411’s Dustin James discusses the top 10 Summerslam Wrestlers, Kevin Nash’s recent interview, Beaver Cleavage, Chuck Palumbo’s singing career, TNA’s creative team and much more! Check out the full column for all the details!
Welcome back inside the Squared Circle! How is everyone doing this week? Me? I'm totally excited! Why? Because by the time you read this I'll be chilling at the beach, sand in the toes and beer in my hand! And then tonight I'll be heading over to the casino to watch Gina Carano hopefully squash Cris "Cyborg" Santos in the most anticipated fight in women's MMA history! It should be a good day and hopefully nothing ruins it....except the rain that's in the forecast. Sometimes Mother Nature can be a real bitch!
Anyway........
LET'S GET IT ON!!!!!
Biggest News Of The Week:
Kevin Nash...who doesn't love this guy?
Ya, it's a slow news week.........
Due to the lack of "big" news this week, I decided to turn my attention to someone who actually needs attention.....Kevin Nash. Ok, while Nash may not NEED attention, he does love it! Therefore, he will be getting a little courtesy of me this week. Mr. Nash recently sat down with Alfonso Castillo of Newsday.com to discuss all sorts of delicious topics. So why not take a look at it for ourselves?
Nash recalls a conversation he had with HBK & HHH many moons ago:
"We were kind of going through the rosters and saying who are the guys who are going to replace us. Which guys are going to replace us when we retire? And everybody throughout names around and there weren't a whole lot of names of guys who we thought were going to replace us. You look at a guy like Edge, and now he's starting to realize – and, gosh, I don't even know how old he is but he I think he's in his 30's. And he's getting to the point where he's had a ton of injuries. John Cena has had a ton of injuries. With these guys, it's almost [a question of] who can last."
You know what's funny about this entire paragraph? The fact that Nash is calling out dudes for "being injured too often". This coming from the guy who had THIS happen to him.....
So yaaaaa. Who's Nash to say something along the lines of "no one is ever going to replace us because everyone seems to be so injury prone." I honestly do hope this conversation with HHH and HBK happened along time ago, because I'm pretty sure Edge and John Cena have officially replaced Nash as one of the "big guys" in wrestling by now. I would REALLY love to find out when this conversation took place, because if I know the ego's of these three men....there's a chance it went down LAST WEEK.
On negotiations he recently had with the WWE regarding a comeback:
""My whole thing was that I came into prominence with Shawn. And I know that Shawn is thinking about – I don't think he's going to be doing it that much longer. And I kind of wanted to have that circle of life. I wanted it on my wall of shame in my house to have that 1993 picture of Shawn Michaels doing a double-bicep pose with the black headed Diesel behind him and then I wanted a 2010 photo of Shawn Michaels doing the double-bicep pose with the gray-haired Diesel behind him."
I'm actually a fan of this idea. It's not like Nash would return to the WWE and DOMINATE. He'd likely return for a two-month run with HBK as a tag partner and then he would be able to retire with a picture of the gray-haired Diesel on his wall. I'd personally like to see Nash return for a WrestleMania run. Imagine a WrestleMania match featuring the "Two Dudes With Attitude" battling WHOEVER the top tag team in the WWE is at the time. I'd like to say "Legacy", but we all know Ted DiBiase is set for a face run in the near future. Screw it, put Nash & HBK vs. HHH & X-Pac. IT'S AN ALL-KLIQ DREAM MATCH BY GAWD~!
On his interest in becoming a booker for TNA:
‘I have a 13-year-old son who needs a father way more than TNA needs a booker… I don't do anything half-assed. If you put me in there, it means I'm thinking about it 24/7. You have to, because when you're lying there in the sun, you get an idea and it's like, ‘God, that's way better than I thought.' And you've got to get up and you've got to write it down. And you've got to change in and so on. I'm really good friends with [Vince] Russo. And I see what he has to go through and the situation that happened where kind of right before the pay per view, some political things go down, and he's left with a show with a bunch of gaps in it and he's got to do his best to fill it. And those are the things that take years off your life. And at this point, right now, like what we talked about earlier – I'm closer to dying. So, I don't need the stress and they can't put enough zeros at the end of my paycheck."
