The Wrestling 6&1 12.03.11 SUPERSIZED Part #1: Maryse Versus Lita!
Posted by Greg De Marco on 12.03.2011

PART ONE

Another crazy busy week at the DeMarco compound (which looks a lot more like a house than a compound, but everyone seems to want to call their abode a compound). Big thanks to everyone who has been lending their words of encouragement and support both in and out of the wrestling world. If you don't know, I was laid off back on September 6 from a job I had for several years (#bootstodemarco). I obtained a new job that was exciting, but the employer failed to disclose some very necessary information (like length of the employment, since it was very short term). Many other things happened that led me and the family to decide it was time to part ways with that employer. It was a huge leap of faith to leave a position, since the first time (September) I didn't exactly ask to be laid off. We were blessed to have enough to pay our bills and still do all of our Christmas shopping on Black Friday!

One great thing about being jobless is that I have plenty of time to dedicate to my column. So much so that this week's column is huge. Ginormous. So large that it didn't fit, and I had to split it into two parts. Please read both, and closely follow the directions to make sure you properly vote in each Versus match-up. That's right, if we have two parts, we have TWO Versus match-ups!

I also divided the comments up into two parts (thanks to you all dropping 230 comments on my ass!), so we'll start with...

This Week: For this week's special double header, I've put together a Wrestling 5&1 Dream Match—of epic proportions!—for part one. Number one in the hall steps in to the Versus arena with one of wrestling's biggest cult favorites.

Will Maryse defend the Hall of Bang?

Can Lita take down #1?

YOU MAKE THE CALL!

Lita vs. Maryse. Take your pick!
Stay tuned as next week as I'll reveal the winner!

(Part 1!)

Before I get to the comments, I want to say that the overwhelming feedback was to include Lizzy Valentine in a future Versus match-up. Consider her included, friends! I have to say, no female has gotten this level of a response since the debut of Buggy! Lizzy's not going to appear in Versus this week, but fear not faithful DeMarcouts! I've got a little Lizzy to carry you over...

Now, as much as a Lizzy Valentine Pic of the Week would likely be met with much love, the next time we have Lizzy in the column will be for her entrance into Versus. I can also confirm that a Lizzy Valentine appearance on The Greg DeMarco Show is in the works...I will keep you updated!

On with the idiots trolls beloved comments!

Those are some bad Layla pics.

You know what, you're right. And to make it up for you, I have THE hook-up for Layla pics. Seriously, you can find some amazing Layla pictures here! You can thank me later.

Tiffany,Buggy,Terra,Veda,Barbi,Lizzy,and Santana FTW!!
Posted By: Mutatron101

I'm very happy with the fact that my audience has love for the women who get less exposure. Does the fact that they're not on TV each week and posing for overproduced photos on a near weekly basis factor into that love?

I'm not saying this could 100% work, but putting the Divas in either side could somehow elevate the Divas section. ... Trish Stratus and Mickie James vs Kharma and Beth Phoenix … Anyone?
Posted By: gene

I just don't see that happening. The WWE is all about building a big showdown—between two individuals. If they ever did Trish-Kharma, it would be blown off as a one-on-one match.

Surely someone is spamming for Tiffany, right? Otherwise...ew.
Posted By: Guest#2869

The girl next door quality works for her—I just didn't realize how far it would take her.

Why not build a current, relevant diva like Kelly, Eve, or even Beth to face Kharma instead? ... For the record, I don't hate Trish and I'm not that idiot Morrison mark. I'm just realistic about what she brings to the table at this stage. She ain't the female Rock.
Posted By: Guest#1306 (Guest)

Because in the WWE, short-term gain trumps long-term growth. They've completely bought into Twitter, which is an instant gratification application. What's trending now is far more important than what might be huge in five years. To the WWE, that is.

