411 PPV Preview: The Road to Genesis 2010
Posted by Shawn S. Lealos on 01.16.2010

Welcome to the TNA Preview for TNA GENESIS 2010. I am Shawn S. Lealos and you have entered my world. It's a new era for TNA Wrestling and the first noticable difference is Desmond Wolfe defeating Samoa Joe for the right to be shocwcased on the TNA PPV Preview banner!

TNA GENESIS 2010
January 17, 2010
Orlando, Florida

Notable Events from Genesis

  • 2005 - Christian Cage made his debut on this card

  • 2005 - Monty Brown beat Jeff Hardy to become the number one contender to the World Championship

  • 2005 - A.J. Styles defended his X-Division Championship against Petey Williams

  • 2006 - Christopher Daniels defended his X-Division Championship against Chris Sabin

  • 2006 - Christian Cage defeated A.J. Styles

  • 2006 - LAX defended their Tag Team Championship against America's Most Wanted

  • 2006 - Abyss won the NWA World Championship from Sting by DQ (NWA rule)

  • 2006 - Kurt Angle beat Samoa Joe

  • 2007 - A.J. Styles and Tomko defended their Tag Team Championship against the Steiner Brothers.

  • 2007 - Kurt Angle and Kevin Nash defeated Sting and Booker T

  • 2009 - Kurt Angle defeated Jeff Jarrett

  • Notes

  • Wrestlers to compete at every Genesis card to date: Robert Roode, Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, Abyss, A.J. Styles.

  • On the day of the first Genesis Pay-Per-View, Eddie Guerrero died. Many wrestlers paid tribute to him in their matches.

  • Nigel McGuinness (Desmond Wolfe) fought in a dark match in 2005, losing to Shark Boy.

  • The TNA Pay-Per-View schedule was changed in 2008 and Genesis was moved to January 2009, meaning the was no Genesis PPV in 2008.

  • This will be the second year in a row that Samoa Joe will not fight on the Genesis PPV, which is strange since he earned the World Championship shot at the last PPV.

  • This will be the first year Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley will not fight at Genesis.

  • A new talent acquisition will be introduced at Genesis. If it is a surprise, I believe it will be Kennedy. If it is a disappointment, it might be Jeff Hardy actually signing with the company.

  • Because there was no Impact on Christmas Eve and only a women's tournament on New Year's Eve, there were only two episodes of Impact to set up Genesis, and one of those was the introduction of Hulk Hogan and company.

  • And now on to this year's card...

    The Card

  • The Pope vs. Desmond Wolfe

  • Sean Morley vs. Daniels

  • TNA X-DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP - Amazing Red vs. (to be announced that night)

  • TNA KNOCKOUTS CHAMPIONSHIP - 2 OUT OF 3 FALLS - ODB (champion) vs. Tara

  • TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - The British Invasion (champs) vs. "The Blueprint" Matt Morgan and Hernandez

  • "The Monster" Abyss vs. "The Boss" Bobby Lashley

  • Beer Money, Inc. vs. Kevin Nash and Scott Hall

  • TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH - KURT'S ANGLE LAST SHOT AT AJ STYLE'S WORLD TITLE IN 2010 - AJ Styles (champion) vs. Kurt Angle

  • The Pope vs. Desmond Wolfe

Final Resolution Results - The Pope was on the winning team in a six man match while Desmond Wolfe lost to Kurt Angle 2-1 in a great "Three Degrees of Pain" match.
    12.31.09 - nothing.
01.04.10 - The Pope surprises everyone with an upset victory over Desmond Wolfe.
01.14.10 - Desmond Wolfe beats Samoa Joe cleanly and tells Pope if he can beat Joe, he can beat The Pope.

My Prediction: I think Desmond Wolfe wins here for one reason. They keep asking The Pope about Orlando Jordan, so that has to be a feud they have planned and maybe Jordan interferes here to help Wolfe grab the win.

    Sean Morley vs. Daniels

Final Resolution Results - Christopher Daniels lost to A.J. Styles in a great World Championship match.
    12.31.09 - nothing.
01.04.10 - Sean Morley makes his first appearance by joining a strip poker game with The Beautiful People.
01.14.10 - Sean Morley comes out and talks nonsense about being a director and producer now instead of acting and wanting to start TNA Films. Daniels comes out, humors him and then kicks the crap out of him. Morley gets some heat back.

