411’s Wrestler of the Week 09.12.11: Year Seven, Week 24
Posted by Larry Csonka on 09.12.2011
Bobby Roode won the Bound for Glory Series, Mark Henry continued to destroy people, Austin Aries won the TNA X-Division Title and more! Check out 411's Wrestler of the Week for all the details and for an updated look at the Year-End standings!
Welcome to Week 24, Year SEVEN, of 411's Wrestler of the Week. A quick overview of the rules to kick things off for us as a reminder…
Each writer chooses FIVE wrestlers from any promotion and each wrestler gets a point total attached to that ranking. It looks a little like this…
Then we tally up the votes and the official 411 Wrestler of the Week is crowned. But wait, there's more! Each week the top SIX vote getters get a points value for their ranking which looks something like this…
1st - 15
2nd - 12
3rd - 9
4th - 6
5th - 3
6th - 1
...and they go towards the 411 Wrestler of the Year award to be announced each year around WrestleMania. This will be posted every Monday. Let's see who wins this week…
Larry Csonka
1) Bobby Roode
Defeated Gunner and Bully Ray at No Surrender to win the Bound For Glory series and also a TNA World Title Shot at Bound For Glory against Kurt Angle!
2) Austin Aries: Not only the greatest man that ever lived, but your NEW TNA X-Division Champion!
3) KANA: Defeated former WWE star Serena Deeb to become the first SMASH Divas Champion.
4) Kurt Angle
5) Winter
Ryan Byers
1) Mark Henry
Smackdown this week was essentially the Mark Henry Show, with the big man continuing down his much deserved path of destruction. Zack Ryder? Laid out. Ezekiel Jackson? Defeated handily. Randy Orton? Squished. I'm not looking all that forward to the eventual Orton/Henry match because I can't imagine that it will be that great, but, as a character, Henry has looked AWESOME lately, in part because of how he's booked and in even larger part because of how he's performed.
2) Randy Orton: If anybody has benefited from Smackdown stars being featured on Monday Night Raw, it's Randy Orton, as he now has two nights in which to dominate and put on very fun matches while dominating. This week, his victims were Heath Slater - who Orton made look better than he ever has - and a very game Cody Rhodes. Now let's see if Orton can keep his hot streak alive for one more week.
3) Kenny Omega: Omega made his debut for All Japan Pro Wrestling this week after having previously wrestled for New Japan and DDT. He debuted in a big way, defeating the reigning AJPW Jr. Heavyweight Champion KAI in the first main event of All Japan's new junior heavyweight league tournament.
4) Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi
5) Kana
Wes Kirk
1) Kurt Angle
That Kurt Angle is a sly devil, isn't he? After the publicized Virginia DWI incident Angle showed the test results proving his innocence. After that, he went on to put on a very good match with Sting and Anderson that ended with another retention of the most valuable belt in wrestling by pinning Sting at No Surrender. This is in addition to the man training for the 2012 Olympics and after Warrior hit theaters with Angle playing one of the top guys. Frankly, he turned all the attention against him into a positive and hit it out of the park this week.
2) Robert Roode: The Bound For Glory Series ended Sunday night with two victories by the man who is coming out as a main event level talent in Bobby Roode. First, he took Gunner out with the same reverse Fujiwara armbar that put Flair on the shelf for months, and then he went on to face Bully Ray the same night and defeated him with a well-timed Double R Spinebuster for the pinfall and the win of the series. As a result, he will headline the biggest TNA PPV of the year against Kurt Angle for the TNA World Championship and after seeing his performance the last several years, he deserves it.
3) Austin Aries: The Greatest Man That Ever Lived continues his domination of the X-Division by becoming the new champion after defeating Brian Kendrick in a hard-fought battle that many consider the best No Surrender match. A-Double has proven himself to be entertaining, versatile, and extremely entertaining with a cheat to win mentality and the ability to win on his own without any skullduggery.
4) Randy Orton
5) Cody Rhodes
Steve Cook
1) Robert Roode
Say what you will about the BFG series being completely nonsensical, illogical and unfair in the numbers of matches given to the participants, but Robert Roode emerges from it ready to challenge Kurt Angle for the TNA championship. And there's a pretty good chance he'll win it because who knows what kind of trouble Kurt will get in between now & the show. Roode won two matches against members of Immortal to earn the series victory, and is a deserving challenger. Why, I'd even say there's a chance he could make it in WWE someday.
2) Randy Orton: The Viper had a pretty busy week, catching a flight from Europe over to Raw just so he could beat Heath Slater, then defeating Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes in an outstanding matchup on SmackDown. The downside is that he's running right into a brick wall named...
3) Mark Henry: All this guy does is split wigs, and he split three of them this week on SmackDown. Zack Ryder, Big Zeke & Randy Orton all became inductees into the Hall of Pain. Not bad for a night's work.
4) Cody Rhodes
5) Austin Aries
Jeremy Thomas
1) Robert Roode
Okay, so I was defending the BfG series for a good long while there but I gave up during the PPV last night because even I got lost as to what the rules were. But what I do know is that when the dust settled, Roode was the #1 contender to the TNA World Title. Roode has deserved a main event push for a long time; here's hoping they follow through on it.
2) Mark Henry: Mark Henry is looking like not just a credible threat to Randy Orton, but a dominant one. If someone told me six months ago that I'd be saying that, I'd have laughed.
3) Austin Aries: Aries won the best match at No Surender and also walked away with the X-Division title.
4) Bully Ray/Cody Rhodes (tie)
5) Winter
Chad Nevett
1) Robert Roode
Roode will finally hit the main stage by main eventing Bound for Glory and challenging for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship after winning the Bound for Glory Series -- and he did it by winning two matches on Sunday. He's been close to the main event before and it's about damn time he got there.
2) Mark Henry: This week finalized the idea that nothing can stop Mark Henry. He is just a monster that will destroy anyone in his way, including Randy Orton.
3) Austin Aries: Your new TNA X Division Champion! Nice to see skill rewarded as he's been the most entertaining thing on Impact each week since he rejoined the company.
4) Randy Orton
5) Winter

