The 10th Day News Report for 1.25.06
Posted by Leonard Hayhurst on 01.25.2006

MAILBAG

"-Milano Collection AT suffered a concussion while training for Ring of Honor last weekend."

That is ROH's claim, but rumor has it that Milano is annoyed with Gabe and doesn't want to work in ROH anymore. On the day he was supposed to appear in ROH but couldn't because of a "concussion", Milano wrestled in ETW. Gabe claims Milano will be back, but others say Milano is "sick of Gabe's shit already", whatever that means.
-Peter

I thought that sounded too kayfabe to me. Thanks for the inside scoop.

NEWS AND NOTES

-On Tuesday it was announced that CBS and Warner Brothers would be throwing in together to combine the WB and UPN networks into a new station called CW. The new network would retain a lot of programming currently on the two separate networks now. The press release specifically mentioned that Smackdown would play a part in the schedule as it is one of UPN's highest rated shows, especially among the sought after young male demographic. So if you combine all their shows that are any good you should be able to do two, maybe three nights of programming. Paul London was said to be disappointed when told that CW did not mean the cruiserweights were getting their own network. Now the rub is that with WB and UPN merging WWE has no leverage in negotiations, because there is no other network that would really pick the show up. This means that what ever they put on the table WWE will probably have to take. The contract for the show is up this coming September. Maybe they can go to the Outdoor Life network like hockey. -In your online Heat report, Domino and Deuce with manager Cherry defeated Chris Hamrick and Brad Allen. The winners are fifties styled greasers. Yeah, that's a gimmick we were missing. Maybe that's what Vince meant by turning back the clock. If Vince ever needed the Honky Tonk Man back, the time is now. Trevor Murdoch pinned Romeo of the Heartthrobs after they gyrated with plants at ringside, and I don't mean ferns. Matt Striker had a classroom segment. Chavo Guerrero, Jr. took out Jason Jones, better than Nathan Jones I would guess. Val Venis and Viscera pinned Gene Snitsky and Tyson Tomko as two third of the RAW tag division was in the ring at the same time.

-Here's one you probably didn't know. Deuce from the above item is the son of Jimmy Snuka. The WWE legend was backstage at RAW on Monday in order to support his son. Credit: PWInsider.com

-After RAW went off the air Monday John Cena got on the mic to put Ric Flair over. Flair then thanked the crowd and hugged several of his relatives that were in the audience. I love Flair, but don't they do Flair tribute night every time they go to Charlotte anymore. It's the inverse of ‘Booker T jobs because we're in Texas.'
Credit: PWInsider.com

-The members of the Spirit Squad who appeared on RAW Monday were Mike Mondo, Nick Nemeth, Nick Mitchell, Ken Doane and Johnny Jeter. WWE is reportedly very high on Doane. Nemeth was last seen on television as Chavo's caddy while in the Kerwin White gimmick. Credit: PWInsider.com

-One man who wasn't handed the megaphone was Dean Visk. Visk has been let go from his OVW contract. It's said that he had a good look and promo skills, but had not progressed enough in the ring. So, make him a manager. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Former Diva Search contestant Elizabeth Rouffaer has also been let out of her OVW contract. It's reported that she simply decided that wrestling was not for her. Credit: prowrestling.com

-Rob Van Dam will be on the cover of February's RAW magazine. He will then roll it up and smoke it. Credit: PWInsider.com

-In an interview with Access Hollywood, WWE Diva Stacy Keibler admitted to having received an offer to pose for Playboy for several hundred thousand dollars. She turned it down and said she would pose for even $2 million. This means that they should call back and offer $2.5 million. Keibler says that posing nude is simply not something she wants to do. WHY THE HELL NOT! Credit: watching television.

