Getting Over 9.14.06: Shannon Moore!
Posted by Mike LaFave on 09.14.2006

Yes I know, it was supposed to be Harry Smith this week, but as Amy Smart said to James Van Der Beak in Varsity Blues, "things change Mox." I was all set to write the Harry Smith story when I received an urgent call from Geoff of 3 R's fame. He explained to me that he and Larry were having a discussion about Shannon Moore and they believed he would make a good topic for Getting Over. I balked at the idea at first because I'm not one to balk to political pressure, but when it became apparent that my job was being held hostage in exchange for the Shannon Moore story, I caved to their demands. Ok, so it didn't go down exactly like that, but regardless of how it happened, it's now time to Get Over Shannon Moore!
Getting Over Shannon Moore:

ECW on Sci-Fi 09/19 - After a commercial the camera zooms in on Shannon who is standing in the back, his face not covered in the paint job we've become accustomed to. "I've had a rough couple weeks to say the least. You could grow crops with the tears I've shed thanks to CM Punk. But he really did me a favor, I was too concerned with being "punk", and I was posing, because I'm not punk, I was just trying to fit in, but from now on I'm going to be myself. I gtg (writer's note: I'm not getting lazy, when I type it out like this, he's actually saying the letters, much like you'd type on AIM) and until then, you can read the entire mangled web of thoughts running through my head on my new Extreme Journal on ECW.com which will be updated weekly! ttyl."

ECW on Sci-Fi 09/26 - Shannon is making his way down to the ring for a match against Al Snow. Everyone's eyes immediately focus on Shannon's new hair style. The Crazy Mohawk has been combed down, and dyed jet back. There is a long bang that runs down to his jaw line that is dark red. He seems motivated by this new do and comes out firing against Snow. Shannon is surprising everyone as he dominates the veteran. Snow is eventually able to gain control, but it's not long before Shannon is able to hit the Mooregasm (side Blockbuster) and then head back to the top rope and nail Snow with the Halo (corkscrew senton) for his first ECW victory! Moore heads to the outside where he grabs a mic, while struggling to catch his breath he announces, "I have a new hair style and my first win in ECW, I think it's time to update my pics in honor of my new found sense of self. Next week you are all welcomed to attend the Shannon Moore photo shoot! ttyl."

ECW on Sci-Fi 10/03 - The camera is in tight on Shannon with a full body shot. It seems that wiping off the face paint and the change in hair style were a hint of what was to come as Moore is almost unrecognizable. He's wearing a black tee shirt with the outline of a turtle on it in green and jeans that Ashley Olson could fit in, holding those pants up, as if it was needed, is a rhinestone studded belt. As the camera pulls away we see that Shannon is in the bathroom of the arena. He is posing in front of the bathroom mirror while taking pics with his Razor cell phone. We hear Shannon say, "oh that ones going on my myspace" when a toilet flushes. Out from the stall, with a look that is a mixture of disgust and confusion on his face is Tommy Dreamer. The only way Dreamer knows how to react to this sight is to laugh. Shannon's feelings are visibly hurt as he begins to sulk. Tommy looks at Shannon and says, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean anything by it. To make it up to you, why don't you let me snap a couple shots for ya." Instantly Shannon's frown turns upside down as he hands Dreamer the Razor and strikes a pose. Tommy tells Shannon to, "say cheese" and then slaps the taste out of Shannon's mouth and then takes the picture and tosses the cell at Shannon who was too busy holding his face to bother catching the phone.

ECW on Sci-Fi 10/10 - Midway thought the show Styles and Tazz mention that Shannon Moore has requested time to address what happened at the "photo shoot" last week. Moore appears on the screen via webcam. "I apologize to all the Moron's who log into my journal every week who were hoping to see me tonight. But I have been agonizing about what happened to me at my photo shoot and I just haven't been able to bring myself to go out in public since that tragic day. A good thing came from the hours I've spent in bed with a box of tissues by my side; I realized exactly why Tommy Dreamer did what he did. Tommy Dreamer doesn't understand me, in fact, no one does, not my family and deep down, not even my closest friends. I just wish Tommy would look past our differences, because I think we could be bff's. ttyl."

