411’s PPV Roundtable Preview: TNA No Surrender 2009
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 09.18.2009

Welcome, one and all, to the 411 TNA Roundtable! Last month we got Hard Justice as the Main Event Mafia cleaned house. Kurt Angle retained the TNA World Championship against Sting and Matt Morgan, Kevin Nash held onto the Legends Title against Mick Foley, Booker T and Scott Steiner held onto the Tag Team Titles and Samoa Joe defeated Daniels for the X-Division strap. Elsewhere we had Abyss defeat Jethro Holiday, a questionable finish in the Knockouts Title match that saw the belt held up between ODB and Cody Deaner, the British Invasion retain the IWGP Tag Team Championship against Beer Money among other things.

This month, things get heated as we move ever closer to Bound For Glory. The TNA World Title is being defended in a four-way match between the champion Kurt Angle, Sting, AJ Styles and Matt Morgan while we have a Lethal Lockdown match between four of the top tag teams in TNA. Kevin Nash puts his Legends Title on the line to claim Dr. Stevie's bounty by battling Abyss, and Samoa Joe and Daniels meet for the X-Division Title. Plus, the Knockout Tag Team Title tournament concludes, ODB and Deaner battle for the Knockouts Title, and the return of Bobby Lashley to the wrestling ring! Let's get to it, shall we?

Before we do, though, don't forget to bookmark 411Mania for all your entertainment needs, or even make it your home page! And don't forget the Twitters too!

TNA'S OFFICIAL "PLEASE BUY OUR PAY-PER-VIEW" VIDEO:

Not much to the hard-sell video this month…more commercials and Bound For
Glory stuff than No Surrender. That's telling, isn't it?

TNA No Surrender 2009

THE CARD:

Bobby Lashley vs. Rhino

Mathew Sforcina: So what if they held a PPV and nobody cared?

Winner: Bobby Lashley (Gore countered into MMA style choke)

Aaron Hubbard: Big, worthless wrestler than they are pushing and a smaller, decent powerhouse that they are not pushing. Bound For Glory is next month, and the big stars will have bigger pushes. Survey says Lashley will win. Survey also says that this needs to be short.

Winner: Bobby Lashley

Julian Bond:Glad Rhino's a heel now as well cause the man's been in auto-pilot for the longest time. Too bad he'll more than likely get creamed in Lashely's debut here.

Winner: Bobby Lashley

Michael Weyer: Rhino's still capable of decent matches so this should be okay. For winner, pretty obvious as Lashley is the ex WWE castoff ready to get a big push.

Winner: Bobby Lashley

Robert S. Leighty Jr: The final "ECW" champion against the man who was pushed to moon during the rebirth of ECW. This could be a decent power match, and I am interested to see Lashley. The winner seems pretty obvious though.

Winner: Bobby Lashley

Jeremy Thomas: Welcome to the first no-brainer of the card. Let's face it, this one isn't in any doubt; if you aren't sure, just look who's on the poster above. Does anyone really think that Lashley is going to job to a guy who's basically had nothing to do for months? Rhino's a good guy for being the loyal company man in this squash-to-be, but it's all Lashley here.

Winner: Bobby Lashley

411Mania Roundtable Consensus: Bobby Lashley (6-0)

FINALS OF THE KNOCKOUTS TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT
The Beautiful People vs. Sarita and Taylor Wilde

Mathew Sforcina: I mean, it's not like anything IMPORTANT will happen.

Winners and NEW KO Tag Team Champions: Taylor Wilde and Sarita (Sarita pins Moose)

Aaron Hubbard: Thrown together babyface team and thrown together heel team. Bound For Glory is next month, and there has to be an established team holding the titles. Survey says Sarita and Taylor Wilde win. Survey says we also won't care.

Winner: Sarita and Taylor Wilde

Julian Bond:Due to the sad visa issues that cause the awesome Angelia Love to take a leave from TNA, I think that the team of Sarita/Wilde will be an automatic lock for being the first Knockouts Tag Champs here. For some reason in the back of my head, I think that TNA was maybe going to put the straps on the Beatiful People no matter what happened with Love, but I think that they want to play up on the fact that there's more women in the Division other than the same usual combo of Kong, Love, ODB, and Sky we've been seeing for what seems like a year or so now.