And P.S., I hope the whole thing about him showing off how much more fan support he has than Cena is part of a storyline, because it's really petty and immature. On top of that, he kept making fun of Cena's fan base. How should the kids that like Cena feel? What about the group of grown ups that like Cena? Why is The Rock insulting a certain group of the audience just because they like Cena? ... That angle seems counter-productive. You are using The Rock to make Cena look like a complete loser, you should use The Rock to make Cena look like an equal, to build the match. ... I am really annoyed by this, and the funny thing is that I am a fan of The Rock's not Cena's
Posted By: Anthonio

The WWE is naïve enough to think this will build up sympathy for Cena, while not hurting The Rock. It's not working, but the WWE doesn't always hear what their fans are saying. I also think that Cena is going over in the end, and Rock will then put him over publically as well. Then we might see Cena & Rock team again (Never Before, Never Again? HA!) and actually be on the same page. The WWE will view this as a rub for Cena, even if the hardcore fans won't see it.

If these "superstars" was doing their job. WWE wouldn't need to bring The Rock or any of these other ppl in
Posted By: Guest#9775

That sounds nice, but let's be real here. If Rock and Snooki bring in extra viewers and PPV buys, the WWE is going to bring them in regardless of how the other talent is drawing.

I would say that for the most part these "bizarro world" crowds, as you refer to them add to the event.
Posted By: The Hodge

I agree 100% with The Hodge. I like the smart crowds. But I don't think I'd like them for every single event. Then it stops being cool.

I think if Cena is going to turn heel it should be at RR or soon after RR to set up the WM match, but I doubt it happens.
Still Guest#8287

It's not happening before ‘Mania. Both men will be faces at the event, and that is exactly how the WWE wants it.

Touche, that makes sense about the crazy girls being sexually charged. If they weren't nobody would put up with them longer than the weekend.
Posted By: SilentOx

Sex is the major power that women have over us, friend! We do some stupid things thanks to it.

It's great that Vince or whoever chooses has a type. But from life experience I can tell you that different men have different tastes and that includes bottom heavy. After a while adding more of the same does not hold more fans or make more money.
Posted By: Guest#9887

You could say that about any facet of life, not just women. But the WWE definitely has a desired look, as we'll discuss later in this column.

think WWE was right in the way they handled R-Truth. He didn't get a lesser or different penalty, he got a delayed penalty. It would have hurt the build to Survivor series to break up the Awesome Truth. Sure I'd love to see Cody or Ziggler elevated by being in the match, but it would have been hard to do well.
Posted By: Guest#1266

I agree that the WWE did what they likely felt like they had to do. But it seems like to truly have a system that can be trusted and be held in high esteem, the delay needs to be eliminated.

As much as i would love a heel turn for Cena, now i'm seeing why it isn't such a good idea anymore. Even if stale goodie-goodie Cena becomes the nWo 'Cool Heel', that pleases the males, but who will the children cheer for? Right now, as it stands, children have no real role model to cheer for other than Cena and to a lesser extent Mysterio. Orton is still a psychopath despite being a face, Punk embodies the mature spirit of rebellion, and every other face does not embody the same face values as Cena. If Cena turns heel, children have NO ONE at a main event level to cheer for, other than Rey Mysterio, who should be getting phased out.
Posted By: Shio

I agree about the role model issue. I don't think the WWE had any role models in the attitude era, but they were serving a different audience at that time. Plus, Linda McMahon wasn't running for public office, and they weren't being held at the mercy of advertisers.

Thanks for the repost of Super Lizzy. Who is very VS worthy. ... Layla. But that isn't fair, as ALL the DeMarcettes would also beat (or should beat) Tiffany.
Posted By: Paul in Canada

I'm sure the DeMarcettes appreciate the vote of confidence!

I think the whole reason they keep teasing a Ryder run with the U.S title is to rebuild the belts credibility. It seems to be working in their favor. As soon as Ryder wins that belt it will blow the roof off of were ever it happens. Plus Ziggler is on fire as of late, so a slow burn to Ryder as U.S champ I am all for. In fact you build up both the belts and Ryder's credibility, and appeal making him hunt for it.
Posted By: Who

Neidhart returns! Sorry...

