The 411 Wrestling Top 5 6.17.09: Week 27 – Funniest Moments
Posted by Michael Bauer on 06.17.2009

Hello everyone and welcome to 411 Wrestling's Top 5 List. What we are going to is take a topic each week and all the writers here on 411 wrestling will have the ability to give us their Top 5 on said topic, plus up to three honorable mentions. At the end, based on where all these matches rank on people's list, we will create the 411 Wrestling Top 5 list. The scoring is very similar to the Wrestler of the Week as it looks like this:

#1 Choice – 5 points
#2 Choice – 4 points
#3 choice – 3 points
#4 Choice – 2 points
#5 Choice – 1 point
Honorable Mentions will break ties, but get no points.

Also, in the case of a tie, the most votes win, regardless of where it is listed in the individual Top 5. I will also use this rule in the event that one item is mentioned more often, but is one point behind. For example, one second place vote and two Honorable Mentions will defeat simply one first place vote.

So, on to this week's topic…

THE TOP 5 FUNNIEST MOMENTS

Wrestling is not just a bucnh of guys and girls fighting in a ring. It is all about entertainment. So this week, we look at our Funniest Moments fom the world of wrestling.

So what did our group of writers select? Let's find out…

Shawn S. Lealos

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Pretty much anything with Delirious, whether it is a promo or a wrestling match. The guy is gold.

Just about every promo with Edge & Christian as a tag team. They were one of the most entertaining things going at the time.

5. Shockmaster - This was never meant to be funny as Fred Ottman (Tugboat) was supposed to break through a wall and show himself to be the new partner of Sting and Davey Boy Smith. Instead, he fell over his own feet and went face first into the ground. Listen close and you will hear Davey Boy exclaim that the Shockmaster "fell on his fucking arse." I guess some things are just funny for different reasons.

4. Triple H and Shawn Michaels imitates Vince and Shane McMahan - It may not be "cool" to get excited about the newer DX antics, but I can't watch Shawn Michaels dance around like Shane McMahan without laughing my ass off. Ignore all the penis innuendos and just watch the imitations and the dancing. Brilliance.

3. Chris Jericho, The Man of 1004 holds - I loved Chris Jericho when he made his heal turn in WCW. When he fought Dean Malenko, the Man of 1000 Holds, and began to prove that he had more holds by yelling out the hold number he was currently using mid match (usually an armbar) it cracked me up. And who can forget it all started when he stood in the ring and read from a list of holds (with armbar listed numerous times). I still have a friend who yells "MOVE 751" or something similar when he does something. Just on a final note, I have one word for you - Ralphus.

2. This is Your Life Rock - The Rock was involved in more laugh out loud moments in wrestling than any other superstar but when he was the brunt of the joke at the hands of Mick Foley, it was a brilliant pairing. There is not much to say about this that you don't already know. Mick Foley and The Rock were the perfect comedy duo.

1. DX's parody of the Nation of Domination - This is one of the best parodies I have ever seen. The Road Dog (D-Lo Brown) standing on the turnbuckles like a bobble head while occasionally coming in to interrupt Triple H (The Rock) - "The Rock was baking! Brother was baking!" "You hear that, the brother smacks himself down!" Then you got X-Pac in black face and a fat suit. "Hey, hey, hey Rock!" Often imitated, this is how you really pull off a parody.

Julian Bond

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Santino insulting singer Akon…and then rapping - This is a new classic. Santino has done so many random and funny things throughout the last year, but his insults to the singer Akon and then proceeding to randomly rap was priceless. From mispronouncing Akon's name with "Akorn" and casually quoting his songs ("I'm noticing you…noticing me") to horribly attempting to rap still makes my stomach hurt from laughter.

The Rock doing "Billy Praying To God" - At this point I knew that the Rock had a good sense of humor, but I didn't know how insanely funny he was on the mic until he did a pretty random take of his opponent Billy Gunn begging to God for The Rock not to kick his ass.

The Shockmaster…nuff' said. - This honestly is only a Honorable Mention instead of in my Top 5 simply because I was the last to the party with just watching it recently on my WWE "Greatest Stars of the 90s" DVD in the ‘Stone Cold Tribute to The Shockmaster' extra. Words really can't give this justice…please YouTube this NOW if you haven't seen it.

5."The 5 Second Pose" by Edge & Christian - I really couldn't just name one specific moment for this because almost every single solitary time that the infamous tag team of Edge and Christian heckled the living crap of a city with their awesome "cheap heat" antics (i.e. wearing a town's rival sports team jersey while talking smack about the home team) and then proceeded to give the crowd a complementary "5 Second Pose", in which the duo goofily stood still in various poses, was awesome every time out. From wearing silly huge hats to dressing as "Fat Elvises", E&C's poses were always a highlight of every WWF show back in the day.

4.Stone Cold and Kurt Angle's "friendly competition" - Likewise with above, I just can't pick one moment from this. During the summer of 2001, Stone Cold and Angle were honestly the sole reason for me to tune in. To take the beer-guzzling, take no prisoners, ass-kicking bad ass Steve Austin and pair him up with milk-drinking, straight-laced, often corny goofball Kurt Angle was pure genius. And the funniest part of the whole thing was that they were both really fighting for the "affection" of Vince McMahon. From dueling singing that included a rendition of "Cumbaya" from Austin and a kazoo melody from Angle to a "hugging contest" that had the two actually fight to give McMahon hugs in the ring (no kidding), it made for one of the best summers I've even had of watching wrestling.

