411 PPV Preview: The Road to TNA Turning Point 2009
Posted by Shawn S. Lealos on 11.13.2009

Welcome to the TNA Preview for Turning Point 2009. I am Shawn S. Lealos and you have entered my world.

TNA TURNING POINT 2009
November 15, 2009
Orlando, FL

Notable Events from Bound For Glory

  • 2004 - This was the event that Elix Skipper hit the hurricanrana from the top of the Six Sides of Steel on Chris Harris. The eventual result of the match was the disbanding of Triple X.

  • 2005 - Samoa Joe won the X-Division Championship from A.J. Styles when he made Styles pass out. Chris Daniels ran down to save Styles.

  • 2006 - Abyss pinned Sting in a World Championship title defense that also included Christian.

  • 2006 - Samoa Joe made Kurt Angle tap out.

  • 2007 - The Beautiful People beat ODB and Roxxi Laveaux.

  • 2007 - This is the year that Chris Daniels got a Feast or Fired briefcase and was fired as a result.

  • 2007 - It is also the event that Scott Hall no-showed, leading to Joe's shoot.

  • 2008 - Eric Young defeated 9 other wrestlers to become the number one contender to the X-Division belt.

  • 2008 - Beer Money successfully defended their World Tag Team Championship against the Motor City Machine Guns.

  • 2008 - Sting beat A.J. Styles in a World Championship Match.

  • 2008 - Christian Cage's last match in TNA was this loss to Booker T.

  • Trivia

  • Wrestlers to appear at every Turning Point card to date: Robert Roode (did not wrestle in 2006, but was in Traci's corner), Eric Young, Abyss, Chris Sabin, A.J. Styles, James Storm.

  • Eric Young is undefeated at Turning Point (6-0), including being part of the Main Event in 2007 when Scott Hall no-showed.

  • Everyone talks about it being about time the MCMG get a PPV title match, but they got one this time last year as well.

  • This was Christian's last PPV card in 2008, as he was beaten up and left for dead by the Main Event Mafia on the next Impact and left for ECW

  • There was no World Championship match on the 2004 or 2006 PPV.

  • This will be the third time Samoa Joe and A.J. Styles will fight at Turning Point. It is also the second year in a row Styles is in the World Championship Match.

  • Hulk Hogan has signed with TNA, but his role is still being debated. On the 11.05.09 show, Dixie Carter tells the wrestlers to either support her decisions or they can leave (kind of like WCW said when they lost Raven, Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero?)

  • Eric Young may have been scheduled to fight Kevin Nash here but Nash has been suspended. This is the first year Young will not be on this card.

  • Raven returned on the last card to throw a fireball at Mick Foley and join up with old friend Stevie Richards. This is another feud not included on this PPV.

  • And now on to this year's card...

    The Card

  • TNA World Title Match: AJ Styles © vs. Samoa Joe vs. Daniels

  • TNA Tag Team Title Match: The British Invasion © vs. The Motor City Machineguns

  • X-Division Title Match: Amazing Red © vs. Homicide

  • All Knockouts Titles On The Line: Sarita and Taylor Wilde © and ODB © vs. The Beautiful People

  • Six Sides Of Steel: Tara vs. Awesome Kong

  • Kurt Angle vs. Desmond Wolfe

  • Bobby Lashley vs. Scott Steiner

  • Team 3D, Rhino and D'Angelo Dinero vs. Team 3D and Rhino

  • Team 3D and Rhino vs. Matt Morgan, Hernandez and Pope D'Angelo Dinero

BOUND FOR GLORY RESULTS - Team 3D won the IWGP titles back but lost the TNA titles thanks to Rhino, Matt Morgan lost to Kurt Angle in a great match. Dinero no showed due to a personal emergency. Hernandez lost in the Legends Title match but was not pinned.
10.22.09 - Rhino comes out and tries to convince Kurt Angle that management is trying to get rid of the older wrestlers. Team 3D comes out pissed that Rhino cost them the TNA Tag Team Championship but Rhino says he is right. Morgan pins Scott Steiner. Hernandez beats Rhino but Rhino jumps him after the match. Hernandez tries to border toss Rhino from the ring but Team 3D talk him out of it.
10.29.09 - Rhino continues to try to convince Team 3D of a conspiracy against them. Matt Morgan beat Rhino but Rhino gets some payback after the match.
11.05.09 - Rhino is still working on Team 3D. In an interview Morgan and Hernandez says there is no conspiracy. Morgan and Hernandez fought Team 3D and when they started working on Devon's injured leg, Ray finally took a chair from Rhino and laid out both of his opponents for the DQ finish.
11.12.09 - Team 3D and Rhino came to the ring and called out Hernandez and Morgan. They came out and said Team 3D isn't allowed to call them out anymore and they need to come find them from here out. Team 3D and Rhino challenge Morgan and Hernandez to find a partner for a PPV match. D'Angelo Dinero comes out and says if Team 3D wants to hold anyone down, that includes him and he will be the partner.

