El Hijo del Perro Aguayo Update

We have an update on el Hijo del Perro Aguayo’s condition thanks to another Perros del Mal press release. Apparently the tumor that was removed from Perro Jr. was not malignant, he is still going to receive a years’ worth of chemotherapy just to clear out any residue from the tumor. He was also given the ok to go back into the ring once his wound heals up. According to some reports Perro Jr. will also be making his AAA return on the 30th of April. Also we should expect another press conference around that time.

Wow that was fast! Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to hear that Perro Jr. is out of harms way and will be returning to the ring, I just didn’t expect it to be this fast. Although I’m not the best person with medical knowledge, most of it I get from re-runs of Dr. House, well at least it wasn’t Lupus.

Rain Drops Keep Falling on My Head

For a few weeks now, AAA had been promoting that something big would happen at their April 17, 2011 show. Well the date came and went and something big did indeed happen, a big freaking rainstorm. The show had to be cancelled due to rain, according to Superluchas it’s only the 2nd time that has ever happened to AAA. While the big reveal didn’t take place, the show was at least rescheduled for April 20, 2011. This fortunately enough, did take place without any issues.

AAA News

Something big was supposed to happen at this show, while many believed it to be the return of a Gronda, not exactly GrondXXX or Gronda 2, maybe a new Gronda, instead it was someone completely different.

Now in the early goings of the show Dr. Wagner Jr. came out and demanded the new guy to come out, instead Tito Santana from La Milicia appeared and relayed a message sent by Konnan. Tito proceeded to slap Wagner, infuriating the Dr. who then laid out Tito with a Wagner Driver. He stated that he would also take out the new guy if he wasn’t with AAA.

The big reveal was a new Luchadore named Drako who looks like he was taken out of a Mortal Kombat game. He joined up with Joe Lider and La Parka to take a win over Bizarro members Charly Manson, Cibernetico and Escoria. Dorian Roldan and Konnan attempted to recruit Drako, their attempts were met with a dropkick to Konnan and a dive on Milicia members.

The main event saw Perros del Mal members Damian 666, Halloween, Hijo de Lizmark and X-Fly take the win over Dr. Wagner Jr. and the Psycho Circus. Wagner Jr. came out with a getup that was half Wagner and half Psycho Circus. A low blow led to the downfall for the Technicos, a beatdown ensued and Drako, La Parka and Joe Lider ran in for the save.

La Voz/The Voice

Hi Man,

This is my favorite column here. Very informative for people who don’t watch lucha libre or who speaks spanish. I like to watch mexican matches and certainly they’re lot more entertaining than your run of the mill us style ‘entertainment’ matches.

Obviously you would (or should) have been following Alberto Del Rio (aka Dos Caras Jr.)’s run in WWE. I have become a huge fan of him after hearing his promos in passable english and excellent face reactions.. I’ve never thought a guy for mexico would have that much charisma under him.

My question is this.. can you list the top 10 charismatic luchadores or top 10 promos in lucha history?? i’ve grown fond of lucha after watching nacho libre, some santo horror movies, rey mysterio, lwo and alberto del rio.

once again, awesome job man. keep the good work.

Posted By: Rama Narayanan (Guest)

Thanks for the support! Although my personal preference is obviously Lucha, I won’t knock the U.S. style, sometimes there is some damn good psychology, then again sometimes it’s just “Meh”.

Oh definitely, Alberto Del Rio just oozes charisma and just naturally has “it”. I hate to say it, but we are being shown a side that many of us didn’t even imagine Del Rio had!

Here is the thing, I can list a top ten charismatic luchadores based solely on opinion, I don’t know if I would do it much justice though! Promos I wouldn’t even know where to start. Lucha promos usually consist of “I’m better than you” followed by “I want your mask/hair/title”. There really isn’t much to it unfortunately. I’ll leave that as a side project but it will have to be a wait and see situation. First things first though, the Feuds/Matches list isn’t even done.

IWRG really IS the best promotion no one watches. Lots of really talented, hungry youngsters, with plenty of still able-bodied veterans to work with them and teach them the ropes. Great stuff.

I totally agree, although the occasionally el Hijo del Solitario or el Hijo de Anibal appearances tend to sneak in. I think what you mentioned is the best part, hungry young luchadores with able veterans who are willing to help better the young guys.

No problem with Mil not signing the “pirata” mask, remember, pro athlete, they sign what is there perogative, happens in all sports.

What can I say, everyone has their own opinion regarding this.

Let’s say Vince had a special one-time WWEHOF ceremony to induct a class comprised solely of Luchadores. The idea is to get the cream of the crop to represent mexican wrestling history. Who would you include in that class?