-The Smackdown rating for last week was a solid 2.9. Warner Brothers is thrilled. Credit: Nielsen reports

-WWE.com posted a list of Royal Rumble participants for this coming Sunday. The list they have is different from what was previously released. There is no word at this time as to what led to the changes. I'm sensing Kevin Von Erich as a surprised entrant. The men entered at this time stand as Triple H, Rob Van Dam, Ric Flair, Shelton Benjamin, Coach, Big Show, Kane, Trevor Murdoch, Chavo Guerrero Jr., Carlito, Chris Masters and Viscera from RAW. From Smackdown it will be Chris Benoit, Rey Mystero, Johnny Nitro, Joey Mercury, Bobby Lashley, Randy Orton, Matt Hardy, Orlando Jordan, Sylvan, Simon Dean, Animal and Booker T. This means there are two RAW spots left and three Smackdown. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Despite rumors, Chris Jericho is not in talks with Mtv to join their new wrestling organization. Let them throw a few video clips Fozzy's way and see what he says. Credit: PWInsider.com

-The Matt Hardy Show, an online reality show following WWE wrestler Matt Hardy is having their first season released on DVD. In related news the producers of the show are being sued by the Ultimate Warrior for their documentary "Always Believe." Apparently Warrior is the only person who is supposed to always believe, not you. Credit: thematthardyshow.com

-Lance Storm has announced that he will come out of retirement to face American Dragon Bryan Danielson at the April 1st Ring of Honor Show in Chicago Ridge, Illinois. This could be an April Fool's joke, but we all know that Storm doesn't have a sense of humor. Credit: PWInsider.com

-To continue the Milano Collection AT story from Ring of Honor last week, they are now reporting that AT will go to Japan to have some work done on his neck. He will miss his dates for the company this weekend. That's their story anyway. Jay Fury will take his place in the trios tournament and partner with Sal Rinauro and Tony Mamaluke. Credit: ROHwrestling.com

-Samoas Joe will be forced out of his Ring of Honor dates for this weekend in Ohio due to a severe staph infection. Low Ki will replace him and the card will be reshuffled. Credit: ROHwrestling.com

-The last episode of TNA Impact! scored an 0.9 rating, up from 0.8 the week before. Slow and steady…just gets you canceled. Credit: PWInsider.com

-TNA has announced that the World X tournament will return again in May. Additionally they have several DVD releases slated for the upcoming year including a Best of Samoa Joe DVD, TNA's Bloodiest Brawls and a disc featuring the women of TNA. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Announced for this Saturday's episode of Impact! is Jeff Jarrett vs. Jay Lethal, Rhino vs. Abyss and an angle centering around Sting. Credit: PWInsider.com

-The behind the scenes word is that Jarrett and Sting had a sit down recently to discuss his future in the company. Sting will most likely be off the next two pay per views. This will build to an angle where Sting will return in order to exact revenge and shut the mouths of Jarrett and his group. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Dave Hebner has been seen watching TNA matches for the past few weeks. As part of the angle, TNA.com has announced that Hebner is serving as a ‘management consultant' evaluating talent for the top brass. Also to further the Raven angle of him being out of the company due to his loss on the recent ppv to Sean Waltman his bio and subsite has been taken down by TNA.com Credit: TNA.com

-The Legends of Wrestling pay per view is set to tape on March 5th at the Hard Rock Live Studios at Universal Studios in Florida. Those confirmed for the show at this time are Bobby Heenan, Jimmy Hart, Diamond Dallas Page, Bruno Sammartino, Kamala, Koko B. Ware and Mike Graham. Credit: PWInsider.com

-SoCal Wrestling is the new organization that will be given a tryout by Mtv for a continuing series. Talent reported to be involved include Vampiro, PJ Polanco, Sean Waltman, New Jack, Jack Evans, Matt Sydal and Teddy Hart. Hart may also be involved in booking matches and putting the shows together. Dark matches for the first taping have been announced. These matches will be a way for Mtv to judge the depth of talent on the roster. These matches are Puma vs. Tommy Williams, Human Tornado vs. Delirious vs. Alter Boy Luke and Disco Machine, Joey Ryan and Topgun Talwar vs. Scorpio Sky, Zokre and Phoenix Star. Credit: PWInsider.com