My Prediction: This is leading to something big. Rhino has been right about everything he has said, or so it seems. I think this is going to end up proving there is a conspiracy against the older guys and Desmond Wolfe is a part of it too. Because of that, I see Rhino taking the pinfall (or submission) here and making them even more paranoid. Maybe it will even be a fast count.

    Bobby Lashley vs. Scott Steiner

BOUND FOR GLORY RESULTS - Bobby Lashley beat Samoa Joe in a submission match while Scott Steiner & Booker T lost the tag team belts.
10.22.09 - Scott Steiner seems to be the only member left in the Main Event Mafia and actually still uses their locker room. He fights Matt "Mike" Morgan and leaves the match to hit on Kristal Lashley. This brings out Bobby Lashley who kicks the crap out of Steiner and throws him back into the ring to lose to Morgan.
10.29.09 - Bobby Lashley fought Eric Young for the Legend's Championship and won by DQ when Steiner ran in and hit Lashley with a chair and then put him in the Steiner Recliner.
11.05.09 - Bobby Lashley is keeping Krystal with him for protection but Earl Hebner doesn't care and sends her to the back anyway. Not good. Lashley destroys Homicide but after the match he sees Steiner on the big screen grab Kristal and carry her off. Lashley catches them and kicks Steiner's ass.
11.12.09 - Bobby Lashley left his wife at the hotel for her safety, but unfortunately Scott Steiner was at the hotel and not the Impact Zone. When Lashley got there to save her, it was a setup and Steiner beat the hell out of him.

My Prediction: Scott Steiner has done a great job building this feud but Bobby Lashley isn't going to lose for quite awhile.

    Kurt Angle vs. Desmond Wolfe

BOUND FOR GLORY RESULTS - Kurt Angle beat Matt Morgan in a great match.
10.22.09 - Kurt Angle comes to the ring to open the show and is suddenly a FACE. He talks about how great the talent in the locker room is and basically ends the Main Event Mafia right here. In the back, Angle is being interviewed when Desmond "Nigel McGuinness" Wolfe introduces himself and then beats up Angle. Angle goes to the ring and calls out Wolfe. Wolfe answers the challenge and hits the Tower of London and as the show ends Wolfe stands tall.
10.29.09 - Desmond Wolfe opens the show and introduces himself to the crowd. Angle comes out and challenges Wolfe and the match will be a street fight. That match ends when Wolfe hits his Lariat and Angle is stretchered out.
11.05.09 - Desmond Wolfe destroys Cody Deaner with a BIG ASS lariat. He then accepts Angle's challenge for Turning Point.
11.12.09 - Kurt Angle came to the ring and said he is going to end Wolfe's career. Wolfe is on the tron and says that he is going to take Angle's spot in TNA but it is a prerecorded video and Wolfe attacks from behind. Angle fights back until Wolfe hits a hard DDT on the floor and then lays out Angle with a chair shot.

My Prediction: Desmond Wolfe is going to kill Kurt Angle in this match. It will be a great bout and Angle will make sure Wolfe looks like a million bucks, making the former Nigel McGuinness a star. My prediction is Wolfe will take Angle out and then go on a winning streak until Angle finally makes his comeback a couple of months down the line. This is the match that will catapult Wolfe to main event status.

Six Sides Of Steel: Tara vs. Awesome Kong

BOUND FOR GLORY RESULTS - Tara left the title match and Kong lost thanks to Saeed.
    10.22.09 - Kong kills Saeed.
10.29.09 - Tara pins Alyssa Flash but Kong comes to the ring and kills her. Kong later tries to kill more Knockouts but Tara attacks her from behind.
11.05.09 - Tara pins Hamada and then Kong comes out and they fight. Tara announces they will fight in the Six Sides of Steel.
11.12.09 - Awesome Kong teamed with The Beautiful People and pinned Taylor Wilde in the eight-man match that included Tara.

My Prediction: This feud has been built old school style. I have felt they needed to be on a PPV for a couple of months now and, after last month's title match, they finally get a one-on-one match in a cage. I think Kong will win this match but it is a 50/50 chance.

All Knockouts Titles On The Line: Sarita and Taylor Wilde © and ODB © vs. The Beautiful People

BOUND FOR GLORY RESULTS - Taylor Wilde and Sarita easily beat The Beautiful People. ODB beat Kong and Tara when Tara left the match and Saeed accidentally screws up interference.
10.22.09 - The Beautiful People ambush Wilde and Sarita and beat them up.
10.29.09 - The Beautiful People beat ODB, Hamada and Christy Hemme when Lacey Von Erich pinned Hemme.
11.05.09 - The Beautiful People ambush and beat up ODB. Later Taylor Wilde beats Madison Rayne but the Beautiful People attack her after the match. It takes both Sarita and ODB to stop the onslaught.
11.12.09 - All six girls fought in an eight man match with Tara and Awesome Kong and Taylor ate the pinfall at the hands of Kong.

