The only news that interests me is Golddust and Jim Duggan becoming a tag team
MAILBAG
Dear Leonard,
I like your column. In fact, I read it every week. It therefore makes me feel slightly bad to say the following:
I don't like the EWR stuff.
I'm not going to throw a hissy fit about it, and for all I know all your other readers might really like it. I'm only one guy. But it'd be a dereliction of duty not to offer you comprehensive feedback on what is in fact an entertaining column.
Looking forward to next week,
-Matt
A: I thank you for your open and honest feedback. I get about one email that says they don't like the EWR section for every three that do. Funnily, when I got your email I had another new one in my mailbox that started off with how much they love that section. I understand that it's miscellaneous and that's why I put it at the very end of the column. It's like dessert. Not everyone is going to have room for dessert or want it for every meal, but some people like it more than the dinner itself. So when you get that point, just stop reading. Not that it wouldn't save me time and effort in not doing it, but my goal with this column is to be fresh and different while putting in the most bang for your buck. Not that you pay anything to read this column. Wish you did.
I don't like the Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels angle.
You may not care for that angle much, but even you have to admit that Shawn Michaels vs. Shane-o Mac is an appealing option.
-Todd
I will admit that it is a more appealing option. I've always liked Shane McMahon in and out of the ring. The match between him and Michaels I think would just be insane. I could see them reversing the superplex or Shane taking a super kick off the Titantron, just something nuts. And if you just have one match of that nature I think it has a place at Wrestlemania. I'm still not keen on the overall angle, but the introduction of Shane has improved matters somewhat from my perspective.
On your Superstar Billy Graham DVD review. Just to let you know, about your "O'Neil then says "Potluck" Ivan Putski or "Pollock" Ivan Putski, I can't make it out and I'm not sure which is worse." comment. Pollok is not a insulting term. When pronounce right it actually translates to polish as Polish Man or Polish Men. Or properly translated... man who is of Polish descent. Kind like how senior is used in Spanish. I believe it's pronounce pole-lak. Only when pronounced verbally as POLE-LOCK is it derogative term. More because of the users verbal ignorance against the Polish language.
great column btw
-NYGroover
Thank you for your information. I remember a few years ago, I think it was Anne Landers, got in trouble for calling the Pope a Pollock. Then she had to defend herself that she didn't mean it in a derogatory way. I could make another comparison involving the ‘n' word, but not even I will go there. Thanks again.
NEWS AND NOTES
-The man who played Trish's date Jack on RAW Monday was just a model WWE hired for the night. I'm sure that's not the first time that's happened with him. Credit: PWInsider.com
-John Cena will be in India tomorrow and Friday to meet and greet with WWE fans. Just don't ask where you can get a cheeseburger at John and you'll be fine. Credit: PWInsider.com
-Smackdown did a 2.9 rating last week. Yeah, beat that "Smallville." Wait, you can. Credit: PWInsider.com
-Several matches for Smackdown have already been officially announced by WWE. They include Nunzio vs. Gregory Helms for the Cruiserweight Title, a four way for the US Title shot at No Way Out between Chris Benoit, Orlando Jordan, JBL and Matt Hardy and the Undertaker vs. Mark Henry. If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all. Credit: WWE.com
-Monday night on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" Candice Michelle revealed that she will be wrestling for the WWE Women's Title at Wrestlemania 22. We would assume against Trish Stratus. She might be part of a larger match for the title, like a battle royal or gauntlet match, it's hard to say at this time. Primarily the interview focused on Candice as the GoDaddy.com girl. Credit: flipping over from Letterman
-After RAW went off the air on Monday John Cena defeated Edge in a dark main event. It was then announced that it was Coach's birthday. The crowd sang to him and Mick Foley gave him the Mandible Claw. I always get socks for my birthday too. Credit: PWInsider.com
-In your online Heat report High Impact defeated Team Elite in a dark match of Deep South tag teams. Good, now bump them and let's rebuild the division. Golddust pinned Lance Cade. Chavo Guerrero defeated Johnny Pariesi, who was just as surprised as I am that he is still with the company. Viscera and Val Venis defeated The Hearthrobs and Snitsky and Tomko in order to win the right to get their asses handed to them in the near future by Kane and Big Show. Credit: PWInsider.com
-Danny Inferno, who would probably love the dry humping gimmick we cooked up for him, and Elijah Burke will be moving from OVW to Deep South for further training. Credit: PWInsider.com
-WWE is considering keeping Hacksaw Jim Duggan on the roster as a permanent fixture and possibly teaming him with Golddust, which is the default plan when they don't know what else to do with a guy. I could also see that being a new show on the CW. A patriotic dimwit and a movie quoting queen are forced to team up in "HOOOOOOOOOmo!" Credit: PWInsider.com
-WWE has entered into a deal with On Command Video Corporation to provide programming for the cruise ships and hotels that the company provides television service for. This will include WWE 24/7 and pay per views, starting with the upcoming Wrestlemania. See now I have more reasons to check into a hotel than just illicit sex. On Command services over 100 hotel chains throughout the US including Hilton, Hyatt, Mariott, Radison, Ramada and the Four Seasons. Credit: WWE press release
-WWE will be among six content providers showcasing digital prototypes in the American Film Institute's Digital Content Lab Semi-Annual Production Wrap Showcase in Hollywood. Let me break that down. Basically, WWE will be part of an interactive television demo. For example, a commercial for Wrestlemania will air and a viewer could click an icon on the screen and order the show, then from there be able to access other materials and offers. This would be beneficial for WWE in expanding access to their pay per views and On Demand service. Credit: tmcnet.com
-WWE has filed for two new trademarks this week. They are "Cyber Sunday" and "King of Kings." I'm thinking Jesus beat them to that last one. Credit: PWInsider.com
-A match listing has been released for the upcoming WWE Divas DVD. The main portion will feature lingerie shoots with Ashley, Mickie James, Trish Stratus, Stacy Keibler, Melina, Sharmell, Lita, Candice Michell, Kristal, Maria, Victoria and Torrie Wilson. No Jillian Hall…hmm…The bonus matches are as follows, like that is what you will be buying the disc for.
*Christy v Trish - Arm Wrestling Match (RAW - 28/03/05)
*Trish v Victoria - WWE Women's Championship Match (RAW - 26/09/05)
*Christy v Candice - Lingerie Pillow Fight (RAW - 16/05/05)

