And we're rolling... - 06.16.2008
Samer and Wyku questioned my thoughts about Machida being in a bad shape:
Why exactly did Machida look in bad shape?
"Machida had a bout in May, he was in a bad shape and I doubt
that his next fight would be on September. "
What the hell are you talking about?? Man, I forgot that I told
myself to stop reading this terrible column, I won't forget again.
Well he could barely stand after the fight. If you take a good look, after the fight when he got his hand raised, his cornermen were holding him. Actually, I read somewhere in SherDog forums, that Machida wrote *somewhere* that he was very ill and that’s why he got in bad positions on the ground and couldn’t finish Tito after that knee. I did not find a source of that information, but supposedly, the poster translated it from Portuguese. So that’s why I say that he was in bad shape. Whether it’s true or not, Machida did look really tired after the fight.
My reply to all the feedback about Kimbo vs. Thompson. You see, what most of you didn’t realize, was that these facts were about Kimbo/Thompson fight and not about “Why the ref’s decision was good” and not about “Why Kimbo is still God”. My point is, I was not trying to defend anyone with those facts. You see, after watching the EliteXC Primetime event, I thought it was great. Then I go to internet and read comments that it was the most controversial event ever, Kimbo tapped, blah blah blah (and someone said that James losen his grip after Kimbo tapped, that’s bullshit, because in the press conference Thompson said that Slice did not tap). First I read all the negative feedback and then I saw articles, which tried to defend the referee, Kimbo or EliteXC. It’s interesting when a fight generates so much feedback. That’s why I gathered these facts. What you don’t realize it’s that it was INFORMATION and not MY OPINION. I thought that they would be interesting to people who only visit the MMA zone on 411 like once in a day and don’t go to other sites or forums, but watch the MMA events. After reading articles and listening to post fight interviews, it was clear to me why the fight wasn’t stopped in the 2nd and why it was stopped in the 3rd. And that’s why I said that these facts MIGHT change your opinion too. But I agree that I was a little wrong when I said “There's nothing controversial here.” The referee’s decisions were a little controversial, but many stoppages in MMA are. Just look at UFC 85, it was also full of controversy. Sometimes it’s difficult for the referees to make good decisions, they are humans and that’s why in MMA things like these happen. After hearing Miragliotta’s comments about the fight, I see no reason to continue to bash him, Kimbo or EliteXC, but it turns out that I am in the minority.
Vera should’ve given the referee a thumbs up and he would be saved. That’s actually funny and weird at the same time. I don’t know, maybe Dan, after that main event in EliteXC thought “Yeah, I made a mistake there. Not going to happen again.” And in a very similar situation, he stopped the fight. Well, punches from mount are certainly more dangerous than short elbows, but like I said last week, I thought that it was a bad stoppage, a little early to say the least.
romano, actually your comment was very funny. You said this:
reading your "facts"...i dunno, they just read funny...i
think that someone should have advised you not to include them, they
are kind of weak, and really have an odd tone to them...perhaps you
should admit that you're a kimbo apologist? why can't we all just
call it like it was? kimbo looked like garbage against a can, and
the fight was stopped a bit prematurely. thompson looked goofier
after the barrage, but i feel that kimbo was gassed and he may have
fallen from the punches that he was throwing before the can
did...that being said, no, the fight should not have been stopped in
the second...kimbo wasn't being damaged by those blows. overall
though, a good editor would have told you that your arguments were
weak and only hurt your reputation...advice, go get someone that
writes really well..a high school teacher or something and have them
edit..whether they know anything about mma or not, they'll be able to
tell you if you've actually made a point or made yourself look stupid.
And your point is? A shortened version of this comment would look like “Your facts are funny, you need help, but I agree with everything you said”. So if you agree with “the stupid one’s” comments, then don’t you make yourself look stupid?
Anyways, thanks for all the feedback, I don’t care if it’s negative. It’s kind of fun when people direct their hate comments to me, lol. |