Wes, wasn't one of the reasons you thought the TNA was the most valuable because the WWE title was defended 3 times in like 8 days? The TNA title was defended 3 times in 10 days(TV airings), shouldn't that make that title less valuable? I know it didn't change hands but when you have 3 title matches in 2 weeks, 1 not announced till the show it took place on and 1 on PPV not announced till 3 days before the PPV, I think that devalues the TNA title like the WWE title was devalued. If anything the World title should be most valued. Not defended each week and the man holding the title is putting on good to great matches week after week. I'm just saying, wouldn't it be fair to devalue the TNA title for the same reason you think the WWE title was devalued?
Onto the WOTW
1.Roode
2.Aries
3.Angle
4.Orton/Rhodes
5.Winter

...What for? He's doing great in TNA.

Apart from Wes love of Kurt Angle the biggest troll here was Byers. As good as some of the indy wrestlers are the guys in WWE or TNA deserve to be seen as they are the top two companies in the USA. While I don't think Kurt Angle deserved to be on the list Roode and Aries were the top two guys this week above Orton and Henry.

I think it's because he will actually be able to make money in WWE, not have to pull the graveyard shift at the Orlano "Waffle House" anymore.

1) Virginia State troopers reported that Angle's blood alcohol level was 0.091 when initially tested. Angle's number comes from a test conducted later on. (according to 411mania.com's news feed)
2) He most likely isn't going to make the 2012 US Olympic wrestling team. They are way too strict with their drug screenings.
3) I haven't seen Warrior, but imdb.com lists Angle as the 24th person in the credits for the film. I really doubt he's playing "one of the top guys". Probably just a cameo role.
Angle had a good week with his title defense and deserves some points, but damn. Good job twisting facts and spinning lies again Wesley. I guess a Republican douchebag like yourself just can't help it.

You can't make money if you're not a star. And TNA 100% made him. Why would anyone trade that for a cat in the bag? Jack Swagger, Matt Sydal, Drew McIntyre, John Morrison, the list goes on and on.

Well... Wes aint hiding the fact that he's a complete mark, so... I guess it's ok for Steve to do the same thing. I guess...

This makes zero sense, a WWE ppv check is bigger than 2 months in TNA, and if you're not on ppv's, life is still a hell of a lot better.
Evan Bourne ( I know, you're cool w/ the 'Matt Sydal' ref) would be eating beans in his car/bed, breaking his neck in the indies.
Swagger was too much, too soon, worked for Sheamus, but the guy is on Raw & people there seem to say he has a bright future.
Drew MacIntyre?? That guy was shoved down throats and got into shit, thanks to the blow up w/ his wife at WM, he's young and his payday is better than Roode's
John Morrison is cool, he's a great act & sells merchendise, but the IWC made him the next champ, nothing he did on TV did other than some cool spots & his 'palace of wisdom/shaman of sexy' gimmick did squat (his great gimmick went away after his face turn & the sad reality he can't talk or get his character over.
Roode seems cool, he would do better in WWE. The guy needs to stop serving those 'scattered, smothered & covered' hash-browns at the Orlando Waffle House. as far as 'cat in the bag'-- I don't think it means what you think it means because it makes no sense in what you wrote.

mark henery is way too high!!!
aries/angle and orton all defended/won titles in good matches yet the over weight/average wrestler gets put higher than all these guys...
and wheres the mark henery hate?? the duds 40, & hes never been very good...
everyone complains about tna having old at the top but look a wwe right now...
angle may be old too but hes still a top 5 in ring talent... henery could hit top 20 talent even in his prime...
tna has a heavyweight challenger robert roode, in his early 30's geting his 1st title shot... meanwhile in the E, orton is challenged by a washed up, has been... my bad never was!!!

good job csonka & kirk!
f**k the haters!!!

Wes Kirk gets it 100% right yet again, anyone who didn't vote for Kurt this week is just a hater.
Posted By: poffo316 (Guest) on September 13, 2011 at 02:58 AM
Byers completely IGNORES TNA so why is he allowed to do these votes every week. It makes this site look Bush league for having such an over the top hater be considered a "writer".
Roode is doing fine in TNA and he makes good money like alot of TNA wrestlers do. Even the Young Bucks said its good money when your being used.
Roode shouldve been EVERYONE's number 1 this week

Ha! Look at who you're citing your source from! The Young Bucks were eating canned sardines outside a bingo hall, so their Chick-fil-A vouchers at the Orlando mall food court IS considered "good money" to those spot monkeys!
