Sports Entertainment 720 News Report 02.27.14

February 27, 2014 | Posted by Jarrod Atkinson

It’s Thursday, and I know what that means. You’ve been watching the WWE Network for so long that you don’t even know what day it is or who you are. This is Sports Entertainment 720, and I’m Jarrod Atkinson. I happen to be everyone’s favorite independent blogger, or as I was referred to last week “writer” (yes, quotes included.) and formerly undefeated MMA Fact or Fiction participant. Once again, I need your help. I’m in 411’s MMA Fact or Fiction tournament, and I started off the tournament this week against Evan Zivin. Check out our battle by clicking here. I want this win, because a win gets me one step closer to a rematch with my new mortal enemy Alex Watt. Even if I lose to Zivin, I want to go down swinging. Check it out, and if I deserve your vote, send it my way. Now let’s talk wrestling.

Is there anything else to lead with besides the WWE Network? Hulk Hogan made his return to the WWE for the first time in over 5 years and what does he do? He dances for his dollars by pimping out the Network and mentioning his hosting duties for Wrestlemania 30. But mostly, there’s a new network in town, brother. Social media has been on fire with praise for the wide selection of PPV’s available to watch. Full on nostalgia effect. Not one person has said “Damn! That post show was awesome!” Seriously, 3 hours on Monday is enough for me. I don’t need a hype show for Raw and then post show analysis every week. But don’t forget the NXT ArRIVAL live tonight on the WWE Network. Actual wrestling. Remember that?

Looks as though if you created an account in the last day or so you may be having login issues. WWE sent out the following statement regarding the issue: “We are working aggressively to fix log-in issues on the WWE Network application that are effecting viewers with accounts created in the last 24 hours. We will provide an update shortly.” Just breathe and know that everything will be okay and sooner than later you can watch December to Dismember again.

Add Rey Mysterio to the list of people who may not renew their contracts when the time comes. Word is that Rey’s position near the top in the company isn’t secure and that he may decided to leave WWE. Of course anytime that Rey is rumored to be leaving, the assumed destination of choice for him is listed as AAA in Mexico. Since his friend Konnan has power in AAA, it would make the most sense for him to go there if he indeed wants to continue wrestling. So as of now, we have Alberto Del Rio, Christian, and now Rey joining the list of people to watch in the next few months. Speaking of….

CM Punk’s appearance at Wizard World in Louisville has been cancelled, with Punk being replaced by Randy Orton. A CM Punk trading card offered in the UK version of the Best of Raw and Smackdown has been replaced with one from Daniel Bryan. Mr “On Hiatus” appears to be on the way out the door, as WWE is doing the usual scrub them from your memory routine. Punk was at UFC 170 this weekend, seen many times on screen sitting next to Dana White, and making an appearance with Rener Gracie in this picture.

This week on Impact, Kurt Angle is finally inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame. He won a gold medal with a broken freakin’ neck. He headlined Wrestlemania….shit, um…..he showed up in TNA and snapped Samoa Joe’s unbeaten streak, he had a stranglehold on the TNA World title for most of 2007 and 2008, he needs some time off, and now he takes his rightful place in the TNA Hall of Fame, not live this week. Also this week, MVP battles Bobby Roode in a Lockdown captain vs captain match, Velvet Sky and Knockouts Champion Madison Rayne take on Lei’D Tapa and The Alpha Female, and more on the James Storm/Gunner situation, and the NEW TNA Tag Team Champions, The Wolves. Because this happened on Saturday:

Each week I filter through all the self promotion, Q and A’s, retweets, and TV references to bring you the best of Twitter in the Sports Entertainment world.

So Double J is continuing to be cryptic, James Storm is in full on Twitter heel mode, and Velvet is being Velvet. Like I said, sometimes it’s too easy to do the roundup. And in case you haven’t been on Twitter lately, Kurt Angle is going into the TNA Hall of Fame tonight. It might get mentioned a time or two.

As always, follow 411mania on Twitter and follow me if you want to hear about wrestling, MMA, vegan stuff, and the crap that goes on in Oklahoma. Click the links below.

That’s it for this week. Column over. You may now return to your WWE Network binge. I have to go write a few blurbs for Csonka so he will stop emailing me twice a day. Remember to hydrate, come up for food occasionally, and check in with friends and loved ones every now and then so they know that everything is okay. Just text WWENTWRK a few times a day and they should catch one. See you next week. Ring the damn bell.
