The 10th Day News Report 12.28.05

MAILBAG

In response to Todd's piece about having to own the PSP version of Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 in order to unlock Jake Roberts on the PS2 version, there is a rather "less expensive" way to unlock him without having to purchase a PSP as well as the game.
Go out and purchase any type of "cheat" discs like Codebreaker, Action Replay, & Gmae Shark. Go online to their respective websites and find any codes relating to unlocking all wrestlers and/or items. Sure, you need to pay anywhere from $20-$40 for the disc, but compared to paying $250 for the PSP, then $50 for the game, it's one hell of a bargain!
-Gary F.
Peoria, IL

If you, or anyone else there wants/needs etc… Jake for PS2 I'll be glad to upload a save with him unlocked.

I had a PSP so even though it was an ass lame move by THQ, it really didnt effect me much.
-Chris

"So, Roberts is in the Play Station 2 game, but you have to use the PSP in order to access him for the game? Oh, that would make me DDT somebody on concrete. What I find odd is that they thought Jake was big enough a draw to warrant people spending all that money to use him. I would just be mad I couldn't use him and not get a PSP on principal alone."

You can actually unlock Roberts if you play a full year of the GM Mode. He becomes "draftable" and then you can play him in exhibition mode.
-Chris W.

Thank you everyone for your helpful offers and information on this subject. I would hate to make Chris upload the character for people, so he's a saint for even offering. It seems like there is other ways to unlock him. Hell, this might even make me buy a PS2 now. I've always been one game generation behind anyway.

"Most of the Divas don't do much for me. I do like Trish and Stacy. Candice and Christy have grown on me. Of course, Christy is gone now. It looks like they may need to restock on women. Whatever happened to Leyla from the last Diva search? She was a favorite of mine just from wearing that corset."

Funny you mention Leyla, I just seen her on TV last night, and you can see her every night this week, on that NBC show Deal or No Deal. It is an interesting show. The irony is she found a job where she has to do even less work than Vince was asking. She simply stands there and holds a briefcase.
-Todd

I've been watching that. I knew they had a girl named Leyla, but I wasn't really paying attention. I did wonder if Howie Mandel knew all the girls' names or he had cue cards telling him. Remember, on "St. Elsewhere" Mandel was billed above Denzel Washington. Now look who has the Oscar and who is the game show host.

Any additional comments, whether you find them funny or not, are personal additions and should bear no reflection on the validity of the imparted information or reliability of the source. My uncle used to love me, but she died.

-Matt Striker played the voice of Ric Flair in the sketch on RAW with Edge. I almost thought it was Steve Lombardi. I wonder how the teacher feels about playing the class clown? Credit: PWInsider.com

-Independent wrestlers Xavier and the Outcast Killaz were given tryouts on RAW Monday and played security during the Cena and Angle brawl. The Killaz were also expected to work the Smackdown taping last night. Credit: PWInsider.com

-In your online Heat report Trevor Murdoch beat Mike the Miz. Lance Cade defeated Val Venis in a battle of the mega-jobbers. Tyson Tomko kicked the hell of Jason Saditch in 45 seconds. Viscera flattened Rob Conway. After RAW went off the air Kurt Angle and John Cena had a dark main event that ended by DQ when Daivari attacked Cena and referee Mike Chioda. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Despite the angle played on RAW Monday there are no plans to bring Bret Hart into WWE at this time, at least that anyone is reporting. Hart is currently living in Italy, exiled like Michael Corleone. Credit: WrestlingObserver.com