*Six-Diva Tag Match (17/10/05)
*Halloween Costume Contest (RAW - 31/10/05)
*Trish/Ashley v Candice/Maria - Santa's Little Helper Match (RAW - 19/12/05)

-Jose Chaparro of NWS in Puerto Rico cleared up matters on the company's recent major cuts of talents. Several names where listed as cut by accident. Shane, Diamante, Huracan Castillo, The Maniac, Livewire, Ash, Hammet, El Nene, Anarchy/TNT, Stefano, Onix, William De La Vega, Crazy Rudy, Bandido, Barrabas, Chicky Starr, Yaritza and Soraya are all still with the company. Anyone not listed who was currently with NWS has been released or will be working on an appearance by appearance basis. There are no plans for the company to pursue Ricky Banderas of IWA. Several IWA workers who will conveniently remain nameless contacted NWS on pursuing a deal, but nothing is occurring on that front. NWS will have their anniversary show on March 11th and 12th with talent on loan from WWC, TNA and other US independents. Credit: prwrestling.com
-Workers from Dragon's Gate will be at several events for Ring of Honor at the end of March. RoH previously used talent from the company last summer. The talent set to work the dates are CIMA, Naruki Doi, Masato Yoshino, Dragon Kid, Genki Horiguchi and Ryo Saito. Currently the men will be at shows in Detroit on March 30th and Chicago on March 31st and April 1st. Credit: ROHwrestling.com
-NWA:TNA held a press conference on Monday with several of their workers in attendance. The big news is that Spike TV will be moving Impact! to a primetime slot at 9 pm on Thursdays. Just a week ago I said they would probably get a primetime show this year and that they should stay away from WWE programming. I have ESP. The show will replay on Saturdays in their current slot. No word at this time on what will be done with the Monday replay slot. The change will happen on April 13th. The show will remain one hour in length at this time, but the company is exploring doing a longer live show. There are no plans to start a second show right now. Credit: PWInsider.com
-TNA might want to hedge their bets. After last week's record 1.1 rating the show fell to a 0.7, slightly below their average. Credit: WrestlingObserver.com
-TNA had a conference call yesterday hosted by Dixie Carter. Among highlights:
* Impact! is doing 59% better average rating than Velocity did in the same timeslot a year ago on Spike TV.
* Mondays were never discussed for the new primetime slot for Impact! Three more TNA specials are planned for primetime as well, but not targeted for Mondays.
* There are no plans to bring in more big name wrestlers at this time, such as Brock Lesnar or Bill Goldberg.
* Carter has considered becoming on air character, but does not want to take time away from other talent. Carter is an actress best known for starring on "Designing Women."
* Questions from 411's own Larry Csonka revealed that the TNA is excited about their video game currently in development and they are considering international touring.
* Samoa Joe then fielded questions. His health is good and he's looking forward to the match on Sunday. The details of his new contract are being ironed out now. Joe did want a pay increase leading to the new contract, but it has nothing to do with the reported big money contract given to Kevin Nash. Joe spoke with ‘the other company,' but wants to stay in TNA. TNA has not pressured Joe to lay off of his heavy independent schedule. Joe is interested in working with Abyss, Monty Brown and Ron Killings in the future. Alex Shelley, Austin Aries and Roderick Strong are all among guys that Joe thinks deserve a bigger push and will get it with the new time slot.
-Despite what was said in the conference call, reports have circulated that Chris Jericho and Bret Hart have both put out feelers to TNA. Jericho has reportedly said that if they offered the type of money that Sting received he would sign on. Meanwhile, Hart recently met with Jeff Jarrett. Credit: WrestlingObserver.com
-Konnan and Homicide are reportedly pushing management to bring Low Ki back into the company. Credit: WrestlingObserver.com
-Samoa Joe has healed from his staph infection and will be resuming his full wrestling schedule. You think carrying a bloody towel around with him had something to do with it? Credit: PWInsider.com
-Joanie Laurer, the former Chyna, will be appearing on "The Howard Stern Show" March 1st. Additionally she will be taking part in VH-1's "Surreal Life: Fame Games." When reality shows run out of ideas they just bring back their old stars and make them compete in odd sports for $100,000. Credit: PWInsider.com
