The 10th Day News Report For 7.27.05 PART II
Posted by Leonard Hayhurst on 07.27.2005

EWR ON 411

Smackdown for 7.28.05

The Basham Brothers hit the Rock ‘em Sock ‘em (double team slingshot suplex) on Rhyno. Tajiri runs in to save and mists Doug before he can go for the pin. As the referee tries to get Tajiri back on the apron, Danny switches places with the misted Doug. Rhyno recovers and goes to pick who he thinks is Doug up. Danny suckers him with a small package, but Rhyno breaks at two and hits a short distance spear to surprise Danny and score the win. (Mathew’s idea on the finish)

Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio are talking in their locker room. Rey is sorry that he ever doubted Eddie. Eddie says it’s ok, he understands. It was a trying time for them all. Rey is glad that Eddie finally talked him into seeking professional help to un-brainwash Melina. Eddie is glad that he finally realized that his niece was still in that shell of a person as Rey always thought. Now the important thing is for them to refocus their energies and win the tag titles back from the Corporate Raiders.

Rob Van Dam sets up the New School Van Slaminator on Matt Hardy. Matt rolls out of the way and RVD splashes himself on the steel chair. DDT to the chair. Matt places the chair over Van Dam and goes up top for the yodeling leg drop. Kurt Angle runs out and shoves Hardy from off the top. This being a hardcore match, Angle’s interference is perfectly legal. He gives Hardy an Angle Slam on the chair and RVD makes the weak cover to retain the new WWE Hardcore title. Angle grabs a mic and tells the downed Hardy that this makes it 7 all between them in their match history (Mathew’s idea).

Mathew wrote a great retirment promo for Eric Bischoff, so that’s what we are going to go with.

"I've come out here tonight, hoping for some respect as I am forced to leave the industry I shaped.

Obviously you people have forgotten who I am. I'm Eric Bischoff. The only man in history to come within a hair's breath of killing WWE. I turned a company that was losing tens of millions of dollars a year into one that made hundreds of millions a year. I led WCW to 82 straight weeks beating WWE. And how?

By giving you people wrestling.

I gave you people the Cruiserweights you enjoy each and every week. Oh yes, Vince McMahon didn't bring you them, I did. I gave you Chris Benoit, Eddie Gurerreo, Dean Malenko, William Regal, Ultimo Dragon, real honest to goodness wrestlers, from America, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Europe, across the globe.

I also gave you the names you loved, I didn't throw them out like yesterdays garbage. Who gave you people Hogan vs Flair first? Why, it was WCW! It was me! Who gave you people Sting vs Savage first? WCW! Me! Who gave you The Outsiders, as opposed to a drug dealer and a trucker? Me!

And then, who gave you the three letters that really changed this business? I know you're supposed to say that Stone Cold and The Rock brought about the last Golden Era, but they didn't. They just continued the real work done by me. And the New World Order.

I've done so much for this business, but I get this reception, I get treated in this way. Why? Because Tommy Dreamer is jealous of me, since I ran a real company, not his held together by spit and duct tape 'promotion' of ECW. Because Shane McMahon is still smarting over how instead of me buying WCW and bringing back to the heights it could have gotten to, should have gotten to, he bought the company and screwed up the biggest golden opportunity in Wrestling History.

So I guess now, I'm supposed to go quietly into the night. I'm supposed to smile, wave, and leave. Well screw that! I was never given the credit I deserve, be it from Ted Turner, from Vince McMahon, from Heyman and Dreamer and the rest of the ECW Mutants, from Shane, from the wrestlers in the back who owe their jobs and their careers to me, to you ungrateful fans.

No-one wants to accept it, but deep down, you people know just what I've done, and how much you owe me. But you don't want to admit it, so you boo me, you pretend that I've done nothing, that I'm just another figurehead.

Well, I'll show you people what this figure head can do. See, before this whole thing with Dreamer and Shane started, I did one final act. I made one final contract. This is my legacy, my lasting impact and my revenge. You people will rue the day you tossed me aside. Because...(and this where I take over) I had my good friend Christopher Nowinski of RAW read over the contract for the match between myself and Dreamer at Vengeance and he slipped in a little clause. If Dreamer would have had his own lawyer check the contract over he would have caught it, but I know he wouldn’t. That clause says that I can name anyone I want as my replacement as the head of talent relations. Their contract is guaranteed, they can’t be fired and they can’t be demoted. Dreamer has to live with what I’ve left him with. Remember sometimes when you lose you win and sometimes when you win you lose.”

