411’s Roundtable Preview: TNA Slammiversary XI

June 1, 2013 | Posted by Larry Csonka

WELCOME:
Welcome back to the latest edition of the 411 Roundtable preview. Since the last time TNA hit PPV, Bully Ray was revealed as the leader of Aces and 8s. Along with his brother Devon and their gang brothers, the group have ruined the landscape of TNA, embarrassed general manager Hulk Hogan, his daughter, Sting and all of the heroes of TNA. Sting manages to earn a title shot and will challenge Bully for the title in a no holds barred match, but if he loses, he will never be able to challenge for the title again. Can Sting be the savior of TNA one more time, or will the Aces and 8s continue to rule TNA? The Tag Titles, TV Title and X-Division Titles are also on the line with a big elimination tag match, Park vs. Devon and the return of Ultimate X. Lets meet the staff and break down the card…

    THE BREAKDOWN

     photo ppv2_zps16d4aac3.jpg

Michael Weyer: Can there be a bad match between these two? I don’t think so. The build has been good with AJ’s new attitude and Kurt going wild, always a good thing. The battle should be terrific, a great match of technical and brawling and I figure they’ll give AJ the win although hopefully not pushing the Aces & Eights thing more. Either way, it should be a highlight of the night for us all.

    Winner: The Phenomenal One

Jericho Ricardi: This should be, easily, the match of the night. Styles has a less flashy move set than he used to, and it’ll be interesting to see how his new power-based offense works out in another match. AJ had a great match with James Storm after he returned a while back, so having a great match with Angle should be no problem.

    Winner: AJ Styles

James Wright: Is it just me or should the segment of AJ’s ‘patching in’ have taken place after this match? Either way I see AJ going over but if the Aces & 8s had interfered on his behalf, this leading to his win and then following ceremony, then his double turn would have been all the more surprising. As it is we know that AJ isn’t with the Aces & 8s so why does he have to fight Angle at all? I expect a good match no matter what but I am also concerned about the very possible threat of some Aces & 8s shenanigans, I just hope they don’t spoil the proceedings.

    Winner: AJ Styles

TJ Hawke: If you’re one of those people who is into “star ratings” and “movez,” then maybe you will be into this. I, on the other hand, care about stories. Give me something to sink my teeth into (ie: the TNA World Title match). Moving on, nothing to see here.

Winner: Who cares? I guess AJ.

Jonathan Sullivan: Kurt Angle wrestling against someone who isn’t a scrub? A revamped AJ Styles who not only has changed his gimmick but has changed his moveset to fit the gimmick? Sign me right up. Although this is a match we have seen many times before, Styles’ new ground and pound (and submission finisher) should create something at least a little different this time around and I think with Angle finally out of the doldrums and wrestling someone to his caliber (NOT Wes Brisco) he’ll be motivated to throw down. This is being hailed as the co-main event of the show and I think wrestling-wise it will live up to that…and it’ll give Styles a big win heading into what I assume will be his big push back to the TNA World Heavyweight Title.

    Winner: AJ Styles

Dino Zuko: This is a sure thing as far as match quality, but I’m wondering if this AJ Styles storyline that I personally find boring is going to hamper things. I’d expect some shady shenanigans from the once Golden Boy to take it from Angle and keep this going.

    Winner: AJ Styles

Larry Csonka: It all depends on the booking, but an AJ Styles vs. Kurt Angle match has every chance to steal the show. Angle has been working less as of late and has had a chance to heal up, plus the guy always delivers on PPV. You can say the same about AJ in regards to PPV matches. But again, it all depends on the booking. How much will the new AJ be focused on? How much will be about Angle’s “injured leg?” it’s hard to tell, but this certainly has a chance to be great. AJ should win here.

