Hay Big Mike I noticed you have one stickied already but it spoils the event.

It's wierd seeing Phil Ivey play so well at the big show. He's normally in and out early.

Ivey came in motivated. I think after he won those 3 bracelets a few years back, there wasn't much more for him to do there. Then Harrah's bought the franchise, and added so much value to the tourneys.....it's really starting to become more of a prop bet situation for alotta pros now....huge last longer bets...pools on POTY....Ivey won two bracelets this year(so far), and on top of the prize money he has won....he's got 4-5 million in side action still to collect. Forget about the money he no doubt put on himself in the books this year....Phil Ivey is on fire, boy. And that is friggin' scary for poker.

Well I kinda noticed this years wsop events felt kinda short.
I think we only had 2 tournaments shown on tv before the wsop main event. Shame really.

The ratings for the other events were poor. They stopped doing the 50K HORSE event after last year on TV because the final table wasn't no limit hold 'em. The first year, when Chip Reese won it, it was, and the ratings were good. Then Deeb and Scotty won it the following two years, but the ratings were poor because they played HORSE at the final table. Those games are all LIMIT poker, and limit poker is BORING on TV. There is no "all in moment" really, and that is not good TV. Look for the 50K HORSE to convert to a 50K mixed game event, which is like 8-9 games, and then the final table will be no limit hold 'em, which would be televised. That'll happen next year.
The year Raymer won it was the best as far as coverage went...they covered like 7-8 events, plus the Main Event, and that included a 2-7 Lowball event that Barry Greenstein won....it is ALL hold 'em now.

Is their a check list of people here I need to ask? I just assumed this was Big Mikes infinite domain of power. Which would normally piss me off but Big Mikes a cool guy.
Any who this week was pretty damn interesting. Digging Darvin Moon. Sound, solid, patient poker. He wasn't even really playing table bully. He had the cards and bet with them. I noticed the irony of when he told the French gentleman he had the nuts he didn't believe him and than refused to show, he set him up to go on tilt. It must sucked to have trip 10s only to have the other guy value bet you on the river. He might have called an all in, assuming Moon was just trying to buy the pot.
Liking the Ivey train less and less. Having commercials jam this asshole down my throat, I really wanna see him bust out. Probably it's all this over exposure. Why couldn't this have been Allen Cunningham? The Norman Chad blow job isn't help sell him either.
It's weird seeing people bust out with 2 million to 4 million chips in their possession non stop. I'm reminded of the year where Jamie Gold went to the final table with about 50 percent of the chips and just steam rolled the table. It appears they'll be none of that this year. Well unless Darvin picks off the second highest chip stack.

Phil Ivey is the overwhelming favorite to be World Champ...it really doesn't matter. And since he'll be one of the remaining "names"...I gotta root for him. If only because it will help in the legalization of the online game.

Jainme Gold's year was money in hindsight. Eric Lynch, Prahlad Friedman, and Jeff Lisandro were all established pros who got close. Allen Cunningham of course go to the final table.You had Fred Goldberg fininsh jsut otuside the final table and then come back and win a bracelet the following year. And then of course you had Jaimie winnng, and that will be hotly debated forever and ever, although for my money, the established pros are very cautious of him when they play him, so that says all I think it needs to, despite the super internets players whining.
And then of coruse, we got Michael Binger and Paul Wasicka.

Granted...I only know from what I see on TV...but Gold has one weapon...his mouth. He should be a millionaire talking people into buying his TV shows and projects...but instead he is good at convincing you he has the best hand......maybe. That maybe won him the WSOP.
Outside from that tho....seems to me the best way to play Jamie Gold would be a set of earplugs. He bluffs way too much, has little knowledge of the odds, and IMHO is not that good, in comparison to others he has played with. Him getting schooled over and over on HSP and PAD is testament.

The hsp ownage was mostly very soon after his main event win
hes done allright on poker after dark, roughly the same as barry greenstein, eric lindgren and annie duk among others
from what i hear formt bale tlak form various pros, nobody is better at completely confusing you than jamie gold....and he seems to have improved on his general game...
we'll have to see where he is in a few years, but he seems to have been improving
then again, it might jsut be that the players who annoy me most are the cocky internet bastards who think they know every damn thing about the game....and those are the oens who are all about how crappy gold is.....so maybe im inclined to see him do well to piss them off

I fail to see how. I gotta go obvious and go Darvin Moon. He has the Jamie Gold chip stack and the tight image. He's also playing it humble and doesn't seem to be in a hurry to give chips back.
Their are 3 pro's out of 9. That's insane. I'll be happy if Darvin wins, Begs, or Shullmen.
The idea of a wall street douche bag taking it down and climbing his way back into money is two awesome for words. Phil seems to snap out of his funk. He doesn't have a over whelming chip count so if he does win, he'll have damn well earned it. I'm gonna predict he goes out fifth.

