1937 - Bronko Nagurski beats Dean Detton in Minneapolis, MN, for the NWA (Minneapolis) World title. The Ring
magazine recognizes Nagurski as the one true world champion.
1942 - Gus Johnson beats Mel Peters in Nashville, TN, to win the Tennessee version of the World Junior Heavyweight
1950 - Eddie Williams beats Jack O’Reilly in Portland, OR, for the Pacific Coast Light Heavyweight title.
1959 - In Dallas, TX, Zebra Kid beats Golden Giant for the NWA Texas Brass Knuckles title.
1961 - Pepper Gomez and Dory Dixon win the NWA (Amarillo) World Tag Team titles from Duke Keomuka and Tony
Martin in Houston, TX.
" - The skies opened up, and the gods loosed the principles of destrucity upon the earth, as The Ultimate Warrior
1963 - Crack open a beer and your forehead in honor of Sandman’s birthday.
1967 - El Mongol wins the NWA Georgia Heavyweight title from Buddy Fuller in Atlanta, GA.
1969 - Tojo Yamamoto and Johnny Long win the NWA Southern Tag Team titles from Johnny Walker and the Sundown
Kid in Memphis, TN. Johnny Walker would later be known as Mr. Wrestling II.
1971 - Alberto Torres dies after being injured three days earlier during a tag team match against Ox Baker and The Claw
in Verdidge, NE.
" - Suni War Cloud and Steven Little Bear beat Ripper Collins and Mad Dog Mayne in Honolulu, HI, for the NWA
Hawaii Tag Team titles.
1975 - Karl Von Steiger & Otto Von Heller beat Tojo Yamamoto & Jimmy Golden in Memphis, TN, for the NWA Southern
Tag Team titles.
" - Guy Mitchell and Ricky Hunter win the NWA Canadian Tag Team titles in Vancouver, BC, from Gene Kiniski and
1978 - Ed Wiskoski (Col. DeBeers) wins the NWA Pacific Northwest title from Jerry Oates.
1986 - Two weeks after winning the AWA Southern title and then being stripped of the title, Buddy Landell wins a
tournament for the same title, beating The Flame in the tournament final. Less than two weeks later, Landell would leave the area, and the title would be vacant again.
" - Buzz Sawyer wins the WCCW Television title from Chris Adams in Ft. Worth, TX.
1993 - Ted DiBiase and Irwin R. Schyster regain the WWF Tag Team titles from Rick and Scott Steiner in Rockford,
1995 - Aero Flash beats Fighter in Netzahualcoyoti, Mexico, for the WWF Light Heavyweight title.
1996 - WCW Great American Bash is held in Baltimore, MD. World Champion The Giant beats Lex Luger in the main
event. Also during the card, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash accept the challenge from Eric Bischoff to a six-man tag match at the next month’s pay per view, Bash at the Beach, then attack Bischoff, finished by Nash power bombing Bischoff through the stage.
2000 - Three days after the resignation of six members of the board of directors from AJPW, Mitsuharu Misawa
announces the formation of a new group, Pro Wrestling NOAH, and also announces 24 wrestlers are leaving AJPW to join him.
" - Nueva Generacion (Ricky Banderas & Nuevo Gran Apolo) win a four-way match against Starr Corporation, Sexy &
Sensual (Shan Hill & Andres Borges), and IWA Tag Team champions Club WWF (Andy Anderson & Steve Bradley) in Aguas Buenas, PR, to win the IWA Tag Team titles.
2001 - Hombre Dinamita wins the IWA Hardcore title from Zaruxx in Bayamon, PR.
" - One Man Gang is stripped of the WWC Hardcore title when his flight is cancelled. El Nene beats Carlos Colon in
Carolina, PR, to determine the new champion.
1943 - Orville Brown beats Lee Wyckoff in Kansas City, KS, for the MWA World title.
1947 - Sandor Szabo beats Cliff Gustafson in Minneapolis, MN, to win the NWA (Minneapolis) World title.
1957 - Cyclone Anaya beats Tor Yamata in Birmingham, AL, for the NWA Southern Junior Heavyweight Title.
1960 - Following a match between NWA Southern Heavyweight champion (Georgia version) Ray Gunkel and the Mighty
Yankee in Atlanta, GA, the title is held up.
1963 - Moose Cholak beats Fred Blassie in Albuquerque, NM, to win the IWA World title.
1964 - Tony Borne and Pat Patterson beat Nick Bockwinkel and Buddy Mareno in Salem, OR, for the NWA Pacific
Northwest Tag Team titles.

