Hidden Highlight (n) – a small, hardly noticeable point that makes a big, positive difference. This could be anything from a wrestler putting extra emphasis into his moves to make it believable to a person in the background reacting while not the focus to the cameraman shaking the picture to create an effect. There are just so many unsung heroes of wrestling that it is impossible to cover them all.

And with that, welcome to Hidden Highlights. I am your host, Dimitri Dorlis. Each week on Hidden Highlights, we’ll be looking back on the week of wrestling, taking a look at our top 3 highlights from each of the major wrestling shows (Raw, Impact, and Smackdown) and a ppv if one occurs.

Also, as with the original Hidden Highlights, we’ll also take a look at reader-submitted highlights, and post our favorite ones at the end of the columns. How do you get your submissions in to me? Well, you have two options. The recommended option would be to send me an email at [email protected] with the title Hidden Highlight. The second option would be to leave a comment here with your highlight, although I can’t guarantee that I’ll read all the comment highlights, so if you really want to get your submission in, send me that email. The best 10 submissions will get posted, so make them good!

And with all the housekeeping out of the way, let’s get down to business.

4. Blast from Brock’s past – There were so many little things in that first Brock highlight video, featuring Brock’s first match. Not only did I remember loving how that match was booked, but look who was the referee: the newly-former Smackdown GM Teddy Long. Another great thing is that the highlights feature Brock Lesner beating up current TNA employees Jeff Hardy, Kurt Angle, and Hulk Hogan. That wasn’t very subtle, was it?

3. Paul Bearer is unkillable – Quick, let’s list out some of the ways that Paul Bearer has been killed:

– Buried in concrete
– Face burned by a fireball.
– Shoved off a ladder onto a concrete floor.

So really, what was leaving him a freezer going to do? As a bonus highlight, I love how Paul Bearer was still in a wheelchair, considering the last time we saw him, he was in a wheelchair.

2. Alex Riley loves alcohol – Hey, remember when Riley got a DUI 2 years ago? I have to think that having him be the one to tell Jericho that Punk was drinking was a subtle reminder of that fact. It was also a subtle way to get him on tv. AIN’T THAT RIGHT, CURT?

Terrific.

1. CM Drunk is clever – Two highlights from the CM Punk sobriety test. One, Punk still managed to say the alphabet wrong on his final attempt, as he went “Z, Y, X, W, V, U, S, T.” Second was Punk cribbing off of Ziggler while walking in a straight line. He started to strut, and even did the hair flick.

Going the extra mile – So, Bischoff lost the Lethal Lockdown match, which meant he’s off of Impact and his name is no longer useable. So, give credit to the TNA video people for going the extra mile here by blurring out Bischoff’s name in his Titantron. Also, this isn’t a highlight, but Bully Ray sneaking up behind Borash and low-blowing him, followed by Bischoff continuing his rant in stride was amazing.

Cole was really happy with that table – Cole actually mentioned this, so it wasn’t exactly hidden, but I love the fact that they used the same table from the Cole Mine for Teddy Long’s announce table. Also great? All the signage advertising People Power that got plastered on the announce booth. And to celebrate, here are a couple screengrabs of Teddy Long and his nametag.

That second one may be my favorite.

Reader Highlights

ausjimmy gets us started with….wait.

Dunno if this was brought up, but on the 09 April Raw, there was a scene inside John Lauranitis’ office.

He had the “Colonel Sanders” suit mounted on his wall under a plaque that said “01 April 2012”

Didn’t we already cover that one? Why yes, a reader already did, but we here at Hidden Highlights love John Laurinaitis so much that we will mention him whenever possible.

Raykun brings up another HH favorite, Chris Jericho.

Possible HH from this week’s “Raw” – at the end of his promo, as he was about to step through the ropes, Chris Jericho stopped, looked at the camera, and mouthed the words “pipe bomb” as he threw down the mic.

And finally, we have two other people who watch Impact, bringing the total number to four (DeMarco and myself cry in each other’s arms on a weekly basis). First up, Hyde Hill

Last weeks Impact: Morgan doing a good face in peril in the tag match while being the big guy and Aries being the one to do the house on fire comeback.

AJ Styles short promo, you actually believed what he said, and his body language once Flair came out.

Bleeping out Eric Bischoff’s last name.

And here’s the always-recognizable Guest#0639

During the second tag team meeting with Hogan, he says to the three teams “Thank you for coming back so soon.” Daniels, in his great suck-up manner, immediately replies “You’re welcome, Hulk.” Just before the camera cuts, you can catch Kazarian doing a double take at his partner and shaking his head as if to say “Good grief man, do you have to lay it on so thick?” Totally cracked me up.

And with that, the 11th edition of Hidden Highlights v2.0 is in the books. Make sure to send in your reader Highlights so we can return this to being the most reader-inclusive and positive article in the IWC.