3.The Rock insulting his Armageddon opponents - If we had a "Top 15" instead of just 5, I honestly would probably fill it up with moments just from the Rock cause the man is pure comedic gold. This to me is the funniest of ALL of the stuff that he's graced us with throughout the years. In an interview done in a preview to his Hell In A Cell at that year's Armageddon PPV, he proceeded not just to do his usual insults but he also did some dead-on impressions of every single one of his opponents…for the most part. From the "evil eye-rolling" of the Undertaker to the "random redneck-ness and Backstreet Boys listening" of Stone Cold to the "milk-drinking goody two-shoes" attitude of Kurt Angle to the verbal mannerisms of the "Gaaaaaaaaaaame" Triple H to perhaps the funniest insult of them all with the former super-face, dancing dude Rikishi who just turned heel and was revealed to be the one who "ran over" Stone Cold in a storyline. In a hilarious blank-stare face with deep dumb-sounding monotone voice, the Rock insulted Rikishi for his actions and kind of made fun of the pretty ridiculous storyline: "I did it for the Rock…I did it for the people…I did it for…shut your mouth thong-wearing fatty"….funny shit here.

2.DX impersonating the Nation - Next to the Rock, DX has also always been known to be one of the best to do some of the funniest insulting intimations of other wrestlers. Despite their other hilarious jabs including the "Corporation" stable and a crazed Vince and Shane McMahon (especially with Shawn Michaels' funny-as-hell "Shane Dance"), their take on the heel group The Nation of Domination was definitely their best. Not only did the DX guys do some gut-busting impressions, they also decided to mockingly dress up as each member of The Nation. Where do I begin….Billy Gunn as a bootleg pimp-looking Godfather, X-Pac as a slow talking "Fat Albert" looking Mark (aka Mizark) Henry, Road Dogg as the always interrupting ("The Rock was bakin…Brotha was bakin!!"), head-seizuring B-Lo also known as D-Lo Brown, the random ass kid with a big fake nose that almost fooled us all as Owen Hart ("I am NOT A NUGGET…I am a BLACK HART dammit…a winner…a SOLE SURVIVOR!!"), and of course Triple H and his fake raise eyebrow as The Crock aka The Rock. Funny as hell, perfect for storyline at time, and one of the funniest things I've ever seen on my TV screen.

1.Chris Jericho's "Goldberg Entrance" - Just plain classic. Not too complicated. Not too obvious. Just pure comedic gold. When I was watching Goldberg back in the day, I admit that I marked out every time the man did his unique backstage entrance, in which the cameras followed him from his dressing room through the hallways up the way to the ring along with his security (…that….I never really understood!!). It seemed silly, but came off somehow as being super bad-ass. But I always thought "What If?" with imaging if someone doing the same exact entrance but instead getting lost backstage…since you know…it's like a new sometimes unfamiliar arena for wrestlers in their wide travels. So with this random-ass thought, I witnessed Jericho successfully brining this to life during one random episode of Nitro. Playing off like an ode to the classic parody film "This Is Spinal Tap", Jericho was poking fun at Goldberg by having the camera and his fat-ass missing-tooth assistant Ralphus (along with another random dude with a paper stated "Jericho Holic Ninja taped on his chest!!!!) following him like Berg's security guards to the ring…except for the fact that Jericho got lost backstage and then got locked out of the arena outside! No other words can really give this justice. Jericho just plain f'n rocks.

Aaron Hubbard

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Any Colt Cabana vs. Delirious Match - You can't not laugh watching these two wrestle. However, trying to point out any particular moment in any particular match is unfair. These are just two masters of comedy.

The Rock Disses the nWo - CHICO! Razor Ramon *Pose*. Big Daddy Cool Diesel! *WUMP WUMP* Rock is an amazing promo man, and this is the Holy Grail of Rock promos.

Hogan No Sells Tombstone, Scares Paul Bearer Out of His Mind This was at the 1991 Survivor Series, after Hogan completely buries the Tombstone Piledriver by standing up and hulking up right after it. Paul Bearer's reaction is absolutely priceless.

5.Team 3D's Funeral - TNA's attempts at humor usually fail spectacularly. However, THIS skit was absolutely priceless. America's Most Wanted were their usual awesome selves (especially Storm), but Double J, Abyss and James Mitchell, and especially Team Canada stole the show. Harris: "We did it for the money!" Team Canada: "*Raising Hockey Sticks* MONEY!" JJ: "*Sniff* For the money." Abyss: "RWAAAAARRRRR!" James Mitchell: "HAHAHAHAHAHA!" Glorious.

4. Man of 1004 Holds - I don't know if words can really do this promo justice. Jericho was GOLD as the obnoxious heel in WCW. While I see that Jericho getting lost doing Goldberg's entrance is getting a ton of love, this promo on Dean Malenko is my favorite. If you haven't seen this, go see it now, because you will be laughing afterwards. ARMBAR!

3.Eddie Guerrero's Last Match -Is it a sentimental pick? Maybe, but I was laughing loudly when I saw it the first time. Guerrero's creative cheating tactics always brought a smile to my face, and after he abandoned them for a while during his feud with Rey Mysterio, I was so glad to see him making a fool of Ken Kennedy. The evil grin that Eddie had as soon as Charles Robinson was down is the image that comes to mind when I think about Eddie cheating. Little Naitch and Kennedy also played their roles very well here.

2.Soldier Ant Protects His Fellow Ants From Chuck Taylor's Grenade - Words do this no justice.

1.Kane, Hogan & the Rock - I have never laughed so hard at a promo. Ever. Kane is great as a monster heel, but I miss his expert comedic timing and more fun loving side of 2002. This was BRILLIANT.

Larry Csonka:

CHRIS JERICHO: MAN OF 1004 HOLDS - Arm Bar, Saskatchewan Arm Bar, Three Handled Moss Covered Family Credenza, Arm Bar….

DISCO WANTS IN THE NWO, MOCKS KONNAN'S MUSIC VIDEO - Disco Inferno desperately wanted into the nWo, and during his attempt, he hit gold by mocking Konnan's music video. "Oil of Olay all day every day!" Indeed Disco, indeed…

Kane, Hogan and the Rock - Kane was excellent here, and Rock and Hogan's reactions were great. KANE-A-NITES~!

5. Team 3D's Funeral - I agree with Hubbard, TNA often tries to do "WWE STYLE SEGMENTS" that they mean to be funny, but often they just suck. But the one segment that stands out from the rest is the Team 3D funeral. Gail Kim as the hot stuck up bitch, Storm in the beginning of the constant beer drinking persona, Team Canada being awesome, and one of the few times a knock at WWE was funny, with the guest book at the end. Greatness.