-Certain cable outlets have advertised Kane vs. Batista for the WWE Title at No Way Out in February. Whether this will be an inter-promotional match, a sign that Kane will win the Royal Rumble, somehow be traded to Smackdown or smoke up our collective asses is unknown. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Smackdown scored a 2.2 rating last Friday. The show was preempted in several markets and was a ‘best of' retrospective so the significant drop is nothing to worry about. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Elijah Burke has asked to be let out of the Team Spirit angle reported on last week for RAW. It's said he simply doesn't care for the idea. It is also said the idea was directly from Vince McMahon. Look who is going to be jobbing in a pink leotard for the rest of his life? Mike Mondo is being mentioned to replace him. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Several new wrestlers will start working for WWE soon. Mike the Miz and Chris Cage will debut as a tag team for RAW working several house show dates against Gene Snitsy and Tyson Tomko. Tatanka is also scheduled to tag with Shelton Benjamin this weekend against the Coach and Carlito. I think I'm the only person that would want to see that match. On Smackdown, Jamie Noble is schedule to return to the brand and Aaron Stevens will debut as Idol Stevens and work a program with Matt Hardy. He's the Idol, huh. I won't say a word. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Booker T suffered a pulled groin muscle at the Smackdown house show Monday night. He will most likely be out for six weeks. Booker T was scheduled to face Benoit at the Smackdown taping to continue their best of seven series. Booker T wasn't even wrestling, Sharmell was just extra frisky. Credit: WWE.com

-Mark Henry was spotted backstage before the start of the Smackdown taping. No word at that time if he was there to appear on the show, but he has been working house shows for the brand. Credit: PWInsider.com

-The trailer for See No Evil starring Kane from WWE films will run with Hostel opening January 6th. In other movie news Terry Funk was spotted in a bit part in The Ringer as a non speaking thug. Credit: WWE.com

-Despite rumors started by Charlie Haas himself, there are no plans for him to rejoin WWE at this time. He apparently left on bad terms due to arguments over his character direction with writer Dave Lagana. He is currently doing a lot of work for Jersey All Pro
Wrestling. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Jakks Pacific will be releasing new WWE action figures this coming March. They come with sets that can be used in the currently on the market WWE ring. It will include Roddy Piper with a Piper's Pit set, John Cena with a concert stage, Carlito with a Carlito's Cabana set, Rey Mysterio with a generic Smackdown interview set and Lita with a VD clinic backdrop. Ok, I made that last one up. An ECW-era Tazz figure is also in talks for a special exclusive release next year too. Credit PWInsider.com

-The third set of TNA action figures are set for production and will be released next year. They include a new Raven and AJ Styles figure, Chris Sabin with the X-Division belt and Monty Brown with nothing in particular. All the figure has to do is stay black and die. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Ron Killings and Monty Brown will all be subjects for future "personality videos" of the kind that was done for Rhyno recently. They will then all promptly job to Jeff Jarrett and go sliding back down the card. The idea is to get the personalities of the wrestlers over in order for fans to more greatly identify with them. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Lance Storm said in a recent online commentary that he would be interested in going to TNA if they had something intriguing for him to do. As a hint he said working with Christian and Chris Jericho would certainly pique his interest. But would Storm pique the interest of fans. Maybe Steve Austin can do a run in on him and fall asleep. Credit: PWInsider.com

-The acquisition of Sting by TNA is said to be indicative of a new drive to get a major licensee to pick up the federation for greater promotion and mainstream exposure. Look for V-8 Stinger Splash on shelves by the summer. Credit: PWInsider.com

-TNA will be handling all outside booking of their talent to independent shows. They attempted this awhile back with little success due to not having strict policy on matters. Credit: PWInsider.com

-In the latest commentary on his personal website Chris Kanyon clears up the matter of his recent dealings with TNA. It was perceived that Kanyon had a falling out with the company when he tried to get more money out of them in order to face Raven at the
November pay per view. Kanyon states it was all miscommunication and misunderstanding on the part of both parties. He assumed that they wanted him to come in for a long running program with Raven, not be the guy to kick of the Raven vs. Larry Zybsko program where Zybsko would bring in people from Raven's past to torment him. Thinking this was a long running angle with him vs. Raven he wanted to negotiate a long term contract. TNA wanted to bring him in for the one match only and then assess him from there. Kanyon states there is no falling out and he looks forward to working with them in the future. Credit: prowrestling.com

