Mil Mascaras says “No!” to CMLL

Mil Mascaras is synonymous with Lucha-Libre, he’s a legend not just in Mexico, but also in Japan and somewhat in the U.S. Mil Mascaras recently had an interview with ivpressonline.com where he revealed that CMLL had offered him a spot in the Homenaje a Dos Leyendas event. Mil Mascaras declined the spot in the event, that’s not what makes this newsworthy; his reasoning is what makes this newsworthy! In the interview Mil Mascaras said the following:

“Yo luché mucho tiempo en la Arena México, ahora soy una estrella, y la gente de la empresa (CMLL) me quería meter en una Semifinal y eso no pude ser, no saben respetar las trayectorias y la historia de hombres como yo, por eso no acepté.

“Deben de darse cuenta quién soy, no pueden darme una lucha abajo de la estelar, no soy respaldo de nadie. Los luchadores como yo si no nos damos nuestro lugar y hacemos respetar nuestra carrera, luego nos van mandar a las primeras”

Translated it says the following; mind you I’m not a professional translator!

“I wrestled a long time in Arena Mexico, now I’m a star, and the people in the company want to put me in a Semifinal match, and that can’t be! They don’t know how to respect trajectories *careers* and the history of men like me, that is why I did not accept.

They need to know who I am, they can’t give me a match below the main event. I’m nobody’s backboard. Luchadores like myself, if we don’t have our place and we make them respect our careers, then they will send us to the opening cards.”

WOW! I get it Mil Mascaras, you’re a big deal! We can’t take that away from you, but you need to understand that you can’t put on the type of match that you used to! Sure Mil Mascaras can still draw, but as a special attraction! There is no way he can handle a normal schedule, in my mind anyways. So why take away from the legends that are barely being made? It’s horrible to see legends who just can’t accept their place anymore, and even still refuse to let new legends be born. Then again this shouldn’t come as a surprise seeing as how Mil Mascara has always allegedly had a huge ego.

2 Years without Abismo Negro

March 22, 2009 was the date that the world of Lucha-Libre suffered a huge loss. Abismo Negro, an iconic AAA star passed away. Abismo Negro was one of the top rudos in AAA, he is more commonly known as a member and one time leader of Los Vipers. One of the more popular members of AAA’s roster, his nickname El Rey del Martinete was rightfully earned. One of his more infamous moments was when he nearly delivered a Martinete to the original Blue Demon to the shock of many. To say Abismo Negro is missed would be an understatement.

AAA News 03/21/2011

Rey de Reyes has come and gone now the road to Triplemania 19 begins! The first AAA show after Rey de Reyes had some surprises. To start the show Angelico, Argenis and Fenix opened the show with Dark Dragon, Polvo de Estrellas and Tito Santana. Angelico, Fenix and Argenis taking the win in the opening match.

Konnan and members of la Sociedad arrived to the ring and Konnan stated that La Milicia has yet to make any sort of impact, even allowing a mole, Billy Boy into their ranks. Konnan believed the failures of la Milicia had to do with their leadership, so Deccnis the leader of La Milicia was demoted. Konnan appointed Super Fly as the new leader; he also demanded that La Milicia produce some results.

Following the change in leadership, La Milicia members Alan Stone, Tigre Cota, and Deccnis defeated Dark Cuervo, Dark Ozz and El Elegido. Although Konnan did help out with an assist it looks like the change in leadership might yield some results.

Then again maybe not, former teammates of Super Fly Aerostar and Laredo Kid took on Chris Stone and Super Fly, the Technicos took the win this time when Laredo Kid pinned Super Fly.

The AAA Tag-Team Champions Los Maniacos: Silver King and Ultimo Gladiador put their titles on the line against Jack Evans and the 2011 Rey de Reyes Extreme Tiger. The shock of the night definitely came to this match seeing as how Los Maniacos were pinned and Jack Evans and Extreme Tiger took the AAA Tag-Team Titles for themselves!

Los Bizarros were in action when Cibernetico, Escoria and Charly Manson face Dark Espiritu, La Parka and Joe Lider. Escoria was still hesitant towards Dark Espiritu, but in the end Cibernetico issued orders and Escoria had to follow. Los Bizarros took the win and members of the Black Family ran in to aid Dark Espiritu, La Parka went on to proclaim to Cibernetico that things were far from over.

The main event of the show was one hell of a brawl when El Mesias and Dr. Wagner Jr. battled L.A. ParK and Damian 666, the team of Dr. Wagner Jr. and El Mesias won the match but not the war, after pinning Damian 666 with a Wagner Driver, L.A. ParK smashed a chair over el Mesias’s head, then proceeded to drop him in a Martinete. La Parka and the Black Family ran in for the save but it was too late.

