Sports Entertainment 720 News Report 12.19.13

December 19, 2013 | Posted by Jarrod Atkinson

Hello everyone, welcome back to Sports Entertainment 720, I’m your host Jarrod Atkinson. Before we get started with the news for the week, I want to address the main event from Sunday’s TLC pay per view. When Cena unhooked the bottom rope and climbed to the top of the ladder, you knew he was going to win the belt. When Orton tossed him of the ladder and he did his best Harley Race into that table, you knew he was going to overcome the odds. As long as Orton took to get the belts I was waiting for something to happen. When Vince’s music hit, you thought the match was going to get restarted. It was Wrestlemania 25 all over again. I kept checking the clock to see what they were going to do with the time they had left. Nope. Welcome to another Age of Orton. Let’s do this!

While I was expecting a Cena win last Sunday, I welcome the return of the blatant Ric Flair like lengths that Orton will go to in effort to keep his title. His match with Daniel Bryan was a great one, and the low blow ending was the right call. It gives Orton mega heat, keeps Bryan in the title picture, and made me laugh out loud. Orton is pretty much playing the same role he did in his 2007-2008 championship reign, where we got this gem.

And now the fake news…

AJ Styles is booking more indie dates, the most recently announced being February 15th for House of Glory in Ridgewood, New York. Styles has dates announced in February and March, but of course there’s that pesky rumor that his statement about leaving TNA for good is all just a work. I for one hope that he is legitimately done with TNA if they aren’t going to pay him what he deserves. Styles is the guy they run back to when the fans shit all over their storylines and damn it, he deserves to be compensated for it. I’m sure there will be more news on this as the days progress.

Adam Pearce is not retiring. When I checked the news earlier, there were reports that Scrap Daddy was calling it quits on January 14th. But I guess someone forgot to double check that fact with Pearce. The company in question said it was a misprint and apologized, and I’m glad they caught it before I reported it on here and looked like an asshole.

Okay brother, we all know that Hulk Hogan is suing Gawker over the release of a sex tape with Heather Clem, and the latest details are that Gawker wants access to Bubba the Love Sponge’s home to investigate his security system that was used to record the footage. They want to see if there’s a chance that he could’ve been living in Bubba’s house for so long and not know about the security cameras. I suddenly find myself wanting to talk about Hogan’s in ring work rather than…this.

Christopher Daniels made an appearance on IGN to talk comics, specifically Marvel vs DC. If you’ve ever been a fan of comics this video is worth watching, as Daniels talks about how wrestling is the closest you can get to a real life comic. Daniels also names his favorite books, and like myself, he his a huge fan of Brian Michael Bendis. Seriously, Scarlet is the best book you probably aren’t reading, but should be.

Looking to tonight’s episode of Impact, we find out the contents of the Feast or Fired cases, Kurt Angle continues his feud with Bobby Roode in a 2 out of 3 falls match, and Gail Kim and Lei’D Tapa team up to battle the team of ODB and Madison Rayne. I hope this is the end of Roode and Angle because I think Roode should move on to bigger and better things. The only thing that I would root for other than Roode in the world title picture is a Beer Money reunion. I know that Storm hates Roode, but come on, stranger things have happened in wrestling.

Last but not least, the main event is the finals of the TNA World Heavyweight Championship tournament we have Jeff Hardy vs Magnus in a Dixieland match. In case you’re wondering what the hell a Dixieland match is, allow this video to educate you.

Each week I filter through all the self promotion, Q and A’s, retweets, and TV references to bring you the best of Twitter in the Sports Entertainment world.

I think that I figured out the proper ratio of funny to barely clothed women, perhaps all that 411 writer training is paying off. As always, follow 411mania on Twitter and follow me if you want to hear about wrestling, MMA, vegan stuff, and the crap the goes on in Oklahoma. Click the links below.

The wrestling year looks to be winding down, with WWE taping next weeks Raw on Tuesday, and TNA taping everything for the next 6 months last month. (I’m only half kidding.) Thanks to everyone for reading and commenting, and I’ll see you next week when I will probably use the terms Bad Santa, Good Santa, and Foley Claus several times. Before I go, I saw this on the magazine rack today and thought I would share. How much do you miss Stacy Keibler?
