The Triple Threat 12.03.06: The 29th Edition
Posted by Sean, David, Alex on 12.03.2006
It is another week of wrestling and yet again, there is another PPV to watch. Also we break down Survivor Series, give our thoughts on this stuff with Indonesia, and name our favorite Elimination Chamber.
Hello everyone, tonight, six men will step into one ominous structure to fight for a certain prize. To them that prize is the highest honor they can receive in a business where sometimes you give everything and could ultimately get nothing. In this match there are many different personalities, an angry giant, a military powerhouse, a straightedge shooter, a death-defying maniac, a man that doesn't know how high is high enough, oh yeah, and Test. ECW's December to Dismember is this tonight and we have a big preview of that. You also don't want to miss our thoughts on Survivor Series, SmackDown's issues in Indonesia, and our favorite Elimination Chamber. Hey, you never know what you might find in the Triple Threat, so don't miss it.
Topic #1 Survivor Series was last weekend. What did you think of the show?
David: I didn't see it but I'll put in my two cents from what I heard. From what I have heard about the show, it really was not that great. It was cool that they had the classic survivor series matches but none of them really stood out to be any good. It was great to see CM Punk in his first WWE PPV and actually get the chance to eliminate Johnny Nitro, which is big in my book. The first blood match wasn't that great and in the end Kennedy still got squashed even though he won the match. I also wasn't very happy about King Booker losing the title because he's the one who makes Smackdown so great each and every week. Let's hope Batista can get his intensity back and become that dominating champion he once was. WWE really needs to get on the ball with their PPV's because if they can't make an all brand show good then they are going to have a hard time making a single brand PPV any good.
Alex: Well, I didn't see this one, but the reaction to it made it seem like the PPV didn't live up to the hype.
Sean: I was the only one out of the bunch that saw this PPV. I thought they picked a good opener in the Legends vs. Spirit Squad match. It didn't get interesting until Flair was left alone with the Squad and then Flair disposed of them, it was a fun little match but the Squad still look like they need to be split up. Chris Benoit vs. Chavo was match of the night and that's really saying something about this PPV, that it was just kinda there. I'm glad they kept the belt on Benoit and setup something for the feud to continue, since they are gonna desperately need feuds for Armageddon. I thought that Lita's last match was going to turn out better than it did, but at least they tried to put something cool together closer to the finish. The way they sent out Lita made me angry. I understand she's a heel, but she was a pioneer for this company, she was one of the women that changed the way we look at women's wrestling, and she gets sent off with a "ho sale" that went on entirely too long. They could have made Mickie winning more important and really put over Mickie as the face of the division, while giving Lita a nice thank you, no wonder she wants to leave WWE. The DX team vs. Rated RKO team had a nice intro with CM Punk's name being chanted during the DX entrance. I bet that was a small shock to Triple H's system. The match was a fun squash pretty much. I expected more out of the First Blood match, but I guess with Taker being injured at least we got an alright match out of it. They really could of done without the MVP interference, but at least Kennedy got the win. The final Survivor Series elimination match wasn't anything special except Lashley didn't get eliminated along with Cena. The World Title match was boring, in face I fell asleep during the match to give you an idea, it wasn't anything different from every other Booker vs. Batista match. Overall, Survivor Series didn't turn out to be a good PPV and is incredible lackluster considering that it is one of the big four.
Topic #2 We did get a new World Champion coming out of Survivor Series. Are you happy with Batista as champion?
David: I am not happy at all with Batista becoming the champion. Batista doesn't seem to have the spark that he use to have back in the days when he turned face on HHH. He just seems like a big guy who can do a power bomb. Booker was having a good run with the title and I don't think it was his time to be dethroned. Booker has been way over and taking that belt off of him kind of ruins his gimmick just a bit. Like I said earlier, Batista needs to find his intensity that he once had and become the champion that can lead Smackdown to the top. Don't worry King Booker, your still the champion of champions in my heart.
Alex: Yawn, I understand he's over, but seriously, he makes Goldberg look like a technical wizard, plus, I loved King Booker as champ. For God sake, he's slayed many SmackDown dragons to get that title.