A hooded figure walks out from the back and enters the ring. He throws back the hood to reveal himself to be…RAVEN! The crowd goes bonkers. Raven and Bischoff shake hands. Raven takes the microphone.

“I want to thank Mr. Bischoff for this opportunity. And to Tommy Dreamer I have only one thing to say…I look forward to working with you and making Smackdown the best brand that we can together.” Raven gives a shit eating grin. Bischoff golf claps to welcome Raven. He then grandstands to the fans, who boo and sing the “Kiss Him Goodbye” song. Bischoff acts like they are showering him with love and walks off.

Akio tries to armdrag Chavo Guerrero, Jr. but he blocks it and pitches Akio to the floor. He goes to plancha out onto him, but Dawn Marie tends to Akio and gets in the way. Chavo backs off. Akio takes the apron and Chavo goes to meet him. Akio gives him a shoulder block between the ropes and flips over the ropes for a sunset flip. Chavo reverses for two. They break it off and race to their feet. Chavo gets a dropkick. He drags Akio up and whips him into the turnbuckle and gets a back elbow. He locks in Eddie’s Lasso from El Paso. Dawn Marie gets on the apron to distract the referee. Chavo comes over to her and raises his hand. Dawn Marie teases that he wouldn’t hit a woman. He feels Akio behind him and sidesteps so he super kicks Dawn Marie to the floor. Gory Bomb finishes.
Match Rating: 73%

Tommy Dreamer is pacing back and forth while Shane McMahon and a man who appears to be a WWE lawyer goes over the contract from the Dreamer vs. Bischoff match at Vengeance. It appears to be ironclad. Shane berates Dreamer for not having the contract checked out by his own lawyer after the WWE legal department gave initial drafts to both him and Bischoff. Dreamer said he was never good with matters like that. Well then maybe he shouldn’t be in charge of Smackdown. Dreamer stops pacing and stares at Shane. Shane is not going to keep babysitting Smackdown. Until Raven gives him cause to challenge him, he’s going to stand by and let him go. But Dreamer better not give him reason to challenge him either. He wants him to try to foster a better working relationship with Raven than he had with Bischoff. Dreamer runs down the history between him and Raven. Shane shrugs. That was ECW. This is WWE. Act like you deserve to be here.
Segment Rating: 70%

Jamie Noble is readying for his upcoming match. Kid Kash comes in. Noble can’t believe that after all he went through to get his inheritance back the FBI spent all but a couple thousand dollars of it. Don’t worry. Kash has a way to get his money back ten fold. In walks Jim Cramer from the CNBC show “Mad Money.” Boo-yah! Looking like Richard Schiff from the “West Wing” with the energy of Tony Little, Cramer tells Noble that he is going to make him some mad money. Tech stocks are on the rally, oil is expensive, the stock market is down, but it’s not out and neither is Noble. Oh yeah! He blares an air horn. If this guy is the only way he can get rich again, maybe he’d rather be poor.
Segment Rating: 79%

IRS gets on the microphone before the tag team title match. He berates Kid Kash and Jamie Noble for going to Jim Cramer for financial advice. He and JBL are the foremost wheeler and dealers in the WWE. Why didn’t they come to them? Noble offers because it was JBL and IRS who helped Nunzio steal his money in the first place. Touché. The faces control early with their speed and agility. However, the champs use their veteran tag experience and some underhanded cheating to take control. IRS goes for the Write Off on Noble. He twists around and grabs IRS before he can make contact on the flying clothesline and turns the move into a bulldog. He makes the hot tag to Kid Kash. Kash sets up the Money Maker, but JBL comes in and nails the Clothesline From Hell on Kash even though Schyster’s legs partially blocked it. IRS falls on top of Kash and gets the pin fall. The faces clear the ring and the heels back up the ramp holding the tag titles up.
Match Rating: 67%