Nash actually brings up a pretty good point. Being a booker is tougher than many of us think. I'm sure any of us out there would drop our current jobs for a booker job in a heart beat! But guess what? In a year from now you may tire of the constant stress of all the work and the fact that "nerds" on the Internet are poking fun at everything you do. I don't know about you, but that stuff would build up in my system until I finally exploded and did something stupid like create a character named "Bastion Booger". I'll let you guys do the booking....I'd much rather do the viewing of the final product.
On Scott Hall's problems:
"I don't feel guilty, but I don't think sad even begins to cover it. Because, to me, Scott Hall is probably one of the most talented guys I've ever been around in my life. One of the most charismatic. It crushes me. I've tried. Everybody's tried. But as much as you want somebody to live a sober life, unless they want to, it's just not going to happen. And I've been around it. Scott's been a close friend of mine. I've seen the demon of addiction and, God, it's just horrible. And people say, ‘Well if you want, you can get clean.' I'm of the mindset, being around it as much as I have on so many different levels with so many different guys, that it's a disease. It is absolutely a disease and it has to be treated as a disease. And, you know, some people don't make it from a disease."
Once again, I have to agree with Nash (trust me, I hate it). Hall is the first man I think of when I think of guy's who could have been HUGE wrestling superstars had they not had drug or alcohol problems. He was easily one of my favorite wrestlers when he stepped on the scene as "Razor Ramon" in the early 90's and he got even "sweeter" when he formed the nWo in the late 90's. However, the man has his demons. I've never actually had any "demons" myself seeing as the only things I'm addicted to aren't really considered "illegal" (except when in public). But he's telling the truth. You can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped. I'm not a drug/alcohol therapist by any means, but I've seen Intervention enough to be just as good as one of those "professionals". Scott Hall's story really makes my heart cry and I honestly hope the man can pull his shit together and live a longer life. As of right now, he's sitting at #2 on the "Wrestling Death Watch List"....right behind Jake "The Snake" Roberts of course.
On other guys bringing their wives on the road:
"I remember I was on the road with Rick Rude… And he looked over at me and he said, ‘Nash, whatever you do, don't bring your old lady around the business. Not backstage. Not anywhere.'... I don't think there's one of us in which there's not a Jeckyll and Hyde. You're different when you're in your character… There's so many times that you see a pretty girl walking backstage and the guys will walk by and you'll see them go, ‘God, who's that? And who's that? And who's that?' And you find out, eight minutes later, it's some guy's wife…The boys are the boys. They see a pretty girl and it does cause controversy. There's no doubt about it. The girls that we have, like the Christy Hemmes, and the Beautiful People, and Tracy – I look at those girls as sisters. They're part of the team. But it's always that fresh piece of meat that comes in. That's the one that causes [problems]. It's almost like putting chum in the shark tank. That's the one that the boys all start sniffing around – especially the single guys. And you can't blame them."
Apparently Rick Rude should have had a talk with Kurt Angle YEARS AGO. Perhaps then we could have avoided the situation that was the Angle/Angle/Jarrett love triangle......
If you would like to read the rest of the interview, it's right here. There is plenty of other good stuff....I'm just all Nash'd out! It will also happen to you after reading the rest of the interview.
Remember This Guy???
*Due to my hectic schedule this week (and the amount of time I spent on this week's "top 10") "Remember This Guy" will not be appearing this week. Instead why don't you just imagine someone extra crappy like Aldo Montoya or Beaver Cleavage in it's place. It's almost just as good.....
Ahh, screw it....here's a Beaver Cleavage video for you:
Random News Bits:
- For those of you wondering where Chuck Palumbo is at, he's apparently the lead singer for a band called "Chuck Palumbo and Three Spoke Wheel." And in case you were wondering.....yes, they suck. OK, I have never actually heard their music before, so I'm just assuming it sucks.
