Yup, this is what I do when avoiding working on my columns. Revealing, isn't it?
And we're rolling... - 05.14.2008

You know what I just realized? I haven't done a blog in forever! Well, since the beginning of April, but you know what I mean. Time for some randomness!

I am going to Rock on the Range this Saturday, and as long as Scott Weiland can stay out of jail/rehab, I am psyched to see the return of ST fucking P. Lots of other good bands on the bill too, so it should be a pretty good time.

Note to Sen. Arlen Specter: Give it a rest, man! Look, I hate the Patriots just like everybody else does, but you're really putting too much effort into this thing. There was no walk-through video. The video guy lied. You're looking for something that just isn't there. If it was, Roger Goodell would have hammered the Pats like they were a Bengal linebacker that had a DUI two years ago.

Larry sent me a picture of Death Rey's new look, and I gotta tell you, it doesn't do a whole lot for me. The painted eyebrows are pretty atrocious, and Sara looks meaner than my ex-girlfriend after I got drunk and told her what I really thought about her friends. We all liked the American Angel look better. Sara, go back to what we love. Don't be a meanie like 99.9% of the women I know. And believe me, that .1's getting smaller by the day.

Reds suck. That's all I have to say about that.

The NBA Playoffs would be more fun if somebody could win a freaking road game. I don't even need to watch it because I know how each game's gonna end up. Whasupwitdat?

Boston Legal has been renewed! But it'll be on Mondays at 10? Ouch. This no good.

Thanks to everybody for continuing to read my columns and keeping Larry from firing me.
And we're rolling... - 04.01.2008

There will be a news column from your humble correspondent on Friday, but Ask 411 Wrestling is taking the week off from answering all the questions you need to know the answers to. OK, "need" is kind of pushing it. If you want more Cook goodness to fill the time, go check out the Buy or Sell column I did last week with Domingo that got no love because everybody was too hyped up over this WM business to pay attention to a column about the indies. We really brought our A game, if I say so myself. To be honest, I brought my C game and Domingo brought his A game, but luckily my C game is just as good as his A game so it worked out pretty well.

Booooooooooooooooooooohica!
And we're rolling... - 01.27.2008

It's my bi-monthly wrestling news report fill-in! I'll cover all the pertinent wrestling news, talk about my latest Dayton ROH experience, and throw in some random nonsense! Plus, you'll find out the true story behind Ari Berenstein's concession speech...check it out this Thursday right here on 411mania.com!
And we're rolling... - 12.24.2007

Well, no fantasy football championship this year for your humble correspondent. I finished a disappointing 11th in the staff league with a record of 6-8, but I managed to turn a 1-5 dead in the water team into a 7-7 6th place team in the forum league. Too bad that all happened after Penguin & I stopped doing the fantasy football preview because nobody read it. In my non-Internet based league, I finished 3rd place (9-5, 2nd in the regular season) behind the performance of Tom Brady, Randy Moss & Tennessee's defense. Things didn't look good when Willie Parker broke his leg Thursday night, but my opponent opted to bench Clinton Portis & Steve Smith this week. He probably didn't expect them to combine for 42 points, which would have been enough to make up the 19 point margin between us. The -1 from Green Bay's defense didn't help him either. All in all, a nice way to end a largely disappointing fantasy football season. Here's to better things in 2008.

Speaking of better things, I finally made it to an NWF show for the first time in over a year this past Saturday night. They've started holding shows at Shimmers Ballroom in Ft. Wright, which is great on the following levels:

-It's an easy drive from my house
-There's a tavern adjacent to the ballroom
-There's a bar in the ballroom

Wrestling + Beer = Heaven. I spent most of the show sitting at the bar throwing back some Bud Light, watching the wrestling, and occasionally glancing at the bartender's cleavage. Good times. The opener featured 411 favorite Karl Chad 2 Badd Machine Gun Allegra Anderson going over Anthony Bryant. I'm a big fan of Chad's no matter what name he's using, so it was good to see him. My favorite current Southern heel tag team, the Hayes Brothers, came up a little short against the Hippies. Of course, they would have won if not for that meddling CEO Kirk Sheppard counting the pinfall for the Hippies. Is he even a licensed official? The main event had Wildcat Chris Harris & Abyss defeating Ryan Stone & Roger Ruffin in a fun no DQ brawl. It's not too often that you're going to see the team of Chris Harris & Abyss, that's for sure. Good show from top to bottom, I'd recommend checking out their website for more information about it. With all of the craziness going on in the Cincinnati indy scene these days, the NWF is the most reliable promotion out there and they have a good product that's also family friendly. I love seeing kids at these small shows going all crazy for the faces and booing the heels. Ah, youth.