Posted By: Antonio (Guest)

A who’s who of Hall of Fame potential, better yet, I think this would work better as a list, don’t any of you agree? Wait for it, it’s coming!

My pick still has a chance to be the number 1 feud. Lets go Hijo del Santo y Octagon contra La Pareja del Terror. Oh and can you explain to me why L.A. Park and Konnan are feuding if they are in the same stable and their stable really isn’t falling apart?

Posted By: laparkinator (Guest)

Well what can I say, it’s on there, but at what number is the question?

Now as far as the L.A. ParK and Konnan issue, it’s actually a pretty good storyline. For starters L.A. ParK asked Konnan for a shot at the AAA Mega-Championship, Konnan agreed on one condition, he would have to defeat el Mesias. L.A. ParK achieved this at Guerra de Titanes, at the same time el Zorro won the AAA Mega-Championship from Dr. Wagner Jr. L.A. ParK was ready for his shot at the gold that he had rightfully earned. Konnan said that he had ordered L.A. ParK to not just beat El Mesias, but to destroy him! L.A. ParK did so later with the Martinete he delivered to el Mesias. L.A. ParK is awaiting his title shot, which I’m hoping headlines Triplemania. It would be amazing to see the guy that had been blackballed from AAA come back and win their world title at their biggest PPV!

The Blue Demon thing been confirmed a long time ago. I think guys like Blue Demon and Hijo Del Santo needs to work in either CMLL or AAA full time. They hurting the legacy of both names. The days of Blue Demon and Santo doing a random indy show drawing thousands is over. LA Park made a smart career move by going back to AAA, I think these two guys need to follow suit.

Posted By: USAUSA1 (Guest) on April

To be honest I’ve heard rumors and murmurs, but I’ve never heard of it actually being confirmed. If you have the info of where you saw or read that send it my way!

I agree about two of luchas biggest names not working with luchas two biggest companies really doesn’t make sense. At the same time the originals were independent for a big portion of their careers. I like the idea of both Santo and Demon working in and building their own indy’s, Blue Demon Jr. has NWA: Mexico and Santo Jr. had Todo X Todo, but it seems like these promotions are pet projects for these two. Nothing really taking off with either of them.

Oh yeah, I hate to say it but L.A. ParK did make a smart business move. The promotion seems to be backing him, and he’s constantly in the main event scene. Nice to see those two are able to get along after the numerous lawsuits. It would have been nice to have L.A. ParK actually regain the La Parka name after Triplemania, but I think he’s built up the L.A. ParK name too much to go back to La Parka.

My Top 10 Lucha Feuds/Matches

The List so far:

10. L.A. ParK VS. El Dandy: Box Y Lucha 2004 Match of the Year
09. Blue Panther VS. Villano V, The Ola Lagunera and Villano Saga
08. Rey Mysterio Jr. VS. Psicosis, The World Tour
07. Villanos Vs Los Brazos, The Unmasking of a Dynasty
06. El Perro Aguayo’s Quest for Masks
05. Cien Caras VS. Rayo de Jalisco Jr. The 57th Anniversary show and the Birth of the Lucha Boom
04. El Santo VS Blue Demon: Two Generations and Still Going
03. El Santo VS Black Shadow: The Golden Age of Lucha.

On the 7th of November of 1952 history was made. Los Hermanos Shadow: Blue Demon and Black Shadow had been part of an almost decade long feud with La Pareja Atomica, El Santo and Gory Guerrero. After years of tag-team matches, Santo and Shadow eventually clashed in singles competition. This eventually led to a Mask Vs. Mask match in 1952. Obviously El Santo took the victory after 3-falls and Black Shadow was unmasked as Alejandro Cruz from Leon, Guanajuato Mexico.

This match has a lot of historical significance for many reasons. For one, it solidified the importance of a Mask Vs Mask match. To this day it is considered by many to be the most important match in Lucha history, without this match Lucha would not be what it is today. This match was also the turning point for el Santo, after this he became a Technico, which then escalated him to the heights he now stands on. This match also inspired Salvador Lutteroth to create Arena Mexico. Seeing as many had to be turned away at the door, and the location being filled to its 12,000 capacity. Also one little historical note that many are not aware of, this match was the first spark to light up a lifelong Blue Demon and El Santo feud. Once Santo won the match, he did not unmask Shadow, Blue Demon did not allow it, and he himself unlaced Black Shadows mask.

Now many would disagree with the placement of this match at number three. I would agree with many points, but let us remember that this list is opinion based. While there is no way I could discount this match, I just believe there are two more matches that might just be as important if not more. Let alone my own biased comes into play. Also, not actually having a match to physically watch might take away a bit. The video posted is a video of a Santo and Black Shadow match after Shadow had been unmasked.