- In his latest blog, Jim Ross mentioned that he was told RAW guest host Jeremy Piven was a decent guy to be around and that he was trying hard to get the digits of different WWE divas. He was reportedly especially happy to get the # of Kelly Kelly. Hopefully if they hook up, Piven doesn't suffer the same fate of Kelly's ex-boyfriend......
......too soon?
- There was talk of using Charles "The Godfather" Wright as the guest host of the RAW in Las Vegas on August 24. However, that plan fell through as the host of the show will now be MIKE F'N ADAMLE! Consider me NOT excited~!
- Dr. Ken finally came out of hiding recently and appeared on the Jimmy Fallon Show. He talked about his appearance on RAW last week and as most of you remember, John Cena threw him out of the ring and the man landed square on his head! Dr. Ken insists that he was fine after that but he promised he would get his revenge on Cena someday. Can we say WRESTLEMANIA 26???? Start da rumors!
- The WWE is pushing hard to get Jeff Hardy to stick around. We should know if they were successful or not depending on the outcome of his SummerSlam match. I still expect him to drop the title and leave the company. If the man wants to take a break, then let him. It's not his fault you haven't created enough top babyface's to help replace the ones who leave. What do you guys think? You think Hardy is going to stick around and be a company man?
- Steve "Skinner" Keirn was at the Charlotte legends convention recently and made an ass out of himself. When discussing the UFC, he mentioned that it was a fad and that it would be out of business within five years. For those of you who don't follow MMA as close as I do, this is what we call "old man syndrome". It's basically old geezers who are afraid to accept anything new in society and therefore instantly hate on it. Otherwise known as "boxing announcers".
- The latest update regarding Jeff Jarrett and TNA is NOTHING. I'll be sure to keep you updated on this boring mess however......
- Some wrestlers in TNA recently went to Dixie Carter and suggested hiring either Gabe Sapolsky or Paul Heyman as a booker. Mrs. TNA mentioned that the company was planning on going in a new direction and want a writer with more of a "Hollywood background." Does this sound familiar to anyone else?

Wrestling Top 10 Lists:
Top 10 Best SummerSlam Wrestlers
SummerSlam is almost here and that means it's time for me to do a TON of SummerSlam-related top ten's! This week I'lll be ranking the top 10 best SummerSlam wrestlers. Basically, we all attribute WrestleMania as "Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker, and HBK's event", so who does SummerSlam belong to then? I actually did a nice bit of research for this top 10. I included SummerSlam appearances, how many times they were in the main event at SummerSlam, and of course...their win/loss record at the event. Oh, and I also threw in some personal bias as well. ENJOY!
This list IS IN a particular order......
Honorable Mentions:
Chris Jericho
SummerSlam Record: 1-5
SummerSlam Appearances:
- vs. Chris Benoit - 2/3 Falls Match (SummerSlam 2000)
- vs. Rhyno (SummerSlam 2001)
- vs. Ric Flair (SummerSlam 2002)
- vs. HHH, Goldberg, Randy Orton, Kevin Nash, and Shawn Michaels - Elimination Chamber (SummerSlam 2003)
- vs. Edge & Batista - Triple Threat for IC Title (SummerSlam 2004)
- vs. John Cena - WWE Championship (SummerSlam 2005)
Randy Orton
SummerSlam Record: 2-3
SummerSlam Appearances:
- vs. HHH, Goldberg, Chris Jericho, Kevin Nash, and Shawn Michaels - Elimination Chamber (SummerSlam 2003)
- vs. Chris Benoit - World Heavyweight Title (SummerSlam 2004)
- vs. The Undertaker (SummerSlam 2005)
- vs. Hulk Hogan (SummerSlam 2006)
- vs. John Cena - WWE Championship (SummerSlam 2007)
John Cena
SummerSlam Record: 3-2
SummerSlam Appearances:
- vs. Booker T - Best of 5 Series For IC Title (SummerSlam 2004)
- vs. Chris Jericho - WWE Championship (SummerSlam 2005)
- vs. Edge - WWE Championship (SummerSlam 2006)
- vs. Randy Orton - WWE Championship (SummerSlam 2007)
- vs. Batista (SummerSlam 2008)
AND NOW....THE TOP 10!