My Prediction: The Christopher Daniels / Sean Morley stuff is confusing. Daniels is someone the fans want to cheer as he fights the former WWE guy but he told them to shut up, making me think Morley is supposed to be the good guy here. Weird. Now, I love Sean Morley and think the guy is a great addition to the roster. He was used horribly in the WWE and is someone who can really go. With that said, there is no way Daniels can come off that awesome world title match last month and not go over here. Winner: Daniels.

TNA X-DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP - Amazing Red vs. (to be announced that night)

Final Resolution Results - There was no X-Division Championship on the card, or really an X-Division match at all.
    12.31.09 - nothing.
01.04.10 - Amazing Red was part of the Steel Asylum which SUCKED! Oh, and Jeff Hardy showed up.
    01.14.10 - nothing.

My Prediction: This is stupid. Where are the X-Division guys? Why has Red not been seen in anything except the Asylum match in over a month? Where is Eric Young and his title belt? What the hell is going on here? I don't know. I do think the debuting superstar is going to be in this match and will win the title from Red. Who thinks it's going to be a disappointment and be Jeff Hardy? Of course, it might be Ken Anderson coming out to do his spill and then I still see either Hardy or Shannon Moore as the surprise opponent.

TNA KNOCKOUTS CHAMPIONSHIP - 2 OUT OF 3 FALLS - ODB (champion) vs. Tara

Final Resolution Results - Tara beat ODB in a HORRIBLE match to win the title.
12.31.09 - New Years Eve presented a tournament to crown a new number one contender, which was won by ODB (beat Tracy Brooks, Awesome Kong and Hamada).
01.04.10 - ODB beats Tara for the title in another BAD match. Tara held the belt for 15 days and had one title defense. Nice.
    01.14.10 - nothing.

My Prediction: These two stunk up the joint in their last two matches, so they now get a 2/3 falls match. That is stupid. I don't know who wins and no longer care. Let's go with Tara because she has name value to Hogan..

TNA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - The British Invasion (champs) vs. "The Blueprint" Matt Morgan and Hernandez

Final Resolution Results - The British Invasion beat The Motor City Machine Guns in a title defense. Morgan and Hernandez teamed with The Pope to beat Team 3D and Jesse Neal.
    12.31.09 - nothing.
01.04.10 - Matt Morgan and Hernandez KILL Dr. Stevie and Raven to earn a number one contender's spot for the Tag Team Championship.
01.14.10 - Morgan and Hernandez beat Beer Money by DQ when Rob Terry interfered.

My Prediction: This is stupid. There has been no sign of The British Invasion (or their manager Eric Young) since the PPV. Yet, they are the tag team champions. That alone tells me they are not seen as very important right now, so the titles are changing hands here. Winners: Morgan and Hernandez.

"The Monster" Abyss vs. "The Boss" Bobby Lashley

Final Resolution Results - Bobby Lashley beat Scott Steiner and is still the number one contender to the World Championship, although no one mentions it anymore. Abyss teamed with Mick Foley to beat Dr. Stevie and Raven.
    12.31.09 - nothing.
01.04.10 - Number One Contender Bobby Lashley wants out of his contract, so says his wife. She even demands a meeting with Hulk Hogan but Eric Bischoff shrugs her off. Meanwhile, Samoa Joe makes Abyss tap out in their match.
01.14.10 - Bobby Lashley kills Lethal Consequences and his wife says they will continue to hurt TNA wrestlers until Lashley gets his meeting with Hogan. Instead of a meeting, Lashley gets a match at Genesis with Abyss.

My Prediction: I am confused. If they want to punish Bobby Lashley for threatening to quit, shouldn't they put him against maybe Samoa Joe, since Joe beat Abyss last week? And what about Lashley's Number One Contender status? And what about the interviews with Lashley and Dixie Carter about how the two of them were going to take TNA to the next level? This is all so confusing. Lashley wins here.

Beer Money, Inc. vs. Kevin Nash and Scott Hall

Final Resolution Results - Roode, Storm and Nash were in the Feast or Fired match. Nash earned a tag team title shot (with Hall maybe??)
    12.31.09 - nothing.
01.04.10 - Scott Hall and Sean Waltman have to buy tickets to get in. They climb the rails during Hulk Hogan's introduction address. Hulk Hogan is not too happy to see them, causing Kevin Nash to come on down. Nash is not happy and then Bischoff comes in and says that all three will have to earn their spots. They try to do so by jumping people backstage (including Beer Money) and finish off by beating down Mick Foley.
01.14.10 - Beer Money demand a match with The Outsiders (now called The Band) and Eric Bischoff says he will think about it. Beer Money then lost by DQ to Hernandez and Matt Morgan. After the match, The Band (Hall, Nash, Waltman) attacked and beat them up until Bischoff came out and called off the dogs. Bischoff granted the match for Genesis.

