The 10th Day News Report for 10.11.06
Posted by Leonard Hayhurst on 10.11.2006

MAILBAG

I don't know if you've been watching smackdown, at all, ever, or just in the last few weeks, but because in any case you are clearly very stupid, let me explain a couple of things to you.

1) At no stage has it been said that Mr. Kennedy will be defending his US title against the Undertaker
2)Ditto for Helms and his Cruiserweight belt versus Matt Hardy.

Its one thing to not pay attention to a show which you are meant to be giving an opinion about (it would be unprofessional if you were getting paid), but to present a supposedly factual preview of a future event which has two such high profile errors is just sloppy, lazy and shows a complete disregard for your work.

Basically I'm saying do it right (or at least try) or don't do it at all. My advise is to do the latter.
-Gareth

My advise to you would be to do more research than simply watching Smackdown. WWE.com and various other outlets had both those matches listed as title matches at one point. After double checking it seems like there was some confusion on that in some outlets, but neither match was for the belts. I'll admit that maybe I had those elements wrong, but I do not see where incorrectly identifying those matches as being title bouts voids the validity of the entire article, the opinions expressed or the other factual information presented. Although in the outcome section for those matches in my pay per view preview I did consider the title as part of my view on the booking, but it was not an overwhelming factor. I thank you for the correction, but would suggest that the negativity and over zealousness of your comments were not called for and not appreciated.

NEWS AND NOTES

-Jimmy Garvin has been hired by WWE as part of the creative team on Smackdown. He takes the role of Michael Hayes who was promoted to head writer last week. Garvin teamed with the Hayes in the Freebirds. With Brad Armstrong who played Bad Street joining ECW it's a freakin' Freebird reunion.

-Local advertising has revealed the main event for Survivor Series to be a three team six man tag match. RAW will be represented by John Cena, Shawn Michaels and Triple H, ECW by Sabu, RVD and Big Show and Smackdown by Batista, Booker T and Rey Mysterio. Credit: local advertising, read the first sentence

-During an appearance on ESPN's "Cold Pizza" yesterday morning John Cena was confronted by baseball player AJ Perzinski with the TNA X-Division title. AJ had made appearances for TNA in the past. Cena said he saw the X-Division title in the gumball machine out front before coming in. This from a man whose title belt spins. I wonder what Vince thought of that. Expect a contract hit on the Perzinski family soon. Credit: watching the show

-Steve Spurrier was shown in the audience on RAW Monday. WWE.com has an interview with the ball coach up where he admits to watching RAW every Monday and being a big fan of Ric Flair. I'd almost buy that, because I know he's not watching Monday Night Football because the NFL is dead to him. Credit: WWE.com

-Even though RAW ran three hours there was still a dark match as Eugene and Jim Duggan defeated Viscera and Charlie Haas. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Plans at this time are for Kane to join the Smackdown brand after having lost to Umaga on RAW. I smell a Kane vs. Undertaker rematch for Wrestlemania. Or maybe that's just old cheese. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Smackdown last weekend finished with a 2.4 rating. Finlay wrestling twice=ratings. The RAW reunion special drew an overall 3.8, but the regular timeslot of 9 pm to 10 pm scored better than it has done in the past few weeks. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Victoria has opened her own MySpace page at http://myspace.com/victoria_lisamarievaron.
Now you can be her friend, but it will still only be in your deluded little mind. Credit: Ashish posted it originally I don't go to MySpace

-Bret Hart has finished a rough draft of his autobiography at 1026 pages. Even Bill Clinton thinks that is too much. He says editors will work with him to get it down to around 500 pages and it should be published late next year. Credit: slam.canoe.ca

-WWE released an official apology for the rear nudity of William Regal on the No Mercy pay per view last Sunday. I know I'm kicking myself for missing that. Of course, they did not apologize for it being part of a vague homosexual angle or the implications that Big Vito has a thick Italian sausage in his pants. Credit: WWE.com

-WWE's upcoming tour of Italy will now include the Smackdown and ECW brands. Cards are posted below and they almost make me want to travel abroad.