My Prediction: The good guys are clearly the better wrestlers in this match but The Beautiful People have been eating pins for a little too long. I think this is the time that they take the belts. This group is much better as champions than challengers and it is more interesting to see people like Taylor and Sarita chasing for the belts than holding them.

X-Division Title Match: Amazing Red © vs. Homicide

BOUND FOR GLORY RESULTS - Amazing Red won the Ultimate X to retain his championship.
10.22.09 - Homicide pinned Amazing Red to earn a future title match.
10.29.09 - Nothing happens. Red and Don West are interviewed on Hermie's Hot Seat
11.05.09 - Homicide loses to Lashley and then bullies Earl Hebner. Red runs in for the save.
11.12.09 - Red and Homicide were in a six-man X-Division match against each other. Homicide was removed by security for bringing in a barbed wire bat and Red's team won.

My Prediction: Red should win this match. I'm not a real big fan of the direction they are taking Homicide. Let him be hardcore or don't, but having security take him out and suspending him is really not helping his character at all.

TNA Tag Team Title Match: The British Invasion © vs. The Motor City Machineguns vs. Beer Money

BOUND FOR GLORY RESULTS - The British Invasion won the TNA belts, while losing their IWGP belts in a 4-way match. The Motor City Machine Guns fought in the preliminary match and then were inserted into the Ultimate X that Red won.
10.22.09 - The Motor City Machine Guns beat Lethal Consequences in an Ultimate X Match to become the number one contenders. Following that, Beer Money gets "one last chance" for the tag team belts but only win by DQ. This seems to mark the end of Lethal Consequences as well.
10.29.09 - The Motor City Machine Guns beat Team 3D. The match is important for two reasons: (1) Devon didn't actually tap out but the ref called for the bell anyway, starting the questions of whether someone is out to run the veterans out of TNA and (2) this is the match where Sabin got dropped on his head, hurting his neck, which pissed of Kevin Nash who shot about it to the crowd and got suspended as a result. Meanwhile, the British Invasion are suspended until Turning Point for hitting the referee at Bound For Glory.
11.05.09 - The British Invasion attack Beer Money but are chased off by security. When they reach the top of the ramp, The MCMG attacks them and have to be pulled off.
11.12.09 - The Motor City Machine Guns teamed with Red to beat World Elite (Homicide, Kiyoshi, Bashir) when Shelley pinned Kiyoshi. Beer Money requested a challenge to fight The British Invasion tonight and it was granted. Eric Young says it is a moral victory because The British Invasion get off their suspension early as a result. Beer Money won a spot in the PPV title match by beating The Brits.

My Prediction: I really want The Motor City Machine Guns to win, and they deserve a title run, but they won't get it here. The British Invasion have been making Beer Money's life hell for too long. While I want to see the MCMG win, I can live with Beer Money taking the belts here.

TNA World Title Match: AJ Styles © vs. Samoa Joe vs. Daniels

BOUND FOR GLORY RESULTS - A.J. Styles beat Sting to retain his belt while Daniels lost in the Ultimate X match and Joe lost to Lashley in a submission match.
10.22.09 - Even though both Daniels and Joe lost at Bound For Glory, they are given a World Championship match. This is done for the sole reason of trying to recapture the magic from when the three fought at Unbreakable in 2005. On this card, Styles and Daniels lose to Joe and Kevin Nash when Nash pins Daniels. Backstage, someone jumps Styles.
10.29.09 - Samoa Joe tells Styles he should consider that Daniels jumped him last week. Daniels denies it but Styles is not completely sold. Daniels tells Joe to stop spreading lies. Styles is jumped again and is taken to the hospital.
11.05.09 - A.J. Styles opens the show and says he supports the signing of Hulk Hogan. Then he calls out whoever has been jumping him and Chris Daniels comes out. Daniels is not here to confess but instead wants to know why Styles thinks it was him since they are friends. The two have an argument where Daniels seems jealous and Styles seems arrogant. Then Joe comes out and stirs the pot causing Daniels to challenge Styles to a match with Joe as the referee. Before their match, while Joe and Daniels stood in the ring, Styles was attacked again backstage. They fight anyway later in the card and Styles pins Daniels only for Joe to lay him out and stand tall.
11.12.09 - Styles apologized for doubting Daniels but says they are not on the same page and almost seems to be blaming Daniels for their problems. Daniels does not trust Styles, either. Joe and Styles fights in the main event. Daniels comes to the ring and Styles slaps him, but as a result turns his back on Joe and gets locked in the rear naked chose and taps. Before Joe locked it in, he smiles and winks at Daniels and then after the match, Daniels stands outside the ring smiling as Joe stands tall.