4. Soldier Ant Protects His Fellow Ants From Chuck Taylor's Grenade - I love good wackiness. I love CHIKARA. Besides fun characters and good wrestling, I always expect a wacky helping of WACKY SHIT from the company. Watching asshole Chuck Taylor pull out an invisible grenade and then seeing a man in an ANT costume clear the ring and cover the "grenade" seems stupid as hell, but in CHIKARA it just works. God bless those wacky bastards.

3. The Alliance Serenades Steve Austin/The Milk Man Cometh - The Alliance Era overall was a disappointment for me as they had a license to pint money and blew it, but it did bring us one of the best comedy moments I can remember. Stephanie McMahon and the Alliance singing a HORRIBLY funny rendition of Wind Beneath My Ring to Steve Austin is funny enough on its own, but then, then the Milk Man came. Kurt Angle, mocking the classic Austin beer bath drove to the ring in a milk truck, threw milk cartons at the Alliance, Shawn Stasicak ran into the truck like a fool and then Angle gave them a milk bath. I laughed for a long time at that one, good times, good times…

2. The Shockmaster - The Shockmaster was comedy that wasn't supposed to be. He was supposed to be bad ass and serious, but so much went wrong. They never had a costume so they threw a Star Wars Mask and some shit from the trashcan together and figured that would work. He makes his debut, falls on his face and you can here Davey Boy Smith laughing and talking shit about it. A HUGE blunder and honestly, it is stuck in wrestling history as one of the unintentionally funniest moments ever.

1. DX's Parody of the Nation of Domination - I didn't like the other parodies after this nearly as much, because they struck gold here. DX and Jason Sensation doing their parody of DX. HHH as the Rock, Sensation as Owen, X-Pac as Mark Henry (How Do your pecs wrap around your back?) Road Dogg as D Lo and Billy the Godfather. I laughed so hard when I first saw it, and actually had a ".WAV" file of it on my PC for the longest time, thanks to the WWF AOL Chat room. Comedy certainly has its place in wrestling, especially when it is well done. Classic lines galore here, and I wish that something could match this on WWE TV, but I won't hold my breath.

Michael Bauer

El Generico and Orisian Portal dance off - Personal favorite. Going from a test of strength attempt into a dance off, with El Generico going over the edge by channeling Michael Jackson. Just priceless.

Just About Any RoH Colt Cabana Match - Scotty Goldman is nothing. Colt Cabana is just hilarious.

Delirious meets Quackenbush - Nothing better than a crazy man bouncing on the ropes screaming "Quack Quack!" over and over again.

5. Shawn Michaels and Triple H need tickets - So awesome that they needed to do this over and over until Shawn could keep a straight face. Seeing Michaels talk Cryme Time limgo and Triple H just looking at him like WTF! Simply put, it was priceless.

4. Mick Foley gives Rock a party of a Lifetime - Mick Foley was gold in Rock N' Sock, especially when he threw The Rock a birthday party, bringin in guests from his past, cakes, gifts, and the whole works. I sear, I have no clue how those two kept a straight face. It is so great, it had to be broken into two parts!

3. It.. it… it… Doesn't Matter!! - If I have to pick one Rock promo above all else, I will take him against the Dudley Boys. I wish I could find video of this, but here are the words:

Rock: Who are you two jabronis?

Buh Buh: You should know by now we are the Du..d..d…d…

Rock: It… it… it… Doesn't Matter….!!!

2. Austin and Angle play a guitar - This was just too much. Austin sucks up to Vince, Angle tries to, and comedy ensues. Kurt singing "Jimmy Cracked Corn" had me dying of laughter.

1. DX Parodies the Nation - This was by far the funniest moment of the Attitude Era. HHH coming out with a belt with tape on it, tells us we should have smelled his shit. Jason Sensation was awesome as Owen and really stole the show. D-X could never match this greatness with future shots.

Too much attitude era stuff. You guys missed some of the funny moments from the early 90's.

The Mountie spending a night in prison is one of my all-time favorite segments ever.

this list is missing the greatest HBK line of all time

"SEE, I JUST KICKED STAN"

Posted By: dantvman (Guest)  on June 16, 2009 at 11:14 PM

A couple other funny bits not mention:

-Kurt Angle's "interview" with the Rock prior to his match which was nothing but a collection of Rock interviews. It's worth it just for Angle's reactiona and the constantly changing size of the Rock's sideburns. Man, I miss funny Angle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0piyaanzrZo

-How about when Chris Jericho went to Washington D.C. to find a by-law that would give him his title back after Malenko dressed up as Cyclope and fooled him.

BADGES? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' BADGES!

Also, does Dennis Stamp jumping on a trampoline in his underwear count? I think it should.

I watched this about 5 minutes ago, with no knowledge it would be mentioned tonight. Classic moment though

funniest moments... hmmmmm...

how about TNA imitating what is wrong with WWE and WCW? or that their always mucking good things up?

or

WWE always shoving the rehashed crap they do year in and year out?

Where we the "Rock Concerts"???? 2003 Rock was the funniest bastard ever!
I am disappointed!

Bret: Shawn Michaels
HBK:Yes...Bret Hart.

1004 holds is my top pick. Seriously, how do you get funnier stuff than is. Jericho reading from his "Santa like" list all they way to commercial break and then still reading it when they come back. CLASSIC!!

5) "SEE! I JUST KICKED STAN!"
4) ARMBAR!
3) Shockmaster
2) DX as The Nation
1) ARMBAR!

Posted By: CJ (Guest)  on June 17, 2009 at 12:18 AM

1) Kevin Nash tearing his quad while trying to run (bgaah!!)

2) Vince tearing BOTH of his quads while trying to get into the ring, then bitching at the wrestlers who were within each shot of him.

3) E&C playing Benoit's theme on Kazoo, complete with lyrics, "Chris Benoit is here.. and he's really mad!"

4) That retarded kid that tried to interfere in one of Michael's matches.

