411Mania's Squared Circle News Report 07.04.09
Posted by Dustin James on 07.04.2009

Welcome back inside the Squared Circle! As you all know, it's the freaking 4th of July and everyone is going to be having some fun tonight...unless of course you blow off a limb due to a drunken firework accident. Trust me, I've seen it happen and it's not pretty. Regardless, I hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th of July today and just remember...don't drink and drive.

Last week I promised you some fireworks considering it's the 4th of July and all. Well, I'm a man who always lives up to his promises, so here ya go......

YAY! I LIKE THINGS THAT ARE SHINY AND MAKE NOISE!!!!

OK, enough with the silly stuff.......

LET'S GET IT ON!!!!!

Biggest News Of The Week:

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper Arrested For DUI

Only a drunk man could look so ridiculous.....

You know it's a slow news week when this is my biggest story of the week. While it may not be a huge story to you, it's definitely a huge story for me! Why? Because I finally get my revenge! I finally get to see "Rowdy" Roddy Piper get his! You see, years ago when I was in high school, I posted online that a few of my friends egged Piper's house. Well, Piper somehow got a hold of this and turned it into the authorities. Needless to say, I was quite surprised when a police officer rolled up to my house to tell me that if anyone "eggs" Piper's house again, I'm the guy they will be looking for. AWESOME! I never tossed an egg at Piper's house, but my dad sure as hell thought I did! Therefore, I gotta say I got a little satisfaction out of seeing this story online Thursday morning.

You see, I have a little routine I do every morning. Immediately after my coffee I grab my lovely iPhone and check my favorite applications. Well, I have a TMZ application on there (I know, I'm cool like that) and when I checked it Thursday morning I noticed the Piper story and was a little overjoyed! Although I have to admit...the joy I'm getting out of seeing Piper arrested for a DUI actually isn't because he had the police come over to my house, but it's because the man was DRIVING DRUNK!

I know I'm not the first person to fill you in on how stupid and ignorant is to drive drunk. You not only put yourself at harm, but you also put the lives of people and buildings in harm's way as well. I know how it is, I've been there. You have a few too many to drink and then you get the liquid courage and decide "Screw it, I'm gonna drive. What are the chances that I get caught?". That may work a few times because you got lucky, but eventually you are going to get caught, get arrested, or worse....possibly kill yourself or kill someone else. A man like Piper can afford a taxi so he really has no excuse to be doing this. Hopefully it's just a set back and Piper will learn that public transportation is not that bad when you are drunk....unless of course you are sitting by a homeless man who reeks of urine and pennies.

Remember This Guy???

Giant Gonzalez

Listen, I'm all for wrestlers wearing hair on full-body suits....but can you at least put them on a guy who can move around a wrestling ring? When I first saw "El Gigante" in WCW, I was very impressed with his height and I thought the man could be a future world champion some day. Then again, I was 9 years old and liked to eat my own boogers. When "Giant Gonzalez" made his WWE debut and came down to the ring to attack The Undertaker at the 1993 Royal Rumble, the only thought I could conjure up in my head was how Gonzalez was able to stop himself from eating Harvey Wippleman.

In all seriousness, Gonzalez was a freak. He wore a full-body suit that had muscles airbrushed on it as well as hair placed in various spots. He only had two matches that I can remember (I'm sure he had more, I just blocked them from my memory) and they were both with The Undertaker. Thankfully he left the promotion after splitting up with Wippleman. That's a good thing because I really don't think the WWE fans could have cheered for a man wearing such a ridiculous suit....right?

Oh ya....that's right......

Random News Bits:

- As I predicted, Bobby Lashley moved to 4-0 in his MMA career with a "surprising" win over Bob Sapp last Saturday. The fight went down exactly as planned and Lashley looked pretty good once again. He has mentioned that he would like to fight a few more times this year and remain a "constant presence" in TNA. That is, if the UFC doesn't come calling of course....