Unfortunately their next show there is on my sister's birthday, so I don't know if I'll be back for that one or not. Time will tell.
And we're rolling... - 12.01.2007

I am using a review from "RunningKneeStrike" on the ROH board to fill in the blanks. You can read that here.

"My third ever ROH show, all of which were in Dayton. This one was a whole lot of fun. The matches were great, the crowd...........not so much. This was a huge crowd for Dayton, but a lot of dumb fans spoiled the evening. More to come later."

Actually, the dumb fans don't bother me nearly as much as they used to. Probably because this was my 10th ROH show in Dayton and I'm used to them.

"We got there right at 8, and as we did, Skyfire and Claudio were getting ready to start.........so I don't think there were any dark matches."

There were a couple of dark matches. You didn't miss much because it was all ROH wrestling school students, but the ring announcing (apparently from Adam Pearce) was pretty interesting.

"We had General Admission seats, and there wasn't room in the bleachers! thats how packed it was. (and, possibly, how late we were) We stood the whole night........but no complaints."

I think you missed them putting up another set of bleachers by a few minutes or so. It was a pretty good sized crowd by Dayton standards, larger than they were expecting for sure.

"Skyfire looked really good, got his offense in, and really kept up with Claudio on the mat. It was, of course, Claudio's match, but easily exceeded expectations, considering we expected it to be completely one-sided. Claudio wins with the Ricola bomb.........crowd loved every second."

Claudio was his usual self, but I wasn't too impressed with Skyfire. Not surprising since I didn't care much for him in OVW, but he was missing some stuff pretty badly, especially towards the end of the match.

"I go to the merch table to ask where Nigel is, considering I can't find him. The guy running it says he doesn't know if Nigel is going to show up........in hindsight, I wonder if he was lying to me."

Somebody in wrestling lying? Oh noes!

"I also found out the return date is January 25......eight weeks away. Wow, thats not much time."

My theory is that they're trying to get the Dayton shows out of the way before the summer months, when the Montgomery County Fairgrounds becomes an intolerable oven. That's not a bad idea.

"Second match was Pearce/Delirious falls count anywhere. This was pretty good for what it was. These two never were actually in the ring. Wow, has Delirious' beard gotten long. The two fight through the crowd, and all me and my friends can think is WOW the chair shots to the back are stiff. It is to the point where Delirious' back in bleeding. Pearce's interaction with the crowd is awesome. Eventually, they start climbing the scaffolding for the lighting. The best part was seeing the poor light operator, at the top of the scaffold FREAKING out as they climb up, telling them to get off. Delirious ended up weaving Pearce through bars of the scaffold, and locking in the Cobra clutch, making Pearce tap. Fun brawl, but this will suck on DVD."

It could be even better on DVD, especially since you'll see my handsome mug during a good bit of it. Delirious threw Pearce over the rail and right into us, his foot struck my right hand. Which makes it amazing that I can even type this. I blame my friend for the predicament because he made the argument "they never actually throw the guy over the rail when they say they will". He'll learn.

"Third match was Hero against Jigsaw. WOW was SNS hilarious. Jigsaw really got the crowd behind him. Hero basically spent the first 7 minutes stalling and showing off with kneewalks and unnecessary moonsaults. (the usual) Jigsaw just stood back shocked at the ridiculousness. hilarious stuff. Once the match actually got going, Jigsaw showed the crowd every possible way to do an armdrag. Match was, once again, much more competitive than expected. Not gonna lie: I actually was thinking upset several times. Hero eventually did win With a WEIRD new Sitout Cravate breaker and submission. Cant make a move like this up: you gotta see it. Good match, and SNS made it even better."

Hero is pretty damn great right now, and his entourage rules it. Jigsaw looked really good during the match in a losing effort. The "Chris is Awesome" chant is hilarious, and I love that dueling with "Fuck you, Hero". There's no middle ground for Chris Hero.