Kurt Angle doesn’t take Kenzo Suzuki too serious in their match for the US Title. Angle makes a few arrogant covers and Kenzo kicks out. He steps his offense up and starts hooking the leg, but Kenzo still kicks out. Angle gets the Angle Slam and Kenzo kicks out a hair before three. Angle is livid and the straps come down. He locks in the ankle lock. Kenzo makes the ropes. Angle drags Kenzo back. He makes the ropes again. Angle argues with the referee. He tells him to check on Kenzo to see if he continues. Why he does that, Angle grabs his gold medal from the corner and balls it in his fist. Kenzo makes his feet. He ducks a wild right hand by Angle and goes for a desperation leg sweep claw. Angle clobbers him in the ear with gold medal and Kenzo goes down. Angle hides the medal in his tights and then locks in the ankle lock for the tap out victory. Angle celebrates. Matt Hardy runs out and tells the referee what happened. Angle turns to see Hardy and they argue. The ref demands to search Angle, but he refuses. Hardy then attacks Angle and recovers the gold medal from his trunks. The official reverses his decision to a DQ win for Kenzo Suzuki. Hardy tells Angle that this puts him back up 8-7. Angle is pissed. (Mathew’s idea)
Match Rating: 55%

Matt Hardy goes to see Tommy Dreamer. He knows he has a lot to deal with with this Raven situation, but Tommy has always looked out for him since he came to Smackdown and he knows he will stand beside him against Raven. Dreamer appreciates that. Hardy wants just one more match against Kurt Angle. Dreamer grants it for next week. And this is going to be the last match between the two. Their conflict is getting ridiculous and Dreamer has to control Smackdown tighter than he ever has. Hardy says one more match is all he needs.
Segment Rating: 82%

AJ Styles and Kane are in the ring for their match. Before the bell rings, Raven comes out and stops the match. He has to act in the best interest of the wrestlers on the roster as it reflects the best interests of Smackdown. He doesn’t think that the title rematch between Kane and Styles should go down on free television in front of such a dead crowd (they boo and jeer). Only SummerSlam is big enough to hold the rematch. He also thinks the fans deserve something special. The two of them deserve something special to really test their mettle against the other. Kane has to prove that he’s not a fluke champion and Styles has to prove that he wasn’t either and deserves to have the title back. That’s in both of theirs best interest. So the SummerSlam title rematch will be an Inferno match. Kane smiles, while Styles looks disgruntled. They stare down to end the show.

Orlando Jordan reverses a whip from Chris Hero, but then eats foot on a charge. Hero jumps off the second rope to collar OJ for a bulldog. He finishes with the Hero’s Welcome.

Rene Dupree is in the ring and calls out Scott Taylor. Taylor comes out with Lashley and Toland marching behind him. Dupree heard that Taylor admitted to killing Fifi at Vengeance. He just said that because it’s what Chavo wanted to hear, right? Right? Taylor takes the microphone. Yeah, he killed Fifi. That damn dog mocked him and the Commission. It cost him the Cruiserweight Title in a ladder match. It marked all of their failures and erasing the dog from existence has erased those failures. Dupree starts crying. Taylor tells him to buck up and be a man. Dupree tells him to go to hell. That was his dog he killed. Maybe there is one more failure that needs erased. He snaps his fingers and Lashley and Toland attack Dupree and beat him down.
Segment Rating: 67%

The Midnight Outlaws isolate Billy Kidman and beat him down. Holly goes for the Alabama Slam, but Kidman slides out and dives across the ring to tag Big Show. The Outlaws try to double team him. Show picks Gunn up by the scruff of the neck and tosses him into the corner. He whips Holly into him and then charges with an Avalanche on both of them. He choke slams Holly. Instead of going for the pin he tags Kidman and he gets the Shooting Star Press for the win. Show raises his arm in victory and points at Kidman to say he’s the man.
Match Rating: 63%

John Cena cuts a pre match promo on Rico. “Rico is a sicko. Trying to get with the guys and make them say oh-oh. I’m going to tackle him if he tries a pass and then he can kiss my ass.” Rico shrugs, puckers up and goes for Cena’s ass (Mathew’s idea). Cena hits the floor running and Rico chases him around the ring. Cena eventually gets the FU for the win.
Match Rating: 74%

