We have two options - use regular fighters or go to created fighters. Either way we'd hold off on starting the league until the game has been out for two weeks to allow people to pick it up and get some practice time in. I'm thinking we'd kick things off at the start of June. If we go the CAF route, we'd be able to take as many people as are interested, but people would need time to finish the single player so they can take their CAF online with full stats.
Regardless of which way we go, we'd start with no champions and no rankings. A randomly-seeded tournament would be held to determine champions as well as starting ranks.
After the initial seeding tournament we'd have weekly ranking battles to allow people to move up/down the rankings. The championship wouldn't be on the line during this period, and I'm thinking the number-one contender spot would be locked down after three weeks.
At the end of the four-week ranking period, we'd hold a PPV. Championships would be on the line, and there'd be an undercard of challenge fights determined by the league. We'll have a PPV poster for the events, along with a hype video and results posted after, all posted in the games zone.
Scheduled fights during the rankings period would have a one-week period to be fought, with opponents scheduling a time that works best for both of them. Not showing up for a scheduled fight within 10-15 minutes of the scheduled start will be a 'no show' loss. A disconnect, regardless of cause, will be ruled a loss for the person who disconnected.
I'm thinking there'd be a 'don't waste our time' clause - three 'no show' losses and you're out of the league. Three disconnects and you're out of the league.
Any ideas on how to do things differently, particularly in terms of the ranking shuffles? I'm not sure how to do that fairly, given that the championship won't potentially change hands until the PPV.

The problem with doing the CAF route would be that making a 'hype video' for the PPV would mean I'd need the formula you used to create your look, so I can capture the footage needed. Wouldn't be that big of a deal, I'd just use my other HDD for that saved game so it didn't take up my CAF slots 
The bigger issue is that you need to finish the single player to use your CAF online with their 'full' stats. I'd hate to see it held up because someone couldn't burn through the game.

yeah that sounds cool, and the people that are really dedicated to "the league" can hurry up and finish the damn single player if they really want to be a part of it
maybe we could have two brackets, a lottery for random selection of default fighters(so nobody fights over who gets to be Silva or Penn, etc) and another bracket for the best of the 411 grown best

You can only fight guys in your weight class, so that's taken care of. If there's a class that doesn't have enough entries, we'd have to ask the guy to switch. So long as there's four or five, I'd be willing to run the weight bracket since people can be added in down the road easily enough.

I think it would be fun.
The CAF guys will be wildly varied on skill though. I had a couple weeks with the game and my first couple CAF's for career mode sucked when compared to the real fighters, even at the end of their careers. So just to point out the large disparity that could arrive depending on who is good at the training aspects and who isn't.
I think my best guy who was a MT guy only got to the low 70s in clinch offense. Or maybe I just suck that bad.
But hey, maybe that's part of the fun.

Oh no, you just spar against the CPU and then depending how well you did, distribute points. But if you do piss poor, you hardly get anything along the way. And between that and doing auto point gains for your Str/Spd/Cardio it makes for finding a balance.
But getting enough skill points to work on all 16 skills is hard work. And the higher you level them, the higher the cost is to make a particular skill elite.

Why not start with real characters, then after it runs for a bit, if it is going well you can opt to start up a CAF tourney. This is an awesome idea by the way.

Well the idea is to keep it rolling indefinitely, so maybe CAF is the way to go from the start. That would let us have more fighters and would let people 'restart' with a new CAF whenever they feel like it.
Something else I thought about but didn't get into the original post rewrite (had it all ready and got the 'form not valid' when I posted initially) was that during a championship fight we could have an eight-person party going, including the two guys fighting. Opens the way to trash talk and illicit gambling!

I'm interested in seeing how my skills match up to other players online. A friend of mine came over last night and felt confident in his freshly practiced approach to Undisputed. I knocked him out four times in a row before he quit playing.

I fought Rua twice on Expert last night. Got into all this crazy ground shit.
Fights both ended with my blood everywhere, and me just covering up like a bitch with no recourse while he beats my face in. MY blood was splattered on both of our chests, it was pretty vicious.

I tried to buy it early today and they were going to sell it to me but the system put a big fat no-sell on the register, so I have to wait like the rest of you while the game teases me in the display case. I don't know of any mom and pop stores around here so I just have to wait.