My Prediction: I don't see Daniels winning this match although he is long overdue for a championship run. This comes down to Joe and Styles. I don't think it is time to take the belt off Styles, though. WIth Hulk Hogan in town, I see Joe being the man more likely to carry the company but I think Styles hangs on here.

I agree with most of your predictions, although I don't see The British Invasion losing the straps just yet. I'd guess The Invasion pins Beer Money, they do MCMGs -vs- British Invasion next month, and then in January Beer Money takes the straps back from the Invasion.

And I do cringe at the thought of Von Erich holding Gold, so I hope they don't win. I have no problem with Madison and Velvet being Tag Champs, and with a little more build could buy into Madison being singles champ, but Lacey being any kind of Champ is scary. They need a fourth member of Beautiful People, so Lacy can just be the "enforcer"/mouthpiece. Bring back Rain, have her be the fourth, and you have three members who can atleast work a match.

Just DO NOT put any gold on Von Erich. It took TNA long enough to cut Rhaka Khan, they basically bring in another one just like her. She has been awful in everything so far and isn't even good in the talking segments. It's so sad that one of the most interesting and engaging female characters in wrestling Angelina Love is gone and is replaced by a girl who WWE cut for not being crap.

Why in the hell does everyone think it's time for TBP to win these titles? There will never be a right time for Lacey Von Erich to win a title. She is horrible in all aspects of pro-wrestling. The sooner TNA can get Love back and dump Von Erich, the better we will all be.

TNA World Title Match: AJ Styles © vs. Samoa Joe vs. Daniels

--This ones seems almost too predicatbale as it seems like TNA is going for the quick pay off and more than likely Tomko comes out and beats down whomever wins, more than likely AJ, Unless they want to go full swerve and have Joe and AJ become friends and have Daniels behind the Tomko attacks, that would work too.

TNA Tag Team Title Match: The British Invasion © vs. The Motor City Machineguns

--With the addition of Beer Money I think that means Invasion keeps the title and we have a small rivalry beteen MCMG and Beer Money and Invasion jobs to someone in the near future that Hogan has hand picked.

X-Division Title Match: Amazing Red © vs. Homicide

    --Red wins. Homicide wants out.

All Knockouts Titles On The Line: Sarita and Taylor Wilde © and ODB © vs. The Beautiful People

--Never a big fan of someone walking into a company and getting instant belts. Sarita had one good singles match and suddenly was a tag team champ with another singles wrestler with a modest backgroud. TNA has too many good female wrestlers to have this. Now the KOs arent good wrestlers but at least they have an identity, so having them cheat and steal and whore themselves for wins and holding the belts is good drama and lets them face other legit talent. Obviously they need soemone who can help carry the action because eventually watching them get carried will play out, no matter how hot they are. Would like to see them win here and go back to what worked...KOs punk people weekly. So basically agree with you.

Six Sides Of Steel: Tara vs. Awesome Kong

--Kong kills bitches dead. Since it isn't for a belt Tara loses.

    Kurt Angle vs. Desmond Wolfe

--Double count out or DQ? I expect this to be the diappointment of the night for some reason. Maybe an early spotfest with some conclusion that pisses everyone off, after all they can't be too good or it will destroy the 'main event' for this PPV. If Angles legal troubles hadnt gone away I could have agreed with what you said, but I cant see Angle getting completely beat down again, too anti climactic.

    Bobby Lashley vs. Scott Steiner

--Who cares? This fued can't even be saved with some of Stieners good one liners "your baby has my eyes". That line I think will be better than the match. Lashley wins because Stiener is too old to be someone who beat the undefeated MMA and TNA star.

Team 3D, Rhino and D'Angelo Dinero vs. Team 3D and Rhino

--Sort of agree with you, but I can't see it being Desmond Wolf he can't be involved in so many storylines. Could be Hogan and a reverse swerve and Hogan wanting to push new talent and bringing up old grudges with 3D and the obligatory WWF comments for sure. But young guys winning has better future.

So what's WWE going to call their best of TNA DVD?

    - The Rise(?) and Fall of TNA?

    - The Self Destruction of TNA?

    - TNA: We hardly knew ye?

    - TNA: WTF were you thinking Dixie?

    - TNA: We're sorry Jeff?

    - TNA: Thank you Angle and Hogan?

    - TNA: What the hell was TNA?

Three years and you will see ROH: The Punk Years.

You are right. It was 2007 that didn't have the title match.