JBL and IRS are talking to Paul London. Now that they’re the tag champions the Bradshaw Corporation has to expand their assets further. That means taking more gold. Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio have made their intentions known to win the tag belts back. That means holding them off. Therefore, they want London to win the Cruiserweight Title from Chavo, Jr. No problem boss.
Segment Rating: 67%

Tajiri goes to mist Paul London, but he ducks and it blinds Shannon Moore. The Idol hits the False Prophet (crucifix powerbomb) on him for the elimination. Tajiri buzz saw kicks The Idol and pins him. As soon as the referee counts three London drops an elbow to the back of Tajiri’s head and pounds on him. London Calling finishes. London gets a title shot at Chavo, Jr. at SummerSlam.

Lady Shini goes for the Five Point Exploding Heart Technique (heart punch) on Gail Kim, but she gets her new copy of the Great Lakes Title rule book in the way and Shini nearly breaks her hand. Kim works over the hand and Shini has to tap out to a wristlock.
Match Rating: 64%

Christian and Trish Stratus are shown getting off of a small airplane as they have just entered the Yellowknife province of Canada. They have been hopping transportation for nearly a week and Trish still has no idea where they are going. Christian is sorry, but he’s just been so worried about baby Shelly. And he’s been ashamed to admit to Trish what he fears. She was ashamed to admit that she had an affair with Edge, but she finally did and there relationship is much stronger. Christian did some dumb things when he was younger and ran with some wrong people. He got mixed up in what one would call a cult early in his wrestling career along with Edge. There were some rituals involved, some blood pacts. He thought they meant nothing, but now they might mean everything.
Segment Rating: 86%

William Regal gets his brass knuckles ready to use the power of the punch on Christopher Nowinski. Regal cocks his hand and Nowinski goes down like a ton of bricks. Regal is stunned and looks at his hand. The referee does too and sees the knuckles. He looks over at Nowinski, shrugs his shoulders and calls for the bell. He DQ’s Regal for using the brass knuckles. Regal protests, but maybe he did hit him. Nowinski smiles as he lays on the mat and pretends to be out.

Paul Heyman invites Randy Orton to the Danger Zone. Orton thanks him for this time to address what he feels is a very important matter plaguing RAW right now. Orton has a lot of respect for true legends and innovators in the business, like Paul Heyman. What he can’t stand is old wrestlers trying to hang on for one last payday and pretending to be legends when they never were. But if they insist on being called legends then they can join the Legend Killer ’05 Summer Tour (Mathew’s idea). And the first stop on the tour is going to be the Great Muta. Muta has the least right to be in the WWE because he was never in the company before. American fans only know him for losing to Sting every few years in WCW. Hell, he was the man who retired Sting (Orton’s version of history of course). And next week he will retire Muta.
Segment Rating: 77%

Cold Steel Val Venis lunges for the Mandible Hook, but Jericho goes low for a drop toehold. Venis gets his hook tangled in the ropes. Y2J gives him a German suplex to break him from the cords. Lionsault leads to the Walls of Jericho, which leads to the submission victory.
Match Rating: 86%

Chris Sabin comes down to the ring for his upcoming tag match. He’s wearing the Hail Sabin Great Lakes Title even though Ultimo Dragon beat him for it last week. Gail Kim grabs a microphone and explains that rule 88 b subsection 4, paragraph 1 states that when a wrestler wins the Hail Sabin Great Lakes Title for the first time they must defend the title 4 times within the first week to prove their worthiness to hold the belt. If they don’t the belt reverts back to the previous champion. Dragon did not do this and Sabin is once again champ by default (Todd’s idea).
Segment Rating: 60%

Ultimo Dragon runs out and battles with Chris Sabin to the back. This leaves David Flair two on one in the tag match with the World’s Greatest Tag Team. Flair cries for Sabin to come back. He falls victim to the leapfrog choke for the loss. Flair kicks and screams and cries and throws a fit like usual.
Match Rating: 65%

Mick Foley goes into Teddy Long’s office. He just got off the phone with new Smackdown head of talent relations, Raven. He’s offered RAW a trade. Foley has written it down and slides the paper to Long. Long reads it. It’s a good trade for Raw. But it’s a bad trade for Tommy Dreamer. He has to consider it.