"I see Gabe Sapolsky walking to the march table, I thank him for all he does."

Yikes. My friend saw Gabe during intermission and got worried because he was wearing a Hangmen 3 t-shirt.

"Danielson vs. Necro was..........different, especially for Dragon. Necro came out and pulled up ALL the mats, so all spots on the floor will be on the wood/concrete. I mark out for Dragon......hes my fav! Nice little brawl. They spent a LONG time on the outside....a very long time. They get in the ring and have some ok spots with a chair. Eventually, Dragon hits a sick little back suplex on to the chair, and Necro was on the defensive from there. Dragon wins with Cattle Mutilation: cant tell if Necro tapped or passed out. If he tapped........thats awkward to me. Isn't he supposed to be triple tough? Necro was SLOW to recover after words, and since the match felt so short, I'm thinking he may have called for the ending, and his arm seemed to be bothering him. Not a bad match, but I wanted more."

Necro tapped out like a bitch. I say this only because I'm confident he won't hear about it and then kill me in my sleep. The match was pretty much what I expected...short and violent. It wasn't a dream match or anything, but I enjoyed it.

"Prazac is introduced, and hypes the crowd for the PPV taping. NRC comes out and the crowd hates them. Briscoes are over big time. The match was very solid, and very different from your normal Briscoes match in that you didn't have the usual dueling workover period before the breakdown. They worked over Rocky a little, then a breakdown. Then some back and forth tags, then ANOTHER breakdown. Davey was awesome tonight ,hitting everything, getting heat, and just coming off awesome. Again, they fooled me: I thought NRC had it. Rocky hit the Diablo Armbar just as Davey cleared the other Briscoe from the ring, and I thought: a big submission, and hes got a guard....this is it. But of course, Jay made it to the ropes, and The briscoes hit a NOISY doomsday for the win. This was a good match that will look good on the PPV. Probably match of the night.......depending on if you liked the Ironman ending and a spotfest main event."

Match of the Night in my book. All sorts of crazy fun stuff here. Briscoes rule.

"Intermission: Nigel is signing autographs! We found him! I congratulate him for the title win and mark out as I get a picture, and have him autograph a SWEET poster. And then I realize.......wait, he's in his wrestling gear. Why is he in wrestling gear for an autograph session?"

We did not see Nigel (at this point, he was spotted by me signing autographs after the show). I made my way right over to the special refreshment stand set up next to the merch table. I've never understood this...at every Dayton show there's the regular refreshment stand that always has a line during intermission that's way too long. Then there's a separate table, usually manned by two attractive girls, that has water, some soda, and popcorn. The line there is never long at all. I don't get it. Are the hot dogs there really that good? I also ran into Ron Gamble, who didn't recognize me at first. I was 40+ lbs. heavier the last time he saw me, so I can't blame him. He looked the same, and I think he's been wearing the same Steeler jersey since the last time I saw him.

"Jimmy Yang is in the building! Cool guy, I said hello."

Jimmy seemed personable enough, he was chatting with everybody around. I did not get to chat with him, but I saw Sara Del Rey walking away from the merch table and decided to ask her a question that has been on all of our minds...it is "Del Rey", right? It is, and she also has a problem where people want to spell her first name with an "H" at the end. We talked for maybe a little less than a minute, and I managed not to say anything stupid. Amazing. She's good people, and now I feel bad for not springing for the Death Rey t-shirt.

"I return to our 'seats'....aka, the place in the corner where we are standing, and tell them my concerns.

Silas Young is introduced.........delayed dark match? NIGEL'S MUSIC HITS! My dad marks out, he loves Nigel! Nigel and Silas have a short match, but WOW did Silas make a good impression. Nigel hits all his big ones and wins with a new keylock/camel submission. Interesting new move."

Nigel was a pleasant surprise. Silas looked good, and his entrance music "Don't Stop Believin'" got a great pop and sing-along from the crowd. Another beef: ROH's sound guy cut off the song before the chorus, and also did it during Danielson's theme music after the match so we couldn't yell "THE FINAL COUNTDOWN!". Very disappointing.

"Nigel gives a speech about how great Silas Young is, and wants to see more of him soon. (not good Silas, he said this about Walters last year and we haven't seen him since!) Nigel says he loves Dayton, and wanted to give us a match. How cool of him: he didnt need to perform tonight, and it meant a lot that he respected us enough to do so.