Sean: No, I've lost my liking for Batista ever since he's been a bad shell of himself since returning from injury. I had problems with him not being able to cut a promo and not protecting his opponents in the ring. Now he's forgotten how to do the Batista Bomb and sucks in the ring, horribly. He had to steal moves from Samoa Joe and Goldberg to add moves to his list. It's disappointing to see such a great Champion in King Booker have to lose the title, but I guess all good things have to come to an end at some point.
Topic #3 Some crazy developments have come up regarding SmackDown being shown in Indonesia. A 9 year old boy passed away recently and the family blames it on SmackDown. Reports have come out saying that Wrestling was not the culprit and WWE also had a response to the whole thing. What do you make of this? Should wrestling be to blame?
David: I hate how they always try to pin wrestling down like this. How can they really prove that a kid killed himself because he watched Smackdown? Just because someone watches wrestling doesn't mean there going to go off and imitate what they saw on TV. If people were that stupid then we would all be jumping off of 20 foot ladders.
Alex: Well, this has happened before and it will happen again, people look for things to blame for their own shortcomings as parents, wrestling is like GTA,VERY easy to blame.
Sean: To say that wrestling is not an influence would be wrong, because it can influence people. That's the reason backyard wrestling exists because people think that those moves are easy to do, and want to go practicing them on their friends. However to say that wrestling is the cause is not right. He was just nine and children are easily impressionable at that age but he didn't die because he decided it would be a great idea to practice moves. Now I understand there is a difference between me wrestling at 20, and knowing what to do, as opposed to a child that is going off what he sees on television and thinks he's doing it the right way. I've botched a few moves here and there, but the difference is I know how to make sure the other person doesn't get hurt. Also it doesn't create a violent nature in me or anything like that. He was apparently doing this a month before he died, with two 15 year old boys. They can't do any autopsy on the kid due to religious issues, but that's pretty weird, it just doesn't sound like wrestling was what did this. He could have had some kind of lingering disease that nobody knew about. I think the family was just looking for a scapegoat in troubling times. Blaming wrestling solves nothing.
Topic #4 The battle between VKM and WWE has heated up recently with VKM appearing at a recent RAW house show, and also talking trash in a video shot in front of WWE Headquarters. Should Russo and VKM be doing this?
David: Shit like this is going to keep TNA from ever reaching the top. It comes off as sad to me that they are doing something that doesn't benefit them in any way possible. Seriously, do you really think TNA can contend with WWE right now? Hell no is the answer. TNA doesn't have the money, the time slot, or the names to make it an equal to WWE. I guarantee if WWE put a wrestling show at the same time TNA was on, TNA would get crushed. Stop concentrating on the competition and start concentrating on improving your company and making it separate and different. You know what VKM is not getting any responses from WWE? It's because WWE doesn't give a shit, its not affecting anything. Billy Gunn can complain and talk shit all he wants about anything about the WWE and nothing is going to happen.
Alex: Well I hate DX, but this angle is lame, I don't see where it can go, and quite frankly it reeks of Russo. The video packages have been lame, but I did think that VKM going to the house show was pretty cool, and kind of surprising. Wrestling is full of surprises so you never know, but I think TNA needs to worry more about THEIR talent.
Sean: Seriously this would be ok if the stuff they said was actually, you know, funny. Also TNA is nowhere near ready to compete with WWE, it may get TNA's name out there, but all it's going to do is make TNA look like a little mosquito that does nothing but pester the master, pretty soon the master is going to squash it, and WWE has that power. It would be in TNA's best interest to stay away from WWE at the time being. Not to mention that they rag on WWE's writing, when TNA's TV shows have been crap ever since Russo returned to the booking chair. Their only saving grace at this point is Christian vs. Abyss vs. Sting, Joe vs. Angle doesn't really count, as there is so much behind that, there is really no way they could screw that up unless they never had Joe win one match. In fact, you could say the booking has been very reminiscent of WWE, so why do you hate on a company that you try to emulate? That really doesn't make any sense. Focus on what's important, that is TNA, and only TNA. When you start getting higher ratings than ECW, then maybe you can start to talk some crap, until then, shut your yap, be TNA, and try to do something that's not being WWE lite, and praying that you keep a 1.0 rating every week. If I see one more ex-WWE guy on that show that isn't someone as big as Kurt Angle, I'm going to call it WCW Impact.