Anyway, you're right about Ziggler being mega over as a Superstar, not just a niche player. His win (assuming it does come) will be met with a huge reaction. I just wonder if it'll be as great if they wait too long...but how long is too long?

Punk and Orton's comments were in Character. Jeez. Just like Cena calling out the Rock all those years. Vince wants to Rock to stay, and by having another top 2 guys talking about the Rock, they are hoping he would stay for matches with them.
Posted By: Worked

Have you ever listened to a Randy Orton media appearance? Definitely not in character. He's laid back and down to earth in media appearances. In character he's a crazed "apex predator" assassin.

Going with Tiffany, but barely. And where did you dig up those shitty pix of both of them???
Posted By: Guest#6822

This is the seventh straight week for Tiffany, you know. Plus, Layla has made many appearances. So I'm trying to use different pics than before.

And yes, both Lizzy and Buggy for VS.
Posted By: John

You know, I've never considered putting a DeMarcette in Versus. Not sure if I want to.

The question is how hot these women are. Most importantly it's an excuse to post pics of them. If posting pics of Maryse is wrong, I don't want this site to be right.
Posted By: guest 64646

Don't worry, this site will remain "wrong" for quite some time to come.

I'm not entirely surprised that WWE would overlook a supremely talented woman because she doesn't have the right look, but I am disappointed. I thought there might be a chance of a direction change here, with the pushes for Beth Phoenix and Natalya and the signing of Kharma.
Posted By: HeartBurnKid

I would buy it if they got turned face. But as heels they are destined to lose out in the end, and lose to the prettier girls, too.

New York and Toronto are great, but I feel sometimes they - especially Toronto - do it to try and live up to a reputation. Booing Edge his first time there in over 2 years cause he is a stale face in 04? That was just them trying to be smarky.
Posted By: Joey

Not sure if they're trying to be "cool," but they definitely don't do it as well as Philly and Chicago.

I hate that Truth will be a face when he comes back, cause he's been so refreshing as a heel. Plus, once again the WWE will be counting on people's short attention spanning to make Truth dance and praise "little jimmy" after all this time of saying he wouldn't be the "good ol R-Truth". Whatever.
Posted By: SS87

Like I said in that special Monday Greg DeMarco Show, I think of R-Truth as a utility player who will likely spend a lot of time on both sides of the face/heel spectrum.

I think the story that everybody's overlooking here is that Sean Waltman is a talent scout. Seriously?! Posted By: Andrew

You're right...more should be made of that. He obviously got that job because of his friends. But on that, he's also likely learning that it doesn't matter who the scout is. You just have to possess the ability to find a man or women who meets the description that Vince McMahon writes down for you.

Far more interested when Wrestlemania is in MSG than Miami.

Anyplace that had a really strong territory background, really.
Posted By: Guest#4354

You know, I actually favor the arena environment for WrestleMania or any wrestling event for that matter. Stadium shows might look impressive, but the feel is very different. But it's economics.

And I like your thoughts on Cena's heel turn. The thing about Cena right now is that he doesn't have to be turned heel for the feud to work--the fans have already turned him heel. He can still come out, be the same Cena he's been for years, and the women and kids will cheer him while the guys boo the hell out of him. Hell, nowadays it sounds like the whole arena tends to hate him when he comes out so why straight up turn him right now? Although I did like the raps he did against Rock last year.
Posted By: Zingy

I agree. So much that I think turning Cena heel before their ‘Mania showdown would make the feud worse. It works better this way.

Did you just print "...can tiffany get on top?" I wouldnt mind her being on top of me.
Posted By: TheR

Close. It was "Can Tiffany get on the top row?"

But sometimes our minds read things how we'd prefer to read them! Can't blame you there.