5) Warrior "Ultimate Warrior" Warrior puking (finally!) after a pimp put a curse on him / delivering a rambling 12 minute speech during his debut on Nitro through a trap door which caused Davey Boy Smith to injure his back, become addicted to pain killers, and die.

Posted By: Guest#1675 (Guest)  on June 17, 2009 at 12:19 AM

Oh i forgot his best move he mentioned..besides armbar...Hold 3 - The Moss Covered Three Handled Family Gredunzel!

Posted By: What is it Dorn? (Guest)  on June 17, 2009 at 12:22 AM

Rock and the Hurricane segments. Rock Concert 1 and 2. Rock's heel promos from 2003.

Hell, anything the Rock said or did in 2003 as a heel was off the charts awesome.

And I almost forgot, Edge and Christian's 5-second poses, Kurt Angle's heel promos from 2000 to 2001 were classic moments that still crack me up.

Posted By: nastrodamus (Guest)  on June 17, 2009 at 12:24 AM

Big Show getting dragged on the coffin that was connected to the Big Boss Man's car....that was the funniest segment ever.

Posted By: what aboot (Guest)  on June 17, 2009 at 12:26 AM

E&C did a 7 second pose.... not 5.

Heres The Rock N Sock Connection vs Dudley Boyz match: It it it doesnt matter! Lmao http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpLDYXM_uM4

Posted By: DJ (Guest)  on June 17, 2009 at 12:28 AM

Long live the 5 second pose. We were truly blessed at a house show in Kansas City. Because our home teams suck so bad E&C gave us a full 7 second pose! I was laughing so hard I pissed myself (usually I don't need an excuse).

Posted By: Guest#6869 (Guest)  on June 17, 2009 at 12:30 AM

the hurricane and the rock segments back in 2003 were pretty funny

Posted By: brian (Guest)  on June 17, 2009 at 12:35 AM

Santino has been pretty funny, especially in his fued with Austin. (the throwaway line about who was coming to philadelphia still kills me)
Also, on the first ric flair dvd set there is a bonus promo from Harley Race putting a bounty on Flairs head. during the promo he momentarily forgets who he is going to mention next. the look on his face as he momentarily blanks is Absolute GOLD. he seems to panic and SCREAMS the name. I still joke about this with friends....years later.

" I loved Chris Jericho when he made his heal turn in WCW."

Really, Lealos? Jericho was a doctor?

Bad use of homonyms aside, a lot of really funny stuff here.

I always liked Robot Takada. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V68c3-0j6RU

Gotta go with shawn kicking stan in the face.

Better than that though would be him going down the corridor and kicking everyone he see's in the face as he's in a rage! makes me laugh everytime i see it!

A very underrated segment, Big Show & Carlito, Carlito's Cabana, 2005:

Big Show: I didn't come here to be your second banana

Carlito: No bananas here. Apples!

What about Jericho doing the intros for the Cruiserweight Battle Royal? ARMBAR is easily number one, but the intros are a close second.

Posted By: mossby (Guest)  on June 17, 2009 at 01:04 AM

Honorable Mention: Santino and the Honkameter, too early to put on the top 5!

5. Harlem Heat promo, Booker T coins the classic, "Hogan, we coming for you N***A!

4. Colt Cabana VS. Jimmy Jacobs VS. Christopher Daniels, during the whole Colt had sex with Lacey angle, great match, extremely funny moments, hell that whole angle takes the cake!

3. Kaientai, "We are Evil!"

2. GTV, Val Venus and Big Show take a piss, Val takes a look at Show, laughs and states "And they call you the Big Show!"

1. Man of 1004 holds

Posted By: Kurruption (Guest)  on June 17, 2009 at 01:11 AM

Triple H: And when it comes to the Rock and the ladies...and the Rock hits...Rock Bottom. He has no choice...but to lay the smack down on himself!!!!!

Classic!!!! Still laugh myself to tears to this day

Posted By: Guest#5716 (Guest)  on June 17, 2009 at 01:11 AM

5. Eugene as GM for 1 show - (Ric Flair in the musical chairs, Eugene makes super serious HHH bounce up and down with him in a promo). Eugene was funny at one time, then of course people got bored of him.
4. When Rock made Coach do the Charleston.
3. When Jericho told Regal that he "pissed" in his tea. Lawler: "He was besmirched!"
2. John Cena goes in the Divas locker room. I don't really remember what he said, but this was great.
1. (tie)Almost any moment with Jericho and Christian together...or Jericho and Rock.
Bonus for the ROH guys: Daniels busting out the Robot after Jack Evans moves.

Sadly I haven't seen this mentioned...

"Jericho receives a letter from Ted Turner!"

From Jericho mispronouncing Schivone's name, to Schivone's facial expressions, to Jericho being Jericho this one has "1004 Hold" promo licked, IMO.

Jericho: "Someone's been messing with my letter from Ted Turner!! ::Sobs::"

Schivone: "It's okay, this is your time"

Just a fantastic promo.
:D

Where is Norman Smiley and his hardcore matches on this countdown??

Posted By: JohnnyPark360 (Guest)  on June 17, 2009 at 01:42 AM

Wow, I'd have to think back through my 20 years of watching wrestling to make a definitive list.

A few of my favorites that are missing:
- Shawn Michaels dressing up as Hogan
- All the Y2J and Ken Shamrock moments, including Warrior Fink and "I killed Kenny!"
- I can't believe everyone's forgotten the predecessor to the DX Nation skit: nWo parodies the Four Horsemen. That was classic, too

And I know I'm crazy, but I personally found Vince doing surgery on JR hilarious at the time. I couldn't stop laughing!

Mad Mikey from the NWA TNA days deserves at least an honorable mention. Too bad he was not around long enough with that gimmick.

Posted By: JP (Guest)  on June 17, 2009 at 01:52 AM

My 5 Funniest Moments

Honorable Mention - Shawn Drops the Ball - One of the better Jason Sensation bits where he played HBK "Shawn...you....you dropped the ball again."