    Winner: AJ Styles

  • OVERALL: AJ Styles (7-0)

     photo ppv6_zps47e957ac.jpg

Michael Weyer: So they’re suddenly pushing Taryn as this girl likely to snap which gives her a bit more character. But not sure it’s enough to really make this interesting as I doubt they’ll be given much time to do anything. I guess Tayrn gets the win but not sure how meaningful in the long term as she’s still got a ways to get really over.

    Winner: Taryn Terrell

Jericho Ricardi: This feud is still going on? It seems like it started a year ago. Taryn is definitely more over with the audience, so I’ll give her the nod.

    Winner: Taryn Terrell

James Wright: I can’t be the only one who thinks this should be for the title. This rivalry has been building for months now and with Sky injured it would have been better for Kim to take her title as the woman who injured her, rather than having Mickie pull a heel turn and have nothing to do with the title at this point. Then again I have a feeling Terrell is going over in this one so if the title was on the line I wouldn’t be happy at all, so better it go to Mickie then to this bleached blonde bimbo, remember when the KOs division was more than just boobs and fake tan?

    Winner: Taryn Terrell

TJ Hawke: Last. Knockout. Standing. Hell to the yes! I still get pissed off when I think of how poorly WWE treated Ms. Terrell. She is one of the most talented Knockouts, and I can’t wait to see her get the much deserved moment in the sun at Slammiversary.

Winner: HBO television star, Taryn Terrell

Jonathan Sullivan: One of the better Knockouts feuds in recent memory and I’ve enjoyed the work both women have put into it (Kim’s recent love of ring post figure fours, Terrell improving with every match). The “Last Knockout Standing” stipulation is interesting and a good way to cap off the feud. I think Terrell will come out the victor here and she deserves the win (and a Knockouts Title reign in her future…something I never expected to say).

    Winner: Taryn Terrell

Dino Zuko: PleasenotTarynTerrell. PleasenotTarynTerrell. PleasenotTarynTerrell. I really don’t care too much about this feud or match, but Gail Kim is better, so I’d hope she’d get the win.

    Winner: Gail Kim

Larry Csonka: It seems with that with the heel turn of Mickie James and the recent work with Taryn Terrell that they want to make her the new top face in the Knockouts Division. I do appreciate the effort in making a new star as it were, but sometimes you need to just take the best workers and have them feud. Anyway, maybe Terrell is improving, and maybe being out there with Gail Kim will allow them to have a good match. Terrell is the one that they are pushing, and Kim has been made to look like a killer, so a definitive victory for Terrell could do her a world of good.

    Winner: Taryn Terrell

  • OVERALL: Taryn Terrell (6-1)

     photo ppv3b_zps95aaa654.jpg

Michael Weyer: They’ve been selling Aces & Eights as this massive threat but they’ve been lacking in huge victories. This would be the chance to get one but I doubt it, far more likely the TNA guys are able to fire back after so many attacks. It should be fair with Joe and Magnus helping to carry things but reminds you just how damn long this angle has dragged on and the fact they’re facing A-level talent doesn’t make this as big a deal as TNA would like to think it is.

    Winners: Joe, Magnus and Hardy

Jericho Ricardi: This is a match that has the potential to elevate everyone involved. Magnus is a particularly talented wrestler and it’s good to see him in there with Joe and Hardy. I foresee big things for the man. Speaking of talented, hopefully DOC gets a real name (Isaiah Cash?) after this Aces and Eights storyline is over. He’s another guy who could probably become a star if he’s allowed to.

    Winner: The good guys

James Wright: I’ve come to the conclusion that this portion of the Aces & 8s is the antithesis of the Shield. Instead of working great as a unit and being virtually undefeated, they seem to lose every time they team up. And instead of being new talent who will most likely thrive once the group dissolves, these three will most likely fade into obscurity a week after things go down the toilet. Plus there is the return of the surreal smack-head; Jeff Hardy, so you’d better believe he is going to be getting over, let’s just hope he doesn’t get another title shot any time soon, but you know how TNA has a bad habit of letting guys with face-paint near the title when they have no business being there, also where has Matt Morgan disappeared to since he lost to Sting? Man that guy must be pissed!