Yes we judge TNA a bit differently, but they ask us to. They say they are an alternative and that "wrestling matters". ... More of the same isn't an alternative, it is more of the same. TNA has been called WWE-lite, so we've seen it done better before. Worse too. ... Wrestling matters is telling people that the Sports-Entertainment aspect is de-emphasized.
Posted By: Guest#0702

The problem with "Wrestling Matters" is that it was a poorly chosen marketing slogan. TNA looks at what the WWE does AS wrestling. They think sports entertainment = wrestling. So to them, Sports Entertainment Matters = Wrestling Matters. That's why the slogan was unceremoniously dropped.

Wrong and wrong. She doesn't pop a crowd anymore and how exactly is she a draw? ... Dwayne Johnson and Snooki are household names at the moment, like it or not. Trish Stratus is not.
Posted By: Guest#9724

I have to disagree. While Trish doesn't have the same casual fan appeal as The Rock or Snooki, she does draw more fans in. The WWE has lost plenty of fans over the years, and bringing back Trish Stratus, The Rock, Roddy Piper, etc. will help bring them back.

Tiffany x100,000,000
Posted By: Guest#2510

Yeah...that counts!

(As one. And she still lost.)

i was at the MITB PPV this year and the atmosphere was amazing. as for Chicago considered bizarro world? how so? the whole CM Punk supposedly leaving with the title and being the hometown hero was pretty much a given to how fans would react. what other PPV events in Chi-town made it as bizarro as NY has always been?
Posted By: ChicagOWNED

Chicago has been viewed as "Bizarro World" since WrestleMania 22. They made booing Cena cool. The fact that Money in the Bank was in Chicago was a perfect storm for the WWE (especially with the preceeding RAW being in Cena's hometown of Boston).

And being called "Bizarro World" isn't a bad thing. It means you don't think and act like the WWE trains you to. It represents a set of wrestling fans who can form their own opinion. Every city has them, but in the Bizarro World cities of Chicago, NYC, Toronto and Boston there is a far greater concentration.

Oh and is it just me but is The Rock not the heel in this feud with Cena as much as Cena is the bad guy to the general fans. I hate The Rocks character since he came back, he feels like a school boy bully.
Posted By: Mr Telling It Like It Is

I don't think it's as much of a face-heel dynamic for that feud. It's two faces. And I agree with your assessment of The Rock. But he's The Rock. The could declare his hatred for "The People" and the crowd would find it hilarious. At first, anyway.

I do however disagree with Miz slowly becoming the next Roddy Piper. Okay, first of all, remember, there is and will only be one Rowdy Roddy Piper in this and any generation. Secondly, Roddy Piper had people that wanted to and attempted TO MURDER HIM!! When it comes to the Miz, I just believe that no one cares. He won at Wrestlemania 27, but no one gave a damn after that. Lastly, the Hotrod was wild and rowdy before rowdy was cool. Miz is just one dimensional, and boring. That is just my opinion after all. If you believe I took something out of context, feel free to call me out on it. I hope I didn't, I don't like it when I do that.
Posted By: Mr. Magnanimous

I don't think you're taking anything out of context. No one watching today's product wants to murder anyone. Every single casual fan knows it's fake, so it's treated differently. Plus, the WWE rarely allows their faces to appear weak enough to let the heel get that type of heat. But remember, the statement was that The Miz is slowly becoming this generation's Piper. There will only be one Roddy Piper, and I believe that in 20 years people will be saying that there will only be one Miz.

POINTS 6, 5 & 4.

In my efforts for continuous improvement, I am adding a new wrinkle to the column: The 2 Point Perspective. It's where I'll dedicate two points to a larger story—which could in effect be its own column if I wanted. But Greg DeMarco is here to bring you MORE content! You're welcome.

One story that got tons of play last week was my take on wrestler reactions to The Rock. The main player in this item was CM Punk, and we also had a little Randy Orton thrown in.

Let's take another look at some of Punk's comments:

"It doesn't help morale when the guy goes right from his limo to the dressing room to the dressing room to the ring. He's very bourgeois Hollywood. He came back, he did WWE Raw after that. He said he was never gonna leave. And the next time we saw him is a month later. ... A little hello would have been nice. He could have run by with his own entourage."