- Brian "Grandmasta Sexay" Christopher was arrested on June 26 for public intoxication. According to reports he fell over a Coke cooler which caused over $200 in damage and he was very unsteady on his feet and became aggressive when put under arrest.

Updated wrestler death watch 2009:

1) Jake "The Snake" Roberts

2) Scott Hall

3) Brian Lawler

- Warner Brothers has successfully purchased Midway for $33 million which means the TNA video game is officially no more! Now, someone else can come along and decide to make a TNA game at some point....but no one is interested at the moment.

- TNA recently signed Sheik Abdul Bashir to a three-year extension. This is a good move for TNA. I have always been a fan of Daivari's. Speaking of which....I sure do miss that awesome Muhammad Hassan entrance theme. That shit was awesome~!

- Lillian Garcia recently posted the following on her website regarding her status with the WWE:

"I am writing to address the situation in which WWE is looking for a Female Ring Announcer/Singer. The truth of the matter is that they are looking for someone new because I have given them my notice that I will be leaving at the end of my contract this year. It is with a heavy heart that I have made this decision because WWE has been my family from day one and you, the WWE Universe, have always been incredible to me. The fact is that I am getting married later this year and have decided to enter into a new phase of my life, but I will truly miss all of you and the WWE tremendously."

Lillian....you will be missed.....

- Cyber Sunday's name has been officially changed to "Annihilation". Could they pick a harder word to spell? Now I have to put up with 100 different misspelling of "annihilation" from the......well.....you know.

- The rumored plan as of now is to have Batista return at Survior Series....which happens to be in Washington, DC. There ya go Batista fan boys, mark your calenders and start counting the days.

- Click here to see a great interview with Elijah Burke. He discusses his time with the WWE, beating Kofi Kingston at Madden, and Michael Jackson.

- Here's the complete listing of the upcoming "Rise And Fall Of WCW DVD" which the WWE will be releasing soon. Yes, before you ask, I have looked over this list and it is DELICIOUS! I'm actually going to pre-order this son of a bitch as we speak....

Wrestling Top 10 Lists:

Top 10 nWo Members of All-Time

(The nWo was perhaps the greatest wrestling stable of all-time. Did you know that out of ALL the different versions of the nWo, there have been over 50+ members of the legendary stable. So, who do I consider the top 10 nWo members of all-time? Well, my voting criteria is pretty easy. It's basically WHO I LIKED THE BEST. Pretty simple eh? So sit back, grab a Pepsi Throwback, and read this....)

This list IS IN a particular order......

Honorable Mentions:

Ted DiBiase - When DiBiase left the WWE in 1996, no one knew where he was headed. His wrestling career was over so there wasn't much for DiBiase to offer besides a role as an announcer or a manager. Well, that's exactly what happened.....sort of. DiBiase entered WCW as the man who was "financing" the nWo. With DiBiase's financial backing, the nWo was able to buy luxurious items such as Vincent.....the head of the nWo security team. SMELL DA MONEY~!!!!

Konnan - Konnan was a pretty regular wrestler when he first entered WCW, but that all changed once he joined the Dungeon of Doom and started acting a little more "gangster". When he joined the nWo, he became known as "K-Dawg" and even had a nice little catchphrase that he would say before every match that seems to escape me right now. I'm sure someone will remind me of it in the comments section.....

AND NOW.....THE TOP 10!!!

10) Syxx/X-Pac

Syxx/X-Pac gets a spot here due to the fact that he was one of the original members of the nWo. Once the WWE released "The 1-2-3 Kid", we all knew it was only a matter of time before he was headed to WCW to join his friends Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. Well, that's exactly what happened. Syxx loved the nWo so much that once the group came to the WWE in 2002, he decided to join the faction again. Now THAT'S loyalty!

9) Buff Bagwell

A lot of people tend to really hate on Buff Bagwell now a days, but one thing is for sure...the man made one hell of a personality change when he joined the nWo. He went from being a member of the lame ass "American Males" and became "Buff Bagwell" in the blink of an eye and forever annoyed the world to this day. Seriously, how long did his WWE stint last? Like three seconds???