Nigel is interrupted by SNS. AWESOME promo by Sweeney, as Hero wants a title match. It was strange, but I THINK they announced Hero vs. Nigel for the World Title next Dayton show. Now sure, because it was kinda confusing. SNS argues over which members get to attack Nigel, it ends up being Tank and Bobby: Nigel owns them until Hero gets involved with a cheap shot. They set Nigel up for an armbreaker with a chair before CLAUDIO makes the save. Nice series of promos, good little setup, Nigel's match was an awesome surprise."

Yeah, this was all pretty awesome and I'm looking forward to a possible Nigel vs. Hero title match in 8 weeks. You missed one of the best parts though...Sara Del Rey telling Sweeney that she wanted to fight Nigel. My friend pointed out that she's a Danielson protege, so she probably knows how to beat Nigel.

"Tornado's music hits and the crowd loves him. Stevens comes out, and grabs the mic...saying he wants Davey Richards tonight. Richards comes out AGAIN! Richards and Stevens brawl, and they make it a three-way!

I see Gabe walking back to the merch table, I pull him aside and say: this was a good idea. He agrees!

Stevens and Tornado team up........and Tornado starts being hilarious, so many funny little lines and spots during the team up. He was just goofing off and it was hilarious. The match itself was good, considering it was mostly just funny gag after funny gag. Richards got hit with a stiff lariat, and his nose is bleeding. Ending came when Richards fought them both off, locked in his keylock submission, and made tornado tap QUICK. Richards was awesome in this, but Tornado made everyone love him. He was just......so.......funny! For Stevens, not a very great or impressive return."

Tornado was awesome. I'm still not impressed with Stevens, but it was a darn good idea to make this a three-way.

"Aries vs. Strong was very very good......the crowd hurt it a lot though. They just did NOT get into this match. My friend and I were loving the back and forth, but the crowd just did not support it. They make it to the 15 minute mark with goose-eggs, and its looking good. Aries nails a SICK kick to the head and hits his submission for a first fall. Not long after, Aries reverses a Stronghold attempt for a second. Crowd is QUIET, and it sucks, cuz this is fun. Roderick gets frustrated and hits like 3 backbreakers and a Gibson driver for a fall, and then follows with a Stronghold for a second. Soon after, Aries is fighting back, and goes for the four fifty, but Strong gets the knees up and Aries looks DEAD. Strong gets a third fall. Then, it gets INCREDIBLE. Strong locks in another Stronghold, and Aries pulls to the ropes, but Strong WONT LET GO. Sinclair wont award Aries a fall for something like a DQ, so Aries pulls them BOTH out, under the bottom rope, to the floor. Strong then REAPLLIES the stronghold on the floor. Aries is HURTING! Strong then rolls in the ring. Of course, there are no countouts. Aries keeps trying to get in the ring, and Strong just knocks him down. Once, Aries hits the guardrail hard, and is down a long time. Strong is trying to win by not letting Aries back in the ring. So, you would think the crowd is going nuts for Aries to get in the ring, and try to even it up..........nope, they are quiet, not digging ANY of Aries awesome attempts. Aries eventually flurries his way in, and hits a BIG LOUD AWESOME kick, locking in his submission and tying it up with a minute to go. Then the locks it in again, and as time runs out, Sinclair delares that Rodercik has passed out, giving the win to Aries. Many booed the ending, I loved it! Again, this match would have been great, except the crowd just killed it. Some moron in the back comparing Roderick to Hardcore Holly and Khali didn't help, either.

So many fans think they are funny. None of these fans were. I'm all for fan interaction: but only if you are clever, and aren't ruining the match like these guys did tonight. This was a good match, and the crowd got killed, in large part because of these clowns."

Iron man matches are tough to get into early because you know how long it's going to go, so you sit back, wait and see what happens and then react. I have to disagree with the reviewer here, the ending was absolutely horrendous and Todd Sinclair did a horrible job of making us realize what happened at the very end. Like I said earlier, you get used to the hecklers eventually. It didn't seem like Aries was trying that hard to get in the ring either, he was just walking around on the outside and slapping his hand against the mat. That seemed like a pretty dumb strategy when there was 2 minutes left in the match. This was the only real disappointment of the night to me, everything else was either better than I thought it would be or right on track with my expectations.