Winner: Joe, Magnus and the Surreal Smack-head

TJ Hawke: I have to say, I don’t know how I feel about this one. Aces & Eights is one of the more dynamic and interesting stables in recent memory, but I assume TNA wants Jeff Hardy’s PPV return to be a victory. I wonder if Anderson and Hardy will do stuff to play off their Feud of the Year in 2011?

Winner: Jeff Hardy (This is the pick I have the least confidence in though.)

Jonathan Sullivan: Jeff Hardy making his big return after a month and change is the big story here; otherwise this is just another in a series “TNA Vs. Aces & Eights” wars. With Hardy making his return, and this Aces & Eights team comprised of three scrubs (well two scrubs and D.O.C.), I think this will go to Team TNA. At least it should.

    Winner: Joe, Magnus, & Hardy

Dino Zuko: With Jeff Hardy just being announced this last Impact as the partner for Joe and Magnus, you have to wonder what the chemistry will be like for Team TNA. You’d think that Aces & 8’s would have the cohesion and teamwork, but then I remember that Aces & 8’s loses roughly 90% of their matches.

Winner: Joe, Magnus, and that Drugged Up Goof.

Larry Csonka: In a battle of TNA vs. Aces and 8s, we are getting the return of Jeff Hardy. That right there is enough to make me think that the TNA team gets the victory. Could be good, depend on how Brisco and Bischoff do, but the addition of Anderson was a good idea as he seems motivated as of late.

    Winner: Joe, Magnus and Hardy

  • OVERALL: Samoa Joe, Magnus and Jeff Hardy (7-0)

     photo ppv8_zps3b392bdf.jpg

Michael Weyer: Really not that invested in Gut Check to be honest and not as familiar with either guy. Guess Bradley but don’t quote me too much on it.

    Winner: Jay Bradley

Jericho Ricardi: Not familiar with either one of these guys. Then again, Sam Shaw is the one that I’ve heard of, and he seems to have a storyline with Aces and Eights going on. I’ll flip a coin.

    Winner: Jay Bradley

James Wright: Seriously I watch Impact every week and yet I am still having trouble getting a clear picture of either man in my mind. While I appreciate the idea of a new comer getting a shot in the BFG series this whole tournament has only served to underline the lack of talent TNA has picked up so far in their Gutcheck challenges, and when they do find someone, they usually decide to kayfabe vote him out and then have him prance around for several months before he finds some other way to earn a contract, I’m just waiting for Adam Pearce to get involved somehow. Anyway in this one I am going to go for Bradley, because I think he is the heel and I am nothing if not predictable.

    Winner: Jay Bradley

TJ Hawke: I’m not one for independent wrestling, but when I heard that Billy fucking Corgan was starting a promotion, I decided to give it a look. After the first show, I was immediately captivated by Jay Bradley (if I recall correctly, he easily defeated one of the masked goobers from that weird Chikara promotion). Now, I would consider myself to be one of Resistance Pro’s biggest fans, and I have all of their DVDs. Jay Bradley is a future main eventer. Hop on the bandwagon!

    Winner: Jay Bradley

Jonathan Sullivan: Despite getting absolutely no build on the go-home show, I’m looking forward to this match. It’s a chance to see two newer TNA wrestlers go at it and the prize, entry into the BFG Series, is a big one. Will the winner end up being the guy taking all the losses to the more established talent as the series rolls on? Probably. But at least it’s exposure. I’m going with Bradley on this one since he’s the only one of the two to actually have in-ring and mic time on the show. The Boomstick’s a coming!

    Winner: Jay Bradley

Dino Zuko: I dug Jay Bradley the second he showed up on Impact however long ago it was. I dig the boom stick. I dig that he didn’t just show up as some indy jerk trying to make it. He showed up as some dude that is supposed to be there. Jay Bradley all day.