8) The Giant/The Big Show

The Giant was one of the original members of the nWo. While his first stint didn't last that long, he loved the nWo so much that he even joined the stable once they hit the WWE. Let's hope that's the last time I have to discuss the WWE's version of the nWo.....

7) Scott Steiner

No one had such a drastic personality change once they joined the nWo other than "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner. Just looking back at his tag team matches with Rick Steiner and then watching him run rampant in his days with the nWo is like night and day. "Big Poppa Pump" was such a huge success with the crowd that he's still around to this day....

6) Masahiro Chono

Of course Chono is going to be listed here! It was a shocker when he joined the nWo and it was more of a shocker when he brought the stable to Japan. Chono was always one of my favorite Japanese wrestlers and when he joined the nWo, he became THAT much cooler.

5) Randy Savage

At first, Randy Savage wanted nothing to do with the nWo. However, after Eric Bischoff forced Savage to join the stable, he soon began to bleed black and white~! Plus, Savage's nWo music was hella sweet DIGG IT!

4) Eric Bischoff

Eric Bischoff sure did pull a fast one on everyone, didn't he? The WCW head honcho had everyone believing that the nWo was taking over WCW and that he was going to be the man to stop them! That was until it was revealed that he was actually a member of the nWo....BOO YA! When I think back now, I honestly can't remember anyone more annoying than Eric Bischoff during his nWo run, but I guess that's one reason it was so memorable.

3) Kevin Nash

Nash was one of the THREE original members of the nWo and was a huge reason the nWo got over so big. He was a former WWE champion and he was here on enemy territory and he was TAKING OVER!!! How could any true blood wrestling fan NOT get excited for this? Nash helped turn WCW into the biggest wrestling promotion in the world (temporarily) so of course "Big Sexy" is going to make this list.

2) Hulk Hogan

I got a confession to make. During his WWE run, I was not a fan of Hulk Hogan's. However, that all changed once Hogan told the fans to STICK IT and joined the nWo. It was perhaps the biggest heel turn in wrestling history and it actually made Hogan enjoyable. Turning Hogan heel was a brilliant move by WCW and we will probably never be able to relive a moment like that again.

1) Scott Hall

Hey yo! Scott Hall was "the" first member of the nWo...so naturally he should get the #1 spot. For those of you who didn't watch WCW, Hall was the man! Anytime Scott Hall was on your television screen, you knew you were in for a good time. I still say that if it weren't for his demons, Scott Hall would have been a multiple time world champion. His story is truly a sad one....

I am so glad you started off the Top 10 list by stating that X-Pac was an original member. Nash, Hall and Hogan were the original members no matter how you slice it. Also, question to the comment board-if you pick a 'DX of today', who would you pick? Four punks that go around and wreak havoc on the WWE, ala 1998.....?

Hey 411 comment-haters,

Does anybody know if WWE has put the very 1st Wargames (from Bash 87: Rhodes, Kolloff, Road Warriors, & Ellering vs Flair, Blanchard, Anderson, Luger, & Dillon) on DVD anywhere? Thanks

Christ, could this possibly have any more filler in it? Did Steve Sullivan ghost write for you this week? A thousand pictures and tons of empty space does not equal "content". And I usually dig your column, too.

Scott Hall is the man

Posted By: Kent Baker (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 12:23 AM

That Drunken Idiot Hall is #1. Sure He, Nash and Hogan should go 1,2,3, but Hall is NOT a #1. He never even held the world title!

Also, who the hell is Masahiro Chono? And when the heck was he in the nWo? Whatever, your list sucks.

Posted By: Michael (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 12:26 AM

Nice list man. Oh & btw, i'm not Vincent from the nWo. lol.

i beleive the phrase your searching for is "the wolfpac is rowdy rowdy and bout it bout it"

the original wolfpac was a novel concept, a stable within a stable, a subunit. i wish it only lasted longer.

