Sports Entertainment 720 News Report 1.23.14

January 23, 2014 | Posted by Jarrod Atkinson

Welcome to the greatest edition of Sports Entertainment 720 in the history of SE720! The Road to Wrestlemania begins this Sunday with the Royal Rumble, which John Cena probably won’t win! Hulk Hogan might’ve secured his place for Wrestlemania! AJ Styles calls bullshit on his rumored talks with WWE! Dolph Ziggler has heat! My god, the drama! I’m Jarrod Atkinson, your favorite independent blogger and UNDEFEATED MMA Fact or Fiction participant! Wrestling damn it! Wrestling! Let’s! Do! This! Shit!

AJ Styles talked with Live Audio Wrestling about among other things, his recent exit from TNA, his lone wolf storyline, and his recent match with Roderick Strong. He kind of throws the blame on Roddy for the botched Styles Clash, but the part I want to discuss is the rumors that he was in talks with WWE. And I quote: ” I know that’s some wishful thinking, but no, there was nothing. Not a phone call. Nothing. I wish I knew who these guys were that were presenting these rumors and whatnot, just so I could say, “Exactly tell me when they did call me, I’d like to know.” It’s just so bizarre, all the stuff that you hear. So AJ is saying he didn’t get lowballed by Vince. I can see that. I can also see WWE not wanting to acknowledge anyone that TNA has created or made bigger. Remember, R-Truth had a stint in WWE before he went to TNA, and anyone that has spent time in Dixieland has spent plenty of time in developmental. I’m definitely interested to see where AJ is going to be in 6 months, as we have a few people that think he’ll be back in TNA soon.

It’s been rumored that Dolph Ziggler’s push stopped because he talked a little shit about Randy Orton back in September. Does this seem like it would get Ziggler in trouble? “I’ve made it clear; I’m not patient at all – several times. I’ve been very vocal about my position on the card and in the company. I’m not trying to say ‘Hey, everybody sucks and I’m great!’ But I love doing this, and at some point you go ‘OK, It’s not my time right now and I got to figure something out’ And when it’s time, that’s when I must go out there and make as huge of an impact as I can and let everyone know ‘I dare you to follow that, I dare you try something better.’ And when they don’t (counter or match what I’m doing in the ring) I’m very outspoken about it and it can get me into very hot water (with the company). Then you never know where we’re going. Everybody can be just so outspoken about taller guys, and guys like Randy Orton being the face of the WWE, the WWE Championship. I dare you to put me in a back alley with Randy Orton or someone like that. I guarantee I’m not afraid of someone taller.” How dare he talk that way about the face of the company? Randy Orton is the face of the WWE, has two Wellness strikes against him, and is notorious for having a bad attitude. Shame on you Dolph. Shame on you.

I’m required by 411 law to discuss the Wrestlemaina status of Hulk Hogan in every article I write. If you believe the latest word, Hogan has agreed to appear and plans have been set for him to appear. What those plans are nobody knows. Look for this to change 13 times before Elimination Chamber. Also in WWE news, Ric Flair appears to be on a case by case basis with WWE and on his best behavior in order to secure a contract with WWE once again. Oh speculation…

The highlight of Raw this week, besides that sweet Superman Punch, was the return of Batista, who bumped up ratings 11% and mentions in an interview with Dot Com that he required back surgery after his exit in 2010. Batista (1-0-0 MMA) returns to action this Sunday in the Royal Rumble match, which he better not win.

Tonight on Impact we continue with Genesis, and here are last weeks results:
Samoa Joe, O.D.B, James Storm, Gunner, Joseph Park and Eric Young defeated Christopher Daniels, Kazarian, Lei’d Tapa, Zema Ion and The Bro-Mans
-No DQ match: Bully Ray defeated Ken Anderson
Madison Rayne defeated Gail Kim to win the TNA Knockouts Championship
EC3 defeated Sting

This week Austin Aries and Chris Sabin battle for the X Division title with Velvet Sky IN A CAGE, Gunner and James Storm face off in a briefcase match, Kurt Angle battles Bobby Roode in a steel cage match, more from The Wolves, and Sting vs Magnus with Sting’s contract extension on the line. Time for Sting to disappear for a month and see what Vince throws at him. Impact! Live tonight on Spike!

Each week I filter through all the self promotion, Q and A’s, retweets, and TV references to bring you the best of Twitter in the Sports Entertainment world.

Thank you Angelina Love for making this week easy. That’s all for this week, I’ll be back next week for more speculation and rumors and we can all discuss whether Kofi Kingston topped 2 years ago with that thing he’ll do in the Rumble. We end this week with my favorite video during the Rumble season, the By The Numbers video. See you next week, and hopefully Batista doesn’t win the Rumble. Ring the damn bell!