They will be discussing the careers of Roddy Piper and Terry Funk. I'm expecting empty cans of Old Milwaukee's Best and empty Funyons bags lying around the set.

-Afa, Jr., Nattie Neidhart and TJ Wilson have all been signed to Deep South Wrestling for further WWE consideration. Maybe we should steal from WWE for once and sign TJ Wilson for the EWR since they stole two picks from us. Credit: PWInsider.com

-Pro Wrestling Xplosion will have their second live event in Long Island at the Deer Park Community Center on 11/15. The show starts at 5 pm, with the doors opening at 3 pm and a meet and greet with fans at 4 pm. Confirmed talent at this time are Teddy Hart, Steve Corino, Ian Rotten, Mana, Jigsaw, Azerial, the SAT's and Alter Boy Luke. Their first show is now available on DVD at pwxplostion.com Credit: PWInsider.com

-Tom Rumsby, known as the Executioner, and promoter Mark Spencer will be putting on two shows the weekend of 10/21 under the World Wrestling Coalition banner. Saturday's show will be at 1 pm at the Garden Drive In in Hunlock Creek, Pa and the show the next day will be at the Mountain Speedway in Hazelton. The show is being touted as ‘old school' with no swearing, vulgarity or salacious characters. Then where is the fun? Rumsby has been operating his own training school and is looking at venues in the Northeastern Pennsylvania area to start running regular shows. Credit: Timesleader.com

ECW THOUGHTS

-I wonder if there is any deep Freudian meaning to a guy named Balls being the dealer for Diva strip poker. Balls looks like the dealer you'd get at a seedy casino Laughlin, Nevada. They're not even playing poker, they're play high card. Let's just demean these gals further. How about strip crazy eights? I wonder if WWE rigged this or they are actually going to let the chips fall where they may. If I were playing strip poker I would be wearing six layers of clothes and an oversized parka. These girls are going from wearing next to nothing to practically nothing. It leaves nothing to the imagination. I do have to say that Ashley's thigh high argyle socks are mondo sexy. Oh yeah, remember what I said last week nobody is getting naked. In an effort to do a more detailed ECW recap I'll inform you that Ashley lost the first round with a two of spades and took off her shirt.

-Our first match of the night is CM Punk vs. Rene Dupree. The Spirit Squad just needs to look at what the former La Resistance is doing for a peak into their future. We get a strip poker update where Kelly has lost her shoes. Joey Styles beats me to the Snitsky reference. Dupree was supposed to be the hardest core wrestler of all time, but he's not hardcore nor a parody of hardcore. He's just a guy in a pair of tights. I think he could get over in a Rick Model like gimmick, oh wait they tried that with Rob Conway. Trinity loses her shirt. Literally. And that's one of the few times you will read the work literally used correctly. Dupree and Punk are actually having a pretty decent match but you wouldn't know it from the split screens with the not poker game. Punk gets the submission victory with the Anaconda Vice. After the match Maria and Candice tie with threes. Maria takes off her stockings and Candice drops her skirt. Who did Balls Mahoney blow to draw dealer duty? That would be the irony of earning the gig right. I always wondered why Vince never tried a gambler character, he would be a natural for this angle. Since we have a gambling trio in our EWR game I'm sure Vince will steal that in due time.

-After commercial Balls declares the next hand dealer's choice. That means he gets to pick the article of clothing lost. Balls shows his true colors by calling for Kristal's bottoms after she gets a four. Panties or bra never apparently crossed his mind. Styles impresses by reeling off what ever diva has lost so far like he was recapping a box score, as Tazz points out. Kevin Thorne then takes on Tommy Dreamer. Ariel is with him and not getting naked with the bimbos in the back. They should bring Gangrel back to team with Thorne. During the match Ashley loses her heels and Candice does the Go-Daddy dance upon ditching her top. Dreamer and Thorne actually match up pretty well, but what happened to Thorne feuding with Balls. I guess him dealing the not poker game means he won the feud. Being this is on Sci-Fi maybe Dreamer should have some sort of precognitive dream powers. And then the Sandman can carry around a little bag of sand and put guys away with a sleeper. Dreamer wins cleanly with the DDT to demonstrate that Thorne needs to go back to the bat cave as he falls down the jobber ladder. After the match Kristal draws a two and off comes her shoes. Shouldn't each shoe count as one item.