5. The Eugene Challenge - When he flipped Angle's "What yo name where u from?" back on him, Kurt Angle's reaction was priceless.

4. Cena & The Boogeyman - From one of the UK shows, when Cena open the door to Boogeyman reciting "London Bridge", Cena's silent facial expressions were some of the funniest I had ever seen.

3. Man of 1004 Holds - The entire gimmick had me laughing my ass off. Jericho = entertainment

2. McMahon 3:16 - He just pissed his pants. Had me almost rolling on the floor.

1. DX impersonates the Nation - Back when HHH wasn't the pariah he is today. People forget how talented he really is as a performer when they rip him a new one for marry Steph and burying younger wrestlers. This was some funny shit, even Billy Gunn was funny, and thats saying something. West siiiiiiiide!!

"SEE, I JUST KICKED STAN"

That will ALWAYS be my number one pick. I never laughed so much watching that. Shawn Michaels superkicking everyone in the hallways was just sick and hilarious.

Cowboy Kurt and Austin were amazing.

Pretty much anything Jericho did in WCW, especially with Malenko.

Edge and Christian, and their kazoos of awesomeness.

Rocks Hell in a Cell promo.

Nwo mocking the horseman trumps DX i know people don't have fond memories of it but seriously that was just killer and before anyone says it was insulting remember XPAC painted himself black to impersonate Mark Henry and he was better as Flair in the horseman skit.

I actually rank Gorilla Monsoon & Bobby Heenan as one of the greatest comedy duos of all time transcending wrestling. If you want to really see some great comedic timing and great chemistry just look up some of their skits from Prime Time Wrestling especially on shows where they went on the road.

A lot of "Macho King" Randy Savage and Queen Sherri's promos together were unintentionally hilarious because they were usually on totally different pages, but both equally crazy in their own ways. Seriously, how could one even be on the same page as Randy Savage? In the same publication, even!

Also, I was there live when DX dressed up and made fun of "The Crock" and the Nation. I vividly remember laughing about it for days. Then again, I was 13 years old...

Let's get right down to it: Santino Marella is worlds funnier than DX ever was. You know why? Because you can't be funny when you're trying to look cool, and nobody in DX ever stopped trying to look cool. Especially Triple H.

I can't believe no one mentioned when Buba Ray Dudley gave 80 year old Mae Young a sit down powerbomb off of the stage through a table. Never laughed so hard during a wrestling show.

Honorable Mention: John Cena's promo to Kurt Angle, that ended up involving Snitsky, the Divas locker room, and The Boogeyman.
Honorable Mention 2: Ric Flair strutting behind Stacy Keibler during the Musical Chairs segment.
Honorable Mention 3: CHIKARA: Olsen Twins vs. A team I can't remember. They go into a slow motion spot...fans start chanting "This is awesome!"...in slow motion.

5.) CHIKARA: The Colony come out to Dave Matthews's "Ants Marching". Music stops accidentally...they freeze. Larry Sweeney pisses himself laughing.

4.) Mankind having fun with a stretcher and sliding down the ramp until he collided head first into the ring. I pissed myself laughing.

3.) The DVD menu screen for the CHIKARA "Behind the 8-Ball" show. Don't know it, just watch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dV8b_OOnUZI

2.) The infamous "Man of 1,004 Holds" promo by Chris Jericho

I cant remember exactly what he said but if anyone knows or has the video please say or link it.......... or Austin trying to get Spike Dudley to sign a petion and he called Molly Holy a bimbo. Just the way it was done...... What about HHH's Birthday party with Edge and Christain

Wait what about Booker T's promo at wrestlemania pretending to be smart and the classic line.... Im smart cant you see i have glasses on SUCKA.....
Or when Regal was peeing in the bathroom and someone was after him and he was on edge, and he heard a noise and turned his head and was peeing on the Big Show and Show was screaming "REGAL REGAL" hahahhaa

Kurt angle in the little cowboy hat.
Also why nothing with Bobby Heenan?
During a Wcw match TonyChiavone mentions how Alex Wright and Brian Pilman have a lot in common. Heenan replies with, yeah theyre both punks.
Joey Styles one time commenting on a wrestling staring down another wrestler so hard ,that he was burning a hole in him. Then theres a close up of Francine and Joey says, and speaking of burning holes.
PUblic Enemy training with Mikey Whipwreck for a ladder match with a six pack hanging from a tree.

Rocky and the hurricane... The funniest lines?

The Rock: "let the Rock remind you of somethin. You ain't NOTHIN. Look at you, 5 foot nothin. 100 pounds nothin. Wait, the Rock's cell phone is ringing.. Hey it's Nothin, he says he knows you."

and later...

The Hurricane: "Judging from what I saw earlier, it means the Scorpion King's got a tiny ding-a-ling"

some random favorites:

Every Million Dollar Man promo, but ESPECIALLY the one in the Pool. These vignettes are gold, I tell you!

The following Dusty Rhodes promo. Right after Baby Doll turned on him. Missing this is just shameful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0sFhGM83VE

Austin and Booker T in the supermarket.

CHRISTIAN: Tomko, gimme a beat.
TOMKO: No.

The first Norman Smiley Hardcore match.

The Hardcore title match which ran throughout all of WM18

"Admit it Lillian, you get wet... WITH PERSPIRATION, standing this close to The Rock!"

Curt Hennig and the West Texas Rednecks "Rap is Crap" movement. The fact that they did a video for this had us falling over in the dorm.

Another Hennig WCW gem. His promo before getting whooped by Goldberg a second time. He managed to slip in the phrase "Hogan slipped on a banana peel." He then got beat even faster than before.

And, what was perhaps the most morbidly funny thing EVER, Big Show hanging on to his "father's" casket, as Bossman dragged it throughout the cemetery.

That TNA Team 3D Funeral was awesomeness personified, and I forgot how funny Disco's spoof video was.