    Winner: Jay Bradley

Larry Csonka: I really wish I could say that I was excited about this match, but the whole gut check thing has been presented so poorly in my opinion, that I do not. These guys have been given next to no TV time, and I will not be surprised if the crowd doesn’t shit on them. Hopefully they can overcome the whole gut check deal and have a good PPV match. I could see Bradley winning and being introduced as an Aces and 8s guy. Although I would not be surprised to see Shaw get it, as a former 3D student, but Bradley also has more experience.

    Winner: Jay Bradley

  • OVERALL: Jay Bradley (7-0)

     photo ppv5_zps2e39ff12.jpg

Michael Weyer: Devon has done nothing with this belt since winning it and TNA seems to forget it even exists. Meanwhile, Park teased an Abyss return but now back to his old character, still this goofy guy who turns into a wrestler with no warning. Shake that up, add in the usual TNA logic and guess we have a new champion just to drive the TV title further into the ground.

Winner and NEW TV Champion: Joseph Park

Jericho Ricardi: The Joseph Park thing is going on a bit long, and I’d like to see Abyss make a big return here to help him get the win. While it’s more likely that this will happen mid-match, it’d be interesting if Park gets taken out backstage before the match and Abyss shows up to take his place. They can do the whole “ref counts out other guy and awards match to the guy in the ring” deal. At the very least, it’ll be worth it to see Devon look shocked when Abyss’ music hits at the 9 count.

    Winner: Abyss

James Wright: Now this one could be quite interesting, although I am begging TNA not to make it a long match, five minutes for Park to morph into Abyss and win the title is more than enough thank you. I certainly enjoy the storyline with Park and Abyss but not so much the wrestling. I also want to see someone else holding the damn belt apart from Devon since he doesn’t seem to actually do anything with it and hasn’t done since he first won the darn thing.

    Winner: Joseph Park/Abyss (New Champion)

TJ Hawke: I don’t get people’s fondness of Joseph Park. Can we just have Abyss back, please? Hardcore legend > “comedic” lawyer.

    Winner: Joseph Park

Jonathan Sullivan: If you wanna talk wrestling quality, this match is probably going to be terrible but I’m still interested to see it regardless. With Abyss sort-of kind-of “returning” I expect his presence to be felt in this match, most likely giving his “brother” the win and his first title. Not only am I looking forward to seeing Joseph Park gleefully celebrate being a champion (and hopefully defending the belt), but I’m also hoping that Bully Ray singling Devon out in his big “don’t disappoint me!” speech on Thursday leads to something. Will Devon, despite being Ray’s brother, get the D-Lo Brown treatment? I hope so. It’d be an interesting route to take.

    Winner: Joseph Park

Dino Zuko: Man, all sorts of ways this can go. Will Park pull it off? Does Abyss show up? Will they finally “reveal” that he’s been both of them the whole time? Will Abyss join Aces & 8’s and cost his brother the match? I think they keep Devon’s engine running strong here, and give Park a loss to send him that much closer to being Abyss full time. Could be 100% wrong. Guess I’ll wait and see.

    Winner: Devon

Larry Csonka: I wish I cared, but I do not. I do not like the Park character, and the TV title has become a joke. Hey, I’m just being honest here.

    Winner: Devon

  • OVERALL: Devon (2), Joseph Park/Abyss (5)

     photo ppv3a_zpsc1aa4178.jpg

Michael Weyer: Storm and Gunner are totally unnecessary as the other three teams are able to do things fine on their own. I love seeing Bad Influence and Roode/Aries feuding on the mic and we know they can all work a terrific match. Tempting to say Chavo and Hernandez retain but Bad Influence should get the belts back to build themselves up again, although it points out how low the tag scene is now to have them all together like this. But heel champs Daniels and Kaz are always good for us all.