RAW THOUGHTS

-If that had been a trailer for a real movie at the opening, I think I would opt to see BloodRayne instead. If Jerry Lawler is that hard up to see live sex I'm sure Lita could use some quarters to do her laundry. Notice Edge is still carrying Cena's personalized belt. I want to see who Edge gets to tag with him, because I think they've established that the whole locker room hates his guts more than they do Triple H's. I don't think you're considered a transitional champion if you drop it back to the guy you took it from. "I'm not going to lose it 16 times like Ric Flair…I'm just going to lose it once and never be heard from again." Iron Sheik and Mick Foley are legends. He should have name dropped Stan Stasiak. I'm tired of hearing about how much screwing Edge and Lita do. You know the saying is if you have to brag about it, you have to not be getting that much. Chris Jericho is kicking himself for not coming up with Magical Redheaded Ho as a band name. Cena forgot that Edge reads Ivanhoe to Lita before bed every night. Great out of left field reference to Jim Duggan. Duggan should be Cena's partner tonight.

-Creative chair shot spot in the Carlito vs. Kane match. Did Kane lose his other contact? That just makes him look like he has an eye infection.

-With Edge pimping Lita out every week she's crossing that thin line from ho to whore. Oh, it's Big Show. She must be barbecuing him a ham or something.

-Don't trust him Big Show. Edge is a lousy pimp. If Show grows the beard in he's got the late seventies Orson Welles/Raymond Burr suave big man look going on.

-Yeah, I want to bitch slap Mickie James. I went to high school with girls like that. I used to bitch slap them to. No really. I used to get sent to the principal's office for bitch slapping bitches all the time. It's a hobby.

-It would be cooler if Coach was wearing a Rick Strom jersey. I don't think either him or King has a chance of winning the Rumble, but then again neither does any of the other cannon fodder left, so might as well go for the gag entrant. I'm surprised some legend isn't getting a birth. Can we all say Kevin Von Erich.

-I'm still waiting on Shelton's mama to feed him a bowl of Chunky soup. Shelton Benjamin is a mama's boy, but Shawn's a man whore. I'm smelling a mixed tag match for next week. Shawn Michaels' mother will be played by Morgan Fairchild. He will then do her.

-I'd be interested in picking up the Billy Graham DVD. I can't say I've seen a lot of his matches from his prime. Put Billy Graham in the Rumble, screw it.

-Note to Jerry Lawler. Ben Roethlisberger will have this coming weekend off because the Super Bowl is the next weekend. Do you really think Vince McMahon would hold a major pay per view opposite the Super Bowl? Actually, he might. There is pizza in hell, it's just brick oven pizza. That enzuiguiri running up the ropes was a bitching spot. That sort of leaping suplex was sweet to. Michaels is hitting less stuff off the top than Ric Flair.

-With all that build up Edge was giving I figured they would flash to him talking to Viscera or something. Edge will probably just wind up with his old standby Snitsky.

-Vince only has more money than God because he diversified his bonds. "Back when this business was all sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll." Vince is reuniting the Freebirds? Sweet! Vince proved right there that he really is the devil. It would be awesome if Vince is shown partying later snorting coke with Marty Jannetty. Shawn is going to be the first man in the Rumble, whoo-hoo. You know several guys have won the match from the first position, but never the last. Make him go in last and have basically a ppv walk on.

-It's the debut of the Spirit Squad. It's like Queer Eye for the Varsity Club. I would pay good money to have Steve Williams just run out and spine buster all those pukes. They make the Mean Street Posse look like a Green Berets unit.

-I'm waiting for the day Big Show jobs out a ring of midgets or wrestles a bear. I sense bad things because Triple H is back into doing ten minute promos that ramble on and don't say anything. "I'm tired of taking on charity cases…screw Hurricane Katriana victims."

-Process of elimination. With all the other heels gone Chris Masters was the only guy really left. Triple H might be the king of kings, but Flair rises from the dead every week. He's also older than Methuselah.

WWE FANTASY MANAGER
It's back for season six. It's still about the same and I'll still probably suck at it. One thing I noticed is that Shelton's Benjamin's mother has been added to the game as "Momma of Shelton," which makes her sound like a Star Trek alien. The Royal Rumble is the first week, so it makes picks easier.