Ivey is going to have a good 30-40 big blinds left when this starts...that is more than enough to play poker. 10 or less big blinds is a short stack...that's what is going to make the FT interesting...because I don't think anyone is out of it totally....not like Kim from last year(finished 8th).
Dennis Phillips was huge chip leader as well, played too smart for his own good, and finished 3rd. A big stack doesn't mean he's a lock.
And Darvin Moon, above any of the others at the table, as nice and humble as he may be, will be TERRIBLE for poker should he win. Just awful. We already know the common man can win....Moneymaker, Yang...to some extent Gold...even Varkonyi from 2002...all guys could be considered "everyman"...we don't need the guy who will take his millions, disappear into the wilderness, never to be seen again. Moon isn't gonna be an embassador for poker...that money will not get recycled into the poker community...he's gonna sit on it, and be a logger. Which is fine, but it IS a reason for me and many others to root against him.
I could be wrong....Dennis Phillips was gonna go back to his trucking company and now he's a Pokerstars pro and is looking to buy said trucking company....so who knows.
There are two guys that have better Vegas odds than Ivey, and they are the top two chips stacks. Ivey is 7th in chips. That oughtta tell you something.
If Ivey wins, we will have some kind of tangible thing to show that poker is more than just the turn of the card, and as such, perhaps lead to the legalization of online poker...which I REALLY REALLY want. Despite the possibility of government taxing it so much it quite possibly would make it to expensive to play for the lower limit players. I digress. That's another thread.

honestly, i view moon to be different than moneymaker and others due to his extreme working class nature....yes, the others were everymen, but they all also has that job and that aura where you could beleive they were still a little different
this guy is a friggin logger, blue collar country boy to the core, and i beleive he would actually bring a ncie small boost of those types of people into the game, which would be good considering that this also tends to be a part of the group that is against poker..ie..Billy Bob Watson from Brimingham, Alabama maybe wont be so agaisnt poker and poker players when he sees one of "his" people win.
Ivey could also do similar thigns for the black population, which tends to me to be under-represented in poker
and then next year, Annette will be 21 in time for the series, and you best believe ill be rooting for her

This is going to sound perhaps a tad racist....but I gotta say it. Around 95% of black folks I have played hold 'em with are TERRIBLE. LAG to a fault. You just have to check call for two rounds and spring the raise on the end. They won't stop betting...they don't know or care what you have. It's AWESOME.
At least at Seneca anyway. If Ivey winning loads the brick and mortar rooms with bus loads of black folk with money in their pockets....right the fuck on.

I use the term "legal" loosely. It's legal to play. It's not legal for your bank to be any part in assisting you load your account.
And Jay....the thing is you gotta have it. Don't try to bluff...'cause most times they are over-betting something like bottom pair. So don't bluff. Have a hand. That's key. Just disguise it until the very end.

Yeah...that's how I do it too. eChecks. I load up just fine, usually. It goes down sometimes here in the US when the banks catch up with the codes PS uses to process the payments. Comes back within a day or so.
It's the cashing out that is an issue. I haven't been playing online much lately, but I've heard horror stories about delayed funds, etc. Sending money back can be a problem for some banks. And I read that even the paper checks aren't clearing.
But that's the US. I don't think it would affect you, Max.
Yeah....the FT....they play on Saturday down to 2 players. Sunday night, the heads up battle begins, and they play to a winner. ESPN goes to work immediately to edit the broadcast, and Tuesday night they show it on a 2 hour show.

i just watched the final 14 last night...how sick was moon's trip 8's over buddies pocket rockets?!!?
that shit makes me wanna puke, and i feel (to a much lesser extent) buddies' pain. i was in a tourney with buddies last week, kinda short stacked, got dealt cowboys, just called the bb, bb bet something like 70% of my chip stack, but had been betting with shit all night, so i hummed and ha'd for a bit, then pushed all in.
he has a pair of 7's v. my kings.

i came 3rd in a 4000 man 20 FPP and won $82, and went up to low games, played like a dink half the time, suffered disgustingly bad beats the other half, and lost it all.

it's lowball basically.
you get dealt 5 cards, get to discard once, and the idea is to get the lowest possible hand.
ideally 2-4-5-6-7 all different suits, well, no flush at least.

Dude totally. Play Razz for like an hour, and you'll get full houses and sets ALL DAY. It's insane because the cards are dealt to you the same way.