Winners and NEW TNA Tag Team Champions: Bad Influence

Jericho Ricardi: This is another match of the night contender. I feel like the addition of James Storm and Gunner is unnecessary; I also feel like the addition of the actual champs is unnecessary. Hernandez is a badass who could be a world title contender if built right, but Chavo still has the aura of a loser from those last few years in WWE. In other words, if this were Roode/Aries Vs. Bad Influence, it’d have a better chance of being an awesome match. As it is, having four teams diverts focus. Still, it should be fun. The winner is totally up in the air, but I’ll go with the team that I think needs it the most. What happened to Aces and Eights going after all of the titles, anyway?

    Winners: Bad Influence

James Wright: TNA, you dopey c*nt, why are the titles even on Chavo and Hernandez right now? Having said that these teams do have a tendency to put on some great matches so it can’t be all bad. I just hope for the love of god that Storm and Gunner don’t win the belts, there is just no need for that. Honestly I don’t care if it is Bad Influence or Aries & Roode that walk out with the belts, just can we please get the unadulterated feud between the two teams since it is something I have been waiting for since the two former world champs got together.

    Winner: Bad Influence

TJ Hawke: It’s so awesome to see Chavo Guerrero (he is in fact related to the late Eddie Guerrero, in case you didn’t know) continue to see success in the pro wrestling business. He is a breath of fresh air on an otherwise stale roster. TNA would be fucking idiots to take the belts off him and Shawn Hernandez

Winner: Chavo and Shawn all the way baby!

Jonathan Sullivan: The tag team division is a shallow wasteland, so much so that they had to invent a new tag team in order to keep this match being the same thing we’ve been seeing for months now. That’s depressing. With said that I think it’s going to be a fun, if overly chaotic, match with some solid wrestling and comedy mixed together. While I could see Storm and Gunner taking the belts and justifying their union, I’d personally rather see either Chavo/Hernandez retain or Bad Influence regain since they are the only legitimate teams in this match and TNA as a whole. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that Bad Influence finally get the belts back though since I have to pick someone. Overall I just hope that this eventually leads to Aries and Roode jumping back into the singles division…though where they would fit in is a different question entirely.

    Winner: Bad Influence

Dino Zuko: I made mention of this in my latest Smart Marks, but I hate the team of Hernandez and Eddie Guerrero’s Nephew. I know that’s super disrespectful to someone like Chavo, but the way he’s been treated and portrayed in TNA is just as disrespectful to me the fan. Chavo is a fine wrestler, but he’s been pretty damn dominant since crossing over. Time for something new. I’d love to go with Cowboy and Gunner, but I’m not sure it’s their time yet, either. Damn. Bad Influence it is!

    Winner: Bad Influence

Larry Csonka: I really, really wish that TNA would invest some real time into the tag team division. I say this because in the past they have done it very, very well. But alas, we have three teams that trade the belts and now Storm and Gunner tossed into the mix. I really believe that if they want to revitalize the division, you do it with a strong heel team, and that is Bad Influence. So because I said that, they will likely give the titles to Gunner and Storm.

    Winner: (I Hope) Bad Influence

  • OVERALL: Bad Influence (6), Chavo and Hernandez (1), Aries and Roode (0), Storm and Gunner (0)

     photo ppv4a_zpsc9c65d78.jpg

Michael Weyer: I love Ultimate X but not sure about this one. King’s reign hasn’t been as great as it should be despite his talent while Sabin’s return has been handled well. It should be a sight with plenty of wild spots and hits to remind you why the division matters. For the winner, TNA is intent on pushing Sabin after so long away and the guy has deserved the belt for a while. Hopefully, he can help revitalize the division as it deserves.

Winner and NEW X Division Champion: HAIL SABAN!

Jericho Ricardi: Add me to the list of people who would prefer that not all X-Division matches be three-ways. This would be more interesting if it were a one-on-one contest between King and Sabin. As it is, I feel like the build has suffered and Suicide isn’t adding a whole lot to the match. I predict Sabin wins, giving him a way to challenge Bully Ray over the Summer.