Following Shannon's promo, Dreamer comes out for his scheduled match with Danny Doring. A Dreamer DDT a couple minutes into the match is all she wrote and Tommy picks up the win and picks up a mic, "Shannon, you got me all wrong, I do understand you. I understand that you're nothing more than a little sissy boy!"

ECW on Sci-Fi 10/17 - Dreamer makes his way down to the ring and doesn't hesitate before calling out Shannon. Moore comes out and meets Dreamer face to face in the ring. Shannon doesn't back down from Dreamer, instead he yells at him, "Tommy, you proved my point last week when you called me a sissy boy. Just because I like dying my hair, wearing my teenage sister's Gap blue jeans and occasionally kissing cute boys, that doesn't make me a sissy, or gay or any other label you want to try to put on me. I think all this hostility you've been showing towards me is just because you're jealous of me. You're jealous because I am an expert at something you just can't seem to do. I'm in touch with my emotions..." Before Shannon can get out another word, Tommy starts beating him all over the ring ending with a Dreamer Driver leaving Moore sprawled out in the middle of the ring.

ECW on Sci-Fi 10/24 - A tag team match with Shannon Moore and Danny Doring vs. Tommy Dreamer and Al Snow opens the show. Shannon slowly strolls down to the ring while listening to his i pod. Dreamer and Snow dominate the action from the start. Moore and Doring can't seem to get anything going. Time appears to be almost out for Shannon and Danny when out of no where Moore hits the Mooregasm on Snow for the win. Shannon puts his i pod back on and walks away as Dreamer stands in the ring shaking his head.

ECW on Sci-Fi 10/31 - Shannon comes down to the ring once again listening to his i pod. On his way down we notice he is carrying a laptop travel bag with him. The camera shows that in the ring there is a desk and a chair set up. Shannon sets his laptop on the desk and begins to type as he talks into a headset mic, "Dear Journal, I recently figured out just who Tommy Dreamer reminds me of. It had been bothering me for a long time, like when you can't think of the name of an actor in a movie you're watching. So needless to say, it was a relief when I was finally able to put my finger on it. Tommy Dreamer reminding me of the bullies I used to deal with in school, I wish I had you back then Journal, you would have made my teen years so much easier to deal with, but I digress. Bullies only beat up on smaller kids in order to feel better about themselves and I know that's why Tommy is acting so immature. I understand what he's going through though Journal. Who knows better than me what it's like to look in the mirror and not like what you see? No one, I'm the expert at that lol. In the past in a similar situation, I would have kept all my pain inside and hurt myself, but I have a much more constructive idea. This time I'm going to take my pain out on Tommy Dreamer! ttyl."

ECW on Sci-Fi 11/07 - Paul Heyman runs into Shannon in the back and has some advice for him, "Hey, Shannon. I love the Extreme Journal you've been keeping on ECW.com, it's been generating a lot of hits, but I, in my infinite wisdom have come up with a genius topic that will double your traffic! Write your thoughts about fighting Tommy Dreamer in a Singapore Cane Match at December to Dismember…because come December 3rd, that's exactly what you'll be doing!"

Tommy Dreamer is in the middle of a nasty fight with Test finally looks to be in position to pick up the W. The ref is attending to the fallen Test as Dreamer is calling for the Dreamer Driver. Just then, Moore sneaks up and smacks Tommy with his laptop! Test is able to crawl over and toss an arm on top of an unconscious Dreamer, three seconds later Test is announced that the winner of the match!

ECW on Sci-Fi 11/14 - Shannon Moore comes down to the ring; i pod in ear for his match vs. Tony Mamaluke. It's a fast paced match with a great deal of mat based wrestling. Moore gets the advantage and is on a roll when Dreamer comes running down through the crowd yielding a cane. He jumps into the ring, paying the referee no mind and beings to savagely beat down Moore with the cane leaving him a bloody mess!

ECW on Sci-Fi 11/21 - Shannon Moore shows up on our screen once again via webcam. "Last week I was in the middle of showcasing my unappreciated talent in the ring when Tommy Dreamer came out and beat me with a Singapore cane. I expect that from Tommy, because, frankly, that's the only way he knows how to behave, it would be like getting upset with a monkey for throwing his poop at you, he just doesn't know any better. But you guys, you call cheered his as he made me bleed. You guys are so predictable, it's a joke, you guys are all jokes. I give you breathtaking wrestling, but all you want is hardcore antics and bloodshed. Side note…I'm so unappreciated, almost as unappreciated as the best band in the music industry today, Hawthorne Heights, but moving along…I never thought I'd sell out, but that day has come. At December to Dismember I will show the world and more importantly I'll show you Tommy Dreamer, that I am the EMO Extremist! ttyl."