Pequeño Olimpico’s first successful defense 03/20/2011

Pequeño Olimpico achieved a career high after he defeated Bam Bam and won the CMLL World Minis Championship. Bam Bam had a near two year reign, Pequeño Olimpico has a long way to achieve that type of success but he did have his first successful title defense on Sunday. Virgo was given a shot at the title at CMLL’s 03/20/2011 show, and unfortunately Pequeño Olimpico was too much for Virgo to handle.

La Gran Alternativa 2011 03/25/2011

The first block of La Gran Alternativa tournament was underway and yielded some surprising results. Now for those not in the know, La Gran Alternativa is a tag tournament that has a lucha veteran teaming up with an up and comer. By doing so the rookie is displayed in a new light and the winner is usually someone CMLL has high hopes for. Past winners include Mistico when he teamed with El Hijo del Santo, Negro Casas and a young Hector Garza, as well as Atlantis and La Mascara. On March 25, 2011 the first tournament block went underway; the winners of the first block were Ultimo Guerrero and Escorpion. The favorites to win the tournament were Brazo de Plata and Magnus, who many are billing as the Mistico replacement. The other favorite was La Sombra and his partner Diamante. The full results are below.

Black Warrior made his return to a CMLL ring after an absence of over a year; unfortunately his return wasn’t as spectacular as he would have wanted, as his team consisting of Mascara Dorada and Rush won via DQ against the team of Averno, Mephisto, and Japanese up and comer Goto.

1) Bengala, Leono WIN OVER Camorra, Semental
2) Dark Angel, Goya Kong, Marcela WIN OVER Princes Sugey, Mima Shimoda, Amapola
3) Block A: La Gran Alternativa 2011
a. Mr. Niebla, Hijo del Signo WIN OVER Blue Panther, Angel de Plata

d. Terrible, Mortiz WIN OVER Toscano, Rey Cometa
e. La Sombra, Diamante WIN OVER Mr. Niebla, Hijo del Signo
f. Ultimo Guerrero, Escorpion WIN OVER Terrible, Mortiz
g. Final BLOCK A: Ultimo Guerrero, Escorpion WIN OVER La Sombra, Diamante
4) Rush, Mascara Dorada, Black Warrior WIN VIA DQ OVER Averno, Mephisto, Goto

La Voz/The Voice

One of my favorite columns every week. Keep up the good work.

Good to know there is still people reading it! Even if it’s only two!

Wow Perfect Timing. I believe Psicosis vs Rey Misterio Jr is Lucha Libre’s Muhammed Ali vs Joe Fraizer or Marco Antonio Barrera vs Eric Morales. I have a feeling Santo vs Black Shadow or Santo vs Blue Demon is gonna top this list instead of my choice of El Hijo del Santo y Octagon vs La Pareja del Terror

Posted By: laparkinator (Guest)

Wow, Ali vs. Frazier, yeah, I think I will respectfully disagree with you regarding that, while Psicosis and Rey are a great rivalry, I still have to go with Demon and Santo as the Ali Frazier of Lucha. Ah yes, all three that you mentioned are indeed in the list, the question is which one will be number one!

My Top 10 Lucha Feuds/Matches

The List so far:
10. L.A. ParK VS. El Dandy: Box Y Lucha 2004 Match of the Year
09. Blue Panther VS. Villano V, The Ola Lagunera and Villano Saga
08. Rey Mysterio Jr. VS. Psicosis, The World Tour
07. Villanos Vs Los Brazos, The Unmasking of a Dynasty

Wow I believe I’ve made clear my dislike for some of los Brazos, not all of them mind you! Not including this match would be unfair due to the significant historical impact this match has on the long history of Lucha-Libre. I’m sure we’ve all heard the story, yet there is also a significant backstory that many aren’t aware of. The building up to this match is simple; you have the sons of Shadito Cruz, los Brazos, and the sons of Ray Mendoza, los Villanos. Two dynasties that would face off like a Lucha version of the Hatfields and McCoys. The stage was set and the match was signed and took place on the 21st of October of 1988. On that date for the very first time 3 legendary masks fell all at once.
Now mind you the following is the video of the match and some interviews and signings before it, but the quality of the video is lacking. Legend has it that only two tapings of the match were ever made, one by a fan-cam which is what I’m posting here, and one that Villano I had recorded, but that video is incredibly hard to come by, either way, enjoy!

Ke Monito Signing Off!

FR: Oh man, Ke Monito what did you think of that Brazos and Villanos match?
Ke Monito: It’s a sight to see, especially seeing Brazo de Plata move like that, but the quality sucks, I have homemade porn that looks like the Wachowski’s filmed it compared to this!
FR: Really? I…..um…….yeah, let’s just call it a week.