-Jimmy Yang will host a wrestling training camp in Cincinnati, Ohio for six weeks starting on April 6th. The camp will be held on Thursday and Friday evenings from 6 to 9 pm. It will be held at the HWA training center in nearby Evandale. The cost of the camp is $500. Contact akioyang@yahoo.com or visit www.akioyang.com for more information. Yang has wrestled for WCW, WWE, NWA-TNA, Ring of Honor and All Japan. He was trained at the WCW Power Plant under Paul Orndorff and alongside Akio. Credit: Jimmy Yang press release
RAW THOUGHTS
-If Maria is in the ring to interview Edge that probably means she's getting a beat down or stripped. Ok, the logic here is that Lita hit Edge to draw the DQ win because she knew Edge was screwed and the win would give him another rematch. There is something so convoluted about that I bet Dusty Rhodes came up with it. I'll put money down that no one calls him "Rated R." I would be happy to be a former WWE champion. Edge should be too. When he finally gets fired or is a broken down has been in his forties on the independent circuit he can earn an extra twenty bucks and a bowl of soup by being billed as a former world champion. Ask Ronnie Garvin. Did they give Hacksaw Jim Duggan new music? When has "take it easy" been a catchphrase of his. Let me channel Bobby Heenan for a second, how can Hacksaw call it down the middle when he's cross eyed and can't tell where the middle is. Maria gets a beat down. I have ESP. I also have déjà vu. It's going to be Edge vs. Jim Duggan at Wrestlemania.
-Great counter by Kane by dropping down out of the full nelson and hitting a kick to the head of Chris Masters. That showed some great flexibility. That was a huge win for Masters.
-Here's an idea. Edge is pimping out Lita every week. He should have to go against someone like Golddust and then be forced to be a male ho, turn the tables. I sensed where Vince was going with his shocked browbeating of Edge. The man is true to his character if nothing else. He's a scumbag at heart.
-I think having to repeat the Royal Rumble women's match says that they've booked themselves into a corner. They don't know what to do with the storyline. Coach hasn't been in wrestling that long if that is the fastest count he's ever seen. Now Teddy Long was the master of the fast count.
-Jack is the luckiest man on earth. Here are ten things I know about Trish's date Jack just by looking at him.
1) Drives a Mazda
2) Believes discussing his stock portfolio is acceptable dinner conversation
3) Prides himself on his handball game
4) Curls one pound dumbbells while looking in the mirror
5) Knows what wine goes with every food, unless you through something bizarre at him like pasta
6) Enjoys the Dave Matthews Band
7) Has season theater tickets leftover from his last girlfriend
8) Shaves his chest, yet wears a merken
9) Owns a light blue jogging suit with a white stripe, has never actually jogged while wearing it
10) Met a black man once
-Due to Golddust scaring Shelton's momma last week she's now confined to a wheelchair. I think this is a perfect setup for the Boogeyman to show up. Ok, so we got Eugene. Both those characters kind of come from the same end of the drug addled creative pool.
-Ric Flair backing Triple H out into the middle of the ring with his fists up and then flopping is one of the five best Flair flops of all time. I loved that match because it was just an old school solid match with good psychology and storytelling.
-Maria's wrestling outfit is less than most strippers' outfits. If I was Cena I'd be careful. Batista got sued for stuff like that. I guess when you're just such a stud you have to share it with the world. I say make it a different kind of ‘four way' and put it on pay per view.
-Vince McMahon took about 8 minutes to say, "Shawn you're being forced into retirement by me next week." Were they running short on time there? I'm waiting on ‘a lost his smile reference.' And Marty Jannetty to superkick Shawn through a barbershop window. Maybe next week.
-I don't like Shelton's momma having a heart attack. I'll wait to see where it plays into storylines, but I think it's too dramatic a turn.
-Rob Van Dam vs. Carlito really surprised me. It was a great inventive match. I said that I like Carlito, but he's yet to impress me. He really impressed me there with his move set and overall ring work. That springboard senton was nuts.
-I'm reasonably sure that an opposing team can't forcibly tag for the other team. Unless the heel team is Samoan. Being spanked and strangled is just Wednesday night for Maria. That was the granddaddy of all heel miscommunication there. Look at sneaky Maria stealing the win. She's a minx. Doesn't Mick Foley usually get his ass handed to him when he's the special guest referee? Oh, I bet they're going to do Foley vs. Edge at Wrestlemania. If Foley is in shape that might be decent.