Winner and NEW Knockouts Tag Team Champions: Sarita/Wilde

Michael Weyer: I still think it's a crazy idea to give the Knockouts their own tag title when the division needs more strong single workers. Given the events involving Angelina Love, pretty obvious who gets the belts here.

Winner and FIRST Knockouts Tag Team Champions: Sarita and Taylor Wilde

Robert S. Leighty Jr: Nothing too much to talk about here. Was anyone really screaming for a women's tag division?

Winner: Taylor and Sarita

Jeremy Thomas: Call me nutty folks (and you may well do so, multiple times) but I'm parting company with my comrades here. Sarita and Wilde are certainly the better team of wrestlers, and I can see them wanting to wait to put the titles on the Beautiful People until they see if they can get Angelina Love back. However, the fact remains that when you think of Knockout Tag Teams, you think of the Beautiful People. They are the face of this non-existant tag team division, and you want your face of the division to be the inaugural champs. Thus, here you have it.

Winner:The Beautiful People (Rayne pins Wilde; NEW TNA Knockout Tag Team Champions)

411Mania Roundtable Consensus: Taylor Wilde & Sarita (5-1)

TO DECIDE THE TNA KNOCKOUTS CHAMPION
ODC vs. Cody Deaner

Mathew Sforcina: And there's been little in terms of interesting storylines.

Winner, and NEW TNA KO Champion: ODB (Low Blow Roll Up)

Aaron Hubbard: Actually, I'm breaking the format. Screw this crap.

Winner: ODB

Julian Bond: Horribly happy that ODB is FINALLY being given a run with the Knockouts Title after being one of the good solid mainstays in the division since the beginning. But sadden that she has to go against Cody Deaner to do so.

Winner and NEW TNA Knockouts Champion: ODB

Michael Weyer: Given the situation, long past time for ODB to get the belt and should be a fun champion to watch.

Winner and NEW Knockouts Champion: ODB

Robert S. Leighty Jr: So we have a women's tag division, but we have a male figthing for the women's single's title. Yeah!

Winner: ODB

Jeremy Thomas: Fuck Russo. I hate men challenging for the Women's Title, because it's always played for laughs but it's never funny. Remember Oklahoma? Yeah, that was Russo too. Luckily he's grown up a little from that, and so I'm confident (but not as confident as I'd like) in saying the right person goes over here.

Winner: ODB (NEW/STILL TNA Knockouts Champion)

411Mania Roundtable Consensus: ODB (6-0)

$50,000 BOUNTY/TNA LEGENDS TITLE MATCH
Kevin Nash © vs. Abyss

Mathew Sforcina: Putting out good TV only gets you so far.

Winner, and STILL TNA Legend's Champion: Kevin Nash (Jacknife after Traci Flashes Abyss)

Aaron Hubbard: Past his prime big man and masochistic scary big man. Bound For Glory is next month, and most titles will change hands then. Survey says Nash retains. Survey also says this will suck.

Winner: Kevin Nash

Julian Bond: I was initially going with Abyss taking the Legends title here since he's only had gold once in his long stay at TNA. But I see the nice subtle hints they've been dropping for a Abyss/Foley match at BFG next month (crossing fingers on the good ol' Monsters' Ball) and I don't think Abyss actually needs a belt to get over cause he also is horribly. Plus I think that this would be a nice fitting end to the $50,000 bounty storyline.

Winner and STILL TNA Legends Champion: Kevin Nash

Michael Weyer: Thought Abyss a bit but fact is Nash still has it in good with TNA higher-ups and likely they'd wait for BFG to get the belt off him. Abyss should be able to carry it to a fair match but Nash gets the win

Winner and still Legends champion: Kevin Nash

Robert S. Leighty Jr: This could be really ugly, but I think Abyss will bump like a mad man to make this watchable. Nash should keep the title though.

Winner: Kevin Nash

Jeremy Thomas: Again, I have to disagree with my esteemed colleagues here. I think that Abyss lasts a little longer under this bounty thing, and I think he's going to pull out the win against Nash. This will not be a great match but it will be passable, as Nash has been looking motivated these days while Abyss can be quite good when he's in the mood. I don't feel as confident in this out on a limb pick as I am on a few others, but what the hell, you only live once right?