    Winner: HAIL SABIN

James Wright: I’m actually pretty intrigued by this one, only because both faces have a decent reason for winning the belt and Kenny King is in a pretty vulnerable spot, having held the belt for long enough to establish him as genuine ‘championship material’ and also having faced off against pretty much everyone for the title, although the beauty of these triple threat matches is that nothing ever feels like a really personal feud so facing off against the same opponent on multiple occasions doesn’t necessarily mean that things will get stale. Anyway despite the redebut of Suicide I have to see Sabin winning this one, if TNA are still doing the whole ‘cash in the belt’ thing, which according to Storm they are, then Sabin makes the most sense out of anybody to go for it.

    Winner: Chris Sabin (New Champion)

TJ Hawke: The Ultimate X spectacle is the most original gimmick match in the last ten years. I’m not sure how I feel about Sabin being inserted into the title picture so soon after returning, but I guess I can deal with it. I’m glad they’ve finally found something for Okada to do with putting him back in the Suicide gimmick. Okada showed promise in his first run with the company, and I was starting to feel bad that he hadn’t found much success recently. Should be a strong match.

    Winner: Kenny King

Jonathan Sullivan: Suicide is the third wheel in a match that should just be King Vs. Sabin, since they are the ones who have a real beef together. But hey it’s an Ultimate X match and I’ll never turn my nose at getting a chance to see one go down. King has been a great X-Division Champion, really coming into his own as a character, but with Sabin’s return and the idea of still being able to cash in the belt for a World Title shot reintroduced two weeks ago, I think he’ll walk away the champion leading into a match with Bully Ray (spoiler on who I think is winning the main event) sometime in the summer to give both men something to do. King will win it back eventually though. And Suicide…maybe he’ll stick around, maybe he won’t.

    Winner: Chris Sabin

Dino Zuko: Kenny King is on fire! Well, he would be if this triple threat crap wasn’t keeping him down. Taking on two guys who both returned recently, I’m going to stick with the champ in this one. I still don’t really get why Suicide is even back. Was failing hard twice not enough?

    Winner: Kenny King

Larry Csonka: This will be the 30th edition of the Ultimate X, which debuted back in 2003. King recently got some experience in the match on the One Night Only X-Division PPV, which is a good thing. TJ Perkins has looked good as Suicide, but the lynchpin in this match will be the X-Division veteran, Chris Sabin. Sabin, if my match is correct, Sabin is heading into his 16th Ultimate X match. If anyone can help lay out the match and keep it together, it is Sabin. The story is Sabin’s return and should be about Sabin’s victory, it is simple and easy and exactly what they should do.

    Winner: Chris Sabin

  • OVERALL: Chris Sabin (5), Kenny King (2), Suicide (0)

Michael Weyer: The next time someone moans about Cena on top in WWE all the time, remember that Sting is main-eventing a world title match PPV in 2013. Bully has been much better than expected as the heel champ, really taking off with his late career bloom and that should be allowed to continue. I know that it’s Sting, it’s the big show of the year and the stip seems to back him up too. But even Sting has to know it’s better to put Bully over, no doubt with some cheating but still continue to have him dominate to push A&E more rather than let Sting have another token championship to run with.

Winner and STILL TNA World Champion: Bully Ray

Jericho Ricardi: Is it bad that I’m excited to see Sting wrestle in person, considering that I’m always complaining about old guys clogging up the main event in WWE? I can see Sting winning this match, only to lose it back on Impact. The internet would probably lose their minds if that happened, even though The Rock and HHH traded the title back and forth in mid-2000 without either guy losing any momentum. If anything, the heel coming back and getting “his” title right away would make him look strong. But still, I’ll go with Ray to win this one after Brooke turns or otherwise “accidentally” assists him.