Synopsis: Despite my big guns not performing up to par, everyone I picked still scored in the top 12. I believe this is the only time I can say that. For a non-ppv week I'm very happy with this showing. This week was very easy with the participants in the RAW tournament for a title shot already announced. However, I think you have to look ahead in how things shape up instead of just picking who you think will outright win the match. However, that tactic didn't work for me as I only got half the bracket correct.
Triple H ($5 million): The plan still seems to be Triple H vs. John Cena at Wrestlemania, so that means he has to go over here. I got that one right.
Big Show ($4 million): My thinking was that Shawn Michaels would lose by McMahon interference to keep that storyline rolling. This would also put Big Show vs. Triple H in the next round and they were feuding recently. Nailed this one in him going over, just not the way I thought exactly.
Carlito ($3.5 million): You can't have Rob Van Dam win in the first match of the feud with Carlito. Well, I guess you can.
Kane ($4 million): I went with Kane here because I went with Carlito in the other match up. Then Kane vs. Triple H in the final makes a good match up. I called that wrong.
Gregory Helms ($2.5 million): The match with Nunzio was announced on the last Smackdown. There is no way Helms loses the belt in his first defense.
Shelton Benjamin ($3 million): Benjamin has been going over steadily on RAW and the angle involving his mother gets a good bit of time every episode. I wished I had had him last week. I figured he might be a risky pick with the title shot tournament taking up a bulk of the show, but I rolled the dice. I crapped out. The unpredictable got me as Shelton was made the new opponent for Big Show and promptly lost.
Rey Mysterio ($4 million): The Royal Rumble winner got jobbed out last week. He has to go over this week in order to build up and look strong for the ppv match against Randy Orton. It looks like Mysterio will lose the match with Orton, so he has to look as strong as possible going into the match so people think he has a chance.
Chris Benoit ($4 million): Benoit wrestles week in and week out, even though he hasn't been fairing very well lately. That makes me think he will go over with a strong win this week. I'm guessing they take a week off from the Booker T storyline and just let Benoit job somebody out. Basically after I formed the team I knew I wanted Benoit was the best guy in the $4 million price range.

Chris Jericho sits in on commentary for Johnny Kashmere vs. Jamie Noble. Jericho chides Kashmere for being all talk when he's walked the walk for years now. Kashmere thinks he deserves a world title shot after barely a month in WWE. Jericho was the first undisputed champion in WWE history. If anyone deserves the Wrestlemania title shot it's him. He was the runner up to Lesnar in the Rumble and if Lesnar stays on RAW like he should, the match should be his. In the ring, Noble locks in the trailer hitch, but one of Kashmere's girls grabs his arms and drags him toward the ropes. He grabs them to break. Kashmere suckers Noble with a drop toehold to lay him across the ropes. He straddles him. Kashmere Sweater. Johnny puts his feet on the ropes to get the pin. He jumps to the floor and celebrates with his women. Jericho slides into the ring. He tells the referee that Kashmere had his feet on the ropes. The ref asks the crowd. They back Y2J up. The decision is reversed to a DQ win for Noble. Kashmere is mad.

The usually smug and confident Raven appears to reflect on matters.

In fact he deserves it more so because he's Johnny Kashmere and he makes all this look good. He'll even make Jericho look good at No Way Out. Jericho has London locked in the Walls of Jericho. The referee is down watching London asking if he wants to quit. Kashmere grabs Michael Cole's coffee mug and jumps on the apron. He wings it at Jericho and smacks him in the head. Jericho lets go of the hold and charges. Kashmere catches his head and clotheslines him on the top rope. The referee misses it. Jericho turns around into a DDT by London. London Calling steals the win.

Rolling Thunder leads to the cover and Von Erich counts the pin. Raven looks to reenter the ring. Kevin shows Raven the claw. Raven leaves.
