Posted by Steve Gustafson on 12.10.2013
411's Steve Gustafson sits down with Playboy's Miss November, Gemma Lee Farrell! She talks about being the newest Playmate, her photo shoot, and what's next in her career! All this and more inside!
New Zealand is a land of natural beauty and wonders! Even more amazing is it has now given us Gemma Lee Farrell! Gemma has been named Playboy's Playmate of the Month for the magazine's November 2013 issue (on newsstands and i.playboy.com now, with additional photos available at www.playboy.com/gemmaleefarrell). Born in the small town of Pirongia, Gemma is Playboy's first New Zealand-born Playmate. The lovely brunette is a spokesmodel for Dreamgirl lingerie and Monster Energy, and has become one of the most recognizable beauties in action sports thanks to her presence at the energy drink's supercross, motocross and skateboard events.
Miss November has also modeled for magazines including FHM, Maxim, Ralph and Zoo, and was featured on the popular New Zealand reality show Girl Racers.
Gemma was kind enough to take a few moments to answer some questions for us.
Steve Gustafson: Gemma, thanks again for answering some questions! To start off, what got you into modelling? What was your first shoot?
Gemma Lee Farrell: I fell into modeling when I was about 18. I had never thought of being a model, I was a little ugly duckling at school, but I was asked to shoot for Ralph magazine (an Australian publication). I guess I grew into my looks. Never in my life did I ever think I would be gracing the pages of Playboy. It's a true honor, and I feel very blessed.
Steve Gustafson: You have to love those "ugly duckling" stories! How did you get involved with Playboy?
Gemma Lee Farrell: I won a Playboy Golf modeling competition in Australia about 5 years ago and they flew me to America to attend an event. Recently, Josh Ryan (a Playboy photographer) found me on Instagram and contacted me and the rest is history! America has won my heart. I love calling LA home and being a part of the amazing Playboy family.
Steve Gustafson: Wow! Just like that. What was your reaction when they told you that you'd be Miss November? Who was the first person you called?
Gemma Lee Farrell I was standing on my balcony having a coffee with my best friend and I had just a towel on. Stephanie from Playboy called me to congratulate me, my towel dropped to ground, and I think all my neighbors heard me screaming! I called my parents first. They were very proud of me and supportive.
Steve Gustafson: That's an awesome story about finding out! Love it! How was your photo shoot for the pictorial? Were you nervous?
Gemma Lee Farrell: The photo shoot, the crew and Playboy were unbelievable and so comforting. A photographer named Sasha Eisenman shot my pictorial. He's a super cool dude and we got along super well. After a while, I wasn't nervous and I got used to it. It was very liberating being nude in front of such a large crew, and I couldn't of asked for a better Centerfold.
Steve Gustafson: I think everyone shares that feeling about your Centerfold. How has your life changed, if at all, since becoming Miss November? Not only that, being Playboy's first New Zealand-born Playmate!
Gemma Lee Farrell: Having the title "Playmate" is going to change my life forever. I'm very proud to be from NZ and to be the first at anything is always the best feeling. I'm working on some exciting stuff in NZ and Australia now. I'll be back over the January holidays
Steve Gustafson: Awesome! So, what's next for you? Any projects we should be on the look out for?
Gemma Lee Farrell: I'm working on a fashion line at the moment and can't wait to get it fully going. I'm going to be involved in a new reality show which I'm super excited about. I'm shooting some magazine stuff back in NZ and Auz while I'm home. There will be lots more coming so keep an eye out and follow me on my social media!
Steve Gustafson: We're a pop culture website that covers TV and Movies. What was the last movie you saw in the theater?
Gemma Lee Farrell: I saw Hangover 3. I haven't been to the movies in a while! Nothing beats the first Hangover though. Holy crap! That Movie had me in STITCHES!
Steve Gustafson: That movie still cracks me up! Are there any TV shows that you MUST watch?
Gemma Lee Farrell: I'm a major fan of TV series. I love Breaking Bad, Weeds, Orange is the New Black, and Army Wives.
Steve Gustafson: Very cool. Now, you're involved with a number of action sports. What got you interested in that? What's your favorite sport to be participate in?
Gemma Lee Farrell: I got hired as a spokesmodel for Monster Energy! I'v been with them 3 years and flown all over America and recently to Spain for Moto Gp. Supercross starts back up in January, so keep an eye out for me on your TV screens!
Steve Gustafson: Wow! With everything you have going on, how can fans stay in touch and follow your adventures?