Winner: Bully Ray, following interference from Brooke Hogan

James Wright: I’m saying it right now, if Bully Ray loses the belt to Sting here then I am done with TNA. Absolutely no one wants to see Sting with the belt again and Bully doesn’t need to be chasing the belt at this time. I know that it is almost 100% certain that Sting loses here, even though TNA probably won’t stick to the stipulation, but you never know with these guys, I’m still worried about it being a Hogan-Bully match at BFG rather than a Styles-Bully match, unless somehow Bully drops the belt beforehand and Anderson is holding it for the group at that point, I could accept that, AJ still gets his redemption and Hogan gets some closure with Bully. But anyway this will probably be a match heavily dependent on run-ins, but as long as the story is good then that could still work. Either way the winner better be Bully or this company is fucked.

    Winner: Bully Ray

TJ Hawke: After the miserable failure that was Austin Aries as TNA World Champion, I am glad to see TNA go back to their most reliable main event draw: Steve. Steve Borden is one of the greatest performers in history of entertainment. He’s the only person in TNA history proven to consistently move the needle, merch, and buy rates. He is Mr. TNA. Bully Ray as champ is cute, but the big money is clearly in a Steve vs. Hogan Bound for Glory World Title match. It’s the right thing to do.

    Winner: Steve

Jonathan Sullivan: This match has been given a ton of flack since it was announced, and although I can see where people are coming from (Sting main eventing in 2013 on PPV is a bit ridiculous) I couldn’t think of a better headliner. This match has been building since October and has a ton of history behind it; Sting is the one who got everyone to trust Bully Ray and essentially allowed the company to end up in the hands of The Aces & Eights. It makes perfect sense that Sting is given this opportunity to redeem himself and right the biggest wrong he’s made since joining TNA. The added stipulations are just icing on the cake; the match being a No Holds Barred contest helps hide any weaknesses either man has by adding plunder and weapons and is a more than adequate way to showcase just how intense the feud is (they don’t want to just wrestle for the belt, they want to settle their blood feud by maiming one another). The other stipulation, Sting forfeiting any future World Title shots if he loses, adds some drama and more importantly gives TNA an excuse to keep Sting out of any future PPV main events should Bully Ray win. And frankly Bully Ray should win; a victory over Sting is a massive victory over TNA and Hulk Hogan, destroying the biggest hero the company has and all but ending his reign at the top. It’ll help Bully reach even higher heights as champion and make him look even stronger as the Aces & Eights storyline continues. This will go down as not only Sting’s final PPV main event (at least contending for the belt) but as Bully Ray’s biggest victory as champion leading into a chaotic summer and hopefully a massive Bound For Glory 2013 main event.

    Winner: Bully Ray

Dino Zuko: About 7 years ago, in my old Marking My Territory column, I wrote about how Sting would be forgotten by “today’s” fans, as he was the main guy for a company that died in WCW. Then, a few months later, he returned to TNA. I’ve always taken credit for his return. I loved it when he first won the TNA World Title. I’ve enjoyed every second of it. Sadly, I think his days as a title contender come to an end on Sunday. Unless they go with a DQ or something, and that would be SO WWE of them, and as we know, they’re NOTHING alike! Ah well. I love Sting. But he’s getting bullied on Sunday.

    Winner: Bully Ray

Larry Csonka: I already wrote, in detail, about how I thought that the match was a bad idea. Now with the added stipulation that Sting can never challenge for the title again if he loses, I am not sure that TNA can resist themselves. I have the worst feeling that they put the title on Sting and then build to Hogan vs. Bully. Hopefully I am wrong, because Bully Ray has been great as champion and could be even better with a long run as a truly hated champion. While it isn’t original, I can see the Brooke Hogan heel turn here, and I will accept that as long as Bully keeps the title.

    Winner: Bully Ray

  • OVERALL: Bully Ray (6), Sting (1)
