411 Fact or Fiction 08.10.06: Jeff Hardy, ECW, Diva Search, More
Posted by Ashish on 08.10.2006

Welcome to another week of Fact or Fiction! This week, 411 staffers John Dalton and Jeff Small go at it!

1. Hulk Hogan is exaggerating his knee injury to get out of Summerslam.

John Dalton: FACT. Hogan is definitely faking this injury to get out of Summerslam. Now I'm not saying it's not possible to hurt a knee getting up off the couch, but even at his age its still unlikely. Think about it, last year he was in a dream match with Shawn Michaels (which he won by the way) and this year WWE wants him to job to Randy Orton? This match would re-establish Orton as a main eventer if Hogan does the job. Then we would finally get that Orton-Cena match WWE wants. Face it, unless Vince opens his check book a little wider to buy "a miracle of recovery" then match ain't gonna happen. Orton will probably get Sgt. Slaughter as a substitute or something.

Jeff Small: FICTION (I would have answered this question the same before he made his decision). Hogan hasn't ruled out wrestling at Summerslam. He's just playing his cards to see if a) the status of his knee, b) to put more hype on his match (this will bump it up to the main event of the night) and c) if he can get more money. While Hogan is definitely worthy of not being trusted, I can't see why he risks losing a nice paycheck. And by the way, he ain't jobbing to Randall Orton.

Score: 0 for 1

2. Jeff Hardy won't last a year with WWE now that they seem to be enforcing the Wellness Program.

John Dalton: FACT. As much as I hate to say it, Hardy probably won't last a year. I would compare Jeff to a "first round bust" in the NFL. He has all the tools and potential, but the wrong personality and too many personal problems to get to the top. It's really a shame too, because right now it's the only chance his brother Matt has of getting pushed and not released again.

Jeff Small: FACT. As I said in my Sunday Small-For-All News Report this past week, he won't be lasting any more than 5 weeks once he debuts. It might not even have to be due to WELLNESS~ as the dude is late to almost every taping AND Johnny Ace will make him take off his smock and put on a suit.

Score: 1 for 2

3. All the remaining Diva Search contestants are lame.

John Dalton: FACT. All the divas were lame to begin with. Now the original diva search wasn't too bad but now we keep getting the same old stuff. The same generic, clueless, corny, anorexic girls. And even though they get eliminated, WWE still sign them. So what's the point of the contest anyway? I'll be glad when it's off my TV. JT will probably win but I think Layla is hotter.

Jeff Small: FACT. After watching the "diss the diva" contest, I can safely say the rest of the contestants are lame. Hell, I was rooting for that Rebecca chick and she already has a contract. Now it looks like either Leyla or Jen will win (probably Jen) and neither will take the place of the Miz as the Best Diva in the WWE.

Score: 2 for 3

4.The main event of the first new ECW PPV should be Rob Van Dam vs. Sabu for the ECW Title.

Jeff Small: FICTION. It's way, way too early to decide what the PPV main event will be. Come December, who knows the status of either of the two men. Plus, you can't count out Kurt Angle in the main event scene. In fact, ECW has done a decent job of creating new characters already that one might have broken out enough to warrant a main event push (CM Punk, perhaps). I understand the belief that two ECW originals should be in the main event of the first ECW PPV; however, it has already been beaten in our heads that this is the new ECW.

John Dalton: FICTION. Like Jeff said, it's way too early to tell. There are too many things that can and will happen between now and then. However, I wouldn't expect ECW originals because this isn't the same ECW. I would expect to see RVD vs. Kurt Angle or maybe a triple threat match with Sabu added. Either way, I think it's a lock that RVD will be in the main event because he is cornerstone of WWECW.... unless he gets suspended again.

Score: 3 for 4

5. One year from now the ratings for ECW on Sci-Fi will be down to between 1.3-1.6.

Jeff Small: FICTION. Again it's way too early to speculate ratings. Hell, ratings really do not even matter as Sci-Fi would still be pleased with a 1.3 rating and there's only 2 ECW PPVs a year to push. Considering that not many viewers have been turned off from what has already been seen (even though the NY crowd tried to sway them), ECW should maintain its high rating for the near future.

John Dalton: FICTION. The rating may drop but I don't think it'll dip that low. Based solely off of what we've seen thus far I would say it gets down to about 1.8. I say this because no matter how bad the show gets, there are loyal WWE fans that will still watch it. Just look at the past two years of Smackdown! No matter how bad the product is, WWE will market it like it was the second coming.

Score: 4 for 5

6. Watching pro-wrestling, on average, leads to more violent tendencies.

Jeff Small: FICTION. I've been watching wrestling for years and I'm not a violent person. I would let you ask my girlfriend, but unfortunately, she's locked in my trunk.

John Dalton: FACT. Because the average person will always imitate what they see on TV. I did the same study for a college paper. But, it's not just wrestling; it's nearly everything on TV. It's the parents responsibility to teach their kids morale not TV. Oh and Jeff, I might need to borrow that car. Mr. Money in da Bank

Score: 4 for 6
