Match A Day 9.30.09: Week 24 - ROH Injustice II
Posted by Jake Chambers on 09.30.2009

Previously on Match A Day:

-Jake Chambers swore off watching Pro-Wrestling in regular continuity following the continual letdown of television and pay-per-view, finally culminating at the super lame Wrestlemania 25.

-taking a break from reading websites, backstage gossip, and taping and live results, Jake decided to only watch ONE match a day of old matches and international wrestling, while following the American continuity on delay, buying DVDs and borrowing tapes a few months in advance, inspired by the way in which he usually followed Ring of Honor.

-then "Jake" (not his real name) had a breakdown and now he's not as much of as smart ass as he used to be! Me, I'm his girlfriend Katie (you'll know it's me talking when you see this beautiful red font) and I have to take care of him 24/7 now, and just to keep him happy I let him watch one match a day and write out his rambling, moronic thoughts, which I then copy edit into something decent… You're welcome :P

-at our tiny apartment in cramped Seoul, a couple of super annoying coo-ing pigeons nested on the window next to ours and a stupid new dog was started barking at the crack of dawn, and it was keeping me up all night and day like a lunatic while my dopey boyfriend slept right through it. Anyways, I killed the pigeons and the dog disappeared, so now I'm less frazzled and back to my regular sleeping pattern!

And now MAD Week 24 begins...

[All Matches are from ROH Injustice II, January 2009]

Match #157 – Sunday, September 6th
Brent Albright vs. Rhett Titus

What am I watching here? This is some match! Hardly worth my time. Ring of Honor seems to be adding a lot of throwaway matches onto their DVDs these days. Brent Albright is good, I like him, but talk about a guy who has been spinning his wheels!

And Rhett Titus. C'mon, we're supposed to believe that this guy is a ladies man? I mean, let's be serious here, Rick Martel, Rick Rude, Shawn Michaels, those guys I could accept, but Titus? It's an insult to my intelligence.

(just so you know, I left that last one in there to show you just how alarmingly close "Jake" was to regaining his faculties! If you paid attention last week then it probably looked like Jake was starting to figure out that wrestling is fake! Of course, I had been preoccupied the past couple of weeks with a pigeon problem, but that's done with and now my attention is back to my wonderful boyfriend and his ailing health. Couldn't have him coming back so soon now, could I, because that would mean he'd return to his lame little fantasies about leaving me, and worst of all, the insurance checks would stop coming in and I'd have to go back to work! Can't have that, so I took care of the problem. Now, back to your regularly scheduled, dumbed down Jake Chambers column!)

Match #158 – Monday, September 7th
Four Corner Survival: Necro Butcher vs. Damien Wayne vs. Delirious vs. Sean Denny

Strange character! That's Delirious for you! You think he's a rule breaker and a blind follower of the Age of the Fall, but then he comes out and wrestlers a clean match and gets a big win! I think he's a bit confused, and he shouldn't be feuding with Necro Butcher, but teaming with him to take down Jimmy Jacobs' anarchist faction!

Speaking of Necro, you might be wondering why he didn't win? Of course, he's so tough, she should win every match he's in, right! Well, he didn't lose but was on the receiving end of an amazing, over the top rope, flying leg drop by Damien Wayne! That move should get Damien permanently on the ROH roster, and get Necro a ticket to the Tylenol jar for one more night! Boo-Yah!

Match #159 – Tuesday, September 8th
Three Way Match: Austin Aries vs. Jay Briscoe vs. Jimmy Jacobs

Three way? No way! More like a handicap match in my book! Austin Aries gave a big speech before this match, talking bad about the fans, saying how much he hates Tyler Black and how he won't wrestle for anyone but himself anymore. Sound selfish, well then you'd be right! He's even willing to team up with Jimmy, his former worst enemy, in order to beat up fan favorites like Tyler and Jay Briscoe! What a turncoat!

But there is no one better at taking on two guys than the incredible Jay Briscoe! As a tag team wrestler, Jay is used to fighting two guys at once! And guess who ends up winning! If you said the moustached Austin, you'd be sadly mistaken, as Jay Briscoe wows the audience again!