"Main event..........wow. FLASHBANG! Vulture Squad enter, and get jumped by the Hangmen. It was so cool to see Jack and Ruckus hit the same, seemingly impossible stunts, in unison. These two are FUN. AOTF jump the guardrail.......Tyler Black is tall. Lacey is........wow! Briscoes come out with Daizee Haze...........since when is she with them? weird. Ok, so Basically, everyone goes insane. Team after team gets short advantages, hitting cool spots, and then losing control to another team. I thought Whitmer would stink up the place, but he was so much fun........so fast, and stiff! Albright dropped EVERYONE on their necks. Honestly, everyone hit their stuff, everyone looked great. The Briscoes, shockingly enough, didn't get as much control as others, which I think is great for the other three teams. Tyler Black kicks hard and flies well. I finally got to see his Paroxysm move...very nice. I would give more details, but I cant do this match justice. Let me just say everyone shined, no one was left out, everyone left this match looking good enough to stand up to the Briscoes. Vulture Quad win When Evans hits a 630. Don't remember who he pinned, but it wasn't a Briscoe. If you hate spotfests, just dont watch this, cuz its nothing but spots. I actually do hate spotfests in general, but this one was logical, with TEAMS gaining advantage rather than individuals. Perfect way to end the night."

It was Mark Briscoe he pinned, actually. I thought it was a bit of an upset, but this was a really fun match. And there was a bunch of stuff that I missed because there was too much going on. The Jacobs vs. Whitmer standoff got a pretty big pop, that was a highlight that didn't feature people flying all over the place.

"I attended FYF:Dayton, United we stand, and This show, and this was the best quality show. Everything but Pearce/Delirious and Nigel's match was prolly over three stars. The Ironman would have been four easily if the crowd didn't kill this. Maybe the match will be good on DVD...I hope so. I love that ROH got such a big crowd, but of course, bigger crowd mean more room for jesters. MVP goes to Davey Richards....which I cant even believe Im saying. Both of Richards' matches were very good: his moves were clean, and stiff, and good. His selling was on another level, and he really made both matches he was in. In all honesty, Davey deserves a whole lot of attention for his efforts tonight."

My MVP? Davey & Briscoes get a lot of love for doing two matches, and all of Sweet & Sour Inc. was at their best. Give it to all of them...they can share a turkey like John Madden used to give the MVP of the Thanksgiving football game. There was a lot of flying on the show, which I liked, and also a lot of submissions, which I also liked.

"I didn't mind standing through the show......chairs would have been nice, but we had fun. There was not one, standout, MOTYC match, but it was solid and fun all the way through. A great time, and I really appreciate ROH. I'll be buying this one on DVD: and that actually says something from me.

I had a great time. Thank you to everyone involved."

Yeah, this was the best Dayton show of 2007 from top to bottom. Don't listen to the douche from WO that Ashish got results from.
And we're rolling... - 11.25.2007

Just because I'm not answering wrestling questions this week doesn't mean I have the week off. Certainly not. I will be completing a profile for 411's Wrestling Hall of Fame and reviewing a widly popular early to mid 90s Disney cartoon.

Hopefully I can do well enough with this one that 411 will send me copies of all the early to mid 90s Disney cartoon DVDs to review. Chicks dig guys that review cartoons.

Don't they?
And we're rolling... - 11.14.2007

I went to the OVW show last Saturday night in Cincinnati as a fan and not a reporter. I had heard that Kenny "Starmaker" Bolin was going to make his 3rd ever appearance in Cincinnati in his 20 year career. I was not going to miss it cause I hear Bolin always bring his A Game to the LIVE House shows plus he set at a Picture table and sign autographs all Night Long. I have never met Mr. Bolin so this was my chance. Little did I know what a treat I was in for.

