And we're rolling... - 07.04.2008
I liked doing this so much that I wanted to type up more. I don't comment much on outside stuff in my reviews, and it's nice to think that someone may be reading my thoughts.
As far as reviewing plans, I've given myself a project: Review a show from every televised puro company in 2008. I've got New Japan and NOAH done, I'm working on Osaka Pro's Hurricane show, and after that I'll look at one each from Zero-One, All Japan, Michinoku Pro, Dragon Gate, El Dorado, Dradition, Kensuke Office, DDT, K-DOJO, and Big Japan. That should keep me busy for the remainder of the year. I'm aiming to all the ROH PPVs as well, and maybe WWE PPVs in there as well. As far as IWA Mid-South goes, I've been told their last shows were around 3 hours in length, not 5, so maybe I'll up to tackling it.
The White Sox lost tonight, but 3 straight nights of late inning heroics was probably asking too much. This ends the Sox winning streak at 7. The unfortunate thing about that winning streak was that the Twins and Tigers were playing each other during part of it, so the Sox couldn't gain ground much either way. And god forbid an NL team help us out by beating them in interleague play. Worse yet, the Sox have Oakland while the Twins play the basement-dwelling Indians, and the Tigers get to pound on the hapless Mariners. Sox need to take 2 out of 3 from Oakland and hopefully sweep the Royals next week. Both the Tigers and Twins might sweep this weekend, but then the Twins are at Boston for 3 games. That's where the Sox need to gain some ground.
Mark and smart mark and smark are thrown around a lot on the IWC. I regularly post on the Chicago Pro Wrestling board (chiprowrestling.proboards33.com) and a lot of guys get on the ROH and IWA crowds for being too "smarky". I can't really defend the IWA ones, because many of them are the worst kind-they think they know everything, they drink the company's kool-aid, and sit on their hands at shows. With the ROH audience, I see it a bit different in Chicago. I will openly admit I was jumping up and down and into the action in the two main events this past Saturday. It got me thinking-are there starting to be ROH marks? Yes, these people still go on the boards and they aren't morons, but instead of viewing the show from analytical perspective, like a critic, they go to be entertained! Same way a kid goes to a WWE show. Let me know what you think.
If anyone ever wants to chat with at shows, let me know. I rarely attend shows outside of ROH anymore simply because my few wrestling buddies don't enjoy much else.

And we're rolling... - 07.03.2008
I decided to do more on this site by letting out some of my random thoughts in this blog. I hope some of the readers take a look at it.
I just finished watching the John Adams HBO series on DVD, and I loved it. I'm a history nerd, way before I was into sports or wrestling or anything else. And even at a young age, I noticed how portrayals of the Founding Fathers were just too glossed over with patriotism and legend; where was the REAL story? Who were these men? I think the series captured that even in the details. The thing that got me were their teeth. Everyone back then had rotting, blackened teeth, no matter their status, and they showed it as such here. Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney of course shined with their portrayal of one of the most in love couples I've ever seen, but I also enjoyed David Morse as George Washington, and dear lord does he look the part. Go pick this up, because it's an extremely interesting perspective into a president, one that is rarely seen or explored.
I've been paying a lot of attention to Ashish's election coverage. Some say he has an Obama bias, but everyone is leaning one way or another, and I really don't think he has been unfair in his coverage towards McCain. The old man is just gonna get his ass whipped, plain and simple. Yes, I plan to vote for Obama, I'm a liberal, and I'm proud to say that. I hate the religious right with every fiber of my being, the Republicans have driven us into massive debt with the war effort, while holding onto their old Reaganomics policies, aka financial patronage. They've lied, they've deceived, and they used a national tragedy as an excuse to gain more and more power. It's done. Their time is done. The conservative revolution ends in November.
My beloved White Sox are winning, but they've got a hell of a fight left. How could we be so foolish as to write off the Twins? Every year these guys find a way to be in the race when no one thinks they can contend. The Tigers are surging back, but I still have doubts with them. No team has gotten off to as bad of a start as they did and made the playoffs. It'll be the pitching that decides it, and I think the Sox have the best rotation in the division now that Floyd and Danks have had unexpectedly good outings.
I got an e-mail from someone asking what my favorite promotion ever is. Well, that's hard to say. I was never around for the territories. I was a fan who got hooked around 97. But from what I've seen of ordering some of their TV stuff, World Class might be my pick. Red hot crowds, not much in the way of cartoonishness, and brawling where it looks like a damn bar fight, not a pillow fight like in Memphis (worst territory ever). Kevin Von Erich is definitely in my top 5 of all time from what I've seen.
I actually reviewed something before J.D. Dunn did. Check out my review of A New Level from ROH if you haven't already.