Daffney screams at Molly Holly and knocks her clean out of the ring. Daffney starts to celebrate the count out victory and then realizes she can’t win the belt on a count out. She goes to the floor to bring Molly back in, but she whips Daffney into the ring post. She hits it throat first and wheezes. Daffney stumbles back into the ring and Molly gets the Molly-Go-Round. Victoria runs out and attacks Molly post match.
Match Rating: 75%

Marissa Mazzolla meets up with Victoria backstage. Why did she attack Molly Holly just now? Hasn’t she been paying attention to the last six months? At every turn Molly Holly has beaten her and humiliated her. Victoria joined Evolution so she could become the greatest women’s wrestler of all time. She realizes it wasn’t the simple act of joining that will do this for her. She has to take on the right attitude. She has to use Triple H as her role model. You act and you act for yourself. You evolve into the superstar you want to be and she wants to be the next Women’s Champion.

Vader leads Luger and Windham in against Orton, Abyss and Richards. Orton seems to take Luger and Windham a bit too lightly. Luger gets a flying forearm on Orton. Richards breaks up the pin. Rob Conway turns the Batista Bomb into a face jam and sets up the Bleep This cradle piledriver. Ric Flair runs into the ring to low blow Conway, but Conway drops Batista and super kicks him to the floor. Batista comes back with a spinebuster, but goes to check on Flair instead of making the cover. Conway comes out with a baseball slide and gets a Stun Gun into the ring wall. My F*cking Finisher (rope assisted neckbreaker) gets the win. Post match Batista seems very ticked off at Flair for inadvertently costing him the win. Flair says that he saved him from a definite loss to start. Batista walks to the back with Flair trailing behind.
Match Rating: 70%

A close up of Edge is shown on screen. He wanted the WWE cameras there to witness the black christening of his daughter, Christy. Edge laughs and said he decided to name her after the one person Trish didn’t sleep with, Christian (Mathew’s idea). He is sure that Christian remembers the blood oath that they made to their leader many moons ago. It pledged not only their souls, but the souls of their children to him for eternity. Edge is in the northern most part of Canada to seek the Brood and make good his promise. He has found them. GANGREL! then steps forward and laughs maniacally while he holds a goblet of blood.
Segment Rating: 69%

Lita and Alexis Laree team up on Victoria. Lita goes for the pin and Laree breaks it up, because it’s not an elimination bout. They slug it out. Laree gets the Jumpin’ Jack Flash on Lita, but Victoria breaks up the pin. Victoria hits the Widow’s Peak and makes the cover. Lita tries to break with the Lita-sult, but Victoria moves and she splashes Laree. Victoria then rolls up Lita and pins her with her feet on the ropes.
Match Rating: 72%

Victoria is in the back protesting that she deserves another Women’s Title shot. She did what Long told her to do by beating Laree and Lita. Long can’t argue that. She’ll get another rematch next week. Victoria smiles smugly. Long adds that it will be a bra and panties match. Victoria protests. Long doesn’t see why she would be angry since everyone saw all her junk in Playboy already. Her in her bra and panties will probably just put people to sleep.

Holy Shit’s It’s Sean O’Haire attacks Afa, Jr. at the bell. He makes the mistake of going for a headbutt. Afa no sells and returns one of his own. O’Haire puts Afa up on a delayed suplex, but he drops behind him out of it for a neckbreaker. Samoan Drop leads to the Coconut Cracker for the win (springboard knee drop to the head).

Marissa Mazzolla is backstage with the Rock. She doesn’t know why they are in a janitor’s closet. Rock tells her to keep her voice down. He doesn’t want Triple H running in on them like he did last week. Triple H has a giant ego, but the Rock is ego. He is the greatest movie star and sports entertainment superstar ever and tonight Triple H will learn that. Rock then turns out the light and we hear some muffled noises. The Rock then turns the light back on and slaps Marissa in the face. Please, he is not that kind of boy. Tramp.
Segment Rating: 97%