1982 - Pvt. Don Kernodle and Pvt. Jim Nelson beat Porkchop Cash and Iceman King Parsons in Roanoke, VA, for the
NWA Mid-Atlantic Tag Team titles.
1984 - Jake Roberts beats Ron Garvin in Atlanta, GA, for the NWA World Television title, but is immediately stripped of
the title for using a foreign object. Garvin would regain the title in a rematch.
1985 - Mike Rotundo and Barry Windham beat The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff to gain revenge from their defeat at
WrestleMania and regain the WWF Tag Team titles in Poughkeepsie, NY.
" - Ron Fuller beats Lord Humongous for the NWA Alabama Heavyweight title.
" - Stan Lane and Steve Keirn beat Ron Sexton and Billy Travis in a tournament final in Memphis, TN, to win the
vacant AWA Southern Tag Team titles.
1986 - Antonio Inoki beats Andre the Giant by submission in Nagoya, Japan.
1989 - TNT beats Abudda Dein I San Juan, PR, for the vacant WWC Television title.
1993 - WCW Clash of the Champions XXIII is held in Norfolk, VA. In the main event, Ric Flair and Arn Anderson
defeat Brian Pillman and Steve Austin in two straight falls.
1996 - Flex Kavana and Bart Sawyer beat Jerry Lawler and Bill Dundee in Memphis, TN, for the USWA Tag Team titles.
1999 - Public Enemy win the NWA Tag team titles in Bolton, MA, by beating Knuckles Nelson and Rick Fuller.
2000 - Jesus Cristobal beats Israel Feliciano in Humacao, PR, to win the IWA Junior Heavyweight title.
" - The New Texas Outlaws (Austin Rhodes & Ricky Murdoch) beat V-Man and Sniper for the NWA Southern Tag

1951 - During a rematch for the NWA Texas title in Ft. Worth, TX, Miguel Guzman is awarded the title when Sonny Myers
interferes on behalf of champion Wayne Martin.
1962 - Mitsuharu Misawa is born, and Satoru Sayama lets him use his old diapers.
1965 - Stan Stasiak beats Mad Dog Vachon for the NWA Pacific Northwest title in Portland, OR.
1969 - Pedro Morales wins the NWA (Hawaii) North American title from Gene Kiniski.
" - Big Vito is born. His parents tell his Godfather.
1970 - Bruno Sammartino becomes a double title-holder again as he and Dominic DeNucci beat The Mongols in
Pittsburgh, PA, for the WWWF International Tag Team titles.
1971 - The Fabulous Kangaroos win the WWA Tag Team titles in Indianapolis, IN, from Wilbur Snyder and Moose
1974 - Steve Boz is born.
1977 - Ivan Koloff wins the WWA World title from Dick the Bruiser in Indianapolis, IN. On the same card, Jimmy and
Johnny Valiant win the Tag Team titles from Moose Cholak and Paul Christy.
" - Hercules Ayala wins the WWC Puerto Rican title from Hurricane Castillo in Caguas, PR.

