Sports Entertainment 720 News Report 3.06.14

March 6, 2014 | Posted by Jarrod Atkinson

You know who I am, you know why I’m here. Let’s talk wrestling.

Absent from Raw last night…
Of course the WWE knew that the Chicago crowd would be hot and chanting for CM Punk, who depending on what website you follow, was either rumored to be returning last night or was nowhere in the building. WWE decided to confront the issue by directly, but indirectly acknowledging that Punk was not there and trying their best to book a strong show to counteract the constant CM Punk chants. The only time the crowd wasn’t chanting for the hometown hero was during the absolutely amazing six man tag between The Shield and The Wyatt Family. More on them later. So as far as we know, Punk is sitting at home and has no intentions of coming back to WWE. Also not on TV last night was WWE Diva’s Champion and girlfriend of the legendary ladies man known as CM Punk, AJ Lee. AJ wasn’t on TV the week after Punk was sent home, and her connection to Punk was the rumored reason she was kept off the air this last Monday. I guess Vince thought AJ being on Raw was going to draw Punk chants the way Maria does in ROH. Nevertheless, no AJ this week.

It also seems as though every week that Rey Mysterio isn’t on TV the rumors start back up that he isn’t going to resign his contract and he’ll be off to AAA to be a part of their new show that of course is ran by his good friend Konnan. I say let him go. Rey hasn’t done anything worth while in years other than come out, get hurt, come back overweight, hurt something else, and sit at home some more. At least when Christian gets hurt, he comes back and proves his worth. Let Rey hit the Mexico circuit and save a boatload of cash. Give Sin Cara 2 the chance to win over the Latin audience.

The Rest of the News…
Hulk Hogan will be making a Wrestlemania announcement next week and he is hitting the trail hyping it up. Hulk is so happy to be back home that he’ll flex and hype the WWE Network to anyone that will listen. But the real question, other than whose side is he on, is what will the announcement be? Could it be Sting coming to WWE? Is Randy Savage going into the Hall of Fame? Is Brooke Hogan going to sing America The Beautiful this year? I feel like the Hulkster is going to let us down with this announcement. But I’m just a jaded “writer”, what do I know?

I don’t know whether to shake my head or stand up and cheer for this next bit. Buff Bagwell is now working as a gigolo. This comes from TMZ, the wrestling news authority. Bagwell appeared on the Showtime program Gigolos to discuss the topic. So Buff went from taking bumps and wrestling while his mom was on a pole to getting from 800-3000 dollars to spend time with some lonely ladies. Depending on his booking prices, this might be an improvement. I wonder if he charges extra to hit the ladies with a Blockbuster?

The highlight of Monday Night Raw this week was definitely The Shield vs The Wyatt Family. The story of the match is the teasing of The Shield breaking up. Are we looking at a variation of the breakup of Legacy? The rumored match for the Shield members is either Ambrose challenging Big E to unify the US and IC titles while Rollins and Reigns battle Harper and Rowan, or have a triple threat match between them. If there was a triple threat match and we were looking at the Legacy match as a template, I feel like Roman Reigns would be playing the part of Ted Dibiase. He has all the potential and looks good in a group, but does he have what it takes to strike out on his own as a singles star? Rollins and Ambrose have proved themselves on the indie circuit, but Reigns is a product of the WWE Developmental System. Only time will tell, but I don’t have the faith in Reigns that Vince and Trips do.

In news that totally ruins about 25% of the Twitter Roundup, TNA’s Brooke Adams’ Twitter and Facebook pages appear to be deleted. This of course is leading to speculation that she is no longer with the company, and the rest of us are just pissed at the lack of scantily clad pictures, which sometimes included product placement, but none of us really cared. Velvet Sky and Angelina Love, don’t follow Brooke. The world needs your Twitter pages.

Lockdown is looking to be a strong card. (I can’t believe I just typed that.) Team Roode will battle Team MVP for control of TNA, and the final member of Team MVP will be announced tonight. Every match at Lockdown is once again a steel cage match, and The Great Fucking Muta will be competing. This week on Impact there will be a six man elimination match featuring MVP and The Wolves vs Austin Aries and The BroMans, with the winning team getting the advantage in the Lethal Lockdown match at Lockdown. Also tonight, Samuel Shaw battles Eric Young, and we get six woman tag match featuring Madison Rayne, Velvet Sky and ODB vs. Gail Kim, Lei’D Tapa and The Alpha Female. Here’s everything I just said, but in video form:

That’s it for this week. In honor of Brock and Undertaker having the match nobody wants to see at Wrestlemania this year, I leave you with a moment that I wish the WWE would reference. Let’s go back in time 3 years after Brock lost the UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 121. Ring the bell.