Kurt Angle ($5 million): There is no way that Angle drops the title to Mark Henry. I don't care how much of a push he's getting.

Triple H ($5 million): If he doesn't win you know he will show very well. If Cena wins the title back I think him taking the Rumble is more certain. If not, who's to say.

Edge ($4 million): A good part of me says that John Cena will get the World Title back. However, another part thinks they might let Edge run a little longer with it. It's been an exciting angle and it's just getting underway. Since my strongest urge is to go with Cena, I'll bet Edge.

The Boogeyman ($3 million): JBL is the Honky Tonk Man. After his run with the IC title Honky jobbed out to everybody. Layfield is no longer a title threat. Boogeyman is becoming a phenomenon. The train won't run long, but it's full steam ahead right now. The way the angle has been booked Boogeyman should go over.

Randy Orton ($4 million): He's booked to face Christ Benoit on Smackdown. I have a feeling he will go over and then on to the Royal Rumble. Angle vs. Orton is not a bad Wrestlemania main event. I might be rolling the dice on him a bit, but I have a feeling.

Bobby Lashley ($3.5 million): Lashley is getting a huge push still. His involvement in the Rumble has given him some hype. He'll probably enter the match early and get a lot of eliminations and time in.

Rob Van Dam ($3 million): RVD makes his return at the Royal Rumble. I say he makes a good run. Final four easy. A few eliminations should be in that.

Finlay ($2.5 million): I love Fit Finlay, sue me. You know he'll get a match on Smackdown this week. They'll probably put him in the Rumble too. I could see him getting some eliminations to put him over as the new guy and a hard ass.

Smackdown for 1.26.06

Linda McMahon is in the ring. The Board of Directors have made their decision on the new general manager for Smackdown. They wanted someone who was tough, experienced, respected in the locker room and with a history in WWE. Without further ado please welcome…the bagpipes play…Rowdy Roddy Piper. Piper comes out in formal Scottish attire. The fans cheer him loudly. Piper says he bet people didn't think they would see the day when the bad seed of WWE, the punk Piper became the man. You see he was always a company man. When he was letting the New York police bash him in the head and Cyndi Lauper spit in his face while Hulk Hogan hugged Mr. T on Mtv it was for the good of the company. When he stepped in for a sick Bret Hart at the Royal Rumble and won the IC Title and then lost it back to Hart at Wrestlemania it was for the good of the company. When he laughed like a goon on commentary and tried to put over the Goobeldy Gooker at Survivor Series it was for the good of the company. But being a company man doesn't mean you're a push over. Piper is an ICON in this business. I Cower Over Nobody. He is a company man who won't be pushed around by the punks backstage, because he used to be one and that's what WWE needs on Smackdown.

Funk throws the referee to the floor and wears the chair out on Richards.

Billy Kidman beats the crap out of Shark Boy. Every time he gets him down Kidman plays to the crowd by making belt motions around his waist. He wants the Cruiserweight strap back from AJ Styles. Kidman body slams Shark Boy, gives him a double stomp to the gut then goes up top for the SSP. That's all she wrote.

Jake Roberts shakes hands with Roddy Piper in the back. Piper would like to say he's sorry Jake didn't get the job, but he really can't. Roberts says that ok, he knows there is no love loss between them and he doesn't expect any hands out from Piper. He also doesn't want Piper to expect him to be his lackey, fetching him coffee and breaking necks when he points. Piper doesn't expect that at all. In fact he's got a guy for that. However, Piper is willing to extend Roberts some professional courtesy. Name the position he wants on Smackdown and he'll give it to him. He wants to be a road agent, a manager, an interviewer, clean up after Big Show. Roberts says fine, he doesn't want anything major. How about just the commentary position on Velocity. Piper says they got a guy in Al Snow. Sure he's a little strange, talks to reindeer heads, writes on his forehead backwards, but we all have our foibles. Roberts says that's just like Piper to promise one thing and back down. No, no, how about this. They will settle it old school, in the ring. At No Way Out it's Al Snow vs. Jake Roberts for the job.