-The girls in the poker game get wet talking about John Cena. WWE even works a plug for his new movie into the poker game. Maria reveals that she likes ponies. I'm not saying a word. Balls feels his Balls shrinking in the girl talk and forces them to play another hand of not poker. Kelly draws a two and honors it by losing her skirt and top, then her undershirt. We got to commercial and I'm guessing Mike Knox runs in and brawls with Balls to set up a new feud. It doesn't happen. Did Knox have a free biscuits coupon for Popeye's or something? Where is he?

-In the main event Sandman, RVD and Sabu team up to face Big Show, Matt Striker and Test. Back at the not poker game Ashley drops her skirt and we don't see what happened with Kelly. Krystal loses her shirt. Why doesn't she take off the hat? Maria loses her skirt. There's a match going on I guess, but you can't take it seriously with half naked chicks running around. Trinity loses her skirt and we see that Kelly is holding her breasts so not to be exposed. If she were an exhibitionist, why would she care if her boobs were hanging out? I didn't think WWE would go that far, but you still haven't seen anything good yet. Maria then takes off her corset. The corset is a fashion statement I want to see come back. Sandman pinned Striker to win the match, not that I was really paying attention. After the match Candice goes to lose her bra, but then challenges Balls to why she got a two. She accuses Maria of cheating. The two brawl and strip each other as we get blurred nudity. The other girls pull them off of each other. Balls chants ECW, even though the two girls naked and fighting are from RAW. I don't think Balls Mahoney would be high on the list of people I would want to see me naked.

WWE FANTASY MANAGER

The first week of the new season is very interesting. We have the huge three hour family reunion RAW. We know the ECW results because it was taped last week, unless WWE pulls a fast one. And we're coming off of a Smackdown pay per view.

Week 1 Team

Rob Van Dam ($4 million): We knew before the deadline that he led a six man tag team to victory on ECW. He was also scheduled to appear on RAW and I figured him a good bet for a match there too.

CM Punk ($2.5 million): He is known to have beaten Rene Dupree on ECW and should be good for a backstage segment with Mike Knox.

Umaga ($3.5 million): He was scheduled to face Kane in a loser leaves RAW match. Conventional wisdom has Kane going to Smackdown, which seems to have been right.

Jeff Hardy ($3 million): I was betting the IC title would be on the line and Hardy has been getting some backstage segments lately too. I was wrong there, but he did work the show.

John Cena ($5 million): He's the WWE Champion with his new movie coming out, so he should be all over RAW and he was.

Finlay ($4 million): You might remember my saying from last season. I will take Finlay until I'm given a reason not to.

Batista ($4 million): Any of the Smackdown guys slated for RAW are good picks, because they will probably appear twice and could wrestle twice on the week. And you know Batista is going to factor in heavy, he's Batista.

MVP ($2 million): He's the new guy on Smackdown and due for a push. He's also cheap for the points potential he has.

Kelly and Kristal ($1 million): The strip poker match was decided by the fantasy manager board to be scored as a specialty match. Ashley and Maria were more expensive and I'd rather have two horses in a race than one.