As soon as Shannon signs off, Dreamer's music hits and we cut to commercial. When we return, Dreamer is in the middle of addressing the crowd, "Shannon, I feel so bad for you, because I don't think you honestly understand what is in store for you at December to Dismember. You see Shannon, that name, December to Dismember, it's not just the name of a pay per view to me…it's a suggestion! Shannon Moore let this be your warning. You are about a week and a half away from going to the extreme. I'm going to take you to places that you only see in horror films!"

ECW on Sci-Fi 11/28 - In a six man tag, Shannon Moore teams up with Mike Knox and Matt Striker to take on the team of Tommy Dreamer, CM Punk and Sandman. Moore spends all of his energy and focus on avoiding Dreamer throughout the match. While Striker and Punk are the legal men Dreamer hops of the apron and grabs a cane from under the ring. Tommy sneaks around to his opponent's corner and whacks Shannon across the back with the cane! Shannon lets out a high pitch, ear-wrenching scream. Shannon starts to run down the ramp with Dreamer giving chase.

December to Dismember 12/03 - the time has come for Shannon Moore to go one on one with Tommy Dreamer in the Singapore Cane match! Shannon surprised everyone by taking the fight to Dreamer as soon as the opening bell sounds. It's not the Moore we're used to watching as he's more intent on inflicting punishment on his foe than out wrestling him. Dreamer is able to fight back but he does so using technical wrestling moves. This role reversal goes on for several minutes before Tommy drops the act and resorts to his usual methods. Now that Dreamer is dancing with the girl he brought to the dance, he is dominating the match. Moore is occasionally able to hit an offensive maneuver out of desperation but nothing of consequence. Tommy lays into Shannon with several severe cane shots, leaving large red welts all over the Emo kid's body. One shot from the cane to Shannon's head busts him wide open. Dreamer is like a shark and attacks at the first sight of the blood, further opening the wound. Tommy continues the beating for several more minutes with both Styles and Tazz pleading on commentary for Dreamer put an end to this horrific display, but the fans in attendance cheer on Dreamer for more violence! Tommy sets Moore up and drops him with Dreamer DDT directly on the concrete floor. The ref begs Dreamer to get Shannon in the ring and end the match. Tommy tosses Moore's seemingly lifeless body into the ring and picks him up on to his shoulders setting him up for the Dreamer Driver. Shannon, out of desperation is able to escape down Dreamer's back and nails a low blow on Tommy. Shannon spots Dreamer's cane in the ring and crawls on top of it so Tommy can't use it anymore. Dreamer beats Moore to his feat and when he goes to pick Shannon up, Moore hits him in between the eyes with the cane! Shannon and Tommy slowly rise to their feet, reaching their goal at approximately the same time. They both reach way back, swing for the fences and slam each other in the face with the canes. Both men fall like a ton of bricks, but Shannon happens to fall on top of Dreamer and the ref drops to make the count. Tommy kicks out, but it's a fraction of a second too late and the ref calls for the bell. Tommy stands in the ring, walking in circles around Shannon's motionless body as ring announcer Justin Roberts announces, "The winner of the match…the Emo Extremist, Shannon Moore!"

Over the Top:

Shannon Moore has been running with the same gimmick since Matt hardy first left for Raw, it's not over and never will be. I mean seriously, what's with the fur coat with spikes? Does that signify something? Shannon needs a new character and STAT! The Emo gimmick would be instant heel heat, just add water! Everyone would love to see his Emo ass get kicked! Bringing sexy back and acting punk is never going to get Shannon over, but the plan I laid out would.

Shannon has the ability play the character perfectly; the crowd would love to hate him. He also has the ability to bring it in the ring and get Extreme to earn respect. Many pundits in the IWC have written off Shannon Moore, but it's not Shannon Moore the wrestler that is the problem, it's the character. All Shannon has to do is go from being the Prince Of Punk, to the Emo Extremist and his career will sky rocket!