10) Kurt Angle
SummerSlam Record: 5-1
SummerSlam Appeareances:
- vs. The Rock & HHH - Triple Threat for WWE Championship (SummerSlam 2000)
- vs. Steve Austin - WWE Championship (SummerSlam 2001)
- vs. Rey Mysterio (SummerSlam 2002)
- vs. Brock Lesnar - WWE Championship (SummerSlam 2003)
- vs. Eddie Guerrero (SummerSlam 2004)
- vs. Eugene (SummerSlam 2005)
Kurt Angle made his SummerSlam debut at SummerSlam 2000 and was thrust RIGHT into the main event in a "Triple Threat" match with The Rock & HHH. As a matter of fact, three out of his six SummerSlam appearances were for the WWE Championship. If you also count his great matches with Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio...it's really hard to say that Angle's not one of the best wrestlers to ever appear at SummerSlam. Oh, it's true....it's true!
9) Steve Austin
SummerSlam Record: 3-2
SummerSlam Appeareances:
- vs. Yokozana (SummerSlam 1996)
- vs. Owen Hart - WWE IC Title (SummerSlam 1997)
- vs. The Undertaker - WWE Championship (SummerSlam 1998)
- vs. Mankind & HHH - Triple Threat for WWE Championship (SummerSlam 1999)
- vs. Kurt Angle - WWE Championship (SummerSlam 2001)
When you look back at Steve Austin's legacy, it's hard not too notice how incredibly short his WWE run was when you compare it to the likes of someone like Undertaker, Hogan, or HBK. Of course, his run was cut short due to injuries and the one that gets mainly credited for shortening Austin's career just happened to have gone down at SummerSlam 1997. Austin exploded onto the SummerSlam scene with a win over Yokozana (Yoko lost after the top rope buckled from the pressure of his weight) and didn't look back from there. It's a shame his career was cut short as he probably would have close to double the amount of SummerSlam appearances that he actually did make.
8) The Rock
SummerSlam Record: 3-2
SummerSlam Appearances:
- vs. HHH - Ladder Match for WWE IC Title (SummerSlam 1998)
- vs. Mr. Ass - "Kiss My Ass" Match (SummerSlam 1999)
- vs. Kurt Angle & HHH - Triple Threat for WWE Championship (SummerSlam 2000)
- vs. Booker T - WCW Championship (SummerSlam 2001)
- vs. Brock Lesnar - WWE Undisputed Championship (SummerSlam 2002)
Much like Steve Austin, The Rock's WWE career was way too short. For what it's worth though, The Rock made 5 appearances at SummerSlam and 4 of those 5 bouts were title fights! Not only that, but The Rock managed to bring the WCW title over to the WWE after he defeated Booker T. A feat that should have been a much bigger deal than it actually was......
7) The Ultimate Warrior
SummerSlam Record: 5-0
SummerSlam Appearances:
- vs. The Honky Tonk Man - WWE IC Title (SummerSlam 1988)
- vs. Rick Rude - WWE IC Title (SummerSlam 1989)
- vs. Rick Rude - WWE Championship (SummerSlam 1990)
- vs. Sgt. Slaughter, Colonel Mustafa, and General Adnan (SummerSlam 1991, Hulk Hogan was tag partner)
- vs. Randy Savage - WWE Championship (SummerSlam 1992)
Ahh, what could have been? SummerSlam was well on it's way to becoming Warrior's event before the guy went all psycho and stuff. Warrior EXPLODED onto the scene with a huge win over the Honky Tonk Man at SummerSlam 88, followed it up by defending his IC title with a huge win over Rick Rude. He then captured the WWE title from Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 6 and defended the title in a steel cage match with Rude at SummerSlam 1990. He then had a less-than-memorable tag team match with Hulk Hogan at SummerSlam 91 before following it up with a rematch with Randy Savage that was nowhere near as good as their bout at WrestleMania 7. See what I mean? Had the Warrior not gone all nuts on us....it's scary to think how huge this guy could have been.