And we won't leave out Orton, either:

"Sure, I hate that the guy is back. I wish I was in his spot working with Cena at WrestleMania 28. Yea, I'm happy that Rock's back. I'm over the bitterness (laughs) so to speak with him being back saying he never left and all that b.s."

Last week I basically told those guys to shut-up. The Rock is great for business, and if today's major stars of the WWE were drawing, Vince wouldn't need to bring in The Rock. He might still want to bring in The Rock, but he wouldn't need to.

And it garnered some reaction from all of you...

Punk said himself that it's great that The Rock is back because it's good for business. He's pissed that The Rock gets to show up 5 times a year and do whatever he wants just because he's such a big draw. Sure it's The Rock, but I'd be pissed too if I was in his shoes busting my ass 300 days a year while someone else only has to wrestle twice and isn't even there for 99% of the live shows.
Posted By: SHADE

Eh, Rock has already paid his dues. Like it or not the guy's a huge megastar. You don't simply add The Rock back to your show and not have him near or at the top of the card. And I'm sure this is Punk working into a future angle with Rock, as Punk is too smart not to realize why Rock is in the spot he is.
Posted By: Jerry

Even assuming what Punk says about Rock's attitude is true, he should be madder at the WWE for letting things get to the point where only the Rock can generate mainstream attention. And if anyone has the right to be bitter it is Punk, as he was poised to become the next big Icon in the business, but the WWE dropped the ball and turned him into just another anti-corporate face.
Posted By: Michael L

I also agree about Punk needing to shut up. Maybe The Rock was acting a little high & mighty but then again IT'S THE FUCKING ROCK. He's entitled. He comes back to plug movies and, I think, to show people that he really hasn't forgotten the business that made him a household name. Just because he wasn't telling Punk how fucking awesome he was or that he wanted some goddamn ice cream bars Punk has to act like a little bitch. I don't think the Rock's this sports entertainment god others make him out to be but I'd rather watch a Rock match with the People's Elbow instead of a Punk match with another shitty looking GTS.
Posted By: Zingy

So The Rock is good for business. The WrestleMania 27 buyrate and the television ratings confirm that he's good for business. He's raised the WWE's mainstream visibility, and John Cena's as well. The Rock can say "Starwberry Shortcake" during RAW and it would immediately be trending worldwide on Twitter. And the WWE loves some Twitter!

The Rock draws the money, so while the WWE superstars may not like it, I'm sure they understand it. But these guy's egos are through the roof. I completely understand why they might be displeased with the Rock's "movie star" attitude. Honestly if Orton and Punk are a little miffed, it makes sense. They guys are working for the WWE day in and day out, where as the Rock does not. But business is business. That's how these things work.
Posted By: SteveyMac

The Rock is also a huge movie star, currently filming a movie. His appearance on RAW before Survivor Series took place on a Monday where he was also shooting G.I. Joe down in New Orleans. The Rock was filming that morning, hopped on a plane and arrived at the arena at 6:30 PM—when RAW went on air at 9 PM. From what I understand, talent usually arrives at 10 or 11 AM. So Rock was there at least seven hours later than everyone else. He's getting special treatment. He likely doesn't attend any meeting. He likely doesn't interact with any other talent. He likely has an entourage. Hell, he might come off as more "Hollywood" than some of the guest hosts. But when The Rock shows up, he's showing up as the biggest star the business has ever seen. And he knows it. So he acts the part, and that will detract from morale. Plus, guys like John Cena, Randy Orton, and more recently CM Punk normally walk around backstage as the top dogs in the entire building. When Rock's in town, they're not top dog anymore. So it impacts their morale, and they can't deal with that.

Should they blame The Rock? Maybe. The Rock did himself no favors when he said he'd "never leave again." To The Rock, that means he'll keep coming back, not go away for seven years. It means the fans will always be in his heart, he'll always cherish each time he's out there. To the wrestlers, hardcore fans and the Internet Wrestling Community, when the Rock says he'll "never leave again" it means he'll be on TV each week and on the road 200+ days a year. So we're starting off with a huge disconnect in terms of expectation level. For that I do blame The Rock—you have to know that saying you'll "never leave again" is going to elicit that type of reaction.