-Former ECW owner Todd Gordon is suing WWE over their copyright on the ECW initials, the use of his likeness (there goes that Todd Gordon T-shirt line) and the use of the ECW library during it's Eastern Championship Wrestling period from it's inception to September of 1994. A hearing is set for the end of January. It's not like WWE would not lose a whole lot with that, but it' the principal of the thing with Vince. Credit: PWInsider.com

-It's time for As the Brock Turns. Brock Lesnar filed a lawsuit on December 15th in his home state of Minnesota to prevent WWE from calling his primary lawyer Bradley Olsen as a witness in the ongoing lawsuit Lesnar has over the no compete clause in his release from the company in 2004. Lesnar has a local attorney in Connecticut handling the case there, but Olsen is his primary counsel for all legal matters. The statement says that WWE is trying to call Olsen in an attempt to disqualify him from representing Lesnar in the ongoing matter. Olsen is set to represent Lesnar in the case against WWE, but has not declared himself as counsel due to a trial date not being set yet. On January 3rd a hearing will be held concerning the injunction WWE is seeking to prevent Lesnar from wrestling in Japan. Credit: PWInsider.com

RAW THOUGHTS

-I'm missing the final Monday Night Football on ABC to watch RAW for you guys. Dandy Don Meredith is making an appearance. And it's a Jets vs. Patriots game. I'm a huge Patriots fan. I liked them when they sucked to. I used to have a Hart Lee Dykes jersey.

-Vince should invent a food dehydrator and then host an infomercial. I'm still holding out for Kevin Von Erich as the new GM. Vince knows what is on the Bret Hart DVD, he produced the damn thing. If Bret shows up though I will…actually I really didn't dig Bret that much so if he shows up I'll probably just yawn.

-I would really like to see one of the Elimination Chamber guys get upset and replaced in the match just to prove it can happen. Well, that was the deal last year, but the way the commentators are talking I don't think that is the deal this year. This should be the standard Shawn Michaels vs. big man match. The small of the back is Shawn's Achilles heel. Contemplate that one.

-And Edge stole this bit with the cardboard cutout from Conan O'Brien. I was just coming back in the room, did Flair call Edge Tully as in Blanchard? Because that is funny. I want a T-shirt that says "From Ashton Kutcher to Abdullah the Butcher." Ric should tell Edge that his socks cost more than his girlfriend. He knows because he asked the boys in the back what her going rate is.

-Did they ever explain what happened with Kerwin White? Eddie died and he just went back to being Chavo. I can see that affecting him enough to go back to his roots, but it was never really explained on camera from what I saw. See, after the clock winds down there is no reason for the match to continue. Really, it's pointless for the other guy to even compete because there is nothing in it for him.

-Kurt Angle doesn't really seem to into this new angle. He is a patriotic guy and I don't think they need to turn his character into being Anti-American to drive him forward. It's not that the basic idea rubs me wrong, I just think it's wrong for Kurt.

-Vince is going to make the dog general manager. He could do worse. Torrie for instance. I don't really want to see a Vince vs. Bret match at Wrestlemania and I don't think anyone else does either.

-I want to bitch slap Mickie James into next year. Which isn't that far off. She's just an annoying tard now. And a lesbian tard to boot. Eric Bischoff is gone, but HLA lives on.

-Mike Chioda is going to get his ass whipped at some point in the future. That is a clever way to play things, but it doesn't make much sense. Really, where does Chioda get off in refusing to count the pin? There is nothing against Daivari just taking a dive. It is wrestling. If you're going to do that idea right, have Angle chase Chioda all over the building in an effort to get him back into the ring to count the pin fall. Make it a race. Also, why didn't Angle just put Daivari in the ankle lock and have him tap out? Chioda can't deny that.

-Big Show's first match was a main event and Triple H started out as Terra Ryzin jobbing to Larry Zybsko on WCW Worldwide. Really, which is better there. The best Triple H can come up with is ‘tall guy.' Yeah, Big Show you're a…tall guy. Try insulting someone with that line sometime. Triple H doesn't need any backup, just a pen and a sledgehammer. He crushed the "choke slamming hand of the Big Show." Seriously, I think he can get him up with the left hand.