As much of a WCW mark as I am though, the "This Is Your Life" segment was probably the funniest moment in wrestling history, and Rock is the wrestler who's made "funny" work at the highest level. Christian, Disco, AMW, Norman Smiley, Kane, Kurt Angle, Sean Waltman, Triple H, HBK, Owen Hart, HTM, Kevin Nash, and Scott Hall have also done a good job of it here and there along the years.

I know most people wouldn't have seen it, but anything involving British Indie stars Mad Man Manson and J.P Monroe was always awesomely funny. They wrestled almost an entire match in slow motion once (For Irish Whip Wrestling I believe), it was hilarious. I also remember Manson getting confused and thinking he was the referee in a match. While Monroe got concussion at one point and spent several months thinking he was a WW2 fighter pilot. Sadly never saw the end of that angle as it was on RQW and they had a year without video where I kinda lost interest (which was also a bummer because that was Jetta's show too, but at least I can see her in Shimmer these days). Sadly none of that seems to be on Youtube, but there is some Mad Man Manson stuff.

5)Rocks promo with Coach about 'Bessy the Cow' - perhaps the most underrated Rock promo.. its hilarious

4) Rocks promo on Angle and Regal as kids solving the problem of who should play with Angle's 'ball'

3) Jericho man of a 1004 moves

2) Angle/Cena rap off Smackdown 03'

1) Austin/ Angle/ Vince cowboy hats.... "yippe ki yay"

Honorable mentions: Rock sings happy birthday to Steph, Rock and Hurricane meet for the first time backstage, Austin first What promo.

A lot of good calls so far but i got 3 words for ya: I Hate Rap!
BookerT/Golddust as a team had some moments. Ernest the Cat Miller calling out anybody in the back and King of Comedy Kevin Nash telling scott Norton "Hey Norton, Hes calling you out" led to weeks of hlilarious beatdowns. And Ernest again for his Royal Rumble appearance. Of course all moments take a back seat to Number 718: An Armbar!

Not including any unintentionally funny moements (eg shockmaster) - and in no particular order (and will probably go over 5)
- Man of 1,004 holds
- The Showster - backlash '00
- E&C poses - the one from Judgement day '00 sticks out
- jimmy cracked corn
- Rock and Austin singing comp. not the one from Raw, the one after the cameras went off at rebellion '01. Lasted longer and was funnier. Superb
- Shrimpin ain't easy
- I just kicked Stan
- HHH v HBK european title match

I oculd go on....

"Hell, anything the Rock said or did in 2003 as a heel was off the charts awesome."

He said Toronto! YAY! That's where we live!

I agree that it needs more ECW (just about anything Stevie was involved with from 1995-97, and don't forget Public Enemy's promos; i.e. the Uncensored parody) and more pre-'90s stuff. The Attitude Era/MNWars didn't have the patent on wrestling comedy, you know.

In fact - I am going to carry on

- SCSA appreciation night - Steph's singing and Austin's reaction - priceless
- What? - it was funny in the beginning and don't pretend it wasn't
- Austin v Booker in the supermarket
- Sid to Nash - "I have half the brains that you do"
- Foley to MEM - "great technical wrestlers liek Kevin Nash" followed by Nash's expression - cracked me up
- Rated RKO as DX - good mannersims - particularly orton as HBK
- and about a million rock promo's and DX skits

Honorable mention - Cena/Angle rap battle

The Rock mocking the Big Show after the rumble

The DX/Nation paraody

Undertaker, Edge, Rikishi vs Eddie, Benoit and Angle. Towards the end of the match Benoit and Angle start fighting and Eddie tries to join the other team.

Eddie/Flair at the rumble, when Eddie stole Flairs number and wallet

At a PPV I can't remember. Vince in full strut walking backstage runs into Cena and says "My n!gg@" with Booker T standing right behind them. After I picked my jaw off the floor I laughed for 10 minutes. The poem Big Boss Man recited to Show's dead daddy was funny as hell. And finally, all of the Jericho/Ralphus stuff was gold too.

Oh, god, the memories.

Nearly every Rock promo got some form of laughter out of me...The series he did with Coachman, the Hurricane, and Chris Jericho respectively all stand out, but the funniest was the original "It doesn't matter" one, which was thankfully mentioned above, about God talking to Billy Gunn.

"Bob..."
"Uh, my name's Billy - "
"IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOUR NAME IS!"

I almost had a stroke.

I'm also glad Eddie Guerrero got some love. An indicator that a performer is over tremendously with the crowd is when he doesn't have to say anything at all and can still get a huge reaction. The "lie, cheat, steal" bits he came up with were so great, and so different, that by the time he gave his last match, all he had to do was give that goofy smirk and everyone immediately knew something hilarious and awesome was going to happen, and they went nuts for it.

A few other little known or otherwise unmentioned favorites:

- Mick Foley hitting on Tori, thereby tricking Kane into beating the holy hell out of fake Mankind, aka Mideon

- Chris Jericho trying to talk his way out of a similar ass kicking by Kane

-Stone Cold Steve Austin handing Altoids to William Regal after he joined the Kiss My Ass Club

-Austin vs. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, where he took a shit in their private bathroom, sold a dozen or so cases of beer to the APA, and then snatched Stephanie's shirt off in front of the live crowd

-Pete Rose in the chicken suit

MiniDust humping Booker T's leg.

bWo skits.

Joel Gertner's nicknames.

In response to Gertner saying, "Beulah has a box, but Francine has a luxury box", Dreamer talking about Francine's smelly, skanky luxury box.

Moolah and Mae Young should have several entries, topped by them literally coming out of the closet after Okerlund and Heenan at WM.

Chavo Classic's effeminate skits.

Angle saying to Austin that in '96 Angle was winning gold medals while Austin was losing Caribbean strap matches to Savio Vega.

Ivory calling herself, "The 10th wonder of the World" the night after she beat Chyna for the Women's Title.

Mark Henry's Sexual Chocolate gimmick with Chyna.

Where is the Rock's parody of the NWO??? Eddie is not mentioned nearly enough here. No one will be as creative in the ring as Eddie was in the ring. Him stealing Ric's Number then Wallet at the RR 2005 still cracks me up and brings a tear to my eye thinking about how awesome it would be for him to still be around. Good stuff, but some missed stuff too...