The Rock did react to some of those comments, and said exactly what I'd expect him to say:

"Always remember that the ones who were vocal and disapproving about me coming back–and we all know who the two are, are the ones who are most insecure and jealous. Maybe one day they'll smarten up and understand the greater perspective."

Did The Rock need to respond? No. Is everyone talking in character? No. What it is becoming is a pissing contest that anyone not named The Rock is doomed to lose. John Cena has taken it to the "via satellite" route in his criticisms of The Rock, but Cena has a program with The Rock. There's no program with CM Punk. There's no program with Randy Orton. Those guys are merely expressing their real opinion, and The Rock responded with his own opinion.

By the way, you'll notice that in his comments about The Rock, Orton says he wished it was him against Cena at WrestleMania, not him against Rock. That's very telling for me. Randy Orton—intentional or not—is telling everyone that he wants the top guys to be guys who are on the road every week, the guys the company should be built around. You can't blame him for that, either.

Basically, everyone needs to realize that what's good for business is normally what wins out in the end. However, I'm not 100% sure that bringing in The Rock is what has to be best for business. But I'll save that for point TWO of my 2 Point Perspective.

You Decide: Are recent criticisms of The Rock accurate?

Last week we discussed the WWE's disinterest in famed Mexican Luchadora Faby Apache. And I indicated that it was pretty much a non-issue, as most the entire division is a non-issue. Well, this week a new signing was made in the WWE, and it was Lingerie Football League player Danielle Moinet.

I'm shocked we don't get bra size on there...

Obviously a different background than Ms. Apache, and a different look as well. More of what the WWE is looking for. Maybe Sean Waltman is scouting in the wrong areas? I mean, he's flying down to Mexico when he could be attending LFL games on the company dime? (Okay, "dime" isn't the best word to use when discussing Waltman!)

I guess we should be excited that she's at least got an athletic background, right? But she's living proof that the WWE does have a very specific appearance in mind for their future Divas. I mean, she's basically a computer generated love-child of Kelly Kelly and Michelle McCool...

It does appear like she's got a great future ahead of her. She's already been paired with Abraham Washington, who the dirt sheets report is someone the WWE has high hopes for once he is brought up to the main roster. Plus, she has a background in public relations, fitness modeling and athletics. That's a mixture for success in the WWE. Think of the last fitness model with an athletic background who had prior experience in public relations brought in by the WWE...oh yeah, some girl named Trish.

You Decide: Will Danielle Moinet be the next Trish Stratus or the next Kelly Kelly?

Black Friday brought about a late night of Christmas shopping for the lovely & talented Mrs. DeMarco and I. Not late night Thursday, mind you. We went out around 9:00 PM Friday night, and got everything we would have gotten had we braved the idiotscrowds and the only line we waited in was the check-out line at Wal-Mart.

The reason for my sharing is a simple one: my five year old son put this at the top of his Christmas list:

Now, he didn't ask for John Cena & The Miz specifically, but he wanted a ring and "some wrestling guys" (as he puts it), and he also wanted a cage. This met all of those needs, and was on sale for $25 (the set is normally $40 and is already pushing $70 on eBay). I also got him a 2-pack labeled as "Sheamus vs. Triple H" and might grab another set before December 25th arrives. I want him to get a belt or two in there, as my son is already a belt-mark!

And just ot make it official, his favorite wrestler is The Miz. But that's based on theme music. He loves the "AWESOME!" intro, and he quotes it often. His mother doesn't get the same kick out of it as I do!

But it took my back to the good old days of WWF action figures—the solid rubber ones that I had as a kid. I had more LJN figures than I can remember. I had all the figures, the ring, and the cage. I built my own ringside area, and even put two chairs together with a piece of wood across them to make my own scaffold match! Yes, I made sure the WWF had a scaffold match—on each card! They're a part of my childhood, and I'm excited to pass that love down to the kid as well.