6) Edge
SummerSlam Record: 7-2
SummerSlam Appearances:
- vs. Marc Mero & Jacqueline (SummerSlam 1998, Sable was tag team partner)
- vs. The Acolytes, The Hardy Boyz, The Holly's, Droz/Prince Albert, & Mideon/Viscera - Tag Team Turmoil (SummerSlam 1999, Christian was tag partner)
- vs. The Hardy Boyz & The Dudley Boys - TLC for WWE Tag Team Titles (SummerSlam 2000)
- vs. Lance Storm - WWE IC Title (SummerSlam 2001)
- vs. Eddie Guerrero (SummerSlam 2002)
- vs. Chris Jericho & Batista - Triple Threat for WWE IC Title (SummerSlam 2004)
- vs. Matt Hardy (SummerSlam 2005)
- vs. John Cena - WWE Championship (SummerSlam 2006)
- vs. The Undertaker - Hell in a Cell (SummerSlam 2008)
Edge has been with the WWE for along time and you can tell that just by looking at his SummerSlam record. When he exploded onto the scene as Sable's partner at SummerSlam 1998, we all knew we were looking at something special. Well, after 8 more SummerSlam appearances including 4 title fights, two main events, one grudge match with Matt Hardy, and tons more.....it turns out we were correct!
5) Shawn Michaels
SummerSlam Record: 5-4-1
SummerSlam Appearances:
- vs. Rick Martel & The Fabulous Rougeaus (SummerSlam 1989, Tito Santana & Marty Jannetty were tag partners)
- vs. Power & Glory (SummerSlam 1990, Marty Jannetty was tag team partner)
- vs. Rick Martel (SummerSlam 1992)
- vs. Mr. Perfect - WWE IC Title (SummerSlam 1993)
- vs. Razor Ramon - Ladder Match for IC Title (SummerSlam 1995)
- vs. Vader - WWE Championship (SummerSlam 1996)
- vs. HHH - Street Fight (SummerSlam 2002)
- vs. HHH, Goldberg, Chris Jericho, Randy Orton, & Kevin Nash - Elimination Chamber for World Heavyweight Title (SummerSlam 2003)
- vs. Hulk Hogan (SummerSlam 2005)
- vs. Vince & Shane McMahon (SummerSlam 2006, HHH was tag team partner)
Shawn Michaels is one of the biggest WWE legends of all-time, yet has had a somewhat rocky relationship with the event known as "SummerSlam". His first two SummerSlam's started off with disappointing losses, especially at SummerSlam 1990 when Power & Glory attacked The Rockers before the match started....turning it into a handicap match instead of a tag match. Michaels then decided to part ways with Marty Jannetty and his first foray into SummerSlam as a singles wrestler was a "DON'T HIT IN THE FACE" match with Rick Martel (if I'm lying..I'm dying!). Things FINALLY got on the right track for Michaels following his win over Mr. Perfect at SummerSlam 1993. We then saw HBK wrestle Razor Ramon in a classic ladder match, take a few years off then come back and defeat HHH in an awesome street fight. We were then blessed with a "dream match" between HBK and Hulk Hogan. In the end, Michaels has a less-than-impressive overall SummerSlam record...but the bottom line is this, the man is a legend and one of the best in SummerSlam history.
4) HHH
SummerSlam Record: 7-4
SummerSlam Appearances:
- vs. Bob Holly (SummerSlam 1995)
- vs. Mankind - Steel Cage Match (SummerSlam 1997)
- vs. The Rock - Ladder Match for WWE IC Title (SummerSlam 1998)
- vs. Mankind & Steve Austin - Triple Threat for WWE Championship (SummerSlam 1999)
- vs. The Rock & Kurt Angle - Triple Threat for WWE Championship (SummerSlam 2000)
- vs. Shawn Michaels - Street Fight (SummerSlam 2002)
- vs. Goldberg, Chris Jericho, Kevin Nash, Randy Orton & Shawn Michaels - Elimination Chamber for World Heavyweight Title (SummerSlam 2003)
- vs. Eugene (SummerSlam 2004)
- vs. Vince & Shane McMahon (SummerSlam 2006, Shawn Michaels was tag partner)
- vs. King Booker (SummerSlam 2007)
- vs. The Great Khali - WWE Championship (SummerSlam 2008)
Of course HHH is going to be in the top 5! He's HHH! In all seriousness, HHH has had one of the best SummerSlam careers in WWE history. While it started out lame with a dud against Bob Holly in 1997, things quickly picked up with an excellent steel cage match with Mankind two years later. You think HHH slowed down from there? Then you would be wrong my friend! The man went on to have one of my personal favorite matches against The Rock in 1998 and after that he began to fight for the WWE Championship. If you take out the crap like his match with Khali and Eugene and look back at the great stuff like his street fight with HBK, then you also would believe that SummerSlam is HHH's EVENT......at least in his mind.......