Winner: Abyss (NEW TNA Legends Champion)

411Mania Roundtable Consensus: Kevin Nash (5-1)

TNA X-DIVISION TITLE MATCH
Samoa Joe © vs. Daniels

Mathew Sforcina: You really need to SELL the PPV, not just hold it.

Winner, and STILL TNA X Division Champion: Samoa Joe (Choking A Bitch)

Aaron Hubbard: Big, dominant monster champion who finally seems motivated again and veteran worker who is established as always choking. Bound For Glory is next month, and we need a dominant champion going into the big show. Survey says Samoa Joe retains. Survey also says this will be MOTN.

Winner: Samoa Joe

Julian Bond: Oh...now I see what's TNA's doing with Joe and the X-Division. I like many others were a little bit baffled when Joe, who was World Champ not even a year ago, was once again in the X-Division. But I believe, especially with the announcers and wrestlers, by the constant references to the great past feud between Joe, Daniels and Styles, that TNA's trying (abeit pretty slowly) to once again get the X-Division some prestige by having one of the best champs of this division carry the belt around again. So with this thought, I believe that Joe retains after a pretty good bout with Daniels and hopefully goes on to either a rematch or bigger feud for next month.

Winner and STILL X-Division Champion: Samoa Joe

Michael Weyer: If anything can rebuild the X Division, it's Joe vs Daniels as both guys can do wonders in the ring with each other. The match should be awesome and while I'd love to see Daniels get the belt again, I think TNA is hoping Joe can restore the division to the heights it once had.

Winner and still X-Division Champion: Samoa Joe

Robert S. Leighty Jr: This should be awesome, and hopefully they can live up to their previous encounters. Keeping the title on Joe seems like the best thing for now.

Winner: Samoa Joe

Jeremy Thomas: It's nice to see Daniels and Joe back to battling each other, as they're always in the ring together. That it's another step in re-elevating the X-Division Title doesn't hurt. Of course, we all expect this match to steal the show and well it should, as long as some wacky booking doesn't mar it. I'm okay with a screwjob of some sort and I think we'll see that, as I think a repeat match will happen at Bound For Glory. That means Joe retains and yet Daniels looks strong. Works for me.

Winner: Samoa Joe (STILL TNA X-Division Champion)

411Mania Roundtable Consensus: Samoa Joe (6-0)

LETHAL LOCKDOWN MATCH
Beer Money vs. Team 3D vs. Scott Steiner & Booker T vs. British Invasion

Mathew Sforcina: An idea TNA still can't get a grip on.

Winners: Beer Money (However one wins one of these things)

Aaron Hubbard: Thrown together greatness, tag team legends, thrown together mediocrity, and English semi-threats. Bound For Glory is next month, and the popular babyfaces need momentum. Survey says Beer Money wins. Survey also says this match will be a clusterfuck.

Winner: Beer Money

Julian Bond: Nice build-up of the feud between all four of these teams and pretty cool that we get a possible blow-off here in the Lethal Lockdown. I noticed that Beer Money really haven't been focused on as of late and were getting a very big push a few months back until MEM took the belts from them. So I'll go with them to take the win to start their trip back up to the top.

Winner: Beer Money

Michael Weyer: A really good build-up to this and putting them in a cage should add to the wild brawl. For the actual result, I'll go with Steiner & Booker as they are the top heels to get back on top.

Winner: Steiner & Booker

Robert S. Leighty Jr: This should be all kinds of chaos (in a good way), but giving away a Lethal LockDown match when you have an entire PPV based around it seems like overkill. I mean WCW only gave us War Games at Fall Brawl. The Mafia needs to lose something tonight.

Winner: Beer Money

Jeremy Thomas: Beer Money would make sense as they could use a Pay-Per-View win. Steiner and Booker winning would make sense as it would make the Main Event Mafia look strong. And Team 3D winning would make sense because…well, it's Team 3D, and they should never be counted out. I for one think that TNA is high enough on the British Invasion that they're going to put them over here and give them that super-boost they need. Again, I'm prepared to be totally wrong, but I think that Magnus beats Devon in the midst of some mass chaos to pick up the win.