Michael, Michael, Michael. Do be ignorant is one thing but to open your mouth and remove any doubt? That is stupid. Chono, to give you the education most fans already know, headed up the Japan chapter of the nWo. WCW did their Japan tour and decided to "expand" so they franchised the nWo and Chono was the godfather. Before posting a comment like the one you did learn a new word...google.

So, you posted online that you were friends with people that vandalized Piper's house, and you're pissed at him when the cops show up? That is the most retarded thing I've heard in my entire life, and I've heard all of Sarah Palin's speeches.

Dustin Did It Again!!Nice List.Hall Is Number One,I Am Ok With That.He Was The First To Come With We Are Taking Over!!No Love For Me??Lol

My favourite NWO moment was when Hall was on the mic and he got fucking NAILED right in the face by a large cup of pepsi or something and kept talking like nothing happened. Then Nash chimed in with the line "And his hair was perfect." Classic.

Posted By: paco smith (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 04:33 AM

1) HOGAN
2)HALL
3)NASH
4) BRET HITMAN HART
5) BUFF BAGWELL
6) STEINER
7) RANDY SAVAGE
8) GIANT
10) HBK
WHY BRET? because Bret did embody the lone wolf theme. For instance it was rare that Bret would come out with the nWo entrance music, also he rarely relied on the nWo helping him out, plus when he was involve with the group he made it look cool, for instance look up in you tube when Bret invited stevie ray to the nWo.

Posted By: REBEL (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 04:47 AM

Hogan has to top this.. the nWo would of meant nothing in the long term if he didn't join.

1) Hogan
2) Hall
3) Nash
4) Bish
5) Shawn Michaels lol

Off the top of my head, Giant Gonzales also wrestled LA Gore, Tatanka in a KOTR qualifying match, and particpated in the Intercontinental battle royal.

How the hell do you have a job on this site? I thought I'd pop in and check if there was anything decent but each column seems to be a million pictures, a couple of videos that anyone can find on youtube, your top 10 whatever list every week that nobody cares about and nothing else.

Posted By: Col (Guest)  on July 04, 2009 at 09:32 AM

Did someone seriously just ask who the hell Masahiro Chono is? Really? What are you, like 12? He was only an NWA World Champion and one of the best WCW / Japan crossovers during the '90's. I'm not sure I would have put him that high on the nWo list, but his turn was shocking and it brought the nWo up to a new level by spreading the stable not only across promotions, but across continents. Take that IV Horsemen!

That's right! Konnan said something like "ol la lay! arriba la razza!" at the start of his promos.

I don't know what that means in spanish but yay for cultural diversity!

Ok lets take a step back:

Yes its cool to hate on Hogan and his work rate and non-imagination in matches, He deserves it. Yes he was selfish and kept others down, he refused to work with people, he refused to lose.

HOWEVER, Scott Hall didnt get the NWO on local news in 1996.

Scott Hall didnt shock the world turning heel on July 7, 1996.

Mostly; Tony Schiavone's only classic comment is NOT, "Scott Hall you can go to hell! We're outta here. Straight to hell."

Nope, I cant stand Hogan as a wrestler or a reality tv whore but he wins this one.

Everyone seemed to forget the "Yo Yo Yo Let me speak on this" part.

When you think about it Scott Hall's character is the closest comparison to the NWO demeanor. It's the hardest thing in the world to explain but I always thought The NWO used Hall's personality for the entire group. Great pick for #1.

God I still want Nash. I love promos and he's the best. Still have my doll (signed) and a plaque a friend got me for my Bday.

lol...DX in the end was better than the NWO becuz it was kept small and at first elite.

Why do you need a stable with more than five people?Seriously...

No Sting? He fueled the rivalry between the red and white factions.

It was expanded to ridiculous proportions because the plan was to have Nitro be an all nWo show & have the soon-to-debut Thunder show be for WCW. Trouble was, no-one wanted an all nWo show & they were left with half the roster in the nWo & no-one caring!