Over There:

I had all my thoughts ready to go for this week's shows when I decided that it would be far more pertinent to discuss the John Cena to SmackDown! stipulation in the TLC match at Unforgiven this Sunday.

From the moment this stipulation was announced, I've only heard two things. One, how Cana NEEDS to go to SmackDown! and two, how the WWE would never do it. One of those is false, but I hope the other is correct.

John Cena NEEDS to stay on Raw! Not only is Cena still the top draw in the company, but he's simultaneously the most over face and heel on the roster! That is a rare commodity my friends. Raw has almost twice the audience as SmackDown! and the USA network has been marketing the Dr. of Thuganomics hardcore ever since Homecoming. As you should be able to tell from my Getting Over SmackDown! series of columns, I want Raw and SmackDown! to both be A shows, but the fact is, Raw has more viewers and it would be foolish to move your top star off the top show.

Now, I know some of you are saying, "but Mike, by moving Cena to SmackDown!, ratings will boost and they need that because of the arrival of the CW network. " I'll agree that Cena moving to Friday Nights would result in a small boost in ratings, but this is a classic example of losing sight of the big picture in favor of a small short term gain.

After Cena, what does Raw have in terms of faces? DX. Rumor has it that HBK will be in need of some time off soon and their feud with the McMahons appears to be coming to an end this Sunday. So who's next? Carlito. Don't get me wrong, I love The Cool One! Carlito has main event written all over him, but not yet. He still needs time to develop, winning the MIB Ladder Match at Mania and winning the belt at Summer Slam would be a much better path. So what's that leave us with? Jeff Hardy vs. Edge for the WWE Championship. First of all, that doesn't excite me in the least, in fact, that program would officially make Raw my least favorite of the three brands. Plus it just doesn't make sense. After Unforgiven, Jeff hardy will either be the Intercontinental Champion, or just lost to the IC Champ, either way, that doesn't make room for a main event feud with Edge. Cena should win in Edge's hometown, just as Edge beat him in Boston. Edge gets his automatic rematch at Survivor Series and after that we can move on with a happy ending. Raw NEEDS Cena!

SmackDown! doesn't need Cena. The show is slowly recovering from the injury bug and wellness casualties. The SmackDown! roster is as strong as it's been in some time. When you tune in on Friday Night, Booker, Batista, Undertaker, Kennedy, Lashley, Finlay, a returning Chris Benoit, some more youngsters breaking in and a developing tag division all grace your screen and put on an entertaining show! Moving Cena is unnecessary and would impair Raw far more than it would benefit SmackDown!

I'm hoping this stipulation was used to add an extra sense of intrigue to the match while enabling the WWE to get the CW name on the air. Finlay and Kennedy have both made mention of Cena coming to SmackDown and it now appears that Batista will be feuding with Finlay, leaving King Booker with an open date book. It is entirely possible that these things were done to create a ready made program for Cena after he loses at Unforgiven, but I hope that's not the case, I hope it's been done simply to add speculation to the result of the TLC match. Unlike most, I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that Cena will stay on Raw, but unlike most, I think he should!

Over My Head:

Last week I finished up the three part series on Getting Over SmackDown!. Here's what a few of my readers had to say about it:

My man Cody chimes in with: I think this was the best one out of the Smackdown stuff you did. I loved every minute of it and I was freaking out reading the Taker/Batista match. Only thing is though, I dont know about MVP with King Booker as Booker is the King and likes loyal people and MVP is all about himself so I dont know about that but I really loved this. I also agree that The Undertaker would have to lose the title before Judgment Day maybe the Smackdown before Backlash to make Smackdown have a big show since they dont have a PPV that month. But this week, I really loved it besides the MVP part.

MVP was put in because he was the only one left not involved in either the rebuilt tag division or the SmackDown! Six Series. I can understand why you would think their gimmicks wouldn't mesh well together, but I'm making them!

Regular reader Tarek liked the column, but was really looking forward to the Harry Smith column: Here comes the pitch and Lafave hits out of the park again for another home run. Well done loved this article big time.