Winner:British Invasion

411Mania Roundtable Consensus: Beer Money (4-1-1)

FOUR-WAY TNA WORLD TITLE MATCH
Kurt Angle © vs. Matt Morgan vs. Sting vs. AJ Styles

Mathew Sforcina: Shame Really.

Winner, and STILL TNA World Champion: Kurt Angle (Angle Slam on AJ)

Aaron Hubbard: Hmm....an innocent stalker, a big breakout star, the old Christian and the young Christian. Bound For Glory in a month, four-way screams filler. Survey says Angle retains. Survey also says this could be pretty good.

Winner: Kurt Angle

Julian Bond: This is the hardest match to predict here (at least in my opinion) because of the possibly main event for Bound For Glory next month. I am both hoping and predicting that there are going with a Sting vs. Styles match hinting with Sting retiring in his hometown of California, but am not sure if this is going to be for the TNA Title or not. Since Bobby Lashley is finally now wrestling, I think that he may be next in line for the title next month and that Sting vs. Styles will happen minus the title involved. Since I believe that Angle barely retains due to some unexpected help from Morgan (due to "If a guy goes from super-heel to super-face way too fast, then that means he's going to swerve someone" rule!).

Winner and STILL TNA World Champion: Kurt Angle

Michael Weyer: A tough one to figure with all four guys although it promises a great match. Be interesting if they go for a shock and give it to AJ but four guys adds to the potential of a screwy finish. I'll go for the easy choice here and assume Kurt retains, despite his legal troubles.

Winner and still TNA World Champion: Kurt Angle

Robert S. Leighty Jr: This could be interesting because with 4 guys it gives Sting a chance to hit his spots, Morgan to provide the power moves, and let Styles/Angle lead everything else. I am kind of tired of all the multi-man TNA World Title matches, and hopefully that ends at Bound for Glory. No reason to take the title off Angle heading into Bound for Glory however.

Winner: Kurt Angle

Jeremy Thomas: I'd love to say AJ wins here and it's Styles vs. Sting, title vs. career for Bound For Glory. However, I think it makes more sense for Angle to retain. This should actually be pretty good, and I expect all four men to get some good periods of offense in before Morgan takes out Sting and AJ knocks Morgan over the ropes, allowing Angle to sneak up and hit the Angle Slam for the pinfall.

Winner: Kurt Angle (Angle Slam on AJ Styles; STILL TNA World Champion)

411Mania Roundtable Consensus: Kurt Angle (6-0)

There you have it folks. And now for the monthly Roundtable awards…the 411Mania staff's sure pick of the show and anyone's game match!

Sure Pick of the Show: Angle over Styles, Sting & Morgan; Joe over Daniels; ODB over Cody Deaner and Lashley over Rhino (6-0)
Anyone's Game: Beer Money over the British Invasion, Steiner & Booker T and Team 3D (4-1-1)

And of course...the standings Year-to-Date! Hard Justice was a good Pay-Per-View for yours truly and Larry, with each of us getting 7 out of 9 correct. How did that change the standings?

Mathew Sforcina: 7 of 9 (77.78%)
Larry Csonka: 18 of 25 (72.00%)
Jeremy Thomas: 18 of 25 (72.00%)
Andy Clark: 16 of 25 (64.00%)
Michael Weyer: 16 of 25 (64.00%)
Julian Bond: 15 of 25 (60.00%)
Chris Lansdell: 9 of 16 (56.25%)
John Peters: 5 of 9 (55.56%)

Sforcina's still in the lead, with Lord Csonka and I nipping at his heels! We're still early in the game too, so anything can happen!

And, of course, don't forget to join us Sunday night for LIVE coverage starting at 7:30 pm!

Sforcina is a idiot, I hate when people who obviously don't care about the product at all post meaningless comments on this roundtable previews. I know to each his own opinion, but the dude crapped all over the entire event.

Sforcina.. brief and to the point. That's all kinds of awesome right there.

Let's play spot the petty WWE fanboy. Mathew Sforcina! YES! What do I win?

Posted By: Stephen Bayne (Guest)  on September 19, 2009 at 02:08 AM

stupid.

Sforcina is calling it as it. Why should we care about a company that seemly doesn't care about itself?

