Contemplating CHIKARA 6.06.09: Careless Talk

June 6, 2009 | Posted by Kevin Ford

Hello everyone, and welcome once again to Contemplating CHIKARA! Not a whole lot has happened in the way of news this week, but by God am I going to report what very little I have. That’s what she said. And now, off we go!

Contemplating CHIKARA: What’s coming?

The next couple of months are kind of slow for CHIKARA. So what am I, the man who’s job it is to report all the happenings in CHIKARA, to do? Well, I’ll tell you.

For a few weeks (maybe a month) now, people have requested that I do a run through of Who’s Who on the CHIKARA roster. That’s exactly what I am going to do. In three separate columns I will cover 1) The Tecnicos, 2) The Rudos, and 3) Special Guests and Staff. Of course I’ll also discuss whatever matches and Young Lions Cup participants are announced during these weeks too, but the focus will be covering the roster in depth so you can better understand the characters.

Outside of that, I’m not sure what else to do. This is where you guys come in. Do you have any suggestions? Leave them in the comments or email me! This is for you guys, so getting your input would be awesome. Don’t be shy know, this is your chance to share your ideas.

Incoherence recruits Hydra?!

That’s what the situation appears to be. The above video appeared Wednesday night on CHIKARA’s podcast. Of course, they are Incoherence, so we have absolutely no clue what they said, but we can only assume that Hydra has joined forces with Hallowicked and Frightmare in their quest for revenge on the Order of the Neo-Solar Temple.

It’s kind of scary how much sense this makes. Hydra matches the color scheme. Hydra too is incoherent. Hydra has had his issues with The Order in the past, and knows Ultramantis Black more than most any other Tecnico on the roster. Hydra has bested Ultramantis in both tag and singles competition in the recent past. At “Aniversario Yang”, Hydra was verbally berated by Tim Donst after they lost to 2.0 in a tag match, seemingly freeing Hydra up from his ties to Donst. Now Hydra has moved on in order to fight the good fight!

The battle between good and evil, Incoherence and The Order of the Neo-Solar Temple, is sure to be one of the more interesting feuds in CHIKARA, and I for one am looking forward to watching it unravel.

Before Incoherence goes after The Temple, their first test will be going against one of the more successful stables in CHIKARA, The UnStable (Vin Gerard, STIGMA, & Colin Delaney), at the July CHIKARA event “Never Kneel At The Altar Of Conformity”. The UnStable, as a trio, has been extremely successful in CHIKARA winning the majority of their matches together. The UnStable can be a big hurdle for Incoherence to tackle, but if Incoherence successfully thwarts the dastardy Rudos, it will be a great start for them. Will the green and black attack be able to best the most hated stable in CHIKARA, or will the more established UnStable halt their momentum before it even starts?

Young Lions Cup VII Participants Announced!

First announced, not surprisingly, is the one and only Create-A-Wrestler. Since CAW’s debut, at the Young Lions Cup, he has debuted a new fan created character. This year will be no different, as his brand spanking new persona will debut in Easton. In years past we’ve seen CAW portray Moscow, The Communist Bovine and Ultimo Breakfast, The Freshly Squeezed Warrior (wouldn’t that be Orange Cassidy?) Although CAW has failed in the past two attempts to win the Young Lions Cup tournament, he has vastly improved in the past year, and looks to continue his trail of improvement by taking the coveted Young Lions Cup come August. The question is, what or who will Create-A-Wrestler be portraying?

A fan favorite, Soldier Ant joins the Young Lions Cup field. Soldier Ant competed in the 2007 Young Lions Cup, losing to Rhett Titus in the first round. Soldier Ant also has greatly improved since then, going far in the 2008 King of Trios tournament, winning the 2008 Tag World Grand Prix with Fire Ant, and beating Team F.I.S.T. in a Masks vs. Hair match last month, which is arguably the most important match of his career. Soldier’s partner, Fire Ant, won the Young Lions Cup tournament last year, and Soldier Ant would love nothing more than to follow in the footsteps of his hormiga brethren. Soldier Ant most certainly has the talent to get the job done, but will the 23 other participants allow that to happen?

Chicago independent favorite Trik Davis is the third participant announced for the Young Lions Cup. Trik was in both the Young Lions Cup and Tag World Grand Prix in 2005, but failed to make it past the first round in both tournaments. He also appeared in a trios match with Helios and Mike Quackenbush, squaring off against the Osirian Portal and Shayne Hawke in late 2007. Trik has made a name for himself in the Midwest, even becoming the IWA:MS Heavyweight Champion. Trik looks to add another title to his tenure in a different region of the U.S. Will Trik be able to get the job done?

Icarus joins Relevos Atomicos at Dragon Gate USA’s Philadelphia debut!

The man that every CHIKARA fan loves to hate, Icarus, has joined CHIKARA’s showcase Relevos Atomicos match at the DGUSA debut in Philadelphia. Icarus is one of the three remaining members of the first graduating class of the CHIKARA Wrestle Factory still on the roster. He’s competed in every single Tag World Grand Prix, King of Trios, La Loteria Letal (there’s only be one, but still), and four of the five Torneo Ciberneticos, winning the 2006 version. He’s also been one half of the Campeonatos de Parejas and one-third of this years King of Trios. He and Gran Akuma (who is also on the Rudos team) are the longest raining tandem in CHIKARA today. Icarus is a picture perfect representative of CHIKARA, and I am sure he is more than happy to once again be opposing The Colony, who shaved him bald just a short 13 days ago. With F.I.S.T. and The Colony being across from each other once again, this one just got a lot more interesting.

Pod-Per-View #4 Announced!

Admist the myriad of news last week, I forgot to mention that CHIKARA’s Fourth Pod-Per-View, “The Quest For Peace”, will be available at the end of June! The price will be around $3 and will feature action from shows in Delaware that featured many of CHIKARA’s talent. More details and news regarding the podcast will be posted as it becomes available.

YouTube Fun!

Here we have the 164th edition of the CHIKARA Podcast-A-Go-Go. Featured is the “Armdrags to Riches” show. You can read my review of that show here. The Podcast features clips from the Relevos Atomicos and Helios vs. Ultramantis Black.

Okay, so this is a rather old video, but I just found it and really dug it. It’s a recap of CHIKARA in 2008, done by PCN Thomas. Enjoy!

Alright, that’s enough for this week. Make sure to come back next week when I’ll run down the Tecnicos of CHIKARA. In addition, check out my CHIKARA DVD reviews here on 411 Mania. The first three discs of CHIKARA’s Best of 2008 have been covered the past three days, and tomorrow covers the fourth and final disc.

Thanks so much everyone for reading, and I’ll see you in seven!
