Sports Entertainment 720 News Report 01.09.14

January 9, 2014 | Posted by Jarrod Atkinson

It’s Thursday, so that means that it’s time to take a look at the news and events in the world of sports entertainment. Welcome to Sports Entertainment 720. I’m your favorite independent blogger Jarrod Atkinson, and I’ll admit to you right now that I missed Impact last week because I was watching the Oklahoma Sooners defeat the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Sugar Bowl. Life is good when the SEC loses. I also went over to the MMA section of 411mania on a day off and defeated Paul Lapointe in my first MMA Fact or Fiction battle. You can see my Chris Weidman vs Mark Munoz inspired win here Now let’s do this shit!

Raw held it’s own against the national championship game on Monday. Using the old school theme to distract people like myself from the game. Once again Roman Reigns was given the subtle push, but in my eyes Dean Ambrose was the winner on Monday. His confrontation with Rowdy Roddy Piper was better than the rest of the Shield, and he was part of the final segment with Jake The Snake Roberts. Add to that his matches with William Regal and his one on one match with The Undertaker and it’s clear Dean Ambrose is the member of the Shield that will be the big star, despite what you see on TV right now.

WWE’s “Big announcement” was obviously them finally announcing the WWE Network, but WWE accidentally spoiled the news with an email touting the big news. Even Michael Cole is shaking his head at that one. And rumors are spreading that Hulk Hogan is in the area of the big announcement, so maybe he’s coming back home, brother.

Dolph Ziggler has once again suffered a concussion in a match on Main Event with Ryback and will be out of action until he’s cleared. This is bad news for the #Heel, as he’s suffered from a concussion that kept him from defending the world heavyweight championship for awhile and was then written into the storyline when he lost said title. There’s also rumors of heat on Ryback for causing the injury and adding to his unsafe reputation. Hopefully Ziggler is able to recover and this isn’t a serious injury in the same vein of Chris Nowinski and might cause him to have to retire.

Kaitlyn has left WWE as of January 8th. Kaitlyn spent 3 1/2 years with WWE, winning the Diva’s Championship once and winning NXT Season 3. I don’t see this as a real loss for the WWE because I honestly can’t remember a damn thing she did besides drop the title to AJ. So best of luck to you in your future endeavors Kaitlyn, may you be as happy not under contract as Trish and Lita are.

Tonight on Impact it’s going down! Live from last year AJ Styles finally defends his TNA Championship against Magnus for the right to be called the undisputed TNA World Heavyweight Champion. WHAT WILL HAPPEN??? (We all know what’s going to happen.) Also tonight on Impact, Kurt Angle will have a “Steel Cage Open Challenge.” to prepare for his upcoming steel cage match with Bobby Roode, James Storm will have a special challenge for Gunner, and TNA Tag Team Champions The BroMans will take on the team of Joseph Park and Eric Young. Impact! The show I forgot to watch last week! Okay, if you haven’t read the spoilers for this weeks Impact and haven’t read about the status of AJ Styles, avoid reading anything until you see Vince in the Twitter Roundup.

ROH had a successful turnout at their TV tapings in Nashville. The paid attendance was decent and they have plans to return to the area for the Best In The World iPPV in June. The tapings featured the return of AJ Styles to the company, unfortunately his match with Roderick Strong ended with a botched Styles Clash that I’m sure you’ve seen. Let’s hope Roddy is okay. These tapings also see the return of Chris Hero to the ROH roster, so Ring of Honor starts out 2014 with some momentum. Kevin Steen vs Chris Hero? I’m there.

Each week I filter through all the self promotion, Q and A’s, retweets, and TV references to bring you the best of Twitter in the Sports Entertainment world.

The popularity of Daniel Bryan’s Yes chant continues to grow in the mainstream world. Diego Sanchez should start making appearances to throw in a Yes cartwheel or two. As always, follow 411mania on Twitter and follow me if you want to hear about wrestling, MMA, vegan stuff, and the crap that goes on in Oklahoma. Click the links below.

That’s it for this week. Make sure and check out 411wrestling’s year end awards and see if you agree with the collective mind of the 411mania writers. Probably not, because the whole Chikara thing didn’t bother me as much as it did everyone else. I’ll close this edition of SE720 with a Weekend Escapade from Kevin Steen. The best part about this video is the end. That damn guy always seems to show up. Check it out, enjoy, and Ring The Damn Bell. Boomer Sooner!