1995 - WCW Great American Bash is held in Dayton, OH. In the main event, Ric Flair defeats Randy Savage. Also
on the card, Sting beats Meng to win the vacant United States title, and The Renegade wins the Television title from Arn Anderson.
1936 - Former World champion Jim Browning dies in Rochester, MN, from a pulmonary embolism.
1939 - Leroy McGuirk beats John Swenski in Hollywood, CA, to win the NWA Junior Heavyweight title. He would hold
this title for almost eleven years.
1959 - Fred Blassie beats Dick Gunkel in Atlanta, GA, to win the NWA Southern Heavyweight title (Georgia version) for
the ninth time.
1971 - Kurt and Karl Von Brauner win the NWA (Mid-America) World Tag Team titles from Jackie Fargo and Jerry Jarrett
in Chattanooga, TN.
" - Bonnie Watson wins the NWA Florida Women’s title from Ella Waldek in St. Petersburg, FL.
1973 - Lou Marconi is born. The "Beefstew" part comes later.
1976 - Tank Patton and Super Intern beat Pat O’Connor and Akio Sato in St. Joseph, MJO, to win the vacant the NWA
Central States Tag Team titles.
1978 - Dusty Rhodes beats The Spoiler for the Florida Heavyweight title in West Palm Beach, FL.
1979 - Pat Patterson beats Ted DiBiase in Allentown, PA, for the WWWF North American championship.
1983 - "Rock and Roll" Buck Zumhofe beats Mike Graham in Hamburg, MN, to win the AWA World Light Heavyweight
1986 - After the IWGP Heavyweight title was declared vacant one month earlier, Antonio Inoki beats Dick Murdoch in
a tournament final in Tokyo to regain the title.
1993 - In St. Louis, MO, Rick and Scott Steiner regain the WWF Tag Team titles from Irwin R. Schyster and Ted
" - Mohammad Hussein and Dusty Wolfe beat Ray Gonzalez and Ricky Santana in Bayamon, PR, for the WWC Tag
1994 - WWF King of the Ring is held in Baltimore, MD. Owen hart beat Razor Ramon in the tournament final.
1999 - Two days after losing the NWA Tag team titles to Public Enemy, Knuckles Nelson and new partner Dukes
Dalton win the titles in Dorcester, MA. On the same card, Jeff Mangles beats Jay Jaillet for the NWA New
England Junior Heavyweight title.
2000 - In a sign of the bad things to come, the WWF Hardcore title goes from Crash Holly to Gerald Brisco to Pat
" - Co-WCW Hardcore champion Big Vito beats co-champion Johnny the Bull in Billings, MT, to become the sole
2001 - The Dudley Boyz beat Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit in Orlando, FL, to win the WWF Tag Team titles.
2002 - At the inaugural NWA - Total Nonstop Action card, in Huntsville, AL, Ken Shamrock wins a "Gauntlet for the
Gold" battle royal to win the vacant NWA World title. Also on the card, AJ Styles beat Low-Ki, Jerry Lynn, and
Psicosis in a four-way match to win the new X Division title.
1946 - Bobby Bruns wins the MWA World title by beating Orville Brown in Kansas City, KS.
1952 - Angelo Martinelli wins the Georgia version of the NWA Southern Heavyweight title in Atlanta, GA, by beating Al
1953 - Sugi Sito wins the NWA World Middleweight title when he beats Tarzan Lopez in Mexico City.
1957 - Koko B. Ware is born. No word on when Frankie was hatched.
1960 - Tor Yamata and Mr. Moto beat Mike Clancy and Oni Wiki Wiki in Birmingham, AL, for the NWA (Mid-America)
World Tag Team titles.

1983 - Man Mountain Link beats Jerry Lawler in Memphis, TN, to win the AWA Southern Heavyweight title.
1987 - The Hunters beat Miguelito Perez and Tony Atlas in San Juan, PR, to win the WWC North American Tag Team
titles. The Hunters hold the title until it is eliminated in November 1987.
1991 - The Bruise Brothers regain the NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team titles from Steve Doll and Jimmy Jack Funk in
1992 - WCW Beach Blast is held in Mobile, AL. In the main event, Tag Team champions Rick and Scott Steiner and
Terry Gordy and Steve Williams went to a draw. Also on the card, Scotty Flamingo won the Light Heavyweight title from Brian Pillman.
1995 - Raven and Stevie Richards beat Public Enemy in Jim Thorpe, PA, to win the ECW Tag Team titles.
1997 - Buh Buh Ray and D-Von Dudley win the ECW Tag Team titles in Waltham, MA, from The Eliminators.
2000 - Rikishi wins the WWF Intercontinental title from Chris Benoit in Memphis, TN.
2002 - www.wwe.com posts the following message: "World Wrestling Entertainment welcomes back Vince Russo to
the creative writing staff." He is later demoted to at-home consultant, and leaves the company before signing a contract.
1956 - Wrestling from Washington, DC, broadcast on Channel 5 and promoted by Vince McMahon, Sr., is broadcast
live from Capital Arena for the first time. The show had previously aired from a Channel 5 studio.
1957 - Pepper Gomez and El Medico win the NWA Texas Tag Team titles from Duke Keomuka and Tokyo Joe in
1963 - Pepper Gomez beats Bill Watts in Houston, TX, for the NWA Texas title.

1999 - Martha Hart, widow of Owen Hart, files a wrongful death lawsuit against Vince and Linda McMahon, Titan
Sports, Amspec Inc., Lewmar Ltd., Lewmar Marine Ltd., Lift-All Ltd., various harness operators, and the city of Kansas City, MO. Also, Bassam Al Othman files a $1 million suit against the WWF for unauthorized use of the clip where he was attacked by Vader during a Kuwaiti talk show.

