411’s Wrestler of the Week 10.10.11: Year Seven, Week 28
Posted by Larry Csonka on 10.10.2011

Welcome to Week 28, Year SEVEN, of 411's Wrestler of the Week. A quick overview of the rules to kick things off for us as a reminder…

Each writer chooses FIVE wrestlers from any promotion and each wrestler gets a point total attached to that ranking. It looks a little like this…

1st - 5
2nd - 4
3rd - 3
4th - 2
5th - 1

If you are wondering how some of the writers decide who to vote for, please check out our Wrestler of the Week Supplemental Column!

Then we tally up the votes and the official 411 Wrestler of the Week is crowned. But wait, there's more! Each week the top SIX vote getters get a points value for their ranking which looks something like this…

1st - 15
2nd - 12
3rd - 9
4th - 6
5th - 3
6th - 1

...and they go towards the 411 Wrestler of the Year award to be announced each year around WrestleMania. This will be posted every Monday. Let's see who wins this week…

Larry Csonka
1) Mike Quackenbush
Mike Quackenbush defeated Sara Del Rey in an EXCELLENT match Friday night in Burlington, NC to help lock up his position as a finalist of the 12 Large Tournament. He will no go on to face the War King Eddie Kingston to crown the first ever CHIKARA grand Champion!

2) Sara del Rey: While Sara del Rey lost to Mike Quakenbush (again, an awesome match) she closed out the weekend in grand fashion, defeating SMASH Divas champion KANA in the main event of CHIKARA's debut in Kingsport, TN. The Queen of Wrestling has had a hell of a year, and proved again this weekend why she is not only the queen, but one of the best pro wrestlers today.
3) Volador: Defeated Jushin Liger to win the Leyenda de Plata Tournament.
4) Bobby Roode
5) Johnny Gargano and Chuck Taylor

Michael Bauer
1) Robert Roode
I didn't like the ending (shocker), but TNA is building up Roode nicely with a good video package and great showing against James Storm. Now, I wonder if they will actually pull the trigger and give him the belt.

2) Mike Quackenbush: Won his block by beating Del Rey and is in the finals of the Big 12 tournament.
3) Big Show: He actually looked interesting and that is rare for the big man.
4) Christian
5) Randy Orton

Chad Nevett
1) Davey Richards
Defended the Ring of Honor World Heavyweight Championship against Roderick Strong on ROH's tv show this week.

2) Mike Quackenbush: Got a big victory over Sara Del Rey (who had all of the momentum going into their match) in the 12 Large Summit Tournament and guaranteed that he will win their block.
3) The Big Show: Made a big return on Smackdown with some good promo work and was the first guy to really look like a threat to Mark Henry's dominance.
4) Volador Jr.
5) Randy Orton

TJ Hawke
1) Davey Richards
Successfully retained the ROH World Title on TV.

2) Mike Quackenbush & Eddie Kingston: The action from this weekend insured that these two will meet to decide the winner of the 12 Large Summit, which will crown the first Chikara Grand Champion
3) Chuck Taylor & Johnny Gargano: Had their first successful defense of the Chikara Tag Titles
4) Robert Roode
5) Big Show

Ryan Byers
1) Sara Del Rey
She might have gone 1-1 and she might not have moved on to wrestle for the company's first championship, but I honestly feel like Del Rey has more buzz surrounding her than any other wrestler coming out of this weekend's two CHIKARA shows. First off, she had a reportedly off-the-charts match with company founder Mike Quackenbush in the 12 Large Tournament where she was cheered over Quack himself. She followed that up the next night with a main event match against Kana, which was epically stiff and is being called the match of the weekend. SDR isn't just my wrestler of the week this week. She may wind up being my women's wrestler of the year.

2) Davey Richards: Gotta give Richards some love for coming out successful in the first ROH Title defense on the new Sinclair TV program.
3) Randy Orton: Orton was the most consistently dominant wrestler across both Raw and Smackdown this week.
4) The Big Show
5) Chuck Taylor & Johnny Gargano

Michael Ornelas
1) Davey Richards
Defended the Ring of Honor World Championship in his debut match on Ring of Honor on Sinclair programming. Gr8 stuff.