Kenny was set up for autographs at 6:45pm and was being very friendly with all the fans. He was selling pictures and talking with every one who stopped by. He was there all night but during the 6th match of the Night, OX Larue had called Bolin over and had asked him a question. Obviously OX was looking for a little managerial assistance from Bolin for his match against Charles “The Hammer” Evans. Kenny seemed reluctant but agreed to do so. Kenny got on the mike at the request of OX and explained how Cincinnati had become a city of Losers...from the Bearcats to the Buckeyes (who lost to Illinois that day) to the Reds to the Drunken Convicted Felon Bengals! He said he loved Cincinnati and that he was a fan of those teams and wanted to bring winning back to Cincinnati. He agreed to manage OX but promised all in attendance that he would not cheat because he wanted to win back the trust of the Hammer and the fans of Cincinnati had been too good to him in picture sales to let them down. I was a bit skeptical knowing Bolin’s shady past, but

Bolin looked like he would keep his word till the very end of the match. He even pitched his picture table to the fans at ring side telling them to go buy something...the match itself was pretty much going as planned, as OX dominated Hammer for most of it until Hammer made a HUGE Comeback and it looked bad for OX...Hammer was going to suplex OX back in the ring but Bolin tripped Hammer (the crowd favorite) and held his feet down as he hid below the ring! Hammer had been defeated and Bolin cheated after swearing he would not. The fans were pissed to say the least, they were all encouraging Hammer to get Bolin. OX had left the arena and Bolin tried to make his way back to the picture table. OX had him cut off and Bolin was terrified.....the fans were wanting him lynched! Bolin in a desperate move grabbed his own teenage son who was near by and held him in front of OX as a sacrifice to save his own hide. When Hammer looked as if he were coming anyway, Bolin threw his own son to the ground and grabbed a metal chair and tried to fend off Hammer like a lion tamer. When it was obvious that was not going to work and the fans were still wanting his hide, Bolin did the most cowardly thing I have ever seen. He reached right into the crowd and pulled out a small African-American child from his family....looked to be 7 years old at best....Bolin lifted the small child in the air and fended off Hammer with this poor child. Many of the fans family started taking swings at Bolin and trying to get their son back, but Bolin would not give the kid up until Hammer was escorted out of the building by security and Al Snow. Bolin was exhausted and sweating like a pig. He gave the Kid back to his family and swore to them he saved their kids life.....that Hammer was going to kill him if Kenny had not thrown his enormous body over him and saved him! Needless to say, the crowd was not buying it. Bolin got on the mike and said Cincinnati should name him a local hero and declare a Holiday after him for saving that small child's life from the Hammer. He demanded every fan in the building come by the picture table, shake his hand...and buy one more picture to remember this historic night by. out of nearly 200 fan or so. Most of them gave him the finger but about 20 or 30 shook his hand and bought more pictures. I could not believe what I was seeing. Bolin went from the biggest butt kissing baby face I had seen in years to the most hated heel I had ever seen in my life. I am not sure what those 20 fans that shook his hand were thinking...but I was at least glad I saw it live or I would have not believed it.

I had dinner at BW 3s later that night in Florence, Kentucky and who was there signing autographs? Oh yes....Kenny "Starmaker" Bolin and a few other OVW stars. Yes...I did get my autographed pic for only $5. I asked him about what he had done to that kid and he said “Someone needed to step up and save that kid’s life...and I was the one to do it!!”
And we're rolling... - 10.02.2007

I've dedicated my writing time the last couple of days to something that should be posted here at 411 very soon...the one downside here is that it's taken up time I would use to do my usual column. Whoops!

It's just as well, because I've hit one of those periods where nothing seems to go right in life. If I can ever get MySpace to not crash my internet, maybe I'll do an emo MySpace blog about it.
And we're rolling... - 09.11.2007

Heading into Monday night's football games, the hated Randle held an 88-55 lead over me. Problem? No...I still had Carson Palmer, Frank Gore & Larry Fitzgerald to go, while Randle had nobody.

Final score:
Cook 89
Randle 88

Muwhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha~!
And we're rolling... - 07.31.2007

While saving the column this morning, my WordPad froze up. I had to control-alt-delete so I could close the program...once I opened it back up, the column was no longer saved on my disk.