2002 - Steve DeMarco beats J.P. Black in North Richland Hills, TX, for the NWA Texas title. On the same card, Justin 2
Fine and B.J. Turner win the NWA Texas Tag Team titles from Blackbird Posse.
1948 - Cliff Gustafson beats Sandor Szabo in Minneapolis, MN, to win the Minneapolis version of the NWA World title.
Gustafson would retain the title until his retirement in May 1949.
1960 - Duke Keomuka wins the NWA Texas title in San Antonio, TX, from Torbellino Blanco.
1963 - John Tenta, aka The Canadian Shark Avalanche Earthquake Guy, is born.
1967 - Moondog Mayne wins the NWA Pacific Northwest title from Luther Lindsay.
1970 - The Interns beat Al Greene and Frank Martinez in Memphis, TN, to win the NWA Southern Tag Team titles.
1974 - Carlos Colon wins the WWC North American title from Gil Hayes in Caguas, PR.
1978 - Steve Rickard beats Toru Tanaka in Auckland, NZ, for the British Empire/Commonwealth Heavyweight title.
1979 - Tony Charles beats Kevin Sullivan to win the United States Junior Heavyweight title in Knoxville, TN.
1980 - Ray Stevens and Jimmy Snuka beat Rick Steamboat and Jay Youngblood in Greensboro, NC, to win the
NWA Tag team titles.
1985 - The New Zealand Sheepherders, Jonathan Boyd and Rip Morgan, beat Steve Keirn and Stan Lane to win the
AWA Southern Tag Team titles in Memphis, TN. The Sheepherders are later stripped of the titles, but the belts are returned when they threaten to sue.
1987 - The Bullet, teaming with Scott Armstrong, pins NWA Alabama Heavyweight champion Mike Golden, teaming with
Tom Prichard, in Birmingham, AL. According to the pre-match stipulations, Bullet wins the title.
1990 - Bill Dundee regains the USWA Southern title from John Tatum in Dallas, TX.
1992 - WCW Clash of the Champions XIX is held in Charleston, SC. In the main event, Steve Williams and Terry
Gordy beat Rick and Scott Steiner in the second round of the NWA Tag Team title tournament.
1994 - Dutch Mantel beats Ray Gonzalez for the WWC Universal title in Tola Alta, PR.
1996 - Chris Jericho beat Pit Bull II in Philadelphia, PA, to win the ECW Television title.
" - El Samurai wins the WWF Light Heavyweight title from Great Sasuke in Naruko, Japan.
1998 - Joey Styles files suit against the WWF for unauthorized use of his image in a Steve Austin video.
2000 - In Somerville, MA, Whacko defeats Brian Day, Jay Kobain, and Wagner Brown in a four corners match for the
vacant NWA New England Heavyweight title. On the same card, Jason Rage, Wagner Brown, and Luis Ortiz beat the teams of Nemesis and Scarecrow and Muhammad the Butcher and Gino Martino in a triangle match to win the vacant NWA New England Tag Team titles, Vince Vicallo beats Tiger Fang, Dan Bidondi and Luis Ortiz for the NWA New England Junior Heavyweight title, and Mike Johnson beats Trooper Gilmore to become the first NWA New England Brass Knuckles champion.
2002 - The WWE Hardcore title goes from Bradshaw to Raven to Spike Dudley to Shawn Stasiak and back to
Bradshaw in Cincinnati, OH.
" - Ricky Santana wins the WWC Caribbean title from Rico Suave in Cayey, PR.

1989 - Tom Prichard beats Wendell Cooley in Knoxville, TN, to win the CWF Heavyweight title.
" - Robert Fuller and Brian Lee win the WCCW Tag Team titles from Jeff Jarrett and Mil Mascaras in Dallas, TX.
1990 - Juice Patrol beat U.S. Male in Portland, OR, for the NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team titles.
" - Rex King and Joey Maggs win the USWA Tag Team titles from Tony Anthony and Tom Burton in Memphis, TN.
1992 - The Super Destroyers beat The Night Breed in a four-team final to determine the first ECW Tag Team
champions in Philadelphia, PA.
1996 - In the final of the WWF King of the Ring tournament in Milwaukee, WI, Steve Austin beats Jake Roberts. After
the match, Austin makes the famous "Austin 3:16" speech that kick-starts the "Stone Cold" character. Also on the card, Ahmed Johnson wins the Intercontinental title from Goldust.
2000 - Trailer Park Trash beats Flash Flanagan in Louisville, KY, to become the first OVW Hardcore champion. On the
same card, The Disciples of Synn, Slash and Damian, beat Scotty Sabre and B.J. Payne for the Southern Tag Team titles.
2001 - Huracan Castillo Jr. & Miguelito Perez win the IWA Tag Team titles from D-Lo Brown and Shane in Bayamon, PR.

Team titles. Baba and Tsuruta are the last champions before the promotion closes in October 1980.

1982 - In what was later chosen by many as "Match of the Year," Jimmy Snuka tries his "Superfly" dive from the top
of a cage in a match against Bob Backlund in New York. Backlund moved and crawled out of the cage to retain his WWF World title.
1986 - Stan Hansen is scheduled to defend his AWA World title against Nick Bockwinkel in Denver, CO, but refuses to
wrestle and leaves the building. He is stripped of the title by the AWA board. Also in the AWA, Sherri Martel
