And we're rolling... - 04.06.2006

This is pasted from an email I sent my friends. But since I have never added a blog, this is the perfect way to start. It's about the most recent South Park episode:

I just got done watching the Family Guy South Park. I enjoyed it, but when I try to think about all the underlying themes, connections, and paradoxes, my brain starts to hurt.

In the end, it turns out to be a camoflouged attack on Comedy Central for pulling the Tom Cruise episode. And throughout the show, they take their shots at Family Guy, saying how their jokes are never relavent to the plot and the writing isn't that great etc. etc.

I get the point. The episode is about free speech. It was a good way to attack Comedy Central for pussing out and pulling the Cruise episode so their revenue from the MI 3 commercials doesn't get fucked with. But once again, it just really wasn't that funny.

They use Family Guy to get their point across about what Comedy Central did. But they also take shots at Family Guy's humor and their writing. This seems ironic.

I watch adult cartoons to laugh. The Simps were the originators, the Critic and SP followed, and then Family Guy. I don't typically watch adult cartoons to learn daily lessons on worldly topics.

South Park used to bring the funny. It was morris and it usually had a point. Now, it just seems that it's ALL about the point. How many of the recent episodes were focused on religion? Without researching, I'd say 5 of the last 6. And which ones were funny? The original Scientology one, and the return of Chef.

I just wish they would go back to writing a message AROUND the comedy instead of the other way around. The irony in all this is they ripped on Family Guy for doing the same jokes, when this South Park episode was completely re-stocked with ALL their same jokes.

1) Randy being crazy and overly extreme.

2) Garrison talking about sex to the children.

3) Cartman pretending to do something good, but having an evil agenda.

4) The people of South Park voting to do something retarded.

5) Kyle and Cartman doing battle.

Maybe this is Matt and Trey's way of being intentionally ironic, I don't know.

Maybe they're the smartest 2 guys in the world.

But the show still isn't consistently funny. And it used to be.
