World Wrestling News Report: 11.15.13

November 15, 2013 | Posted by Aaron Frame

Hey there wrestling fans! Welcome back to another edition of World Wrestling News Report. Like always, my name is Aaron Frame and I will be discussing the news and happenings in wrestling from around the world. I think I have a pretty good handle on this now, but I’m still not where I want to be with it. Work in progress, what can I say?

On a side note, I had my first in-ring training Wednesday night. My entire body just hurts. This has been a dream of mine and the opportunity has presented itself to me so I have taken it. I realize I will never be in the WWE, but I want to do this and have fun with it. Unless something happens, I think wrestling occasionally in Southern California is something I would not mind doing for a long while. As of right now, though, I am not going to say I will be wrestling because I have had only one day of training. There is a long road ahead of me and I am taking it one step at a time.

WWE

Raw

This episode just kind of came and went for me. I did not really care too much for it. There was some good wrestling, but story wise it kind of did nothing for me. The crowd, though, that crowd was awesome. I would have loved to have been a part of it.

Only big take away from RAW was a little insight to Corporate Kane’s….thing. I do not really know what to call this. I am, however, interested to see where the man, Glenn Jacobs, can take this new Kane to. It has potential to be entertaining.

The Ryback split from Heyman seems to be official. Oh, and Ryback lost to R-Truth. R-Truth! I cannot imagine that this is an indicator that Ryback has any favorable light guiding his way to the future. I could just be being cynical, but I think Ryback has lost some favor. Again.

Big E. Langston seems to be getting pushed, though. That is a plus in my book. I think Big E. deserves a nice upper mid-card spot until he can prove to management that he is absolutely ready to be a main event player. I think he has more than enough talent and charisma. Hell, I think he could be the first black WWE Champion. Wait, hold on, there has not been a black WWE Champion, right? Just the World Heavyweight Championship, correct? Damn it…. Okay, after checking it, it would seem that there has not been a black WWE Champion. However, The Rock being half-black could count to some, but that is not what I was going for.

Match of the night for me, surprisingly, was the Ziggler/Axel match. I honestly think both men gelled really well that night and if they happen to meet again, I would not mind in the least.

Non-Television WWE News

I am going to cover just the one big bit that covers non-television WWE news, and I did cover it a little last week.

Jimmy Hart has stated that Hogan will be at WrestleMania 30. Now, take it for what you will, but this makes me believe that we will see the Hulkster at WrestleMania. Hart did say that Hogan will be there even if he has to buy a ticket and sit at ringside, so, you know, we could have a “celebrity sighting” style of appearance from Hogan. One that would probably lead me to laugh at how sad it is that he had to buy a ticket to the 30th anniversary show for a show that he was THE center point of in the beginning. Yes, I can be kind of an asshole.

TNA

Going over iMPACT from last week just seems wrong for me. I purposely do not include SmackDown because I do not want to recap last weeks show when my column posts on the day. I will try to cover some happenings though, but I have to admit I do not catch iMPACT as much as I would like. Thursday nights are my only nights I have to myself and I would rather spend them working on my hobbies. No offense to TNA, I enjoy their product just as much as any other wrestling product, but it just so happens their show is hard to catch for me.

Anyhow, I will say that I heard they are going back to Orlando for tapings. I have not read much in to whether they are going back to a fixed location as they did in Orlando yet, but this right here makes me think they have gone back to where they started. It is rough to see this and think they are taking a step back, but on the other hand it might be better this way. I think TNA needs to come up with an actual business model to take the show on the road. Better advertising, better venues, better production, but have a set budget for it all. Maybe they have learned from the first time and can hit the road again stronger and find some success. A wrestling fan can only hope.

Japan

I will hit on some New Japan today, I got a link in the comments of my last column that helped with that, but still on the hunt for a solid source for shows and what not outside of NJPW. Maybe I am just not looking in the right places or searching wrong. But I vow to eventually get as much stuff from Japan in here as I can weekly. Same goes for Mexico, which I will probably focus on CMLL, but that is for its own section.