Gangrel begins performing the dark christening by covering the baby in blood and saying some ancient chants. Christian flies in out of nowhere and attacks Gangrel. They brawl. Edge goes to help out and Trish jumps on his back out of nowhere. Edge slams her back first into a cave wall to break. Edge takes the goblet of blood and throws it in Christian’s eyes. Gangrel hits the Nail in the Coffin. Edge grabs the baby and Gangrel grabs Trish. Now he has a baby and a black bride. Trish struggles but can’t free herself. The heels leave Christian unconscious.
Segment Rating: 83%

The Rock backdrops out of the Pedigree and goes for the People’s Elbow. Victoria distracts the referee and Steven Richards brains The Rock with the white baseball bat. He drapes Hunter’s arm across the Rock and the ref counts the pin fall. Triple H gets the title shot at Chris Benoit at SummerSlam.
Match Rating: 72%

Evolution is backstage celebrating Triple H’s victory. Teddy Long comes in and tells them to hold up. He doesn’t know how things were like when Eric Bischoff was in charge, but he is in charge now. Triple H might be the Game, but he can’t play a playa, playa. He saw what happened and he’s reversing the referee’s decision to a DQ win for the Rock and he’ll get the title shot at SummerSlam. For all he and Foley put the Rock through during the recent title tournament he has shown to be a more worthy champ than Triple H who gets his toadies to do all his work. Richards looks to swat Long with his baseball bat and he tells him to quit dreaming. Raven offered a trade for his sorry ass to Smackdown. He wasn’t going to take it, but he thinks he will now. Pack your bags Big Stevie, you’re moving to Thursdays. Triple H is livid. He promises to make Long pay.
Segment Rating: 76%

Vader and Benoit have a pretty friendly encounter. Benoit tries to ground Vader with wear down holds while he uses his power to come back. He goes up for the Vader Bomb, but Benoit slips in and counters with a powerbomb off the ropes (Mathew’s idea). Vader fights valiantly but has to tap out to the crossface. Benoit offers his hand to Vader post match. He stares at it for a second then shakes it. The tag partners celebrate.
Match Rating: 63%

Triple H makes a mad dash for the ring by himself. He gets trounced two on one and set packing. He is blinded with rage from what happened backstage with Long. Benoit tells him that if he wants him so bad, he can have him. Next week on RAW, he’ll wrestle him. However, it won’t be for the title. He rather see the Rock hold the belt for a thousand years than to have Triple H hold it for one single minute. Triple H backs up the ramp saying ‘we’ll see about that’ as the show fades out.

Matt Morgan, Danny Gimondo and Jillian Hall all want to be promoted to the full roster. It’s promote or fire.

Gimondo: Over-33 Brawl-67 Speed-52 Technical-70 Charisma-70 His finisher is listed as One Edge Stole

Morgan: Over-70 Brawl-85 Speed-26 Technical-45 Charisma-82 Is menacing. Is loyal to Al Snow

Vince McMahon and Miguel “the Black Cat” Batista have returned from injury

Kid Kash has announced he will retire at the end of August. Why I don’t know. We can of course stop this with the EWR editor, or just let him go.

Melina Guerrero has one month left on her contract. Rehire or let her go?

Cold Steel Val Venis broke his leg and will be out 7 months.

Ivory insulted some of the workers in a phone interview on the radio. I suspended her for a month.

Orlando Jordan could use a change of gimmick. He’s currently listed in the game as a blue chipper. Choose from:

Lackey: This would basically be his current role as a lackey to JBL

Angry Minority: Jordan would get tired of being JBL’s lackey and figures he wouldn’t be if he was white. He breaks loose from him, but stays a heel and plays the race card.

Pimp: Based on advice from IRS, JBL opens a legal brothel in Nevada, the House of Layfield. He puts Jordan in charge of overseeing the facility along with a new diva we would bring in as the madam.

Arrogant: Jordan would smugly brag of his ties to the Bradshaw Corporation and use his fellow stable mates to always interfere in his matches, but brag he won them fair and square.

Country Singer: Jordan would begin feuding with Booker T. JBL would fund an album of Jordan’s to counteract Booker’s rap album. After all rap moguls make a lot of money. However, he is shocked to find out that Jordan is a huge fan of Charley Pride and releases a country album. He starts wearing Nudie suits and carrying a guitar to the ring.

I would just like to share that the writing staff feels that Molly Holly is our top draw in the company and should be the center of all our shows.