It was almost done too. Considering I've got other things to do today, it's pretty likely that I either won't do the column or it'll be a lot shorter than usual. Argh.
And we're rolling... - 07.11.2007

I must say that I certainly wasn't expecting that many people to know what "4-UP" meant. I guess that's what I get for not being part of the 1.4 rating that ECW gets every week. Seriously, I think every single ECW viewer e-mailed in on this one. :)

We'll get to the answer in next week's column. I'm just impressed that I got as much of a response to one question as I did this week. A negative person would say that indicates how incompetent I am...I say it indicates how dedicated my fanbase is to making me look foolish. And that's not a bad thing...that's a good thing! *big grin*

Next Wednesday I'll be in Chicago at Wrigley Field watching the Cubs take on the Giants. I'll be up on one of the rooftops, so if you're there and see some guy wearing Louisville gear, that's probably me! The one thing I like about my real-life job is that every once in awhile I get to go someplace cool for free. Good times.

In closing, it's too bad that I had to work today and missed my opportunity to partake in the Miss Brooks conference call. Once she heard my sexy Southern accent, it would have been on like neckbone. Oh yes.
And we're rolling... - 06.12.2007

But it's ok because they mostly have nothing to do with wrestling anyway.

Congratulations to my University of Louisville Cardinals for making it to the College World Series for the first time in school history. How cool is that? As a reward we get to play the best team left in the tournament, the Rice Owls. But you know what they say, if you wanna be the best you gotta beat the best. Go Cards!

I liked the ending to The Sopranos. I knew that most people would hate it, but I thought the fading to black was brilliant. I can't go into detail like Dunn does, but it just fit the show. Good stuff.

How bout my girl Ms. Brooks getting to wrestle last week? That was pretty cool. They should do that more often. Abide to my whims, TNA!

Getting days off of work rules. I should do that more often. And believe it or not, I'm actually making some progress on the losing weight thing. Woohoo!
And we're rolling... - 06.06.2007

The Arizona Softball Team. With the exception of maybe one or two girls on that roster, you would do every single one of them. Don't lie!

Christy Hemme dancing to Nine Inch Nails. I can't believe some people are bitching and moaning about how these great videos done by former Tough Enough girl Jessie Ward aren't super serious. I like her style, hopefully she brings some of that to TNA's television product.

AJ sure seemed happy in that video. Not sure why...

The end of the Jimmy Jacobs/Lacey date thingy. Hooray Jimmy!

Who says I can't be positive?
And we're rolling... - 05.24.2007

"His mentioning of Thez in the army reminds me that I found some information regarding wrestlers in WWII that I need to share next week." - Me on 05.16.07

Yeah, I forgot. It happens. At any rate...I recently read the book "Ringside: A History of Professional Wrestling in America" by Scott M. Beekman. Pretty interesting book, it covers a lot of the early history of wrestling that I didn't know that much about. It included some information about wrestlers that served in World War II...the list is below:

Lou Thesz, Steve Casey, Paul Boesch, Gus Sonnenberg, Joe Pazandak, Joe Savoldi

It doesn't speak of any wrestlers dying in combat, but five unnamed wrestlers were killed in a plane crash while flying out to Europe to wrestle at a USO show.

So there's that. In other news, the Reds still suck, my birthday is on Sunday, and the Ask 411 e-mail count is at 27 after I decided what would be in next week's column. That's the lowest it's been in ages, so now would be an excellent time to send in a question that could be answered very quickly.
And we're rolling... - 05.20.2007

It's been awhile since we've heard from Lil' Dwayne...we had a little run-in a year or so ago, but other than that I like the guy. He certainly has passion for the pro wrestling, as you can see from his take on the Judgment Day card...

And that, as Paul Harvey would say, is the rest of the story. I still can't believe Mike Tenay dropped that name on last week's Impact.
And we're rolling... - 04.21.2007

I attended the TNA house show at the Louisville Gardens last night. Since it's been already covered on our wrestling page, I will give you my perspective right here in ye old blog. Because...well, it's Saturday night and I've got nothing better to do while waiting for Cro Cop to kick somebody's head off.

We arrived at the Louisville Gardens just in time to catch most of the opening match pitting Petey Williams & Sonjay Dutt against Eric Young & Robert Roode. This match just didn't click with me for a couple of reasons...the Petey/Sonjay teaming was kinda random, and I still don't understand why Roode keeps teaming with a guy who keeps costing him matches and doing nothing to help his cause. But hey, it still had Ms. Brooks out there, and that's enough to make anything tolerable in my book. Roode got pinned by all three guys, but that would just be the beginning of his problems...