3) Hulk Hogan
SummerSlam Record: 6-0
SummerSlam Appearances:
- vs. Ted DiBiase & Andre The Giant (SummerSlam 1988, Randy Savage was his tag partner)
- vs. Randy Savage & Zeus (SummerSlam 1989, Brutus Beefcake was his tag partner)
- vs. Earthquake (SummerSlam 1990)
- vs. Sgt. Slaughter, Colonel Mustafa, and General Adnan (SummerSlam 1991, Ultimate Warrior was his tag partner)
- vs. Shawn Michaels (SummerSlam 2005)
- vs. Randy Orton (SummerSlam 2006)
Hulk Hogan. The man, the myth, THE LEGEND! While WrestleMania may be his event, many people have passed Hogan as far as it comes to creating memories at SummerSlam. While Hogan is undefeated at the event, he has put on some real stinkers. Don't even get me started on the crap fests that were SummerSlam 1989 and 1991. However, as I mentioned. The man is undefeated at the event and did help put the thing on the map. Plus, his match with Shawn Michaels was pretty damn good so that gets some brownie points as well.
2) The Undertaker
SummerSlam Record: 9-5-1
SummerSlam Appearances:
- vs. Kamala (SummerSlam 1992)
- vs. Giant Gonzalez - "Rest In Peace" Match (SummerSlam 1993)
- vs. "The Undertaker" (SummerSlam 1994)
- vs. Kama - Casket Match (SummerSlam 1995)
- vs. Mankind - Boiler Room Brawl (SummerSlam 1996)
- vs. Bret Hart - WWE Championship (SummerSlam 1997)
- vs. Steve Austin - WWE Championship (SummerSlam 1998)
- vs. X-Pac & Kane - WWE Tag Team Championship (SummerSlam 1999, Big Show was his tag partner)
- vs. Kane (SummerSlam 2000)
- vs. Diamond Dallas Page & Kanyon - Steel Cage Match for WCW Tag Team Titles and WWE Tag Team Titles (SummerSlam 2001, Kane was his tag partner)
- vs. Test (SummerSlam 2002)
- vs. A-Train (SummerSlam 2003)
- vs. John Bradshaw Layfield - WWE Championship (SummerSlam 2004)
- vs. Randy Orton (SummerSlam 2005)
- vs. Edge - Hell in a Cell (SummerSlam 2008)
If I really have to explain to you why the Undertaker is ranked so high, then you shouldn't be reading this column. Just ignore his matches with A-Train, Test, Kamala, Giant Gonzalez, the "fake" Undertaker, and Kama. Man, this man has been in A LOT of horrible feuds hasn't he?
1) Bret Hart
SummerSlam Record: 6-3
SummerSlam Appearances:
- vs. Demolition - WWE Tag Team Championship (SummerSlam 1988, Jim Neidhart was his tag partner)
- vs. The Brain Busters (SummerSlam 1989, Jim Neidhart was his tag partner)
- vs. Demolition - 2/3 Falls Match for WWE Tag Team Championship (SummerSlam 1990, Jim Neidhart was his tag partner)
- vs. Mr. Perfect - WWE IC Title (SummerSlam 1991)
- vs. The British Bulldog - WWE IC Title (SummerSlam 1992)
- vs. Doink the Clown (SummerSlam 1993)
- vs. Owen Hart - Steel Cage Match (SummerSlam 1994)
- vs. Isaac Yankem (SummerSlam 1995)
- vs. The Undertaker - WWE Championship (SummerSlam 1997)
I said last week that I believe that SummerSlam is "Bret Hart's Event" and I must stand behind my words! He has put on many classics at "the biggest event of the Summer". As a kid I enjoyed his tag team bouts with Demolition and the Brain Busters. Then the man jumped into singles action and put on CLASSIC bouts with guys like Mr. Perfect, Undertaker, Owen Hart and of course....the British Bulldog. SummerSlam is truly a HART-tastic event...at least in my book.