My Prediction: No way Beer Money lose this match. I want to see what kind of fighting shape Hall is in, and have my doubts it is anything better than "horribly out of shape." Beer Money has to win here, although don't be surprised to see Big Kev cash in his tag title briefcase sometime soon.

TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH - KURT'S ANGLE LAST SHOT AT AJ STYLE'S WORLD TITLE IN 2010 - AJ Styles (champion) vs. Kurt Angle

Final Resolution Results - Kurt Angle beat Desmond Wolfe in a "Three Degrees of Pain" match and Styles beat Christopher Daniels in the two best matches of the PPV.
    12.31.09 - nothing.
01.04.10 - Eric Bischoff books A.J. Styles and Kurt Angle for this Impact. Styles beats Angle in a spectacular match. By the way, it looks like Ric Flair is mentoring A.J. Styles.
01.14.10 - Hulk Hogan books the rematch at Genesis. After Styles and Angle face off the masked man attacks again. It is finally revealed at Tomko and Eric Bischoff books a match between Styles and Tomko for the title that night. Styles wins the match. After it ends, Tomko goes on the attack and Angle makes the save. Styles refuses to shake hands and Ric Flair approves!

My Prediction: Kurt Angle or A.J. Styles. Either man can be a great champion. This is the last time Angle gets a title match in 2010, so that moves the momentum to Angle. Bischoff says he loves Styles, so that evens it back out again. I think Styles wins but where does that leave Angle to go from here?

You're right. This PPV is stupid. I am going to go out on a limb here, and predict...7,000 PPV buys

You do know Mr. Anderson will debut on the show and screw Aj (I hope) out of his title.

Hogan is just bringing his Australia tour with him to TNA, and at last check Mr. Anderson was on there as well.

It's Angle's last title shot in 2010 against AJ. Not of the year.

On one hand it could be just
    a one match show

on the other we could get three or four good matches. Angle/AJ is an obvious match of the year contender.

There really doing Aj vs. Kurt again? I just saw it for free, and the PPV match will either a.) be worse, or b.) have an interference to make it different.

I hate to say this, but Amazing Red is a terrible champion. Yeah, he does cool stuff, but doesn't have the charisma to back it up. Unless Don West becomes a more prominent manager, Red has nothing, and Hulk said, if you can't work and you can't talk, you're out, so I don't see him otherwise letting Red keep the strap.

I hope they're not planning on turning AJ heel...

This is the most accurate preview of a TNA I have ever read. Just zero build all across the board, and it just amazes me the thinking (or lack thereof) on TNA's promotion.

How do you watch the guy perform against Angle and say shit like this? Do you just not want TNA to succeed?

Posted By: Guest#5014 (Guest)  on January 16, 2010 at 04:17 AM

I find it hard to imagine who would buy this.

Horrible...horrible card. If TNA doesn't care about this PPV, why the hell should I?

AJ-Angle is the only match that interests me. Although I hope they dont make it a spotfest and kick out of eachothers finishers a dozen times again.

I like Nigel (Desmond), Daniels and Beer Money, but i just dont care for their opponents. Maybe they should've buildup those matches more so people would care.

Terrible terrible terrible use of Desmond Wolfe, he and Kurt Angle are both on the same outstanding technical level and Wolfe should be involved in the world title matches soon or his talent will go unnoticed.
Also wtf is wrong with the Global title? Is it just a title with name or what? Haven't seen Eric Young nor his boys for quite some time and with Homicide's assault on Kyoshi during Steel Asylum where does it leave them?
Back when Russo was doing the booking the shit was strange but since Hogan and Bischoff took over it looks even more ridiculous.

I like all the quick facts in the preview. It's too bad Shelley and Sabin might not continue their perfect attendance at this event

Bubba the love sponge/guru sucks. He should be fired for his comments. I am the true Bubba. The Dog who's head was once used to make kindling (small pieces of wood used to start fires). I am the true Bubba, long live my soul. Genesis will only be good if Bubba is fired, and then I am the true Bubba. Anybody wanna bash some wood on my head to make some kindling? Come on I have a thick skull.

OK there is zero build. I agree with that. But at least it's not a typical WWE/TNA PPV where you know the outcome 3 weeks beforehand. At least there is a lot of unpredictability here. I'd order it but 24 is on for free.