2) The Big Show: Returned last week and cut a very convincing promo as 2 y he h8s Mark Henry. Glad 2 c him back.
3) Bobby Roode: This is actually 1 of my favorite stories in wrestling right now.
4) Chuck Taylor & Johnny Gargano
5) Mike Quackenbush

R.C. Sutton
1) Davey Richards
Defended his ROH World Title successfully against Roderick Strong on the ROH tv show over the weekend. That's enough for the top spot this week.

2) Bobby Roode: The push behind Roode has been impressive and he had another video package this week and picked up a win against James Storm
3) Sheamus: Picked up the win for his team on Raw last Monday and part of big tag match with Randy Orton on Friday.
4) Big Show
5) Kelly Kelly

Steve Cook
1) Sheamus
The Great White Sheamus scored the pinfall in Raw's huge 12-man tag team match featuring nearly everybody WWE values most. He was also part of that group of wrestlers higher up on the card that mysteriously wasn't out there when Triple H was given a vote of no confidence. Big things seem to be in store for the Celtic Warrior, who has been on fire as of late.
2) Bobby Roode: Defeated tag team partner James Storm to complete the Fortune gauntlet & solidify himself as a legitimate contender to Kurt Angle's championship. I give TNA lots of crap when they deserve it, and I praise them when they do something right like pushing Roode (and hopefully James Storm soon enough).
3) Sara Del Rey: Had a good showing against Mike Quackenbush & defeated Japan's Kana during CHIKARA's weekend shows, solidifying her claim to being the best women's wrestler in the world.
4) Davey Richards
5) Big Show

Andy Critchell
1) Beth Phoenix
It was a pretty slow week outside of the whole Triple H as the cheese who stands alone storyline so I thought I would give some dap to the Glamazon for being on the winning end of things twice in the week. Now granted her match on Raw was a DQ finish with Kelly Kelly as a cauldron of hate and rage but she did get some important mic time in the most important storyline of the week and was the voice of ALL the Divas. Then on Smackdown she smoked a former Divas Champion in less than a minute.

2) Team FIST - Icarus, Chuck Taylor, & Johnny Gargano: It was a big weekend for Chikara as they ran shows in the south and Taylor & Gargano Team FIST managed to successfully defend the Campeonatos de Parejas on Friday night while Icarus defeated Hallowicked in a 12 Large Tournament Match. On Saturday all three men won in trios action over the Batiri. Not too shabby.
3) Sheamus: He was in the main event matches for both Raw & Smackdown and was on the winning side both times. On Raw he was the man who picked up the pinfall for his team and on Smackdown he tagged with Randy Orton as they defeated Christian and Cody Rhodes. His star continues to rise.
4) Big Show
5) Bobby Roode

No love at all for Richards and Romero as new IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team champions? Or Masato Tanaka as IWGP Intercontinental champion?

Those both just happened today, so they're not eligible until next week's voting.

Haha Sara Del Ray sure is great! Putting her over all those male wrestlers isnt hurting them at all! What a great champion she'll be! *Nudge nudge wink wink*.

Beth Phoenix!!!?? First she gets totally owned by someone half her size. Her job as Divas spokesperson makes her seem totally weak and is complete contrast to her character. She beat ALICIA FOX!!!! Former Divas champ or not, does anyone count that as even a mediocre win?

Why is Randy Orton not in special mention when he also scored 5 points like Beth & Volador? One 3rd place vote & two 5th place votes should equal 5 points...

I still think that if booked properly Mark Henry could dominate the WHC scene up until WM where they could either pit him against Daniel Bryan in one of the most intriguing little guy / big guy match ups ever. Not to mention it would give Henry a much deserved WotY considering how incredible his promo work has been

Sara Del Rey is one of the few (if not the only) female wrestlers who can take victories over her male counterparts and not hurt their standing at all. The woman is just that brilliant.

I threw a book at my cat for clawing the chair. He ran away. In celebration, I build a title belt out of cardboard and aluminum foil and I declared a successful title defense against my cat.

That junk belt is already more valuable then anything a couple of vanilla midgets flip and flop around for in Ring of Honor.

It says on this page multiple times that Mike Quackenbush beat her to advance to the finals of that tournament. Which means she won't be winning the championship anytime soon. Learn to read.

Yeah my point was during the tournement everyone was sucking her clit and acting like it would be totally cool if she won, rather than kayfabe destroying bullshit.

She at least lost, but Rey Mysterio can compete with the Big Show? I think as fans it's ok to suspend disbelief for the sake of the story. I would tend to believe Sara is a bigger threat than Rey Mysterio is to most male wrestlers...