Raven and Dreamer get in on the action and they all fight to the back.

Booker T meets up with Big Show in the back. He thought they made a pretty good team last week and thinks they will again tonight. Booker T was thinking about maybe them making it a permanent team. He thinks they could wreck some havoc on Smackdown. And with his contract clause all he has to do is snap his fingers and they get a tag title shot, Roddy Piper or no Roddy Piper as GM. Big Show ponders it for a moment than shakes Booker's hand. He's on.
Segment Rating: 78%

Booker T and Big Show make quick work of The Light. The heels take advantage for a moment, but Booker gets the charging forearm on The Follower and hot tags Big Show. JBL backed by his corporation goes to see Roddy Piper. He extends his hand and introduces himself. Piper knows this has to be business and not pleasure. JBL then puts his corporation over and tells Piper what great things they could do for him and Smackdown. He's willing to let Piper hire, for a modest fee, the Corporation as his personal security force. Piper says he knew security would be an issue so since Smackdown was in Dallas, Texas he went looking through the seediest bars and back alleys looking for the meanest, roughest, toughest Texans to stock his security squad with. And he found the perfect Dallas native to be its head. Bradshaw doesn't think Piper understands the offer. He wants the Bradshaw Corporation with him not against him. That's the type of thinking that got Stephanie McMahon in trouble. Piper tells JBL to go off and screw his bitches…but he can leave Jillian Hall and Dawn Marie with him. Paul London, EZ Money, IRS and Orlando Jordan take offense and try to jump Piper. He calls for security. Kevin Von Erich appears in a red shirt with security written on the back. He puts the claw on JBL and he flails around. A gang of huge, scary looking guys come out and beat off the JBL Corporation. Bradshaw has blood gushing from his head. Von Erich finally lets him go and he runs away. Piper puts his arms around Hall and Marie. Let's discuss some new positions for them on Smackdown. (I had to get Kevin Von Erich in there somewhere. Todd said he was surprised he wasn't on the general manager list.)
Segment Rating: 74%

A shook up Paul London is controlled early by AJ Styles. Styles makes a rare gaff in telegraphing a backdrop and takes a swinging neckbreaker. Knee lift off the ropes flips Styles to his back and he takes a diving elbow. London sets him up for the Styles Clash to add insult to injury. Styles reverses and nails it for the win. Billy Kidman then runs in and they brawl. Styles gets knocked to the floor. Kidman does a springboard SSP off the ropes and wipes Styles out. He pumps his fist to the crowd and walks to the back.

Roddy Piper shakes hands with Brock Lesnar. He thanks Brock for meeting with him. He congratulates him on winning the Royal Rumble. Piper would love to let his legacy on Smackdown begin with bringing Brock Lesnar back to the brand and having him wrestle for the title at Wrestlemania. Whether he goes against Kane and can show his strength and brawling skills or against Rey Mysterio where he can show his speed and agility for a man his size it will be a great main event. Lesnar says he really wants to get his hands on Triple H, but he's considering all his options. Robert Lashley then enters. He ignores Piper and gets in Lesnar's face. If it weren't for Brock he would have won the Royal Rumble. That was his match, his title shot and Brock stole it. Brock says he earned it. He survived all 29 guys. Lashley walked in at the end and cherry picked. There will be no cherry picking tonight, Lashley says they should take it to the ring. Lesnar takes off his jacket and starts loosening his tie. Piper calls in Kevin Von Erich to keep the two apart. Kevin holds the claw up to Lashley and shakes his head to say ‘you don't want any of this.' Piper has no problem with them getting it on in the ring, but not tonight. He says to do it at No Way Out. They agree.

Snow doesn't know what to say to that. Roberts smirks at tricking Snow up. Roberts sits in on commentary for the rest of the show.

Matt Hardy says Cena thinks he's playing mind games with him. All he's doing is proving to him and all the Smackdown fans that he's running scared. He's scared of losing that title that was handed to him on a silver platter to a real man in a real match. Next week Hardy will be on Smackdown, but he won't put any bets on Cena showing up.