Kevin Von Erich informs Paul Burchill that Roddy Piper has banned Burchill and Cena from ringside for the bra and panties match. Stacy says she'll be ok, kisses Paul on the cheek and runs off. Burchill turns around into Triple H. Triple H says the lost last week to Burchill is very hard for a man like him to take. While he's stuck in the hell hole of Smackdown he's going to be top dog and he won't lose to some punk kid fresh off the streets. Burchill reminds Triple H that he has a cheap win over him too. Hunter then says they should have the rubber match next week, no matter what happens at No Mercy. Buchill agrees. (from Mathew)
Segment Rating: 65%

Stephanie McMahon uses a sunset flip to get Stacy's short skirt off. Stacy's long legs can really be seen as she does the corner foot choke. Stacy pulls Steph's shirt up over her head then jumps on the top rope and ranas Steph over also removing her shirt. Steph crosses her arms over her chest and backs into the corner begging off. Stacy stands over her and gets low blowed. Steph bulldogs Stacy and wrestles her shirt off. Stephanie basks in triumph, but Stacy just shrugs and starts dancing. Since she's not humiliated Steph is pissed. Steph jumps Stacy, but she deftly unhooks her bra and Steph runs off covering herself.

Sabu sets Tank Toland up on a table on the outside. Toland rolls out of the way of the Arabian Facebuster. Toland picks Sabu up for a powerbomb on the ring stairs, but Sabu kicks out and gets a face jam to the stairs. Sabu pulls barbed wire out from under the ring and wraps himself in it. However, this gives Toland time to recover and they brawl. Sabu slides into the ring and Toland follows to have a chair thrown at him. Sabu uses another chair for the triple jump moonsault, but Toland kicks it and Sabu slips to crotch himself on the chair top. Toland wraps his arms in some of the barbed wire and uses that to nail the Turrent. Tank Buster on the chair finishes. Sabu goes insane post match, throttling Toland with the chair. He wraps Toland in the barbed wire, piles chairs on top of him and then hits a leg drop off the top rope. Kevin Von Erich runs out with security. Sabu fights them all until Von Erich gets the claw and Sabu continues to struggle until he passes out. (tweak of a Mathew idea)
Match Rating: 62% (This match was seen as a let down by the fans because of the last match, just wanted to mention. Boobies trump hardcore.)

AJ Styles comes out along for his official contract signing with Rey Mysterio for their title match. Mysterio has Rhyno with him. Styles says he doesn't fear Mysterio and he will beat him on his own Sunday. Rey swears that Styles will never beat him and no one will ever take the title from him. Rhyno launches for a Gore, but Styles upends the table and he goes through it. Styles wants to fight Mysterio, but he runs off.
Segment Rating: 71%

Maven flips out of the Decommissioned by Scott Taylor and hits the White Russian leg sweep. Doug Basham runs in, but is wiped out by Jimmy Snuka coming off the top. Snuka spikes the Jaegerbomb on Taylor and they win. The Power Brokers then run out and lay out the faces for their stable mates.

Segment Rating: 83%

Johnny gets the Kashmere sweater to take the first fall with his feet on the ropes in the cheat to win match. The referee backs them off to start the next fall, but Chavo isn't getting up. Johnny leans over to check on him and is rolled up with a handful of tights for a fall. Chavo pulls a foreign object out of his tights and hits Kashmere with it for a second fall. Kashmere accuses Chavo of having a foreign object so the referee checks him. While the ref is bent over padding him, Chavo pokes Kashmere in the eye. Johnny leans over holding his eye and eats a swinging neckbreaker for a pin. Chavo goes up for the frog splash, but Jamie Satin pushes the ref in the way and he is knocked out. Ted Dibiase stalks Jamie Satin around ringside. She pretends to slip and hurt her leg. Dibiase stops to check on her and Satin nails him with her high heel shoe. Satin takes Ted's cane and tests it to make sure it's rubber again this week. She slides it into the ring. Kashmere goes down like a ton of bricks. The referee comes around and accuses Chavo of hitting Kashmere with the cane and DQ's him. That's a DQ for Chavo and a cheating fall won by Kashmere, so that's two and he pulls even. A fan then jumps the ring wall and tells the referee what Satin did. Kashmere argues with the man. The man swings, Kashmere ducks and he blasts Chavo. Kashmere covers as time expires. The referee in the back says that was unintentional interference, but then Johnny reveals that the man is his old tag team partner Trent Acid and it was his plan all along. So that's a cheat and Kashmere retains. (Everyone had Acid interfering)