New Japan Pro Wrestling

November 9, NJPW had POWER STRUGGLE the results are below (attendance: 6,400):

Yujiro Takahashi, YOSHI-HASHI, Rocky Romero and Alex Koslov defeated Manabu Nakanishi, Captain New Japan, KUSHIDA and BUSHI @ 9:50 when Koslov pinned BUSHI after the Contract Killer.

IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Title: Matt and Nick Jackson defeated TAKA Michinoku and Taichi (c) @ 9:22 when Matt pinned TAKA after the More Bang For Your Buck to become the 37th champions.

Katsuyori Shibata defeated Tomoaki Honma @ 9:43 with a Shouten.

Yuji Nagata and Kazushi Sakuraba defeated Toru Yano and Takashi Iizuka @ 8:08 when Sakuraba used the Sakuraba Lock on Iizuka.

IWGP Tag Team Title and NWA World Tag Team Title – 3WAY Irregular Rules Match: Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Satoshi Kojima (c-IWGP) vs. Lance Archer and Davey Boy Smith Jr. (c-NWA) vs. Rob Conway and Jax Dane

– NWA World Tag Team Title: Rob Conway and Jax Dane defeated Lance Archer and Davey Boy Smith Jr. (c), and Satoshi Kojima and Hiroyoshi Tenzan @ 5:41 when Conway used the Ego Trip on Kojima to become the 74th champions.

– IWGP Tag Team Title: Lance Archer and Davey Boy Smith Jr. defeated Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Satoshi Kojima (c), and Rob Conway and Jax Dane @ 3:00 when Archer used the Killer bomb on Tenzan to become the 63rd champions.

Togi Makabe and Kota Ibushi defeated Prince Devitt and Bad Luck Fale @ 11:15 when Ibushi used a Phoenix splash on Devitt.

Hiroshi Tanahashi defeated Tomohiro Ishii @ 17:38 with the High Fly Flow.

NEVER Openweight Title (& IWGP Heavyweight Title shot): Tetsuya Naito (c) defeated Masato Tanaka @ 15:46 with a Stardust press (2nd defense).

IWGP Intercontinental Title: Shinsuke Nakamura (c) defeated Minoru Suzuki @ 19:04 with the Boma Ye (3rd defense).

IWGP Heavyweight Title: Kazuchika Okada (c) defeated Karl Anderson @ 22:49 with the Rainmaker (6th defense).

TAKA and Taichi only had one successful defense of the IWGP Jr. Tag titles before Matt and Nick Jackson won them. The Young Bucks are also 2-crown champions simultaneously holding the Dragon Gate USA’s Open the United Gate Title.

Poor TenKoji. First, Satoshi Kojima eats a pin (for the second time this year) from Rob Conway as the NWA titles slip through their hands only to have Hiroyoshi Tenzan get pinned by Lance Archer in a matter of minutes to lose the IWGP straps.

Hiroshi Tanahashi’s win over Tomohiro Ishii gives Tanahashi the revenge after the shocking G1 loss to Ishii. Admittedly I have not seen this show yet as the iPPV is only $25, but the first of the month just came and went and I do not have that to spend on the show, but I heard this match was awesome so I cannot wait to see it.

Shinsuke Nakamura will not be joining Suzuki Gun after defeating the group’s leader Minoru Suzuki. Nakamura threw out a challenge to his rival, Tanahashi, who came out and accepted the challenge which will take place at Wrestle Kingdom 8.

Karl Anderson showed that he wanted to win at all costs against Kazuchika Okada, motivated by Andersons defeat at the hands of Okada at the 2012 G1 final. The Bullet Club tried all they could to help Anderson, but in the end Okada came out on top. After the match, Tetsuya Naito came out and exchanged pleasantries with Okada building to their title match at Wrestle Kingdom 8. Interesting note, the fans were booing Naito who is supposed to be the face in the feud.

