After the match though, Astral asked Pierrothito for a shot at the Mexican National Lightheavyweight Title.

Horuz had been promoted as revealing a new look for himself that consisted and paid homage to his grandfather, the great Angel Blanco. Horuz teamed up with Robin to take on the team of Cholo and Bronco. This ended being a very one sided match due to Cholo getting injured during the first moments of the match. Obviously Bronco could not handle the situation and Robin and Horuz came out victorious. Cholo was taken to the hospital with apparent ligament damage to his left knee.

La Gran Alternativa Block B was decided and the winners were Mascara Dorada and Metal Blanco. By winning Block B Mascara Dorada and Metal Blanco now go to the finals to face Ultimo Guerrero and Escorpion.

AAA News

Slow week for AAA, the biggest news from the company is easily that Triplemania 19 has a set date, that date being June 18, 2011. This is the exact same date as the previous year, except instead of falling on a Sunday, it falls on a Saturday. Will AAA be able to top last years Triplemania, which consisted of the L.A. ParK and La Parka match? Who knows, but my prediction for the main event has to be the immensely over L.A. ParK finally facing Zorro for the AAA Megachampionship, with L.A. ParK coming out on top. You heard it here first!

Lucha Poster of the Week

La Voz/The Voice

Full agreement with everything said about Abismo Negro, one of my favorite Luchadores ever! He was one of, if not the main reason I followed Lucha during that time.

Definitely Abismo Negro was just plain great, his Viper era was some great Lucha moments. Unfortunately his final years were not as memorable, a lot having to do with his alleged issues with “demons”.

Yeah, Mil has always had an unrealistically high opinion of himself. In Foley’s first book he mentions how Mil brought in to WCW as a special attraction but treated everyone else like they were beneath him despite not being much of a draw in the States.

Posted By: Guest#0316 (Guest)

I remember reading that in Foley’s book, I would imagine that Mil at the time thought he was up against some jobber. While Foley at the time was not a jobber, he also wasn’t a main eventer. What was more shocking to me was Superstar Billy Graham’s claim that when he faced Mil Mascaras, at the time that he was the WWWF champion, Mil Mascaras apparently had an issue selling. Wow!

Just watched the Rey de Reyes 2011 Final video. Other than a great match I noticed they get pretty awesome music! I guess they dont need to worry about music copywrite in mexico like they do in WWE?

To be honest with you I don’t know how it works, La Parka and L.A. ParK have been coming out to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” for the longest damn time. If any song would cause an uproar due to copyrights it would be that one!

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the positive comments.

I just want to say that it’s really nice to have a Lucha Libre Column on 411. Event though i’m not that much into it.

Posted By: Malte (Guest)

Definitely glad to provide some coverage to the site, it’s pretty hard to come by some Lucha exposure in a lot of sights, so every little bit helps to get the word out. I’m just glad people actually read this.

Mil Mascaras is quite possibly the most egotistical luchador in the history of lucha libre. He’s the Mexican Hulk Hogan. I can’t take anything he says seriously.

Posted By: Guest#4664 (Guest)

Well he’s up their among the top ego’s, but I think El Hijo del Santo is closing in on him.

The Gran Alternative results seem to indicate they might already have given up on Magnus.

Posted By: Guest#9423 (Guest)

It appears that way. While allegedly being Mistico’s cousin might help his cause in the end Magnus might have been too green. The last I heard was that there is possibility that a tournament will be held to find a new Mistico.

Mil mascaras is a good wrestler but wow what an ego

Posted By: Pedro Expulsado (Guest)

You said it, while Mil Mascaras is credited as the one to expose Lucha in Japan and the States, his ego has grown to mythic proportions.

Thank you kind sir for the great reads every week. I am teaching myself spanish and you post every week helps me see what I’ve learned and retained. And of course learning about great wrestling from south or the boarder is always a plus for me. I can’t wait to work there someday. The US indys aren’t quite as interesting to work as the lucha companies seem to be.

Posted By: Guest#9822 (Guest)

That’s great to hear, good to know this column can be entertaining and educational! The only thing about Mexican indys is that there are a ton of them!

Has there ever been any feud as international as Rey Misterio vs Psicosis also. Also Can you tell me more about Los Bizzaros contra La Parka because I thought Los Bizzaros were technicos but i recently saw an episode of AAA and they beat down La Parka and put a Bizzaro mask on him.

Posted By: laparkinator (Guest)

Not any feud that I can think of! As far as the Bizarros situation it goes like this. Los Bizarros were introduced as a 3rd side in La Sociedad VS. AAA war. They were a whole new side altogether, facing both sides. Making them not Rudos or Technicos! The issue with La Parka started when Cibernetico stated that his godson, La Parka’s son was a bad kid, Cibernetico had to discipline him and got a little out of hand. Providing some X-rays as proof. This was the start of the feud.

My Top 10 Lucha Feuds/Matches

The List so far:
10. L.A. ParK VS. El Dandy: Box Y Lucha 2004 Match of the Year
09. Blue Panther VS. Villano V, The Ola Lagunera and Villano Saga
08. Rey Mysterio Jr. VS. Psicosis, The World Tour
07. Villanos Vs Los Brazos, The Unmasking of a Dynasty
06. El Perro Aguayo’s Quest for Masks

El Perro Aguayo is without a doubt the most famous non-masked luchador ever. Nicknamed El Can de Nochistlan, Perro lived up to his name! One of his most famous battles was in the 70’s, where he set his eyes on the ultimate prize at the time, the mask of El Santo! In a famous brawl, which I unfortunately was unable to locate a video for, Perro Aguayo and El Santo had one of the bloodiest brawls ever, the fans who attended could not believe their eyes, many thought El Santo’s time had finally come. Santo eventually won the match taking el Perro Aguayo’s hair. El Perro Aguayo would defeat el Santo on other occasions, but never being able to take his mask!

Perro Aguayo would later set his eyes on the mask of el Veneno Verde, Fishman. While the two would be fierce rivals and would exchange victories, El Perro Aguayo was also never able to unmask Fishman. While Perro Aguayo had attained many top prizes in the world of Lucha, it seemed like he was 0 and 2 when it came to big masks.

El Perro Aguayo’s quest for masks would ultimately pay off when he took on arguably AAA’s biggest star of the 90’s Konnan. The match was heavily promoted all over the place. Konnan was fast becoming a huge name. El Perro Aguayo and Konnan built up an intense rivalry that eventually ended in a Hair Vs. Mask match.