The whole Jericho thing in WCW at Slamboree with the introductions of the Cruiserweight Battle Royal was tremendous. When you can do comedy like that at the beginning of a match and get a MASSIVE pop for Malenko unmasking at the end of it, that's something special.

The Booker T/Stone Cold grocery store bit is always funny to me, partly because of Booker's whining at Stone Cold the whole time he's getting his ass kicked and partly because of Stone Cold's classic "Price check on a jackass!" line at the end of it,

Austin's "Steve-a-mania" and "Monday Nyquil" promos in ECW should have gotten some mentions too since those ones always kill me. Bongo..lol

I'm sure there's more I'll end up thinking of later on

5) Heel rock in 2003- Hurricane segments, 'Leaving Sacramento' etc.

4) "We don't need no stinkin badges!"

3) "IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THE ROCK COUNTS TO THREE!"

I've got a few that haven't been mentioned explicitly:

1. Edge and Christian's rap on Road Dogg and K-Kwik

2. HHH staring down Edge and Christian at the birthday party, them looking at each other and saying "Hey! We can do your theme too!" and then play My Time on kazoo.

3. The time they did a segment with Trish putting on Kurt's gold medals, the look on Kurt's face when the medal disappears into her cleavage is GOLD.

4. Jericho and The Rock trading Stephanie McMahon insults- the promo that got the "in the case of a crash landing, we can use Stephanie's breasts as a flotation device" line

Heenan and Monsoon were great as a comedy duo whether they meant to be or not.
Eddie hitting his opponent(usually with a title belt)then covering up and pretending he didn't.When the referee would try to check,Eddie would shake his head.'No,no,no!'I loved that.
And most anything Kane does is funny to me,especially the Dudleys imitation back in the 2000's when he was teaming with his brother.(I think this was 2001,during the time of Taker's second wife.)And Kane doing the 'Hello,Morley!'Val Venis impression, though for me that was more, ahem, exciting than funny.
And at my first house show,Tajiri pretending to pull out Carlito's hair and toss it around. That was something that had be seen to understand why it was funny.

Fuck, I forgot about the Ballad of Lacey. They were THE MATCH OF THE YEAR!

And I thought pretty much all of the Rock's career goes without saying, but 2003 in particular is great. What about that one promo with Hogan? Where he was all "I don't think you understand The Rock, maybe I need to speak in your language: UHHH WHAT CHA GONNA DO BROTHER (starts having a seizure) RBGBGJERDIFKMAFNGHGRNRHGH BROTHER!"

Yeah WCW Jericho was classic.

Didn't Boss Man write some poem for Show? It ended with something like "........it is too bad that your daddy croaked"

JR getting "set on fire" by Kane was pretty funny

Yeah, Angle was better in WWE. He can do either the serious wrestling stuff or funny. Let when Austin would play the guitar and Angle would try to join in.

Austin: I am great Debra tell him I am great
Debra: -
Austin: That's right!

Do you remember when Owen would no sell for the Rock? He would put Owen in a Leg Lock and Owen would yawn. That was awesome.

When wrestling shows attempt comedy it sucks, plain & simple. 99.9% of the time the "comedy" is lame and so insulting a nine-year-old would feel his IQ drop a few points for having been subjected to it. Occasionally you get a few jokes that don't make you feel like killing yourself (the .01%) but comedy and wrestling do not mix, although...

...I'd say hearing Bobby Heenan's comments during a Bret Hart match or any time the cameras would show Stu & Helen Hart were funny. A lot better than most of the shit on these lists.

Santino's "antics" could be in a five-way tie for the UNfunniest moments in wrestling. He mispronounced Akon as Akorn? I guess that would be funny to either a five year old, someone on drugs, or maybe just a five year old on drugs.

A personal favorite of mine was when Santino stole JERRY'S DELICIOUS SUBWAY SANDWICH.

I laughed for at least a minute.

Eddie Guerrero's Lie Cheat and Steal viginettes were not very funny, in my opinion, and are probably alot better in most people's minds now because of his death just like every other aspect of his career. Disappointed to not see the short-lived Bobby Heenan Show mentioned anywhere

Remember the Big Show/Cena battle rap? "You're the white girl and I'm Kobe Bryant!"

"When wrestling shows attempt comedy it sucks, plain & simple.

Posted By: Zingy (Guest) on June 17, 2009 at 02:10 PM"

Very ignorant statement. Comedy in wrestling works fine when it's organic and you don't see the jokes coming from a mile away. You also have to account for visuals (essentially every Mick Foley segment in 1998 is classic comedy; his 2000 commissioner stuff? Not so much).

You also have to consider for who the commentators are at the time of a comedic skit. Kurt Angle doing "Milk-a-mania" was great because Jim Ross was doing the commentary. The DX parody of the Corporation and the Austin beer bath on Rock & Vince fell flat because Michael Cole's forced laughter took all the humor out of those segments.

Comedy in wrestling is definitely a lost art form these days. With Jericho becoming a serious character, Santino is all that's left for comic relief. And his stuff is typically hit or miss, particularly now that he's a good guy which takes away from his character and delivery.

DX Parodies the Nation was NOT funny cause HHH is a douche and a hack.

Posted By: Guest#6768 (Guest)  on June 17, 2009 at 05:33 PM

I have three groups of three's that take the cake:

Edge, Christian, Foley - E&C were phenomenal on their own but when they interacted with Commissioner Foley (Miss? Miss who?) it was gold. From "Mick just got you sodas!" to the Chicken Suit Epic these three were bloody brilliant.

Austin, Angle, McMahon - Off-the-deep-end Austin with goofball suckup Angle was priceless, as was a bewildered Mr McMahon playing straight man. There was nothing better than seeing Vince getting pissed at Austin for sucking up only for Austin to reprimand Angle for doing the same thing seconds later. And who can forget the cowboy hats and badges? Badges?!

Rock, Booker, Goldust - Vengeance 2002. Look it up. Nuff said.

