411’s Wrestler of the Week 4.12.10: Week 2

April 12, 2010 | Posted by Daniel Bonnizzio

Welcome to Week 2, Year SIX, of 411’s Wrestler of the Week. A quick overview of the rules to kick things off for us as a reminder…

Each writer chooses FIVE wrestlers from any promotion and each wrestler gets a point total attached to that ranking. It looks a little like this…

1st – 5
2nd – 4
3rd – 3
4th – 2
5th – 1

If you are wondering how some of the writers decide who to vote for, please check out our Wrestler of the Week Supplemental Column!

Then we tally up the votes and the official 411 Wrestler of the Week is crowned. But wait, there’s more! Each week the top SIX vote getters get a points value for their ranking which looks something like this…

1st – 15
2nd – 12
3rd – 9
4th – 6
5th – 3
6th – 1

…and they go towards the 411 Wrestler of the Year award to be announced each year at WrestleMania. This will be posted every Monday. Let’s see who wins this week…

The Voting~!

Jeremy Thomas
1) Madison Eagles
I don’t care what anyone has to say about “Indies mean nothing,” when you end the reign of the most dominant female wrestler in the last several years–And yes, I include Kong in that because who pinned Kong in Volume 28?–then you’ve done something major. This is a huge win for Eagles and the eyes of female wrestlers everywhere have turned to her. Add in the fact that she beat Sassy Stephie and then (in the match that put her in the title match) Cheerleader Melissa, Madison had the biggest boost to her career without a doubt. In a week where not many other people did a lot to boost their careers, Eagles is the clear winner to me.

2) Mr. Anderson: Anderson wins a ladder match in what was probably the free TV match of the week, and gets some momentum heading toward LockDown. Can’t argue with that.
3) Randy Orton: Orton looked good and was hugely over with the crowd as he beat the new World Heavyweight Champion in a non-title bout. The man’s momentum is off the charts right now; they just need to find something to do with him.
4) Cheerleader Melissa & MsChif (tie)
5) Angelina Love

1) Madison Eagles
Madison Eagles is the one to finally defeat MsChif to become the third SHIMMER champion. Eagles is a great worker that not many know about, due to her being from Australia, but since coming to SHIMMER, she has been consistently great and was a surprising, but great choice to take the helm as SHIMMER champion.

2) Mr. Anderson: Defeated Kurt Angle in a pretty good ladder match on Impact last week.
3) Randy Orton: Defeated new World Champion jack Swagger with the RKO on Raw last week.
4) Ted DiBiase w/MILLION DOLLAR FN BELT
5) Angelina Love

MsChif was running on a near 2-year streak as the reigning SHIMMER Champion, but after SHIMMER 31, that changed as Madison Eagles beat her to become the new SHIMMER Champion.

2) Mr. Anderson: Mr Anderson (ANDERSON) beat Kurt Angle in what was surely the TV Match of the Week to get some great momentum heading into their Lockdown match.
3) Randy Orton: Mr Orton managed to get some GREAT momentum headed his way by pinning the new World Heavyweight Champion on Smackdown.
4) Ted DiBiase
5) Edge/ Chris Jericho

Samuel Berman
1) Madison Eagles
Defeated MsChif to win the SHIMMER Championship.

2) Matt & Nick Jackson: Retained the PWG World Tag Team Titles over the Briscoes.
3) Davey Richards: Bested longtime rival Roderick Strong to retain the PWG World Title.
4) Mr. Anderson
5) Randy Orton

Jasper Gerretsen
1) Madison Eagles
I’ll have to admit, if I were to make a list of women who stood the best chance to unseat MsChif, she wouldn’t even be in the top five. That just makes her win all the more huge though, and I can’t wait to see where she’ll go from here.

2) The Young Bucks: They’re on a great tear as PWG’s top heels, and got a win over one of the top teams on the independent scene this weekend.
3) Mr. Anderson: Sure, the ladder stipulation added absolutely nothing, but he still beat Kurt Angle and is going into Lockdown with the advantage.
4) Davey Richards
5) Randy Orton

1) Madison Eagles
Winning the most meaningful women’s wrestling title normally is good while having a 3-0 weekend. But defeating MsChif, who has dominated like nobody else for the past year plus, makes this an easy #1 pick. And yes, SHIMMER’s title is more meaningful than the Knockouts Title or an WWE Women’s Championship.

2) Randy Orton: Orton is on a serious roll as he defeats Swagger for the second straight week.
3) The Young Bucks: Broke PWG’s record for Tag Title defenses by beating the Briscoes.
4) Chris Jericho/Edge (tie)
5) Drew McIntyre

Chad Nevett
1) Madison Eagles
Wow, I didn’t think anyone was going to defeat MsChif for the title in Shimmer given how dominant she’s been. Major win.

2) Young Bucks: Retained the PWG tag titles against the Briscoes.
3) Davey Richards: Retained the PWG world title against Roderick Strong.
4) Drew McIntyre
5) Randy Orton

Shawn S. Lealos
1) Randy Orton
The guy is on freaking fire. This week, he once again pinned The All-American-American-American Jack Swagger, this time meaning more since Swagger is the World Champion. Who else things Swagger is going to hold this title until the draft and then end up on the same show as Orton. I also like how Randy isn’t talking to the fans and just lets them cheer him for who he fights.

2) Mr. Anderson: He beat Kurt Angle in a ladder match to gain an advantage or their upcoming PPV steel cage match.
3) Ted DiBiase: Love Ted bringing out the Million Dollar Belt. Also love that he got a clean win over Christian, the guy needs it to build any credibility.
4) Douglass Williams
5) David Otunga