Dude! Way too fucking soon! We haven't even been able to joke that much about Benoit or Owen Hart (not that I'm comparing them)

The guy killed himself (but not anyone else). In my book - you can make of someone like that immediately.
Posted By: BobbyC (Guest) on August 15, 2009 at 01:18 AM
any1 else find it just a little bit funny that the event owen hart died at was called "over the edge?" truly a great man, but at least he left us with a little comedy on his way out
Posted By: cerulean (Guest) on August 15, 2009 at 01:28 AM
Why do you hate to agree with Nash? Swallow your damn pride.
Posted By: jyhjhg (Guest) on August 15, 2009 at 01:46 AM
We don't joke about benoit because he od'd. We don't because he killed his wife and child
Posted By: Guest#4917 (Guest) on August 15, 2009 at 02:22 AM
I don't consider it 'funny', except if I go on to finish the term Funny Aneurysm Moment (TvTropes.org's name for when something funny suddenly isn't, like Kevin Sullivan jokes)... but truth be told, I don't have any right to tell you something's not funny, do I? I just don't agree with you, is all.
Although I was reading who was rumored to be Owen's tag partner instead of Yoko at Mania 11, and it was -- I'm sure some people have heard this already -- Lord Voldemort himself, Mister Benoit.
Okay, how utterly mind-blowing is THAT thought? I LITERALLY can NOT imagine wrestling today if that happened, presuming Chris signed long-term. The Kevin Sullivan jokes likely never getting the chance to exist are the VERY least of the differences in the landscape.

Didn't Bret and Austin face off at Summerslam as well? That match was great.
Posted By: Guest#1016 (Guest) on August 15, 2009 at 03:15 AM
Yes the Undertaker has been in alot of crappy feuds....which is why I dont understand why he is so "untouchable" to so many people. Granted, when he is put in the ring with good people, they normally have good matches, but that makes me think it is less of Taker's doing than the other persons. Just a thought....

"any1 else find it just a little bit funny that the event owen hart died at was called "over the edge?" truly a great man, but at least he left us with a little comedy on his way out"
I laughed. I also thought of all the flaming you're likely to receive.

Steev Austin didn't bettle Yokozuna at Summerslam 1996, they fought in the Free For All before the show.
Posted By: RM (Guest) on August 15, 2009 at 05:13 AM
so what was bret harts record at summerslam?
Posted By: prdct (Guest) on August 15, 2009 at 01:03 PM
i thought HBK was undefeated at summerslam until his match with hogan. could be wwe makin a match sound just that more intreaging, icon vs icon, undefeated at ss vs undefeated at ss.

I would REALLY love to find out when this conversation took place, because if I know the ego's of these three men....there's a chance it went down LAST WEEK.

I'm an MMA fan...but I just love these MMA marks like Dustin James, who get all bent out of shape the second somebody questions the longevity of MMA.
Look, the UFC does great on PPV, other than that they don't genertae much revenue. They are miles behind Soccer, football, baseball, basketball, etc.
And as for the shot at boxing, well Floyd Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya make around $20-30 million a fight. Anderson Silva and BJ Penn won't make that in their entire careers. Silva wants Roy Jones as much for the money as for the accomplishment. He would likely see $10-$15 million for Jones, whereas he would need to fight 20 Forrest Griffins to make that in UFC
I hope MMA continues growing and becomes a legitimate mainstream sport, but they are not there and the childish antics of Vince...er..I mean Dana White is not helpful!

Nash and HBK vs HHH and X-Pac? The match would never end because both teams would refuse to lose...