I cannot wait for the Harry Smith one as you know as we have touched on this before. I think he should be the one to stop the Samoan Bulldozer, break the master lock and be crowned the Streak Killer. He should be this prodigy that we are all in awe of. Anyway thats what I think im sure you have another ideas and fresher ones too. But think about it. A rookie face who is unstoppable - hasnt happened in a long time and due to his look and father he could get over big time and quick i think therefore this gimmick could be his meal ticket.

Tarek, I know you must have been disappointed that I passed over Harry Smith this week, but I hope you still enjoyed the column and I promise you'll get what you've been waiting for next week!

Todd agreed with me almost all the way: Okay, I thought you had something until you put Undertaker over Batista at WM23. Giving that this could be one of Takers last WM appearances, I have no problem with him winning at WM and going out with his streak intact. However, I do not feel that it should be the Main Event of the show, or that it should be for the World Title. You want to give Taker a high profile win over Batista, for the title, I have no problem with that. But I don't think it should be at WM23.

So Todd was enjoying it until the Mania match. He doesn't mind Undertaker continuing his undeafeted streak at Wrestlemania and he wouldn't mind Taker beating Batista for the World Championship, he just doesn't want him doing both at the same time. Understandable I guess.

And finally for this week, Scary Larry has some thoughts: I like the idea of prolonging the program between King Booker and Batista, but I am not sure about the booking. Jobbing Batista 3+ weeks in a row seems a little far fetched, especially considering he has not had a big win since returning from injury (and as much as I like and respect Mr. Kennedy, the program was not significant enough to merit a big win). Also, I would like to see King Booker keep the title until 'Mania and see Batista get his title back there in a tough match (a nice way to send Booker T into retirement). But if he gets it sooner, then have him dismantle the court, and the entire King character, in the process.

I'd mark out for 'Taker going over Batista at 'Mania, especially w/ a submission, but I would expect heat for the outcome. However, it is not like Batista is a young man, and he almost seems less durable than 'Taker in the long run.

Thanks to everyone who wrote in, keep sending me your feedback, it's the main reason I write this column! And to those of you who have been reading the column, but haven't sent any feedback in, what are you waiting for? I'm waiting for you! I take the time to write back to everyone who takes the time to write in to me!

Over and Out:

I know your first priority is to read the number on Fantasy Booking column in the entire IWC, Getting Over, but if you have any extra time, I highly recommend you give these columns a glance over…

You'll see this one on here every week, its JT and JP with this week's HiddenHighlights!

For some high quality wrestling debate, check out the Triple Threat boys!

We all love ya Lar! Let me know if there is anything I can do. And everyone else, show Larry some love...

And finally this week, be sure to check out Ron Gamble's new column!

I have a couple quick announcements before I sign off for the week. First, week one of the NFL season has come and gone and as you may or may not know, I'm involved in the 411 Writers Fantasy League. Well, involved isn't exactly the correct description, domination would more apply describe what's taking place! That's right, the best fantasy booker in the IWC just so happens to be the best fantasy football player as well. Too bad I'm not better at Final Fantasy to really round out that equation. As I was saying, not only did I win last week, but I finished well above everyone else! My opponent, Sat, of High Road/Low Road fame put up a valiant fight, but what can one do when facing the team that is going to run away with the league! I'll keep you posted on how the league is going...well, as long as I'm winning I will. If the time comes that I'm forced to eat my words, I wont, I'll just simply, "forget" to mention it.

Also, on the 411 forum (that you should all sign up for and participate in) there is a Fantasy Booking League starting. Unfortunately, due to my busy college schedule, which includes sixteen-credits of all writing intensive courses, plus my new position as new director of the college radio station, I am unable to take part. But I loved the idea and it fits my column so I'm shouting it out here on Getting Over. A live draft will be held tonight for all the participants and then shows will be written. Awards are going to be handed out each month and the winners will receive their props right here! If you get a free second, it's in the General Wrestling section of the forum, check it out and see how everyone books their rosters!

OK, that's more than enough for this week. As always, please send me some feedback. If you loved the column, hated it, or your feelings are somewhere in between, I want to hear it! I live for the feedback, so keep it coming! Also, if you ever want to talk wrestling, I'm always up for that so feel free to IM me on AIM, my SN is LafavioHeat. Be sure to come back next week when Harry Smith will have his chance to Get Over! Until then, over and