Christopher Daniels defeated Senshi in the next match. It was pretty good, though it took awhile to get used to Daniels working a different style than we'd seen from him in...well, forever. People still wanted to cheer him, which seemed to get under his skin. But what can ya do, the Louisville fans had interesting rooting patterns on this night.

Speaking of interesting rooting patterns, LAX got lots of cheers and worked as babyfaces as they defeated the Naturals. Good to know that losing the tag team titles didn't hurt their popularity...even though technically they're heels. They worked babyface here though, and signed autographs during intermission. So yeah, I don't know what's up with that, but they were quite over. Of course, I was cheering for them, but as a by gawd Internet Rasslin Journalist, I'm allowed to cheer for bad guys.

Jim Cornette then came out to cut his promo and bring out Eric Young. Eventually Robert Roode & Ms. Brooks came out to get him to tell them who his "friend" is...and JT will be pissed at me because I'm spoiling something on next week's Impact, but it's Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett hit Roode with a nice guitar shot and got a good reaction. I must say I'm surprised that Jarrett's gotten over as well as he has given that he was pretty much despised by everybody before he left. I think it's the fact that he's bringing back his old school mullet. Everybody loves a mullet. We also love guitars that don't quite break on the guy's head.

And Ms. Brooks got spanked...it wasn't quite what it was in my dreams, but Eric Young usually isn't involved in my dreams.

We got to see the debut of the Bashams in TNA, as Doug Basham lost to Rhino in a Derby City Streetfight. You could tell it was a Derby City Streetfight because a construction cone and a tennis racket were used. The downside of this match was when they went out into the crowd and nobody could see what they were doing because the lighting in the building sucked and the spotlight operator seemed to be celebrating 4:20 Day.

Intermission time! I'll take this opportunity to say that TNA sells some pretty awesome t-shirts.

After the intermisison, Chris Harris & Gail Kim beat James Storm & Jackie Moore. I appreciated them combining the previously scheduled Harris/Storm & Gail/Jackie matches into one. I also appreciated Gail's ring attire. Harris gets bonus points for figuring out he could take off his eye patch and see things better towards the end of the match.

Samoa Joe beat AJ Styles in a really fun match that got my nod for match of the night. Not quite up there with their singles match on a PPV in late 2005 that I can't remember the name of, but it was pretty solid. Both guys were pretty over, but Styles did get booed during the match because...well, he was against Joe.

And in the main event, Christian Cage beat Kurt Angle with lots of help from Styles. They tried to beat Angle down some after the match, but Abyss came out and made the save despite being all stitched up from his beatdown on Impact. The crowd was pretty split here, I'm not sure if it was due to Christian or the way Angle's kinda been flip flopping between face and heel on television lately. But both guys did have their fans.

All in all, it was a pretty fun time. I would suggest that they have more lighting the next time they come to the Gardens, because the one light under the huge scoreboard wasn't really cutting it. Other than that, I have no real complaints. I don't know if TNA will have a PPV in Louisville, but it was a pretty good crowd for their first time there. They've still got some work to do before they'll be able to fill the place up, but it could happen.

See ya Wednesday!

EDIT: Wow, Cro Cop got his head kicked off instead. See, this is what happens when you don't pre-determine these things, you end up with all your marketable guys losing.
And we're rolling... - 03.14.2007

Tuesday evening was lots of fun for the whole family...my mom's car broke down, so I had to go pick her up. Then me and my dad had to take that car over to the shop, which wasn't very easy considering it was broken down. So that pretty much took up my whole night.

You know, I used to dismiss the "Ask 411 curse" as mere balderdash, but now I'm starting to wonder if there's something to it...mostly because my personal life has gone into the toilet since I agreed to do the column, which has led to my presence here shrinking. With any luck, I'll be back here next week.

Until then, GO CARDS!
And we're rolling... - 12.19.2006

Due to my trip to Indianapolis to watch the Bengals lose to the Colts, family gatherings, work, and massive drinking, I am unable to post an edition of Ask 411 Wrestling this week. The column will be back next week, and you can continue to send your questions to scook411@hotmail.com.

I have a really cool story about the trip, and I might post it here or talk about it in the news column this week. Again, my apologies for not having an Ask 411 this week, but it will be back just in time for the deadtime between Christmas and New Year's.
And we're rolling... - 12.16.2006