-Benjamin vs. Cena should be a really good match. It sounds like all the guys are chanting for Shelton and all the girls for Cena. So Cena is a pussy magnet and gays love Shelton. I didn't think that near six minute time of Shawn Michaels was going to hold up, but I guess I was wrong. What was the winning time last year, like 45 seconds? STFU! We used that last week in this column from Mathew for the EWR game. Now Joey Styles is stealing from us. I would have thought better of him.

-I like that they called him Mr. McMahon in grammar school. I don't think fighting in school is a good idea. Vince loves puppies and violence. Matt Striker is a pussy and that is why he is a heel.

-Are they that thin on talent or are they just trying to be cute with having Victoria taking on Carlito. This could actually be a pretty decent match. I hope she wins. That would be cool if she got the Elimination Chamber slot. I don't like what they did with that. I wanted to see them really go at it. And Carlito wasted too much time being a dork.

-Ok, I buy Carlito pulling Victoria, but how does Kane get the Heartthrobs in a handicap match? 28 seconds. I'm sure Lita is impressed with that time. That joke has so many levels.

-Main event DVD review. It sounded like to me that most of the audience caught what Vince said and booed again. I don't see why they're rehashing this yet again, unless there is going to be a payoff. Vince forgot Stan Stasiak. I know he's not notable, but I'm sure if you did ask Vince, he probably forgot him. I think Shawn played that as well as he could. He stayed true to his character while still being the face there. Although there was that turn there in the end where they tried to make him the good guy in the whole situation and that's wrong. Don't think TNA wouldn't catch fire if Shawn Michaels went there.

Smackdown for 12.29.05

Al Snow welcomes Jake "The Snake" Roberts to the Ski Lodge. He asks Jake to clarify his position. As announced last week by Linda McMahon he is the special enforcer for the WWE Board of Directors. What they say goes on Smackdown and he and Lucifer are there to make sure it does go down. The board has several announcements they want Jake to make concerning the Royal Rumble. First off, they will stand by the deal Stephanie made with Scott Taylor to give him and his crew automatic bids into the Royal Rumble match. Additionally, they will be giving automatic bids to everyone who was injured at Survivor Series and/or have been dogged by Steph and her thugs the past few weeks. Second, following Survivor Series Stephanie stripped the US and Tag Titles and awarded them to wrestlers of her choosing. The Board feels it would not be good to strip the titles again, but have booked rematches with the former champions for the Royal Rumble. It will be Matt Hardy vs. John Cena for the US Title and The Basham Brothers vs. Get the Funk Out of My Face for the Tag Team Titles. Third, Booker T has used his special contract stipulation to book his own matches to swing a World Title match against Kane for the pay per view. Booker T will announce the match stipulation himself at a later date. Fourth, Booker helped AJ Styles petition the Board for a special match at the Royal Rumble and they have consented. The WWE Cruiserweight Title will be on the line in a handicap match. AJ Styles vs. Billy Kidman and Torrie Wilson. Lastly, we come to Miss Stephanie McMahon herself. Before Jake can go on, Steph's music hits and she comes out. She tells Jake that the atrocities against her will not stand and that she is in the process of pursuing legal action against the WWE Board of Directors. Let Jake speak for the Board when he says bring it on. Steph tries to continue, but Jake has her microphone cut off. The fans go nuts. Jake says that someone else petitioned the Board for a special match at the Royal Rumble too and they granted it. Somebody wanted Steph herself in the ring and that person is…her brother Shane McMahon! Shane's music hits and he dances down to the ring. Steph goes to slap him. Jake grabs her hand then DDT's her. Shane pulls out Lucifer and drapes it over his sister.

Kurt tells her to shut up. She then asks Eric about his match tonight against Molly Holly. Molly won by cheating at Armageddon. She is a weak woman who should be in the kitchen barefoot, pregnant and making him a meatloaf. This time there is no mister nice guy. No working up to a submission. He's just going to beat her into submission and leave her in the natural position for all women. Flat on her back.
