And we're rolling... - 06.13.2007
I have gotten plenty of feedback already about the ECW show from last night, from both readers and my fellow writers. And the question surrounding it all can be summed up in one word...
HOW?
How could the WWE be so disrepectful and distasteful?
How could the WWE treat the fake detah of Vince like the true tragedies like Owen Hart, Davey Boy Smith, and Eddie Guerrero?
And how in the world could I stay on track, keep some sort of decour, and not rip apart the whole show?
While I have my theories on the first two, I will answer the last question first, because it is the only one in which I can answer without any hesitation or guesswork. I was able to keep such a calm composure on my recap for the simple fact that I am giving everyone what I am supposed to and that simply is what I see on my television screen without any bias or opinions. Now, do I do it sometimes? Of course, but who doesn't. But without being able to sit back and take in everything going on in front of me, you wouldn't have gotten a reacp last night. You would gotten my shitting on the whole angle for 45 minutes while somwehere in between giving you match results. That's not what I am all about and I was not going to go back on it for any reason. My position here is ECW recapper, not opinionator or anything else, because that is left to Stu's Friendly Competition and the 3R's run by Larry.
Now, do I agree that what the WWE was disrepectful? 100% Yes. Distasteful? 100 % Yes. Do I wonder why I still watch after seeing it compared to Owen Hart or Eddie Guerrero? 100% Yes. Do I know why they did it? Not exactly, but I have a hunch. What drives everything the WWE does? Ratings and media coverage! And just look at how much coverage did this get from EVERY major news outlet in America and elsewhere yesterday. Hell, even ESPN showed the explosion on Sportscenter. And they are just hoping that you tune in to the ECW, to Smackdown, and to Raw to see just what happened and what happens next. If we all tune in, they win, and you know what... we will and they will.
Do I agree with what they did? Not at all... after Monday Night. I agree that they needed to get Vince McMahon off our television sets and that this was, well, a creative way of doing it. But to see them ring the bell for the count of ten, I am glad the fans reacted the way they did. I'm glad Joey Styles and Tazz called the fans reaction disrespectful, because it should have been shit on. I wonder how in the hell Tazz and Joey Styles were able to say that with straight faces, other than the fact that it is their job. And at the same time, I wonder if deep down they were talking about the angle itself and not the fans.
In the end, the WWE is doing what they have to do and I did what I had to do. |

And we're rolling... - 01.08.2007
Now, I am normally not the guy to go off and openly criticize anyone and anything (ok, maybe I'm not), but as the ECW Recapper for 411, I feel this is justified.
The ECW currently has been delegated as the 'C' show of the WWE, especially after the loses of Kurt Angle, The Big Show, and the drug bust of Rob Van Dam. So they done the best with what they have, building up something of a title story with Lashley, RVD, and Test. They have started a new little thing with CM Punk and Hardcore Holly, which I am excited for. They attempted Matt Striker vs. Balls Mahoney, but I think they forgot about that.
And then... there is, or was, Tommy Dreamer going after The Great Khali. And now after a full month of beating up on Daivari and then getting dropped on his back like an abused newborn, we get... nothing. We get Tommy Dreamer saying he will never quit going after The Great Khali, but now he will never get his chance. Why? Because the WWE has decided to have Khali's contract "expire" and have him go to Raw, which effectivly kills all of Dreamer's build for the past month.
Great job WWE. You want to give us quality programming, but you can't do it by killing a story before the conclusion. I have defended many of the decisions of the WWE that the IWC has called wrong or questionable and blasted many more. But there is no defending this. There is no way this can be right on any level. |
