News to Start Your Weekend 01.13.06
Posted by Nick Marsico on 01.13.2006
This column is garbage. Not trash, garbage. Vince McMahon is a senile bastard and he can't run a wrestling show, and his current idea of sports entertainment is warped. Oh, and I spoil the result of the Battle Royal on SmackDown!, too.
Man, I totally forgot about this thing... I've been working one day, off the next all week (on Sat, off Sun, on Mon, off Tues, on Wed, off Thurs), so I haven't been in tune with what day it actually has been all week. I thought Wednesday was Tuesday and was surprised as hell when I found out the week was already half over. Anyway, I had no idea that it was already time for another News to Start Your Weekend, but since I remembered, there's no reason for any of you to fear, because it's here for your undeserving eyes to read and my often unwilling fingers are typing it.
LET US GET ON WITH THE NEWS, SHALL WE?
Batista is a proud man
Batista was apparently very broken up backstage at the Smackdown taping about having to drop the World Title and take time off. He actually told management that he will work through his latest injury, but WWE overruled and made the decision to take the belt off of him and get him healed up. He isn't expected back until after WrestleMania.
He knows that SD! is really hurting as far as star power goes right now and has been for a few months, but you already worked through a bad injury, Big Dave. One like this that actually requires surgery isn't one that can be worked through, and while it definitely sucks for him and has and will put WWE in a tough spot, taking this road, doing the surgery, and most importantly, not rushing back, is going to be best for everybody in the long run.
Dawn Marie wants to get paid
- Former WWE Diva Dawn Marie has filed a complaint against WWE with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, claiming wrongful termination from her release last year while she was pregnant and mental duress stemming from that release. Marie gave birth to her son on 12/20 and has already lost 30 pounds. She is hoping to make a comeback. TNA's Dixie Carter has already offered Dawn Marie a job when she is ready.
Well Dawn should get paid all of the money from the last 6 or 7 months she was owed on her contract. I hate it when rich men and rich corporations try to save a little bit of money that they realistically wouldn't even know if they were missing by screwing someone who actually needs it. How much could she be owed? $50,000 at very most?
Two new wrestlers signed
Tommy Suede, who wrestled for WXW and is a graduate of The Wild Samoan Training Center has been signed to a WWE deal.
Chris Rombola has also been signed to a deal. Rombola is the first person to be signed from the recent "open tryouts." He will be sent to Deep South for training.
Don't know who they are, don't care who they are, and don't expect to ever see them in WWE. Meeeeeeeeh.
Deep South regulars moved to Ohio Valley
Mikey Batts, Nick Mitchell and Mike "The Miz" have all been transferred to OVW full time now.
I guess that can only be a good sign as far as the future of their careers are concerned.
Live sex show on RAW news
Sources within the WWE offices are claiming that due to the Lita-Edge sex segment on RAW, they have gotten the most complaints to their complain department in the history of the company. Vince doesn't really take these complaints seriously unless they lead sponsors pulling out or problems with USA Network.
Some wrestlers have spoken out saying it was senseless and embarrassing to the business. Just about everyone backstage seems to be upset over it.
The feeling right now within the company is that it was a desperation move, and that it's just Vince trying to shock people.
SERIOUSLY, OTHER THAN KURT ANGLE WINNING THE WORLD TITLE, THERE WAS NO NEWS THIS WEEK. UH, NEWS OVER
RAW Sucked
It did. What a horrible way to follow a surprisingly decent PPV with a shocking finish. Hell of a job starting Edge's first title reign out strong, too. The show on Monday was complete and total garbage, and other than Cena acknowledging the boos, nothing worthwhile took place, and I'm almost ashamed to say I watched the show.
Did anybody hear how loud everybody was calling moves in the Angle/Michaels vs. Carlito/Masters match? The top two loudest were when Carlito tagged in Masters and told him "Go for an elbow, he'll move", and low and behold, Masters dropped an elbow, and Michaels moved out of the way. HBK also called for Masters to go for the full nelson really loud as well, as he called out "MASTERLOCK!" while he was on his back, and a moment later Masters was attempting to put in his move. I've seen a decent amount of praise for this match, but all I saw was two consummate performers actually struggling to put on a coherent match with a pair of guys who are not ready to be where they are right now. I'm a big Carlito fan (and probably the biggest Masters detractor), but for Carlito to be anywhere higher than an IC title contender and for Masters to be anywhere higher than setting up the ring in Deep South is just laughable. Carlito, to his credit, did look good in the Elimination Chamber match, though.
I've got NOTHING today
Seriously, I apologize for my lack of content today. Other than Angle winning the World Title on SmackDown! (which would have been a huge mark out moment, too, motherfuckers), there's not much going on this week. I enjoyed New Year's Revolution and it was a much stronger show than the card allowed me to believe it would be, but after how terrible RAW was, I don't even want to bother talking about it. I'm looking forward to iMPACT! tomorrow night and can't wait for Final Resolution, but there's never much TNA news, and no WWE news or anything relating to them excites me other than some stuff on SmackDown, but since that happens the night that this comes out and I'm 6 days removed from it when it's time to write this every week, I've lost a lot of interest in what happened there as well, at least enough that I don't have any reason to write about it.
Fucking Vince trying to spark up controversy and relive things similar to what worked for him 8 years ago. Get past it, you senile motherfucker. Move on and evolve a little bit, for Christ's sake. I don't mind "sports entertainment", but for the past couple of years, "sports entertainment" put on in a promotion run by Vincent Kennedy McMahon is fucking awful.