To round out my top five I'd go ahead and add the obvious DX parody of the Nation and Jericho's "Man of 1.004 Holds" schtick which still causes me to yell "ARMBAR!" to this day.

Jim Ross totally made the Kurt Angle Milkamania bit with his own self parody: "By gawd! The Million Dollar Princess has become a Dairy Queen!"

Back when Cena and Angle were feuding (I believe it was 2003) I remember Angle coming out dressed as Cena and started calling out "Kurt Angle" to come to the ring. What we got was a midget dressed as Angle, I thought it was great. I know it's been done 100 times but Kurt made it awesome when he got "trapped" in the ankle lock and started sucking his thumb while tapping. God I miss how Kurt Angle used to be.

I also forgot a more recent favorite of mine:

CM Punk dressing up as a Crazy Mariachi (Get it?) at Chavo Guerrero's ECW Championship celebration and, with a crazed look on his face that would've made Brian Pillman proud, smashing a guitar over Chavo's head. I was laughing for the rest of the show.

Youtube if you missed it. It's worth it

A lot of great ones mentioned DX Nation THE PCS tournament my all time favorite bedpan Mcmahon, And of course the first appearance of Jameson on the Bobby Heenan show. now unmentioned, Flair for the Old WCW, A visit to Dr D David Schultz's home, Hogan training Okerlund for their one time match, Tazz's kitchen using WWF Magazine as a secret ingredient, Christian at WWF new york where he made the waiters keep bringing his food back to him until they adressed him as Champion of Europe and then not eating cause his food was cold, Steve Blackman in Too Cool, Steve Blackman Comedy Hour with Al Snow, and no one mentioned it I believe i may have been the only person to ever see it. Perry Saturn when Moppy was put thru the woodchipper he was so distraught that on an episode of WWF Excess in 2001 Trish Stratus delivered the Trish Moppy. A moppy with Trish's face and then she sang "The sun will come out tommorrow with Perry Saturn a real heartwarming and funny moment that Coach could not keep a straight face for.

Other funny moments!!!

Santino attempting to copy Melina's entrance, nearly splitting himself in two (especially the Goldust entrance in the locker room afterwards)

Shawn Michaels at Cyber Sunday superkicking everyone on the way out to the ring. When he hit the guy with all the papers & they went flying, I just about lost it.

"Just on a final note, I have one word for you - Ralphus."

Happy to see that I'm not the only one who could see the priceless comedy value of Ralphus... The guy was gold...

Not a lot of love for the original ECW here

Baron Von Stevie
Tyler's Birthday Party "shut up kid"
"Good god man don't you know I have an eating disorder"
"Tommy's got some darn good amateur skills. I'm hardcore, I'm hardcore"

Even if you want to go WWF how can you miss the Bobby Heenan Show. "Don't do that you'll go blind"

Sure it's brand new, but Miz this past monday night with the t-shirt gun was amazing. 1004 probably would be my favorite. As for a non-specific thing, people selling the Stone Cold Stunner. Two in particular: Santino in recent years, I think he was saluting as he just fell back, but my favorite was when Scott Hall damn near flew out of his shoes. Oh, and HBK overselling Hogan.

Posted By: Guest#2741 (Guest)  on June 18, 2009 at 01:21 AM

I'm kinda surprised at all the love that the "1004" promo is getting but it definitely was funny. Hell Jericho in WCW was great and I think someone like the Miz can work with that type of personality. A few other moments that I remember that weren't mentioned:

Angle coming out as HBK in the buildup to WM22

Val Venis/Ka En Tai- dont know why but "I choppy choppy your pee pee" had me rollin

Mankind attempting to be the "Corporate Champion", sucking up to Vince

Pete Rose' multiple failed attacks on Kane at WM

Mountie spends the night in jail at SummerSlam '91

Actually thinking back and trying to pinpoint ALL of the funny memories is damn near impossible but for my own amusement here's a list of some of the ppl that provided me with great laughs thru the years:

The Rock (my all-time number 1), Jericho, Austin, Angle, Edge & Christian, HBK, Booker T, Scott Steiner (promo machine), Hall & Nash, and of course Latino Heat. Also, Piper, Heenan, Slick, Cornette, and Jerry Lawler from my early days watching were all great at what they did. Good column

Where is Norman Smiley and his hardcore matches on this countdown??

Posted By: JohnnyPark360 (Guest) on June 17, 2009 at 01:42 AM

More specifically, the match where he came out in a full suit of armor, and every time he did his standard Screamin', it echoed inside his giant metal helmet and hurt his ears.

I'm glad Santino got nothing more than a single honerable mention. The guy is not funny at all.

A favorite Rock moment- backstage, Rock having a conversation with some backstage guy, guy goes to introduce himself, Rock puts up hand, quietly says, "Uh uh. No."

Other moments- Angle's reaction after kissing his Olympic medals he just got back back from Benoit's(?) trunks.

Regal using the Power of the Punch to knock out Show- who lands on Regal for the 3-count.

As someone mentioned Angle's- "Hey! My chicken suit!"

At the start of some big 6-person tag- Michael's super kicks someone, I forget who, comes back to his corner and says "Who was that? Did I do good?"

Melina screeching in the face of someone about to pin MnM and breaking up the count.

Great article. But wasn't there a Raw before a Royal Rumble where Austin went on a stunnning spree, just stunning everyone he could get his hands on?, When was this?

Also, when was the Shawn Michaels needing the tickets thing and HBK superkicking everyone?

one funny moment was when on Nitro some fan tried to run into a match....only to be stopped and almost choked out by the smallest guy in the ring, Referee Mark Curtis(God Rest his soul)

Jericho's Spinal Tap influenced jab at Goldberg's entrance was also hilarious

also Jericho reading off his 1004 moves (complete with Armbar mentioned every 4th move named).

also this exchange between Joey Styles and Joel Gertner got me one time:

(guy misses a move and almost breaks his neck on a guardrail)

Styles: HOLY S###!!!!!!
Gertner: Watch your mouth, What the F### is wrong with you.