Fun Topic of the Week: What is your favorite Elimination Chamber Match?
Explanation: This question may not necessarily be something that is going on in the wrestling news, but it is what it describes. The fun topic is there to get everyone thinking about how they would answer the question. Basically your own personal brain teaser where you can answer it however you wish. This is what we had to say about this week's fun topic.
David: I can't believe I'm saying this but I never really got to see an Elimination Chamber match. This is probably why I'm so excited about the Elimination Chamber match this week at December to Dismember. So I guess I can pretty much say that this up coming Elimination Chamber match will be my favorite.
Alex: The original simply because of Rob Van Dam's preformance.
Sean: My favorite was the first one because it was simply the best one. You had the perfect cast of all former World Champions Booker, Triple H, RVD, Chris Jericho, Kane, and the returning HBK. That place was electric that night and there are so many moments I will never forget. HBK being tossed through the glass, RVD acting like Spiderman, the first time one of the wrestlers fell onto that unforgiving steel. Of course, my fondest memory will be at the end when HBK pins Triple H to become World Heavyweight Champion, I just remember being so happy that my favorite wrestler ever, just came back, and was champ again. If you've never seen this match, you need to see it before the PPV tomorrow, it's really the only one you need to see to love the Chamber match.
Topic #6 ECW's first PPV is tonight. ECW presents: December to Dismember, will you be watching? And what do you think of the card?
David: Of course, I will be watching, this is the PPV I have been excited about since I watched Bound for Glory. Yeah, this PPV just might be one of those one match PPVs but that one match is something to be excited about, first of all CM Punk is in this match. This will be his first time going for a big title, and, who knows he might just come out the victor. Most of the guys in this match are solid competitors and when you add a few weapons something great is bound to happen. We also get to see the Hardys vs. MNM, which to some could be a dream tag match. This should be a fast pace match with some good bumps so you don't want to miss that. As far as I know, there is also Daivari vs. Dreamer and Sandman vs. Hardcore Holly. Both of these matches also have potential. Hopefully, they will add some more matches to the card but I am ready to see December to Dismember.
Alex: I will be watching and am looking forward to it, the E is in a slump of bad PPV's and maybe this will be something different. I am also excited because the winner of the Elimination Chamber may come as a surprise, I think Punk has a huge chance seeing as how over he has gotten in a short amount of time, it should be an exciting match.
Sean: I'll be watching actually this will be the first PPV that we get to see together since Bound For Glory. It's basically very reminiscent of New Year's Revolution every year, a one match PPV. The Elimination Chamber usually pops a good buy-rate for WWE, so it was a good idea to use it here. The Elimination Chamber recently has been the coming out party for some of the young guys placed in it, so this could be breakout time for Lashley or CM Punk, both of them have a chance to even win the match. Big Show is at the end of the line as far as his career goes, Sabu has recently screwed himself up with WWE so he's not going to win, but putting him in this match makes it crazy, WWE would be stupid to let Test win. So it's going to be RVD, CM Punk, or Lashley stepping out of the Chamber as the new ECW Champion, that sounds awesome to me. Hardyz vs. MNM is a dream match that I didn't expect to see so soon, and Sandman vs. Holly could be a decent brawl. We finally get to see Davari wrestle in a big match environment as well. WWE is counting on the Chamber match for this one, and I do not think we have to worry about it delivering.
Match of the Week Nominees: World Tag Team Championship: EDGE & Orton vs. Hardy Boyz (RAW), RVD vs. Sabu (ECW), London & Kendrick vs. MNM, World Championship: Finlay vs. King Booker vs. Batista (SmackDown).
David: World Tag Team Championship: EDGE & Orton vs. Hardy Boyz
Alex: RVD vs. Sabu
Sean: World Championship: Batista vs. Finlay vs. King Booker

Our one piece of feedback comes from our loyal follower John Bryant Bateman
What do you think of a dream match between AJ & Daniels vs. Samoa Joe & Kurt Angle
Sean: Hey John good to hear from you again. Well I think this match could happen sooner than you think if they continue with this Joe having Angle's back deal. It could certainly have match of the year potential if everything goes right. It's a tossup as to who would win though.
Well that is all for this week folks. Thanks everyone for reading, we would sure like to know what you think about these topics, so you know send us some feedback.