Current Wrestle Kingdom 8 card has been put out, but only has five of a possible nine to ten matches announced, here it is:

IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Title – 4WAY Match: Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson (c) vs. KUSHIDA & Alex Shelley vs. TAKA Michinoku Kaientai Dojo & Taichi vs. Rocky Romero & Alex Koslov

IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title: Prince Devitt (c) vs. Kota Ibushi

Special Tag Match: Yuji Nagata & Kazushi Sakuraba vs. Daniel Gracie & Rolles Gracie

Double Main Event I – IWGP Intercontinental Title: Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi

Double Main Event II – IWGP Heavyweight Title: Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Tetsuya Naito

Mexico

Okay, so, I may have lied a bit. I still do not feel comfortable with reporting on the lucha libre from Mexico because I am not as familiar with it as the US or Japanese wrestling. The Japanese wrestling is even questionable. I wanted to do a bit about CMLL, but I do not want to miss anything. CMLL alone has SO MUCH to cover it is hard to really get it all down with the time I have to write this. I apologize to lucha fans, I really want to bring you the news and happenings but it is becoming almost burdensome. I want to give it the coverage I would to WWE, TNA, or anything in Japan so I have to figure something out. Manage what little free time I have between column deadlines to get as much information as I can. I can post results without any backing for CMLL today, but I feel like an ass for it being just results and nothing else.

CMLL

CMLL ran two shows Tuesday, one at Arena Mexico and the other at Arena Coliseo Guadalajara, here are the results for Arena Mexico:

Akuma and Guerrero Negro Jr. defeated Metatrón & Sensei, Rudos took 2/3.

Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior and Pierrothito defeated Bam Bam, Fantasy and Último Dragoncito, Rudos took 1/3.

Estrellita, Goya Kong and Marcela defeated Amapola, La Seductora and Princesa Blanca, Tecnicas took 2/3.

Rey Cometa deafeated Raziel @ 7:00 with the 450 splash.

Ángel de Oro, Super Porky and Thunder defeated Dragón Rojo Jr., Pólvora and Rey Escorpión. Straight falls. Escorpion used an illegal choke on Porky in the first for a DQ, lost in the second.

Kráneo, Olímpico and Volador Jr. defeated Máscara Dorada, Mistico and Valiente, Invasors took 1/3. Volador pinned Mascara Dorada, then challenged for his title.

Results for Arena Coliseo Guadalajara:

Sky Kid and Smaker defeated Exterminador and Maléfico, Tecnicos took 1/3.

Astral, Eléctrico and Shockercito defeated Mercurio, Pequeño Halcón and Pequeño Olímpico, Tecnicos took 1/3. Pequeno Halcon was a replacement for Pequeno Nitro.

Boby Zavala, Sangre Azteca and Virus defeated Fuego, Pegasso and Sagrado, Rudos took 1/3.

Euforia, Niebla Roja and Último Guerrero defeated Atlantis, La Sombra and Titán, Rudos took 1/3. Último Guerrero snuck a foul on Sombra, setting up a singles match next week.

CMLL Heavyweight: Terrible (c) defeated Rush. Rush submitted Terrible, Terrible pinned Rush, and Terrible won clean in the third. Eighth defense.

END

Wow, I really just am not happy with myself with this column yet. Week three and I still am putting out crap for news. This is my first time doing a news column and I kind of just jumped in head first, but I can only use that excuse for so long. Again, I ask just to stick with me here as I try to get this to where I want it and even where you may want it meaning I am open to any suggestions you may want to see in the column. I have been thinking about cutting WWE and TNA as much as possible and add in a little for the US independents, but right now I am only taking one thing at a time and I should focus on the four things I have going in the column right now. Have a good weekend and I will see you guys next week.
