– During a post-Survivor Series edition of The Wrestling Observer Radio (via WrestlingInc.com), Dave Meltzer had an update on WWE’s future plans for Goldberg following his defeat of Brock Lesnar in under two minutes for the main event of last night’s PPV. According to Meltzer, the plan is for Goldberg and Lesnar to have another rematch later down the line. Additionally, Meltzer said that Lesnar actually pushed for a prolonged program with Goldberg and saw money in an extended feud. It was apparently Lesnar who did not want to end the program with just one match, and Vince McMahon agreed with him. Also, Meltzer claimed the deal to have Goldberg remain in WWE for a while was made within the past week.

Meltzer claimed the match was short not because of Goldberg’s reported injury, but to keep Goldberg over after he agreed to stay in WWE for now. WWE officials made the decision to have a short match similar to the type of matches in WCW that got Goldberg over in the first place. However, many fans were disappointed with how the main event turned out as the headliner for the Survivor Series PPV and felt having Goldberg defeat Lesnar in such short fashion hurt the former UFC and WWE champion as a result.

Previously, Goldberg was seeing the Survivor Series match as a one-time deal when speaking to WWE Hall of Famer Booker T on his podcast last month. Goldberg had stated: “I’m treating it as [a one-shot deal], man. That’s what they offered. That’s what I accepted. If they wanted more, they would have offered more. So I took the offer when it came to a mutual decision, which I believe was mutually positive for everybody involved. Dude, I treat it was such. I have a one-match contract and I’m taking it like the last match of my career. And the minute after the match is over, I won’t bask in it. I’ll think about what’s next. If it’s anything else in the wrestling world, I’ll consider that. If not, hey, man, it’s not like I’ve been looking for something to do the last 12 years by any means.”