And one more thing... he doesn't really like John Cena.

You Decide: Did you have the old school wrestling figures?

Maryse over Lita, easily. Lita is *ugly* and the excessive tattooing doesn't help.

Neither Danielle nor Kelly Kelly will be the next Trish, because WWE does not really build up women.
Trish had mic time, even with Test and Albert. The Jericho-Christian love angle let her show even more of her personality. Current Divas do not get this time.
WWE obviously only tolerates Divas and does not try to build the division into something better (and more profitable). Hard to build a wrestler or entertainer when they are only there for the skin.
There is also no 'Lita' to build up against. There always has to be somebody to work with and against. Hogan working against Koko B Ware or Brutus would not have become Hulkamania. He needed a Piper. Certainly WWE wouldn't build up two divas on the same show.
Of course this also shows how Impact is throwing away a competitive advantage with the Knockouts. They appear to be using Karen and Gail as WWE and hopefully the face (Mickie) will win and it gets back to some wrestling, but I could be dreaming.

You know, forget about the fact that the Rock is one of the biggest stars in wrestling who knew when to get out.
The guy worked his real job in the morning, flew across the country, and got to the show a few hours before RAW started.
The guy is doing everybody a favor that he doesn't have to do. Vince may want all the appearances, but he would have settled for a one night appearance to promote GI Joe.
Sure it would have gone down nicer if he got there early and shook hands. He could have had a nice dinner and stayed at home to.
Complaining when others are giving stuff up to help never sounds good. It does speak of the Rock's interest in wrestling and friendship with Vince that he does all this instead of trying to bury wrestling as the stuff he did in the past because he has to pay bills.

VS#1: Both are very hot but Maryse wins.

Well that was uncalled for: Great discussion.

6: I think it's partly accurate. I think he should have talked to the younger stars if he didn't, but don't think the blame of getting the ME spots is fair. It wasn't Rock demanding this, Vince set it up. I'm fine with it because it is over 1 year span. He isn't doing this until WM 29 or 30, after this WM it will probably be done.

5: She does look like them. I doubt she will be the next Trish and is more likely to be the next Kelly Kelly.

4: No I don't.

BC: Great coverage on Veda and Terra.

Video-A-Go-Go: Good match.

And 1: Leyla is hot.

Whether its shoot or Kayfabe, Orton and Punk are full of shit! They act as if the Rock NEVER paid his dues and is JUST some guy form Hollywood. Do we seriously want to throw Orton and Punk in the era of the Rock and Stonecold!?!?! Do you really want to see those two get BURIED all the way to fucking China!!! Rock fan or not, EVERYONE needs to understand that the "Additude Era" was the BEST era in the WWE (and all of wrestling). The Rock and Stonecold have had ratings of 7.1 and 8.1, when is the last time Punk and Orton have ever been beyond a 3.0????? And finally, how the fuck is it the Rocks fault that after a seven year absence, he STILL gets a bigger pop than the ENTIRE WWE roster today???

Punk, Orton, Cena, get your game up!

CM Punk, Randy Orton, and anyone else who has a problem w/ The Rock need to shut the fuck up. This business is all about drawing power. Dont both of those guys have their own WWE funded bus? If you can draw, you get perks. Thats the bottom line. For The Rock, perks include showing up once every 3 months and still headlining Wrestlemania.

Maryse. These superstars don't realise that they are superstars but clearly the E has a special category MEGAstars. ( Rock,Austin,HBK,Hogan) for the divas its (Trish)fall into that category just to name a few. If Austin was healthy he would make appearances one in a while like the Rock
does.
There will NEVER be another Trish, an this isn't to praise her but more to do with the landscape of the E. Trish was/is a woman who came in with 0 experience but a ton of looks, climbed her way up the ladder gained a huge following an proved (when the E cared about womens wrestling) that she could entertain and do a more then solid job. The push the E gave to divas then isn't the same push they give divas now.