Match #160 – Wednesday, September 9th
Lumberjack Strap Match: American Wolves vs. Erick Stevens & Roderick Strong

Strap-on the action! All the lumberjacks (for those who don't know, that means wrestlers who surround the ring and attack anyone in the match who falls to the floor) in this match were carrying belts! I wouldn't want to fall into the crowd in this one, as even a good guy like Roderick Strong got whipped when he was out of the ring!

Of course, even with this stipulation, the American Wolves and their super-jerky manager Larry Sweeney broke the rules to get the victory thanks to a chair! Can't blame the referee for missing that though, as there was complete mayhem around ringside throughout the match! They really need multiple officials for a match like this, or officials in a booth, like in the NFL, who can review the end of the play. Because the way I see it, Erick Stevens got unfairly hit by a chair and yet he has to take home the losers end of the match money. So sad.

Match #161 – Thursday, September 10th
Grizzly Redwood vs. Chris Escobar

It's Bison season! As much as I'd love to watch the antics of the lovable little lumberjack, Grizzly, this match didn't get too far once it was interrupted by newcomer Bison Smith, who is about 7 times bigger than poor Grizzly who was chopped down by this monster! What are Bison's intentions? Why is he just interrupting in the middle of matches? If he wants a job in ROH, I doubt that this is the way to go about getting one!

Match #162 – Friday, September 11th
Jerry Lynn vs. Bryan Danielson

Human chess! That's the best way to describe this rematch from the exceptional, hold-for-hold encounter between these two classy, sportsman at All Star Extravaganza IV. I didn't think they could top the skill and maneuvers from that match, but looks like they proved me wrong! To try to recap all of the moves in this one would be like trying to rewrite the Bible using crayons after finishing off an entire large pizza! The series between these two evened up as soon as Jerry hit his patented Cradle Piledriver, a move that no one has ever kicked out from! This rivalry will be Ov-aH once we get a tie-breaker match! Coming soon, I hope!

Match #163 – Saturday, September 12th
ROH Title Match: Nigel McGuiness vs. Tyler Black

Absolute Epic! I felt like I just read a long novel, or watched a four-hour war movie, or a Michael Jackson video! This match went to the time limit and was very dramatic! At one point Nigel tried to quit, but Bryan Danielson threatened him to get back in, and then all the wrestlers from the previous matches rushed the ring and all out mayhem occurred! Danielson had to be the one to coral everyone to the back!

Tyler hurt his back when he fell out of the ring at one point, and the officials tried to escort him to the back but he wouldn't quit. In both cases, this match got a bit confusing, but thankfully it continued on!

What also continued was the very annoying commentary by the one-sided, Dave Prazak. This guy is just absolutely, blindly in-love with Nigel McGuiness and totally supports all of his short cuts in the match, and keeps berating Tyler for being unable to win or do anything good! His partner Lenny Leonard is a true professional, unbiased broadcaster, but I have to wonder why they keep that partial Prazak around?

Well, both of them had differing opinions in the end, as the real time of the match seemed to be a few minutes short of the supposed 60-minute time limit. Lenny claimed it was fishy, while the completely unreliable Dave said that the ringing of the bell, just a millisecond before Tyler was about to cover Nigel for a guaranteed win, was legit. All I know is that I was exhausted, but oh I would have loved five more minutes for the fantastic Tyler Black to wrest that title away from the undeserving Nigel McGuiness!

----

Did you see all those amazing ROH photos! They all come from this awesome photographer Scott Finkelstein and his incredible website, so check it out!

Did you ever hear about this band called GWAR? I think we all need to be very afraid of these guys! They're monsters! Real monsters!! Let's hope they never get bored of making great music like this, right 411music reviewer Jesse Coy

Seriously? That's either the worst attempt at humor I've ever seen...

Chungles, I agree with your views on this column, however I think your means of expressing your displeasure with it are misguided. I think the best bet for everyone at this point is to just ignore it and hope that like the advertising monsters that came to life and terrorized Springfield on the old Halloween episode of the Simpsons if you don't pay any attention to it, it will just go away. Every week this gimmick column gets single digit comments 90% o which are negative. I suggest we don't even humor him with that and hopefully Mr. Chambers will realize he's only entertaining himself and revert to providing some legitimate insight and commentary as opposed to this.