Matthew wins the "I'll act better than this, but I'm not, I'm really not, I'm actually a shitknob" prize.

Why should he care? I don't know... maybe cause it's his JOB?

Couldn't agree more with Sforcina's picks...or his comments. No buzz leading up to this one, it's all about the wait for BFG.

You know whats funny? Even though Scforcina is throwing shit all over TNA he still have the highest score on the top predictions.

That video is hilarious. Bobby "The Boss" Lashley. God of thunder!

Oklahoma was challenging Medusa for the Cruiserweight title, not the womens title. WCW didn't have a womens title at that point. Not that it makes it any less Russo-riffic

Bravo Mr Sfocina. Perfect analysis of every TNA PPV except BFG and Slammiversary.

Have any of the people shitting on TNA even watched it the last month or more. It's been the best wrestling on TV. I'm not a TNA or WWE guys, I feel Smackdown was the best show for a good 5 months, but recently TNA has had a change of direction for the WAYYYY better.

I mean aaron Hubbard reffered to the beautfiul people as a thrown together heel team? Thrown together? It's been a year and a half, they have a better build as a tag team than almost any tag team period.

Yes this ppv will be predictable. It should be, it's the ppv going into their biggest of the year. You mean to tell me No Way Out isn't predictable? This will advance the main event angles nicely and put everything into position for a good Bound for Glory. If you don't like the last month of TNA than stop watching wrestling.

Hey Sforcina!

Seriously, if you don't care about the PPV, that's fine.. but then STFU and DON'T do a roundtable!

"You mean to tell me No Way Out isn't predictable?"

Uh yea, cause No Way Out isn't predictable.

NWO 2009:Edge is eliminated first in the WWE Title Elimination Chamber, despite being the favorite of the match. Later in the night, Edge interrupts arguably the most predictable match of the PPV, the WHC EC match, eventually going on to win the match and the title.

NWO 2008:Big Show returns to WWE only to have his nose broken by Floyd Mayweather.

NWO 2007: Kane defeats King Booker

NWO 2007: Chavo Guerrero wins the Cruiserweight Title, despite not being picked at all to win by the Roundtable.

NWO 2006: JBL defeats Bobby Lashley.

NWO 2005:(Then) Raw Superstar Batista appears at No Way Out, A SmackDown PPV at the time.

NWO 2005:Big Show chokeslams JBL through the ring.

NWO 2003: The Rock takes on Hulk Hogan on a non- big four PPV.

Oh yea, No Way Out is sooooo predictable.

EPIC FAIL FOR YOU!

Hey idiots... he's complaining that they aren't selling the PPV well enough. Not that TNA sucks or that the PPV isn't appealing... he's blaming TNA for not doing a good job or marketing, and he's right there. If you aren't a TNA fan, you're not learning about this PPV at all. And even if you are an avid viewer, they aren't pushing this event hard enough at all. They're totally concerned about Bound For Glory next month and nothing else. It's a shame.

Posted By: Dan (Guest)  on September 19, 2009 at 08:56 PM

Ummm...Angle WON'T win because he's facing Bobby Lashley next month. That match doesn't need a title. AJ wins and Sting puts his career on the line for the shot.

Posted By: IWC (Guest)  on September 19, 2009 at 09:05 PM

I can't imagine Angle losing the title tonight, wouldn't that make BFG very melodramatic? For the MEM angle to end Kurt has to be champ going in, thats why the MEM has all the(men's) championships.

Posted By: JWestmoreland (Guest)  on September 20, 2009 at 12:05 AM

Why should mathew try to sell the PPV to you guys when TNA cant even sell it to our audience

Posted By: Marco (Guest)  on September 20, 2009 at 02:21 AM

Love your work, Sforcina.

Posted By: AngryTas (Guest)  on September 20, 2009 at 12:44 PM

I like the idea of AJ v Sting - Title v Career next Month at BFG. But how do we get there tonight? Perhaps we see a Morgan swerve mid-match, and he tries to help Angle, but AJ kicks out. Morgan and Sting end up outside the ring while AJ takes down Angle..Sting has the option of breaking up the pin or preventing Morgan from doing so..he takes out Morgan and assists AJ. After the match, Sting and AJ shake hands and Sting asks for a favor as we go off air..