Maryse. Lita is just not consistent enough in the looks department. Sometimes she oozes sex, other times she looks like a hardened man.

Already knew that the WWE would bring in another assembly line broad. At least McCool can hold her own in the ring. Kelly Kelly has been awful since 06, and Danielle shouldn't fair any better, especially with a possible spotlight being put on her.

Never knew that Orton had any animosity towards Rock, when both Rock & Foley put him over at Wrestlemania. People take that "He left us" attitude to heart so bad. If Orton & Cena (and Punk while we're at it) could attain the same amount of success both in-ring and in the mainstream in 7-8 years as The Rock did, they'd be gone a lot too.

The Rock's role in the WWE - Embarrassing himself everytime he opens his mouth. He doesn't seem to have adjusted to the fact this isn't 2002(unlike Austin and others) which is proving the fact that he isn't a very good promo guy as being able to adapt should be an important quality

The Rock WAS funny, he IS NOT funny anymore

Maryse, although early on Lita had that tomboy air that had appeal. In the end she just seemed tired of WWE.
If Impact and presumably Bishoff really thought that "Wrestling Matters" would mean sport entertainment=wrestling matters to their core audience, then they really need to get out of their offices, get their heads out of their orifices, and get to know their audience.
Besides, telling people "we do what WWE does" is not a way to get people to watch. If people want WWE, they will get WWE. It isn't like buying a store brand at the supermarket, it all costs the same to watch.

Some complain about the Rock attacking Cena and his core fan base, but if the Rock didn't do that then Cena would be heading into Wrestlemania as a heel. During the match he would be turned.
By making fun of Cena, WWE makes sure that his core base is even more strongly supporting him while guys didn't like him anyways.
If not then the Rock's charisma would turn kids too.

Ditto what this guy/gal said^

The 6 - Orton and Punk are political operators. You don't rise to the top in this industry without being savvy. Their comments strike me as worked-shoots. They're voicing real feelings from backstage that position them as locker room leaders, but that don't go too far. They're showing their drive to remain on top without saying anything that would piss Vince off or really step on Rock's toes. And, there's the kayfabe bonus/excuse that you were planting seeds for a future match or feud. What we have here is the strategic airing of some mostly-healthy professional jealousy.

I don't remember ever having any wrestling figures when I was a kid. I more remember the Hasbro figures than the LJN ones, especially the commercials involving Ultimate Warrior and Brutus Beefcake. I don't think I'd have minded having them, but I guess I was too preoccupied with Transformers, GI Joe, and Ninja Turtles.

I guess I'll have to take Lita over Maryse, though it's a tough one. But even if Maryse wins, Lita will always be Miss Congeniality.

Now as for this gem:

Maryse. Lita has a unique quality which would beat out most women, but it doesn't measure up to someone like Maryse.

I agree with your comments and most other comments on The Rock. It's strictly business. The Rock was part of a huge boom when wrestling was intensely mainstream, whereas now it's more outside and niche-like (even though it still generates a shitload of money). Cena, Orton and Punk are struggling to become a name like Rocky, which is just a sign of the times and, sometimes, WWE's lack of foresight.

Regardless of that, I severely doubt there will be another wrestler who can pop ratings or be more over than The Rock. He is the Hulk Hogan of modern wrestling and really is doing the WWE a FAVOUR by coming from a filming schedule to do a live show.

Orton and Punk are just a little too egotistical in this regard, and while I can understand how they've been slighted (for reasons previously stated by yourself), making it a public issue only makes them look bitter.

It's impossible to say if someone like Danielle will be the next Trish. Let's face it, Trish was incredibly lucky to become so popular and got a LOT of screen time with T&A, as Vince's personal assistant and more before becoming a good wrestler. Her character helped establish her with the audience before she started wrestling a lot. Much like when Tajiri was first brought in as Regal's assistant, the guy was super-over for a long time because of his previous character.

The bottom line is, it depends on how the WWE handle her, and I assume she'll be handled like all the other Divas. For that reason, there won't be another Diva that will achieve the success Trish did.
